5 out of 5 stars Profound Viking/Black Metal.......2006-08-08

Enslaved is a band that has never dissapointed me in any of their albums. Their musicianship and songwriting is way above a lot of band's in this genre. They do more in one song than most band's do in an entire album. Song arrangements are complex and staggering, IMO. But, that is just one factor of this band that is impressive. Enslaved create music with an indelible passion. I always "feel" like a Viking after listening to this. I raise my mug of warm mead, and my sword is drenched in my enemies blood. I then bed my lady in a maze of orgasmic sweat and love. Alright, so most think I'm nuts, but this is how Enslaved's music affects me. My beautiful woman never complains. So, there you go, add to cart NOW. Btw, the first song-793 The Battle of Lindisfarne is simply the best Viking epic maybe ever written.

4 out of 5 stars Enslaved forever!.......2004-06-18

This is a great viking metal album, from the fjords of Norway comes a hard hitting and energetic album, I particulary like track nr 5 For lenge siden (A long time ago)
Vocals are in norwegian but dont let that stop you from buying this album!!

Real metal? Don't even get me started. A one star review that has absolutely nothing to do with the band Enslaved comming from someone who can't even spell or punctuate properly. Leave your rants for the Hatebreed fans.

Enslaved is one of the greatest pagan/black metal bands of all time and this is probably their best effort of their career. Enough said really, listen to the samples and decide for yourself.

Leave your Metallica and Megadeth records with grandma, this type of metal is for the big boys.

1 out of 5 stars What real had rock/metal is!.......2006-04-04

kids in this new world don't know what real metal is. kids are influenced by screwed up metal like hatebreed and cradel of faith. thats not real metal. real metal is metallica, slayer, anthrax. megadeth, death angel, etc. thats real metal.

5 out of 5 stars Nordic Kings.......2005-10-09

Eld begins with the song "793 (Slaget Om Lindisfarne)" and as the eerie sounds of the opening orchestral keyboards and distant tribal drumming drift from the stereo, it signals the beginning of something big, something epic, something profound. at the 3:40 mark of the song, all hell breaks loose and the foggy misty shores have been invaded by the furious storming of this Viking horde known as Enslaved! the pace gallops along with fiercely strummed guitars and mournful vocals echoing the tale:

"Strokes from the oars could be heard, beautiful ships gushed through the sea. Like a wind from the North, our ancestors reached the shore. Men from Hordaland, Rogaland, and Agder gathered for battle in common. Proud men with no fear. Strokes from the sword crushed the skull of the christian."

wow. what a way to start an album. Enslaved's previous record, Frost, was limited in it's production, but contained some excellent songs and showed great potential, but i doubt that anybody was expecting their next album to be so monumental and so inspired. in fact, Eld's first track alone (all 16 minutes of it) is so unreal and vast in it's historical relevance and musical scope that the rest of the album almost pales in comparison to it. you'll find yourself going back and listening again and again. but once you continue with the rest of Eld you'll find it to be an utter masterpiece of supremely written and brilliantly composed viking battle metal!

i can't say enough great things about Enslaved. all their albums are treasures of excellent music and thought provoking imagery. but if you are new to this band, Eld is a really great place to start your journey. in my opinion, this album, as well as Blodhemn and Mardraum -Beyond The Wthin-, represent the purest essence and most focused period of this band. Enslaved's golden trilogy, if you will. Essential Metal! Hail!

5 out of 5 stars A truly great album.......2002-03-14

I had never really heard of the band before I bought this album, but when I got it, I didn't regret it at all. The first song on the album is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard. The album does a wonderful job bringing you back to Viking times.
