Contains some great tunes to get the blood pumpin'. A couple of the songs contain lyrics that may not be appropriate for young kids.

5 out of 5 stars OH THE NOSTALGIA!.......2005-06-29

Back in like the mid 90s I lived in Oahu, Hawaii. In those days everything you hear on this disc was played all the time on the radio (Xtreme Radio 104.3!!!). These were the glory-days of dance music, when the masses finally started to appreciate it in America (I think), myself included. I would hear this all the time on the radio at home, and that right there molded my tastes for music for the rest of my life. It was upbeat, it was smooth, it wasn't conscious of itself like that hideous rock music, and it had only one purpose: to get you moving on the dance floor! It's been many years since I heard these songs, and I tried to find them to return to those great days for dance music. I've finally found the disc! THIS is the perfect CD for working out, driving your car, or just plain getting excited and crazy! I LOVE this CD! :P

5 out of 5 stars Jam On.......2005-02-04

This mix album is one of the best ever made. This album can be used to workout to or to play for sports teams during warm-ups. With 21 rhythm packed tracks you won't be disappointed. From classics like "We will rock you" and "Macho Man" to newer songs like "1, 2, 3, 4" this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars jock jams vol.2.......2000-02-28

This is a nice mix of 1996 music. It is upbeat, and a great cd for working out.

3 out of 5 stars jock jams 2 review.......2000-02-23

The Jock Jams number two could have had a mega mix because of the Jock Rock one,Slam Jams one,and Jock Jams one. And,the mega mix could have still been really good. That's why I gave it four stars.

5 out of 5 stars Women dig it.......2001-04-04

My friend got this cd for my birthday and it works great! All the ladies that hear these soothing love songs totally dig it... and then they dig me. Even though this is a 2 cd set, the music usually runs out before we're done. I with they had a volume 2 or something.

Thanks, JenH.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely the best love album!!!.......1999-09-09

I bought this a year ago when it was first released, and I still find myself listeneing to it everyday, and falling asleep to it everynight. The ballads on here are beautiful and touching. Especially,"I'm Not in Love"by 10cc & "I Wanna Know What Love is" by Foreigner. I recommend this album to everyone!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent as compilations go.......1999-03-03

Excellent selection of songs is transformed into a must have by the inclusion of the FULL versions of these songs. I have purchased many compilations from Amazon, but this is one of a select few that actually contain the full versions of the songs (with the notable exception of Nights in White Satin): 10cc's "I'm Not in Love" is 6 minutes, Stephanie Mills "Never Knew Love Like This Before", and Peaches & Herb's "Reunited" is 5:42. I only wish it had "Sara Smile" by Hall & Oates. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best, most varied 80s compilations available.......2003-08-19

Having both graduated high school and college in the 1980s, my husband and I became fans of 80s music for life--in fact, our recent wedding was all 80s! We own at least 10 different 80s compilation CDs, and this is definitely one of the best. The album is very diverse: it includes the expected 80s pop hits such as "Mickey" by Toni Basil and "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, but it also offers some great, lesser-know tunes, namely "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson and "Don't Shed a Tear" by Paul Carrack. Similarly, not only does the CD feature big 80s rock bands such as J. Geils and Steve Miller, but also there are some one-hit wonder groups, including Johnny Hates Jazz and Cutting Crew. A wonderful blend of various styles from that great decade of music.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Love Songs of the 80s.......2007-01-21

these 80s love songs are worth hearing again and again I strongly Recommend this CD to anyone who loves hearing love songs from the heart

5 out of 5 stars 80's power rock at its best........2007-01-19

As a fan of 80's heavy metal,I am familiar with the term, power ballad. This highly melodic, all power ballad light rock format has a great collection of songs. My favorite one on here was"Angel Eyes",but they are all good songs. This album showcases the adult contemporary side of these bands. It even includes the sappy,"Second Chance" from 38 Special. After hearing their more traditional southern based rock songs, you would'nt think they had it in them.Another track that stood out was "When I'm with you".The vocals on that song were great. The very end had some really high notes.Even Boston singers like Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo can't hit notes that high. This is a great album to own if you're a fan of 80's pop/adult contemporary music and particularly one hit wonders.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-11-03

Excellent collaboration of the songs I enjoyed through my High School years, and still do today 20+ years later.

5 out of 5 stars 80's Greatest Rock HIts, Vol 5: From the Heart = Greatest album ever.......2005-09-02

I was a kid in the 80s with an older sister who was a teenager, so I feel in love with 80s music while tagging along with her. I found this album several years ago and fell in love with it right away. This is by far my favorite CD to listen to. If I don't know what I'm in the mood to listen to, I can ALWAYS put this in and be happy. My favorite song from the 80s is probably Angel Eyes by Jeff Healy Band. I love the way the song sounds, and have always wished to have someone sing something like that to me. But, every song on this album is great. I have never skipped any of the songs on it like I do other albums. Please buy this CD if you love 80s love songs. You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-08-10

For anyone who grew up in the 80's, you MUST own this CD. Good times.

When was the last time you heard collard greens being sung about in a Christmas song? Probably never, unless you're a Run DMC fan, or were wise enough to hop on the Very Special Christmas tip. The rappers' contribution to this benefit collection is probably the highlight, although traditional songs covered by now-traditional artists like the Pretenders ("Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas") provide the majority of the material here. Eurythmics turn in a suitably chilly "Winter Wonderland," Stevie Nicks sings a beautifully haunting "Silent Night," and Whitney Houston proves again that she's every woman with "Do You Hear What I Hear"--that is, every woman with a voice strong enough to do the song justice. "Santa Baby," Madonna's contribution, isn't as sultry as it could be, but there's more fun thanks to hell-on-heels, the Pointer Sisters and Bon Jovi. --Steve Gdula

4 out of 5 stars Very special christmas.......2007-01-22

Great cd, have the original on record & couldn't find it anywhere in Oz on cd. Not your traditional boring christmas carols - love it!

4 out of 5 stars Rock'n Christmas.......2007-01-19

If you luv Xmas, but you are a little sick of hearing the same old 40's & 50's sounding carols & songs and you wish xmas would ROCK, just a little, then this is the CD for you!!!!
I luv it, I have heard these songs played on the radio and thought
"Where can i get a copy of these tracks!".
Well here they are, in 1 neat little package.
Merry Rockn Xmas Next Year!

1 out of 5 stars Not worth buying.......2007-01-19

I bought the cd for my sister, because it was the only recording I could find of this particular Sting song that she loved. It turned out she already had the cd, and said the ONLY good song on the cd was his song. Therefore I took it back to another store, as I didn't want it either. Too much discordant, and rap type music, she said.

1 out of 5 stars Worst online experience ever.......2007-01-18

Hermanstreet is lame and I would never, even with my life hanging in the balance, order from them again.

I e-mailed several times (3)inquiring about my order and not once received an e-mail back. Worst online experience ever, this coming from someone who does the majority of their shopping and all their bill pay online.

4 out of 5 stars Rocking Christmas.......2007-01-15

This is a good Christmas CD for people who are tired of the usual same-old-same-old. It features Mellencamp and the Eurythmics among others. It's really good and I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Nice compilation.......2007-05-07

It was good to recover the feeling of these powerful love ballads. Not all of them elicit the same feeling in me, but, hey... this is music. In my view, the first two songs already justify the purchase. You can take the rest as "bonus" features. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Oh. My. God........2005-07-13

How could I forget these songs? This, along with both Monster Ballads albums, are all you need to rock with your lover, Hair Band-style.

I couldn't even remember some of these by their titles. But when I heard *that refrain* at 1:18 on Tesla's Love Song, I nearly cried.

Every song took me back. I was about 13 when most of these (along with the selections from the aforementioned albums) were hits. I went to see Skid Row and Warrant and Trickster in concert. Of course I also loved Bon Jovi, Poison, Guns n Roses, etc. Loved this era!

A must have if you're a fan of the genre!

5 out of 5 stars Can't Fight This Feeling (and Don't Want To).......2005-07-13

One of the best compilations of power ballads on the market, "Feel Like Makin' Love" runs the gamut of emotions, from a longing for love, to loving so hard it hurts, to lost love and heartache. You'll experience the raw emotions each song has to offer as these musicians put their feelings on display for everyone to see.

This CD may help you to relive a long lost love, put an exclamation point on what you might be feeling now in a current relationship, help you visualize the dreams of your heart and soul, or emphasize the ache and emptiness of a broken heart.

Even hard rockers have a romantic side, and this CD exhibits their rough-but-gentle, heart-felt souls. Bad Company "Feels Like Makin' Love," The Scorpions try to rekindle a betrayed heart in "Still Loving You," Foreigner wants to know what love is, REO Speedwagon "can't fight this feeling anymore," Boston's Tom Shulz can't wait to tell "Amanda" how he feels, Cheap Trick remembers a lost love, Winger is "headed for a heartbreak," and Bad English says that everything's all right "when I see you smile."

These songs will have you smiling, sighing, wishing or crying, depending on your mood when you listen to them. If you're ready for a flood of raw, unbridled emotions, then you'll want this CD, and its companion, "Love Bites."

But beware: once you listen to this CD, you'll never be the same again.

5 out of 5 stars The Lost Ballads of Rock, Now Found.......2002-12-21

Wow, I am throughly amazed that I finally found the music I've been looking for for years. This had the best of cheap trick, Whitesnake, and old song of Ratt, and many others. You cannot find most of these songs, musicians in stores anymore. It is very few and far between when you can find 1 tape of the group let alone get everyone you want to hear on 1 tape. I think I have fallen in love with Amazon.com. Thanks for helping me find my music Again.

5 out of 5 stars romantic feeling revisited.......2001-10-11

for any fan who has a romantic soul, the songs on this cd will bring out all the feelings you have been through. from falling in love to losing a love, this cd has it all. i recommend this cd for the different artists and the soul of the music. LOVE LIVE ON!!!

5 out of 5 stars 1982: Heading more in a rock/MTV direction........2002-08-09

NOTES: Rhino's Billboard Top Hits series features ten popular songs from a given year. They may not be the exact biggest hits of the year (due to licensing restrictions from some major artists, etc.) but, more or less, provide an accurate snapshot of the year in pop music.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR 1982:

1982 and to a lesser extent '83 were probably the most varied musical years of the '80s simply because we were now in the MTV era of visual bands, but still retained a tiny bit of the past. This particular series again improves on the previous one, featuring much more on the rock side.

1. "Harden My Heart" Quarterflash -- The opener was also their biggest hit, featuring an immediately memorable sax solo as well as confident "I'm gonna get over you"-type lyrics set to a pop/rock beat.

2. "Rosanna" Toto -- The lite arena rock band's first major hit (after 1978's "Hold the Line") mines a similar territory, in the form of an uptempo, rocking love song, only with more synths and keyboards.

3. "Eye in the Sky" Alan Parsons Project -- One of the first songs from the progressive rockers to foray into pop. With its melodic and slightly hypnotic mid tempo sound, I'd call it classic rock lite. At first, I thought it was a love song, but upon closer listen, appears to be about big brother.

4. "Gloria" Laura Branigan -- Her debut (and biggest) hit (although I slightly prefer later hits like "Self Control"). An impossibly catchy dance tune with background guitar and synths about a woman who appears to be on the run. If disco had gone into the 80's, it would most likely sound like this.

5. "Who Can it Be Now" Men at Work -- Yet another breakout hit (I'm seeing a theme here, LOL) from the Aussies. A somewhat Police-esque, unique new wave rocker, about mental illness (although that's disguised by its fun, happy sound).

6. "Open Arms" Journey -- This is not only the premiere arena rock band's biggest hit, but one of the defining power ballad love songs of all time with its yearing sound.

7. "Don't Talk to Strangers" Rick Springfield -- Though this mid tempo keyboard pop/rock song isn't nearly as well-known as "Jessie's Girl" (from the previous year), I actually think it's just as good. The relationship theme comes into play again.

8. "Maneater" Hall & Oates -- Another one of the duo's biggest and best hits, with the semi Motown inspired pop/rocking dance beat.

9. "Up Where we Belong" Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes -- This theatrical and touching duet pop ballad is a definite throwback to the singer-songwriter era, but still is a beautiful song and fits in nicely.

10. "Centerfold" J. Geils Band -- There could hardly be a better way to close the album than with the bluesy band's party rock tribute to, err, centerfolds, which is pop and hard rock based at the same time.

Overall: Even though the majority of these songs are easily available elsewhere, it's a good a place as any to start if you're just building an 80's collection, especially since it gives a better sampling of different styles than many other years.

Since there were so many great songs to come out of '82, it's hard to pinpoint any glaring ommissions, but "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," "Jack & Diane," "Ebony & Ivory," "White Wedding" and "Somebody's Baby" all come to mind.

3 out of 5 stars Top 40 radio's last "hurrah"........2001-07-08

I consider 1982 to be the last year of real honest to goodness Top 40 radio. Once we began to slink into the middle of the decade, the quality of your average pop single seemed to begin to slip. This is only an opinion but I think if you'll compare 1981 to 1987 you'll see what I mean. Once we got to the point where half the songs played on the radio belonged to the same "superstar" artists over and over and over (Steve Winwood, Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston) it was just so boring to listen to a top 40 station. The diversity was gone and so was the life that pop music had possessed since the early 1960s. I will admit that I think things started to improve again around 89-90 but since that time, radio station program directors are so strict in their respective formats that you have to keep punching the dial from one station to another to hear any kind of variety. But variety still has its' last gasping breaths on this CD which features some of the more popular singles of 1982. Toto, Alan Parsons, Laura Branigan and Men At Work have the highlights.

3 out of 5 stars '82 Revisited.......2000-07-11

This is an average collection of songs from '82. "Centerfold" by the J. Geils Band is a classic and is welcome on any album. Songs like "Gloria", "Harden My Heart" & "Eye In The Sky" are nice additions as they are good songs and you'd never want to purchase complete Laura Branigan, Quarterflash or Alan Parsons to get them. "Maneater" is not one of Hall & Oates better efforts and "Up Where We Belong" is still sappy as ever.

4 out of 5 stars Great 80's Ballad Music.......2006-03-15

If you are like I am and a huge fan of the 80's music era, then you will love this CD packed full of slow love songs from this generation. A must have collection...

5 out of 5 stars One of three great love song collections.......2004-10-05

Love Bites, along with Monster Ballads, and Power Ballads, is one of the three great love ballad collections from the eighties. Here one finds compelling compositions that actually led me to chase down other compositions from some of the artists, such as Cinderella (overall an estimable band, but with three great songs, including "Nobody's Fool", "Don't know what you got til it's gone", and "It's gonna be a long cold winter without your love"). "Good-bye" by Enuff z'Enuff is exceptional, and many of the songs similarly do not fit one genre, but stand as a tribute to the ability of hard-rock bands to make great love songs, simply by the power of their slo-mo exectuion. Well worth the buy.

5 out of 5 stars A great price for all the eighties ballads!.......2002-02-20

I have to admit I'm a sucker for the eighties. I'm also one who has suffered through many bad break-ups especially in the eighties so this brings me back to all those sad days spent crying and watching my boyfriend walk down the halls with another girl. This is music you listen to on Valentine's Day as you watch a sappy movie and eat a box of candy you bought for yourself.

This is a great quality cd with good sound and all the old ones. My favorites on here are "Two out of Three Ain't Bad", "Nobody's Fool", "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and especially the bluesy "What Love Can Be" which is kind of a rare song for a compilation. There are also plenty of other great ones from popular bands from that time. Its definitely a good one for us ladies to look back at that era and remember the old days good or bad.

All in all, one of the best ballad compilations out there. Its a great price. Yes, its sappy but a great buy!

4 out of 5 stars Attention all 80's children.......2001-01-27

For the late 20 somethings and early 30 somethings, this CD will bring you back to your high school years. If you like nostalgic 80's music, you'll like this CD. If you grew up in the 80's, listening to love ballads than you will appreciate the music on this CD. For those who do not like 80's music, especially heavy metal love ballads, STAY AWAY. You will not be satisfied with this CD.

On the other hand, those who grew up in the 80's will enjoy rehashing old times with friends while listening to this dated collection.

4 out of 5 stars 4 out of 5 ain't bad!!.......2000-08-03

This CD has a collection of what's supposed to be one of the best Romantic Ballads in the music.. The bands there, well most of them are now out of date.. but some are still giving to the music industry.. The music there is great, as to be of the old ballads that can never be forgotten.. more likely a collectors edition for those who like romantic rock melodies.. i recommend this CD as a gift to an older person, or someone who really needs to hear some REAL good music!!

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Hair Band CD EVER!!.......2006-01-29

I LOVE this CD. It's got all the greatest hair band hits that defined the 80's. I was born during the 80's and rememer some of these songs growing up! If there is ever a greatest hair band album this would be it!

5 out of 5 stars awesome!!!.......2004-08-21

I was born in 1984, I'm young I know. But I grew up listening to bands like guns-n-roses, poison, ozzy osbourne, whitesnake, and so on, because of my dad. I grew out of that phase, got in with the boyband thing, until the late 90's when i re-discovered the great music that was the 80's. I fell in love with the power ballads, I can't begin to explain when listening to a great song like that feels like. Its completely awesome, and VH1 has done a great job diggin out the good music and the music that should still be, not the crap they are playing now.

5 out of 5 stars "[Come] On Feel The Noize!".......2001-07-18

If you liked the metal of the 80's you have got to get this CD. From Quiet Riot (my personal favorite), Poison, Warrant, Scorpions, Twisted Sister, etc...they're all here! Every song brings you back to when music was fun, loud and energizing! The louder the better! Life was one big party! This CD will bring back a lot of memories...enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Could be better.......1999-08-13

I really enjoy this CD as I graduated from high school in 1990. All of these bands and songs bring back wonderful memories. I disagree with some of the song selections, however. How one can put any Whitesnake song besides "Still of the Night" on a rocking 80s compilation is beyond me. All in all a good CD, but there are certainly other compilations that rock a bit harder.....

5 out of 5 stars Way to go VH1.......1999-07-07

I like the direction VH1 is going with this CD. This is the third "80s" volume and the first that rocks!! I wish they would have dug a little deeper on some of the picks, but this will work. This will spend some time in my CD rotation!!

4 out of 5 stars Close to being on of the best albums ??.......2006-11-03

This album could be considered one the best collections from one band. I wore this out in vinyl and finally got it in CD -- what a blast ! I missed this album. The first half (album one) is excellent with songs some may not have known was REO. The second half (album two) is, well .... just a rockin blast with familiar hits ! I saw REO in a mall parking in Mesa Az back in 1994 (?) ... they remain of the best groups to play as a unit/band. They had the Phoenix boys Choir accompany them. Great group, great music. Bring this one along with any Boston album on your next road trip !!

5 out of 5 stars Reo's 70s material.......2006-02-15

This is the first Reo cd I bought and i loved it. If your new to Reo or want to hear some of there best 70's material this is the cd for you.

4 out of 5 stars best known songs of reo's first decade.......2004-09-05

One good thing about A Decade of Rock and Roll 1970 to 1980 is that people curious about the Mike Murphy albums, there is one song from each album that he was one(they weren't that good anyway), and also it contains Sophisaticated Lady from Reo's self titled first album(which is not available on CD in the U.S.). A decade of Rock and Roll is pretty much a greatest hits of Reo's first ten years in the business, and has songs off of albums ignored by 1988's The Hits, so it would be a good purchase for fans who want more, but don't want to buy each individual title.

4 out of 5 stars excellent compilation.......2003-11-14

When it comes to arena rock, REO Speedwagon is one of the finest bands out there - no questions asked. It's a shame these guys have gone forgotten in the modern age, because their music is excellent. I can't believe the junk that gets played on the radio these days, instead of these guys. In recent years the band released two hits compilations - a two-disc one covering from 1970-1980, and a single-disc one covering their entire career. Read on for my review of the former - Decade Of Rock And Roll.

PROS:
-If you want all of the band's big hits from when they were in their prime, and not a pop-rock-oriented singles band, this is the compilation for you. Roll With The Changes, Ridin' The Storm Out, and Time For Me To Fly are all here for your listening pleasure.
-There is no material past 1980, when the band supposedly "wimped out" according to many. You get nothing but REAL rock and roll here. Solid proof that this is a BEST OF, not a GREATEST HITS.
-A number of underrated masterpieces, including Golden Country (deprived of a place on the band's single-disc hits compilation) can be found here.

CONS:
-Since this doesn't cover anything into the eighties, you don't get big hits like Keep On Loving You, Take It On The Run, and Can't Fight This Feeling. These were some of the band's biggest hits.
-The discs aren't filled to their eighty-minute limits. At that price, the compilation should be filled as much as possible.
-Two discs means a higher price.

OVERALL:
If you only get one of the two major REO Speedwagon hits compilations, whichever one you buy is entirely a matter of what you like. If you're a casual fan and you just want the big hits, get their single-disc hits compilation entitled The Hits. If you want to experience the band in their prime and hear underrated masterpieces, get this one instead. It's doubtful this compilation will fail to please any fan of classic rock.
