BANGIN!!!!!.......2007-07-08
This mix just blew my mind! It took me back to my time at Crobar in Miami, Twilo in NYC...Vinyl (aka Arc) in NYC as well!! I just can't get over how track after track it took me to a huge rush! A mix like this is when Vic canes it out at 3 or 4am!! I LOVED this CD! Besides that, the tracks also had all the luscious elements of deep and dark REAL Tribal house!
Keep chugging it Victor!!!
A DEFINITE buy for lovers of Tribal.

Some 15 years and nearly as many albums into her career, Ani DiFranco--the original girl-power prophet and folkie punk--is still as willful as ever. Her lyrics remain poetic, polemical, and yes, occasionally maudlin; her musical explorations sound more like refinement than radical revision, but it's clear that she's still, well, evolving. Always a strikingly gifted and expressive singer and guitarist who employs her voice and guitar as both rhythmic and melodic instruments, DiFranco builds this set of songs on those basics but draws generously from the wide range of styles she's sampled since her stripped-down early days. A slinky Latin guitar line snakes through "Promised Land," gutsy New Orleans brass adds swagger to "In the Way," and jazzy keys, cool clarinets, and mournful muted trumpets lend color and tone to nearly every cut. Hooks are scarce in the disc's mushy middle, but the lush, horn-laden groove of "Here for Now" recaptures the momentum, and DiFranco even drops a signature 10-minute epic in "Serpentine." Like Evolve itself, "Serpentine" is sprawling, funny, angry, compelling, and entirely unafraid. --Anders Smith Lindall
Customer Reviews:
Hmmm..........2006-08-10
I've had this album for several weeks, and I'm still not sure of my stance on it. I've listened to it about eight times, and I really think I don't like it. I want to like it, but I just feel that it's not the best than ani can produce. I know she has better. I think this album might be the product of so many releases... (26 albums and 3 EPs in 16 years? Ani, you might be overworking yourself. But then again, I know nothing) Anyway. I love it, because it's part of my never-ending ani difranco collection, but like I said, just not to ani's caliber.
The Worst!.......2006-04-02
I started listening to Ani in 1996. I immediately loved her music. The first song I heard was "Gratitude" followed by "Untouchable Face". I own all of her albums, excluding the spoken word ones, "Knuckle Down", and "Educated Guess". Ani was my very favorite musician from 1996 to 2003. I saw her in concert numerous times. She is an exceptional lyricist, and though some find her music to be harsh and her voice unappealing, I love her singing and instrumentals also. I loved every album that she released up to this one, including "Reveling/Reckoning," which some of her older fans didn't like.
I hate this album. I find it horribly disappointing. Even if it weren't Ani it would be disappointing, but the fact that it is makes me dislike it all the more. It's depressing and boring. The lyrics are not up to her usual standards, or even the standards of a lesser artist. The sound is dull and unpleasant. She should have taken a long vacation rather than record this album. Her heart is so obviously not in it. It's forced and often incoherent. It's like she had nothing to say, but she tried to say something anyway. It's self indulgent and somewhat pathetic sounding, like she's complaining in a half assed way about something she isn't even clear on. I also think the instrumental aspect is overdone.
After listen to this album a few times I found that not only did I never want to hear it again, but that I couldn't even listen to Ani's older albums for quite some time. That's how disgusted I was. That was my honest reaction. I just felt so ripped off and disillusioned. I know that some people like this album, and that is almost inconceivable to me, especially considering the quality of Ani's earlier work. I did not buy another Ani album again. I did listen to some tracks off of "Knuckle Down" and "Educated Guess" online, and I didn't like them either. I have only recently started listening to her pre-evolution works again.
I would not recommend this album to anyone, Ani fan or not. It's just awful. Buy something released before 2003.
At least she's consistent............2006-02-25
As is the case with most Ani albums in my opinion she's got a couple jems on there and that's about it. This album didn't even have many gems the one song that stood out (And really held it's ground.) Was the song Evolve itself. That tunes was almost worth the $18, and there are a couple other tunes that aren't bad but then the rest of it as is the case with all of her other albums is kinda bland.
A disappointing effort from a brilliant artist..........2005-08-07
I'm not going to compare this album with her brilliant previous efforts like "Dialate" and "Living in Clip"; it's quite obvious that Difranco is reinventing her sound (again), heading off in new directions and veering away from the 'grrrrrrraaaaarggh' sound that encapsulated her early work. It's also quite frustrating because it's desperately trying not to sound like' Reveling and Reckoning', but the effect is the same: an incredible blend of texures and complex metaphors ,all mixed and honed for maximum precision until it resembles a lyrical Concorde ready to rip through the clouds. Sadly however, this plane dosen't have any gas to speak of. There's no energy, no forward momentum, nothing to pull this thing along and keep the the album's EEG active. I'm not saying she needs a throbbing precussion or rythym section, but there's so much going on here, and so little moving it, that the listening experience is quite like running in place. Her live performances aside, Difranco has produced far lesser material than this, and excuted better, which come off sounding better than 'Evolve'.
Evolve means NOT sounding the same.......2005-05-17
This album came out when I was going through real dark times and it's darkness sort of picked me up, saying: we can go thru this together. When I listen to the newer albums [Evolve and onwards] I never expect them to sound like, say Out of Range or Little Plastic Castle; they can't be, because it's impossible to be in a state of mind that you were yesterday or the day before. All those "righteous babes" who have their "panties a little too tight" -- loosen up and embrace her as she is changing her colors. I think Evolve is a turning point, from girlhood to womanhood sort of way, it's not a happy album, it's a bridge that goes on to another sombre phase [Educated Guess] that can be best described as "akimbo."

Product Description
Evolve's chilled out grooves and breaks are produced by Red. Their debut outing, Happy Hour In The Gene Pool is a delightful blend of lounge pop, subtle beats, found sound, and mellow jazz influences, a lounge lizard s idea of heaven on Earth. The overall vibe is predominantly mellow, and the arrangements ooze sophistication and depth. Singer Margo Reymundo features on two tracks contributing her distinctive raspy, Billy Holiday-esque jazzy vocal stylings to "Couldn't Be More Wrong" and "The Way Back", with rapper Tantrum providing the testosterone on "By Definition: Cool" and "Mice On The Ice". Happy Hour In The Gene Pool manages to stay focused and coherent throughout it s sixty plus minutes while providing enough diversity to maintain interest, and enough depth to sustain repeated listenings. Most of the tracks presented here are ripe for the plucking by nearly any of the hundreds of chill out mix albums being released. The album is equally enjoyable to chill out to whether on headphones, at a cocktail party or on a long drive. Happy Hour In The Gene Pool contains a little something for every electronica music fan, which, in this case, is a good thing.

Chill out music at it's best.......2007-05-11
Excellent album and I'm happy to own it. In my humble opinion, the following three tracks are exceptional:
3 Couldn't be more wrong
4 By definition: Cool
10 Where where you (Sunday Afternoon)
Evolve seem to have been influenced by a wide range of musicians in the field of chill out, trip-hop and lounge music. "By definition: Cool" sometimes even reminds me of "Stereo MC's".
Apart from the above mentioned highlights, there's some smoother/quieter tracks.
I live in Zurich, Switzerland, and was unable to find this album in Europe, which is a bit of a shame.Happy Hour In The Gene Pool
Smoothjazz.com Review.......2007-01-16
And what a swanky, swirling, sophisticated happy hour it is! A mingling mélange of smooth grooves and chilled tracks from beginning to end. Evolve has a superb and intelligent recording here; one that makes even the most blasé music enthusiast sit up and take notice with its rich instrumentation and arrangements featuring killer drum programming and loops, trumpet, flugelhorn and keyboards, as well as brilliant lyrical notions and outstanding vocals from the sultry Margo Reymundo and intriguing nu-rap from Tantrum. The man behind the evolution of Evolve? Only the coolest Brit in California with a name to match, Red Broad. Red's work on HAPPY HOUR IN THE GENE POOL is deep and poignant, yet shallow enough to wade in with friends while sipping cocktails. Evolve is genre defining in my opinion; a standard by which other artists should measure their work and quality. In a time when the music industry requires life support, Evolve has just shot an injection of clever and unique into its veins and offers the consumer a reason to buy the entire project, not just a tune. More please! More music that appeals to the senses and packages itself in a stunning, shiny digipak that you never want to put down. SmoothLounge.com invites you to Evolve.~SANDY SHORE

Songs For The Restless Is Way Better.......2005-06-27
This is the album that makes them sound like they really need to mature. In SFTR, gone is the wierd, industrial-like sound bits that make this one hard to listen to. Anyway, a couple of standout tracks. (Leave Us Alone, Malice, Beat Around The Bust) The rest is pretty much garbage. Every cd follows a pattern. This is the "We have a few good songs but we really need to mature" cd. Songs For The Restless is the "I can listen to every song on this" type cd. We all know which one is better. SFTR!!!
FILE 13 MATERIAL !!!!! .......2005-01-18
This really is the worst CD I have ever bought, This group has absolutely NO TALENT. The music is not even discernable and the Lyrics, well lets just say my 2 year old neice makes more sense. I wish I had bought a Bee Gee's Greatest Hits or something I could have at least given to my mom. This is File 13 material.
kind of strange, not too bad.......2005-01-01
endo was first introduced to me thru the dracula 2k soundtrack with the song "malice".the song was subpar, but i figured they would be worth a shot.the first few cuts, "leave us alone" and "penicillin" are good, really heavy and groove heavy rock songs."suffer" was the singel released and wasnt that bad."beat around the bush" is my eprsonal favorite.the snare drum just sounds so good in the song, witht he audible overtones and such.this album is about average numetal, when it was just starting to rise as a massive genre it is today.if you are looking for something new, give it a try.their sophomore cd "songs fo the restless" is a complete 180 from this one, so give that disc a try also.
Endo...Live in Spfld.......2004-11-09
Had never heard of Endo until I heard them "warm up" for another band. They absolutely BLEW the place away!!! I love their sound, their lyrics, but most of all...THEIR ATTITUDE! They are still one of my most favorite bands.
Let's begin..........2004-08-25
When I first walked into this album, I was VERY much against it. His voice sounds like M. Manson, on a bad day and the lyrics just sound like generic angry ones.
But the music REALLY is good, it starts to seep into you and find a nice comfy place in the back of your skull.
Its not quite rock rap, and not quite indus. and not quite metal, but its a happy blend of them all.

Album Description
The long awaited and much anticipated third album from these avant/art/textural rockers. They continue to push the boundaries expoused by their motto "Atmosphere, Arrangement, Sound, Layering, Noise."
Customer Reviews:
A bit too much of atmospheric filler.......2007-03-12
Even though Bethany Curve continued to follow their self-described credo -"atmosphere arrangement sound layering noise," the band's third album "You Brought Us Here," simply doesn't measure up to their first two ("Skies A Crossed Sky" and "Gold"). Sure, it has the one great song "Long Beach," which is clearly one of the band's best (and according to IPod, their most downloaded track). Indeed "Long Beach" has its sublime moments. But besides "Silver" which, to my mind, is basically another version of "Long Beach," the album kind of meanders along with gloomy atmospheric music that becomes downright tedious. Some of the tracks might have benefitted from some drastic editing, but it's hard to say.
As an atmospheric meditative exercise, "You Brought Us Here," isn't bad. And it does have that one great song. But I don't think it's comparable to Bethany Curve's first two albums which I like quite a bit more and find much more exciting.
A NEW FAN.......2003-08-29
I was in Tower Records in SF last week and heard the first track, "Long Beach" over the PA system and bought the CD immediately. The best I can describe it is a giant wave of distorted tones that together make incredible melodies. Not for the fragile minded. Some very moody and beautiful stuff. Going from one song to the next is like chapters in a book. Each song has a different story to tell.
Phenomenal!.......2003-08-12
What else can I add to what's already been written? If you like space rock (like Spiritualized), shoegaze/dream pop (like Slowdive) and/or musical introspection, then this CD will blow your mind! Through the beautiful background noise pierces transcendent reverberating guitars that will take you away to blissful splendour. I've been reading a lot of Jungian books lately, and this was the perfect soundtrack, so to speak, for Jung's ideas on the archetypes of the unconscious and the mythologies of the mind. Your imagination will flow; creativity will abound. True avant-garde rock. Buy this!
You Brought Me There.......2002-05-24
Yes sir, they certainly did. I recently attended a Bethany Curve concert in southern California and it was quite a treat. I expected to hear the typical "shoegaze" sound that thousands of bands are exploiting right now (do they realize that they all sound the same?). Anyway, Bethany Curve's presentation of music is beyond the ordinary "shoegaze" sound. Their music incorporates a unique dash of moodiness in every song. Something that is just not done correctly by anyone else. "You Brought Us Here" presents that moodiness is a great way. This record has a particular rawness that is perfect for their style. It's a rawness that grabs you and doesn't let go. I highly recommend the songs Long Beach and Airplanes Down.
Bethany Curve Rocks!.......2002-01-28
This is Bethany Curve's best effort to date. The CD is rich with lush soundscapes and melodies topped off with hints of well captured noise.

Customer Reviews:
Jello does it again.......2006-07-26
You can't go wrong with Biafra's fantastic sense of humor, especially in conjunction with his ever-scathing political commentary.
This is a highly listenable and entertaining set of cds, which is not to undermine their importance. They are challenging and thought-provoking, addressing contemporary social and political issues, and weave together a perfect blend of satire and seriousness.
The most economics-oriented of Biafra's albums.......2004-12-25
Jello Biafra pontificates on a number of issues that I personally find important: the need for teenagers and young adults to have free access to entertainment, music and media of their choice; the banality and anti-aestheticism of "mainstream suburbia" and the suit-and-tie, Christmas-shopping, pro-sports mentality fed to us in the media (that's how their corporate sponsors make money after all).
But here Biafra is much more concerned with the economics playing behind the scenes. Rather than "whine" about Tipper Gore, the PMRC and their efforts to deny people under a certain age certain types of albums (and movies, video games, possibly even live concerts), here Biafra goes into a much more powerful threat to freedom and democracy: corporate power and the DE FACTO censorship and authoritarianism it brings. You could best think of this album as a rebuttal to conservative economist Milton Friedman's book CAPITALISM AND FREEDOM.
This album was recorded in late 1997/early 1998, the era of anti-gang paranoia, the Newt Gingrich regime, NAFTA, drug wars, welfare reform, and Wall Street uber-alles. Biafra clearly points out President Clinton's repeated concessions to the conservative right, not just the Wall Street right but also cultural reactionaries (one of which would have been first lady had the Supreme Court not handed the 2000 pres election to Bush). This frustration over pro-corporate, pro-suburbia, anti-marijuana, anti-musical freedom "liberal" Democrats was certainly at least part of the fuel behind Ralph Nader's 2000 campaign.
Biafra points out, very honestly, that the corporate media deliberately blames society's problems on everything except the real cause (how screwed up our economic system is (this is a verbatim quote)), which not only unnecessarily scapegoats innocent people like Marilyn Manson and divides the nation among race and culture lines, but assures that the real problems will never be solved.
Of course, to inspire the people for social change, he also gives examples of how Russians and Eastern Europeans overthrew their communist-by-name-only regimes and set up democracies run, in some cases, by rock musicians! Granted, neocapitalist fervor has been pushed too hard on the ex-"communist" countries, but the basic idea of a mass of people overthrowing a corrupt and elitist political regime is definitely something that a democratic socialist like myself can wholeheartedly support!
After listening to this album you too will be inspired to renounce the capitalist economic ideology and dream of the day when America will experience a general strike. Even if you don't agree with Biafra's (or my) quasi-socialist philosophy of wealth, work and property, you will be forced to admit that America is going down the tubes and that "It's the economic system, [...]"
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor........1999-01-11
If you didn't get the summary and for some reason actually took it literally, then you've probably never listenned to the Dead Kennedys. Well, ex-Kennedy lead singer Jello Biafra has taken his razor blade-like social awareness and criticism to spoken word. You won't believe what you learn, and worst of all you'll never be able to pledge allegiance again(OH NO!!). Buy this. Yeah, yeah. I know that's all you hear every evening as you vegetate in front of the new opiate of the masses, i mean television, but this might actually wake you up. Besides, if you've found your way to this review than you must have some interest in Biafra or the Dead Kennedys. If you just stumbled upon this as a poor innocent good citizen, well, good. You need this. It's like Viagra for the brain. Arm the homeless!
