Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21

The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.

2 out of 5 stars Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2006-05-17

The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

5 out of 5 stars An all time classic band & release.......2007-06-26

As others here have commented on,this incredible album unfortunately came at the worst possible time for this type of "metal".This is some amazing songwriting, any doubts to the talent possessed by this band only need hear this! It truly is a shame how criminally overlooked Voivod was at this time.Such is life,I suppose

5 out of 5 stars AN ALL-TIME FAVORITE.......2006-01-22

For my money, this is the high point of Voivod's career. I was so blown away by this thing that I actually bought five more copies to send to friends around the country. I've never done that with ANY other recording by ANY other artist. Amazing and ROCKIN'!

5 out of 5 stars Truly Awesome.......2005-12-21

I feel pity for anyone who have never heard this album because it is amazing! The band has always been a gem amongst the trendy clones that have come out of the metal scene. Every song on this album is exciting and unique, and so well-structured. And there is nothing I can compare to "Jack Luminous" because the song is a real journey, it's awe-inspiring. This album is at the top of my favorite Voivod records, second only to Nothingface.

5 out of 5 stars 3-D GLASSE's AND ALL!!!!! CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-05

My version has the 3-D glasses..and that is a very unique idea!! something alot of bands could and should do!!

This is the more heavy and less ''commercial'' version of ANGEL RAT..which was a great album(see my review!)

Every song on here is 100% VOIVOD!!! no one can touch them when they are at their peek..and this was their peek!!

This stars off with the upbeat ''FIX MY HEART''..very catchy and full of LIFE!!

''LE PONT NOIR'' is a dark number..that is also CATHCEY!!
''WHY DOSENT HE WANT SECRACEY''

''JACK LUMINOUS'' ha..17 freakin minutes long..no one can touch that..and it dosent get boring either!! THE BEST ON THE ALBUM!!

''WRONG WAY STREET'' is great as well..GREAT LYRCIS about how we are living in a NOG HELL!!(well to me thats how they appear!)

''WE ARE NOT ALONE'' is a great closer..it wraps up the theme to this SCI-FI METAL ride!!

I have had this for what seems like for ever..one of my PERSONAL FAVE albums..skrew ''GERNES'' this breaks em all..
AND AWAY WAS ONE OF THE BEST DRUMERS EVER..EVER!!

AND R.I.P. PIGGY..YOUR PLAYING WAS LIKE NO OTHER!!

5 out of 5 stars Voivod Sneaks Another One in Under the Radar.......2004-07-25

This album came out in in 1993, when the biggest bands on MTV were Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Snoop Doggy Dogg. Most of that stuff bored me at the time, mainly because I was discovering things like The Outer Limits. This was the very first Voivod CD I ever owned, and I've been in love with it for over 10 years now.

In some ways this album is a continuation of the direction Voivod had been heading in at least since Nothingface, but it really isn't imaginable without Angel Rat as a predecessor. The biggest difference between the two is in the production, which is bigger and heavier than Angel Rat, as well as the songwriting, which is a lot stronger, in my opinion. Piggy's guitar work on this album has astonished me for over a decade -- his creativity and use of layering single lines and chords really does manage to create an "unearthly" sound. Plus he uses quartal harmony (notably in "The Lost Machine" but also in "Moonbeam Rider" and elsewhere), which is highly unusual for metal -- it's something you'd normally find in jazz and modern classical music.

I love Voivod not because I am a die-hard metal fan but because they have made a unique and lasting contribution to the genre. To me, The Outer Limits is a big part of the Voivod legacy and will always remain one of my favorite albums.

5 out of 5 stars Frontiere's other scores deserve to be released, dammit.......2005-06-25

Frontiere is one of Planet Earth's leading theologians and I'm here to concur with Inheritor's demand for the other scores. Especially Frontiere's FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN. My favorite part of NEVER BORN is that swirling & ascending woodwinds passage.

1 out of 5 stars Unavailable.......2005-03-11

I cannot recommend that you order this CD since it was never sent to me.
After an inexplicable delay of two months following an online order in January, I was informed that another delay would make this item unavailable until sometime in April.
No explanation was given.
Apparently the CD is advertised here but don't expect to get it anytime soon.
I found the entire experience frustrating, unhelpful and dishonest to say the least.

5 out of 5 stars You are about to experience the best!.......2004-10-30

A#1. I agree with the other reviewers. It's wonderful but where's the rest of it? I have had the cassette version for at least 6 years. They call it Vol. 1. But after several years, there is still only this one volume. I love it. I've listened to it over and over. But I want the rest. And you will too! You all gotta buy this recording. If you remember the original Outer Limits, You'll drool listening to this!!!
Update 08-26-04: I found out from the number one man (Neil Norman) that they have no plans for any more volumes. I've written several letters and they're probably tired of hearing from me. How about you all writing some? Thanks
10-29-04: Since Mr. Norman has the original masters, that means no one else would be able to release any of this music. Maybe he doesn't want to take the time to clean it up. Well, I for one would take it anyway I can get it. Why doesn't he release the masters to another record company? Let someone else give us what we are craving for? PLEASE???

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing!.......2003-01-30

Though it had the main theme song, there were choice bits of sound effects and mood music left out, the ones I remember the best. I'm still waiting for them to come out with volume 2; maybe it will contain the missing vital sound tracks?

5 out of 5 stars You are about to experience "The 40th Anniversary"........2003-01-06

Well this disk has been around since 1993. That was ten years ago. To discover the release was for me the music find of all time. However there is a flaw in its conception. It was meant to be part of a trilogy. The advent of the 32 story DVD set must reveal that the first series is rich with the most unique pieces of music ever made for a television series. What is missing are the other most essential soundtracks; "Don't Open Till Doomsday"(Robert Van Eps) and "Forms of things Unknown"(Dominic Frontiere). The music from these stories, demonstrate both a subtle and intense atmosphere. Chilling creepiness, dire tragedy and complete horror. The closest music to rival the work of Bernard Herrmann. What happened to these? What happened to the trilogy? Disk One provides us with the first essential "Outer Limits" soundtrack, "The Man Who Was Never Born". It encompasses all the elements I described about the latter two. We hear the original main theme music in all of its dramatic power and majesty. We also have "The Hundred Days of the Dragon " and "Nightmare". These are exceptionally good. The sound effects were really unnecessary and I would gladly sacrifice them for more of the great first series music. So I would like to plead with GNP Crescendo to revisit their plan to complete the Outer Limits Trilogy for the year of its 40th Anniversary....

Album Description

Beneath the subsonic bass of producer Bill Laswell, the funk -laden beats of drummer Brain, the extreme guitar terror of mutant virtuoso Buckethead and the deftly rendered scratching of guest DJ's DXT, Mixmaster Mike and Disk, Praxis represents an inspiring, at times mesmerizing and even harrowing foray into the collective mind of a lethally futuristic live unit. Digipak. 2001 release.

2 out of 5 stars I simply didn't like it.......2005-03-26

I'm a huge Funkadelic fan, and I'm still getting into Praxis. This CD is 100% techno, so if you are into that kind of stuff, go ahead and buy it. I don't mind random electronic music (I'm also a big King Crimson fan), but the music on this CD is not the best quality, and it's really repetitive.

If you need English version, I say: I waintin for your mail. This is been the best concert Bill Laswell in Poland, i'm waintg for "Bill Laswell day" on the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days

5 out of 5 stars Praxis live on stage is an experience.......2001-12-19

This is a different crew than Mutatis Mutandi -- the album that Praxis is perhaps best known for. DXT, Mix Master Mike, and Disk replace Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worell, and AF NMF. Bill Laswell (of course), Buckethead, and Brain are all along for the ride too.

After listening to this CD I said to myself, "Damn! Poland got one hell of a show." Praxis live will alter your nervous system forever, and that comes through on this CD. Once again Bill Laswell's demonstrates his genius by finding and fusing together master musicians from all walks. This album is turntable-heavy. Mix Master Mike -- who you may know from some of his work with Beastie Boys -- lays down a couple phenomenal sets. Brain and Buckethead were born to jam together.

For classic Praxis pick up Mutatis Mutandis, for some of the best cosmic industrial funk shred get your hands on Sacrifist, and to wet your mouth for Praxis live, definitely check this one out.

5 out of 5 stars Praxis Live From Poland.......2001-08-08

Pluses: Great opportunity to listen to a CD that most would not normally be able to (originally available as an insert in an obscure Polish music magazine) plus actual separation of the 5 main tracks on the CD

Minuses: I liked the original edit better (this one, for instance, edited out some great lyrics from the samples at the beginning).

Overall: A great live CD from an incredibly intense band. Even though it was recorded a number of years ago, it's still quite current. It includes some good scratch stuff and several "classic" Praxis tunes. If you're NOT into Top 40, this CD is for you!

    Product Description

OUTER LIMITS is one of the major acts of the so-called Eighties' Japanese School of Progressive rock. Famous for its exceptional melodic refinement, the band was also keen on a romantism that can be linked with the Italian School (QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA, PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI, LOCANDA DELLE FATE...). The group displayed a brand of sophisticated art-rock, with delicate and precious sounds, enlightened by lyrical violin parts, Mellotron layers and fine guitar arpeggios. Considered as the best and most inspired Japanese band, OUTER LIMITS could have been of of the masters of Progressive rock, somewhere between KING CRIMSON and UK, if only it has been British. Tomoki UENO shines in the role of the opera singer, in the unmistakable style he has made his own. The first album "Misty Moon" (1985) is regarded as one of the classics of the genre: one can find a great collection of epic tracks, dominated by emphatic keyboards parts, a lyrical violin and a crimsonian guitar. "A Boy Playing The Magical Buggle Horn" has been recorded one year prior to "The Scene Of Pale Blue" (1987). "The Silver Apples On The Moon" has been captured live (Without an audience) for a radio broadcast in 1989, showcasing the musicians' best tracks. "Outermania" is the last opus to date: it's a compilation indeed, published in 1993. Six years later, OUTER LIMITS was to announce its reunion, and a new album was scheduled... And if we eventually had to wait eight years more to see things happening (Twenty years after the last real studio album !), this was just to prove that OUTER LIMITS is definitely time-proof. Still published on the Musea label, this new rendition is called "Stromatolite" (2007). Tomoki UENO is not here anymore, but the rest of the crew is, keyboards player Shusei TSUKAMOTO and violinist Takashi KAWAGUSHI at the front. Add to this that this reunion is more than the usual brand of nostalgia: the compositions, still mainly written by the keyboards player, are simply amongst the bes

John Van Tongeren's score for The Outer Limits series is almost subliminal. Paralleling the show's surreal, intellectual qualities, the composer builds suspense through subdued tension rather than bombastic orchestral attacks, though there are a few of those. The overall musical effect emphasizes a surreptitious approach to getting under your skin. Considering those parameters, The Outer Limits becomes more effective as creepy background audio than an active, sit-down listening experience. Aside from two versions of the main theme, eight episodes are represented in varying degrees. There's also a cool techno remix that effectively chops up and samples the opening narration. --Bryan Reesman

4 out of 5 stars prepare to be mesmerized.......2000-08-24

Behold the ultimate background CD! It sets any mood perfectly from happy and upbeat to dark and mysterious.

It has one flaw in it's perfection, in my humble oppinion most of the songs are absolutely meant to exist solely on the background, they set a perfect mood but they never reach beyond that. It's silent and manipulative music that crawls under your skin only to leave you with a strange sense of "what have I just been listening to!"

If you want a cd that is perfect for the background of a silent, moody night or party, most of the songs on this cd will do the trick. If you want a cd that is filled with music that sweeps you off of your feet and impresses you for days to come, then this cd isn't what you've been waiting for. If you're into beautifull mood-setting music or marvelous soundtracks then this is certainly what you've been looking for.

5 out of 5 stars An artistic masterpiece.......2000-06-18

This CD is a true instrumental masterpiece that has an eerie sound that gives you the kind of feeling that you get every time you watch the TV series. This is a must have for anyone who even remotely likes the New Outer Limits TV series

      Album Description

Jerry Cole, supreme studio guitar session man from almost every '60s record you've ever heard, also moonlighted as chief fret-bender with his Spacemen, whose original albums are today revered as surf classics. 1963's Outer Limits, now on compact disc for the first time, rides pounding oceans of reverb, deftly skims by the pier and hits the beach running with not a hair out of place, just in time to frug and watusi alongside a bevy of bikini-clad nubiles. Taken from the stereo master tapes, this bona fide partystarter can now take its rightful place as a cornerstone of the surf legend.
