From Ballads to Humor.......2002-06-07
I really enjoyed this CD. The songs stayed in my head long after the CD had stopped playing. One of my favorites was "Ten Pound Hammer". I remember the chorus to this day. Besides the comical songs there were some beautiful, meaningful ballads. A must-have in any country music collection.

Raw experimentation at its best........2002-03-27
This album demonstrates what is right with Punk rock. You will not find sing along songs and three chord progressions here. You will not find pity me grunge or my girlfriend left me emo core. What you will find is tight, well executed, jazz influenced, noise driven by anger. You be neck deep in you righteous hole.

One disc of this deluxe two-disc set serves up 74 minutes (eight songs) of live material and outtakes; the other offers a DVD (in Surround 5.1) of Tool's four grotesquely artistic videos, plus the bonus clip, "Hush," from their 1992 Opiate EP. Although there's little that's new here, it's put together with as much intensity and attention to detail as the quartet's other releases. The musical high point is the driving but delicate take on "Pushit." It's also entertaining to hear singer Maynard James Keenan in a Neil Young kind of mood on "Lame." This elaborately packaged set is really just a reminder of how creative and powerful this hard rock group can be. --Janiss Garza
Customer Reviews:
Amazing! A must have!.......2006-11-18
This is a must have for any Tool fan. Anyone who really appreciates Tool should have this set. The live tracks on the CD are just amazing and the music videos on the DVD are something that everyone should see.
Tool live.......2006-10-02
There are millions of Tool bootlegs of their lives shows available to download, or purhcase from your underground record store for about #30 a piece, all with horrible quality. I actually heard one bootleg where Maynard was sick and couldn't really sing at all.
"Salival" is i guess their "official" live release, that isn't all live tracks, but a few outtakes and studio tracks.
Basically, this is a live album done the way Tool does things, their own. One can never expect anything to be the way THEY want it to be with a Tool release, they make music and art for themselves, by themselves.
Nevertheless, the songs found on this CD are very good. The "Third Eye" rendition is done well. You can really tell that the band does NOT need all the studio tricks, I think that "Third Eye" sounds really good live, and not boring like many people are stating. The live version of "Push-it" is done really well with a whole new conception of the song, adding Tabla solos and more emotion and melody in the vocals and guitar. "Harry manback" makes a second appearance, there are some live covers(which very from the satisfactory Peach song, to the amazing cover of Led Zepplins "No Quarter"). "Merkaba" is a very experimental track that makes a nice addition to your Tool collection, as does the very last song "Maynard's Dick", a funny satire on the whole "Rock God" thing, a kind of parody song of the "Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll" mentality.
The videos are decent, but they are not why I purchased this box set.
I hear a lot of complaints as to why there are no "making-of" or "behind the scenes" stuff included, but in my experience, Tool has never been that kind of band. They have never preferred the spotlight or being idolized by their fans whom Maynard has often referred to as "sheep". Fans expecting some kind of all out "confession" to the inner workings of Tool will be very disappointed.
This is a great box set to own though
Not bad but..........2006-05-30
This set is awesome, yes, but it is limited addition and costs way too much. This is a prime example of why people share files on the internet. $200? No way, download it.
For all those who gave a one star review..........2006-04-12
It got such a positive response the first time, I thought I'd repost my love for Tool's insightful music. Keep that positivity flowing!
Yeah, man. I used to be like really stupid. I got bad grades in school. But then I started listening to Tool's music and I was like, "whoa!" and now I'm really smart, and no one is smarter than me in my whole school, including the teachers! They should market "Undertow" on TV as a way to get kids to do better in school, because it makes you intelligent. It's a scientific fact! All you people who give this album a negative review whould go and listen again, because some times you have to listen more than once. And if you still don't get it after like 30 listens, then listen 30 more, because listening that much to a rock and roll band is in no way pathetic. Besides, being a Tool fan makes you a card carrying member of the special club, where you get to talk about Tool and the occult and about how Maynard's childhood was so tragic and nothing like that has ever happened to anyone else and how now he's my god and astrology and Tool chatrooms and Tool T-Shirts and Tool CDs and books off the Tool website and how horrible capitalism is. Don't you wanna be a member of the club?
This CD has changed my life completely. I used to have no friends and I spent a lot of time in my parent's basement. And now.... well, I still don't have friends and I live in my parent's basement, but the people online understand that I "get" how Tool's music is an excellent replacement for the voids in my life that otherwise would have been filled with a college education and religion (yuch!!!!!!!!!!!). And that one song where Maynard says, "I can't say what I want to" is like, so true, because we live in a democracy which just let's the man hold Maynard back. What we need to do is set up socialism, with Maynard at the top and he'll provide for the rest of us and we never have to get jobs because he's so talented. He's like, outgrown his fans, too. Except me. Like, some days, I listen to "AEnima" which is an awesome word that pieces together a medical term and a Jungian word which is so, like, revolutionary and I'm so cool and smart because I get that. Well, I didn't really get that on my own, but I was the one who pushed the buttons while I was on the internet, in between visits to the Tool messageboard of course. But some days, I listen to the album and piece together the Bill Hicks references and after a few hours, I get them all, and I feel so accomplished and brilliant and that isn't a waste of a day at all. And then I go onto another album, like "Lateralus" (that's half the name of the muscle Vastus Lateralis!!!!!!!) and I link all the occult anatomy references and I learn a lot that week. And then I listen to that bootleg I got and then the DVD I got off ebay from another guy who "gets Tool" and suddenly I've spent a year putting all these things together from the lyrics and I'm like "Whoa, I thought I was smart before, but now I'm REALLY smart," you know, because I've spent so much time listening to Tool and talking about Tool on the internet, and suddenly it's been, like five years, which is perfect because that's how often my gods put out an album. It's odd I haven't realized yet that I've completely dedicated myself to a ROCK BAND and all my money, opportunity, and life have been paid over to Tool. It's just a good thing that I think for myself and that I'm so different from all the other Tool fans that do the exact same thing I do. Yep, good thing.

Not much else to add here but ignore the reviews from "Reviewer: ElvisCostellosWeiner "Chekhov Is The Greatest", if you read his reviews on other items, he hates Tool (doesn't actually listen to them or buy them) and think's Meatloaf is the second coming.
All the material that Tool releases averages from great to outstanding. They clearly outpace anyone in the music industy today. I am looking forward to their new release in April or May, titled ' 10,000 days ' and said reviewers inane input.
