Blooze.......2006-09-07
A funny thing happens whenever a band makes it big. There's a mad dash to replicate the same formula, in an attempt to achieve the same success. It rarely ever works. Witness the mad rush to emulate Nirvana's success. During 1992, any band carrying a guitar in Seattle could get a record deal. And look at the number of bands that tried to grab hold of Korn's coat tails. There is now a generation of younger people who believe guitars all have seven strings, and bass guitars five.
Before Grunge and Nu-Metal were inflicted upon the world, there was a gold rush way out west. The race was on to find the next Guns N' Roses. Hindsight tells us now that the search was fruitless, but if a few things had turned out differently, like a little luck here, or the right amount of exposure there, it may have changed the course of history.
Many bands tried their luck, but fell by the wayside, due to lack of talent or good ideas. Some were never going to make it. Imagine if the likes of Bang Tango or Sea Hags or Circus Of Power had actually made some impression on the world. And then, some bands deserved success, but it never came, like Junkyard.
Junkyard's self-titled debut is a slab of sleaze, one part social commentary, one part celebration of the seamy side of life. While often lumped in with the hairspray and make-up Glam brigade, Junkyard's music has a harder, darker edge than much of the party time Pop emerging from LA at the end of the '80s. This album combines the best traditions of beer-soaked bar room Rock with old fashioned Blues boogie, sounding like a swaggering mutation of Motörhead and ZZ Top.
There are a number of highlights to be savoured. The laid back piano tinkling of "Simple Man" pre-dates the Gunners' `Use Your Illusion' albums and the ever awful Black Crowes, even if it sounds a little dated and clichéd now. David Roach's bourbon croaked vocals spin out a surprisingly gentle melody. "Hollywood" is a starry eyed anthem dedicated to Tinsel Town and its excesses. "Long Way Home" is a traditional drunken Blues number, like George Thoroughgood on heroin, played so slow it's almost going backwards.
Album closer "Hands Off" is the ultimate "get lost, I'm better off without you" song. Roach sounds like he's going to burst into tears at any moment because his girlfriend wants a bit of space, until he discovers she's sleeping with his best mate, and suddenly his resolve hardens. He belts out the chorus of the song with much gusto, which should be a drunken karaoke favourite of anyone who's ever been wronged by a woman.
Ultimately, Junkyard made only a small ripple in the wake of Guns N' Roses, missing the opportunities picked up by less deserving and less talented bands. Junkyard recorded a second album, `Sixes, Sevens And Nines' but by then it was too late. Guitarist Brian Baker went on to join Bad Religion. However, if this album conveys anything, it is that Junkyard deserve to be more than just a side note to Bad Religion's family tree.
blues,southern rock,glam..... what else ?.......2006-08-09
well, the title explains it all. I listened to this album the first time while I was touring Europe in 1993, and I can say that it really was the best soundtrack for that. I've been drinking, driving, travelling (by train)..."having fun"... partying all night long, and I never got bored about this. All friends were used to say "Junk who ?".... but now many of them have already this album in their rooms. Besides this, this is one of the best sleazy rock & glam album of all times. You can find southern rock, blues & glam at the same time. I'm wondering why they did not have the same success like GnR did. They mixed the southern blues with glam & blues, not very easy. It's not even easy to find an album with all tracks possible #1. No song is weak, all are incredible, the fast tracks make you drive through the desert or bang your head inside your room. The ballads make you dream about having your sweetheart on your side..... one easy example : the first song. "Blooze" is one of those song that want to make you hanging around and screaming down the streets and listening to your favourite music as loud as possible in your car stereo. "Hands Off" makes me wanna stay inside my room by myself, singing it as loud as possible, and dreaming about flying, anywhere I want. Let your soul & deep inside come out with this album, this is really gonna touch your heart and make you ride anywhere, anytime... I suggest listening to this album , while you're travelling.
love it.......2006-07-28
been looking off and on for this cd. SO was very happy with it.
Turn It Up.......2006-05-31
I thought I was the only one who heard this band until now. I heard this album along with Dangerous Toys back when I was 17 when this girl was dating turn down the lights lit incence and candles cracked open some JD and fired up a joint and layed me out, more ways in one. Great drinking, partying, driving, or kicking back album highly recomended for any collection of underated hard rock.
Greatest undiscovered rock band of the 80's/90's!!.......2006-04-09
This is a great straight-on rock n roll band. Great guitar and raw vocals, no posers or spandex here, just good ol' blue jean and beer breath rock. I have all of their albums and would recommend their live CD 'Shut up...we're tryin' to Practice' as their best.

A musical junkyard crammed with ups and downs.......2006-07-03
This Birthday Party's third and most notoir album literaly "Blasts off" with total noise, psychotic drums and screaming guitar terror; but then again, it's an LP that is made by a no-holds-barred punk act that's more of a crazed, insane lost-in-the-jungle war ensemble on the loose.
The songs TBP produces can be described best as "well structured chaos". It's fullblown punky mess, but with a mind behind it. Songs like "Six inch gold blade" and "Kwepie doll" are thunder without much point and probably will do nice on stage during cheap, messy, smokey, claustrophobic late night gigs.
"Dead Joe" and "Dead Joe (2nd version)" tell about a car crash and the songs sound just like one. "Hamlet (Pow pow pow)" takes on the graveyard scene from Shakespeare's legendary theatre play and "Several sins" stands out as a kind of eerie but beautiful "punk ballad".
The title track "Junkyard" is maybe the best song TBP ever cried out, with sneering guitars, up and down tempo, and singer Cave's dark voice, sometimes lowkey, sometimes highpitched screaming, perfectly in place. "Release the bats" is more of the same well-formulated chaos but with a catchy base drum by Mick Harvey that's really on a role.
I confess that TBP's first to albums "Hee-haw" and "Prayers on fire" didn't really got to me. Fifty percent of "Junkyard" did in a main way, just as the following (and last) TBP album "Mutiny / The Bad Seed" did.
In some ways, even more. TBP was really growing and maturing (which is really some kind of paradox: I always felt that punk music was mainly created to rage against maturity and the world of oppressing adults) and one would be curious what should have become of this nasty little Party had they not fall apart soon after release of "Mutiny / The Bad Seed".
abrasive, not that there's anything wrong with that.......2005-04-20
Anti 80's pop, nasty sounding, find out who your friends are
rock n roll. My favourite songs are Dead Joe (a classic), Pow
Pow Pow and The Dim Locator. Comparing The Birthday Party to
Midnight Oil is like comparing The Eagles to The Fugs. Not all
American Bands sound the same, ditto in Oz. (I think Midnight Oil are great by the way) This record is a bit
of a time capsule for me, having bought it on vinyl when it was
new. Different to Nick Cave's later stuff, but you don't need me
to tell you that. Junk sculpture turning back to junk junk junk
junk junk unk unk ughh ughh ohh ohh ohh Deaaadddd Joe...etc...
As some Aussies might say "It's a pearler".
UPSY DAISY. .......2004-07-26
this is what rock n roll should sound like. hip-shakin, gasoline sweatin, blood lettin grooviness. channeling the voodoo engergy of the carter family, the delta blues, rockabilly, the stooges, and james brown; bringing the love in the middle of the firefight and then kicking everyone in the county's teeth in.
fans should also check the hair police, xiu-xiu, the pop group, albert ayler, mississippi fred mcdowell, t. rex, and arthur doyle.
Truly Extreme Music.......2003-12-03
The Birthday party, to put it vulgarly, could rip off anyone's face and chew on their brains then, now and tomorrow as well. The Party emerged from the post punk movement that also spawned Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Cure and Christian Death, and which would later be called Goth. (Deathrock in the states) The Birthday Party, however would prove to be one of the most extreme and "hardcore" of lot. While Joy Division and The Cure prefered melancholy and gloom, and Bauhaus and Christian Death - boho artsiness, Nick Cave and his fellow loons gave us a bastard hybrid of garage rock, punk, rockabilly, blues and a bit of lounge as well. The thing that really set them apart was the all out fury and abandon found in their music. Even the fastest and loudest Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk bands could never dream of creating the atmosphere of raw, unadulterated anger, rage, and tension found on this album. It's almost murderous. Very fitting for songs like Six Inch Gold Blade and Dead Joe. (Probably the greatest Death Rock song ever recorded) One has to wonder what Nick Cave was doing while recording the vocals. Torturing himself with a branding iron maybe? The production values on this recording are almost non-exsistant. The sound is hollow. Low bass end, and ear piercing high end. No middle tone. The vocals sound like they were recorded in a bathroom, the guitar sounds out of tune, and the drums sound... well... broken! But all of these shortcomings add to the experimental nature of this album. And the lyrics... anyone familiar with Nick Cave can expect only some of his best here. Strange characters in ridiculous situations, tons of poetic metaphors and of course Death and Murder. A bit of b-movie horror with the Goth Anthem Release The Bats as well. Essential listening to anyone who thinks today's popular poseur artists are "extreme."
Very urgent, frantic.......2003-05-09
I saw Nick Cave and the Birthday Party twice - once at the Hammersmith Odeon and about six months later at St Albans. The first time I was amazed by the contrast between the performer and the man himself. I spoke to him briefly after the performance and he was cool, rational, and quite generous in his speech. Whatever you might object to, no-one who is a complete 'duh' can either write the songs, perform half so well, or even commission the cover art-
Nick was possibly doing quite a few things during those complicated days, I remember that we were simply being students, we thought "release the bats" was an ideal replacement for the national anthem... When we saw Nick at St Albans later, in spite of the fact that we had talked before, he gave me one of his wild man "better dial for a coffin" look... But that was Nick the performer, I guess, and it was worth the price of the ticket alone...!
This music depicts quite well a period of what can now be seen as a burgeoning political nihilism in England - a period when there was something like an undocumented and unofficial civil war - and when most of the national life was in tremendous turmoil. I don't know, and its very hard to tell, whether Nick was depicting his own internal landscapes in this, or trying to reflect the times, but from this perspective, i.e., the "aftermath", its very tempting to categorise him as that kind of artist, possibly a sort of figure like those at the end of the Soviet period, desperately composing something that needs the most urgent expression.

Album Description
Howard Stern has aired 5 calls off this 4th CD (formerly known as "Touch-Tone Terrorists"). By popular demand this CD features 20 of the ever-popular HI-JACKED customer service calls! These unsuspecting callers THINK they have dialed up various businesses, but instead they have unwittingly reached some very bad intentioned imposters. Actual customers get fed up then scream, yell and raise hell when treated to sarcasm, insults, and outright corruption! It's been said "You can't find good help these days" ...but it was never ever THIS bad!!! The cast of lunatic "customer care reps" include JUNKYARD WILLIE, JIM BOB the inbred hillbilly, BLADE the vomiting rocker, STU JAIMISON the arrogant big shot, and VLADIMIR the Russian with the attitude. Treat customers like this at your work and you'll be out of a job! Six of these 21 tracks include the angry auto insurance claim calls. How would you like it if you called up your insurance company over an accident (that was the OTHER driver's fault) and the claims adjuster falsely accused you of drinking and driving and in short order threw out your claim? You too would be just as angry as the callers on this CD!
Customer Reviews:
More of the same!.......2007-07-27
This is where I went wrong: I bought two different CD's from the Touch Tone Terrorists almost back to back. The first I received "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" cracked me up throughout. I enjoyed it and people with me did as well! The second CD "Customer Service Crackpots" is also funny (do not get me wrong) but is just the same as the first. Same voices and basically the same approach so really buying one is enough. That said, I rated it 3 stars if only because I did not find anything better than the first. Same voices and a great gift for aggravating callers. Let's just say that for now enough is enough. These are talented individuals but one or the other CD will do the job, not both!
Very funny.......2006-11-23
However, I was a little suprised at just how rude they got. Like when Jim Bob called this lady a stupid filthy bi... within the first 30 seconds of the call.
I've listened to the entire CD about 5 times and I've only owned a little over a week.
So Amazingly Hilarious.......2006-04-21
I cannot believe how funny this cd is. It is the last one and each cd gets funnier and funnier. Even though its just one guy doing the voices you still hear it through the customers point of view, getting transfered to some one new who is even more rude than the first guy. How funny was Jim Bobs laugh on "Save the drama" Stu Jamison is beyond funny not beleiving the woman when she told him she wasn't drunk. The telephone company was a complete riot. My favorite was "Respect for your customers" especially when Willie takes time to explain that because he's from the ghetto, thats why he's so rude, as if that justifies his attitude. I am not just saying that this is funny because I enjoyed it. This cd is worth the money and so incredibly hilarioius. It's great to listen to when you have company over. Just the fact that these calls have real people trying to call real companies
rather than pranking a real company makes it that much more funnier.
The BEST prank calls around.......2005-12-23
Especially if you work in a support position, this is "THE" CD for you. And yes, I agree with the Englishman who notes you really should purchase the entire collection. I have searched high and low, (especially low), and the Touchtone Terrorists are, without a doubt, the funniest gang in the crankcall business. They outdo Roy Mercer, the Arnold clones, Jerky Boyz, and all the other nitwits. With one possible exception, a bisexual New York kid, some guy I forget the name of, who has his own web site. His skit with the gay elderly Jew is really the best ever, a classic work of art in a weird way. He is affiliated with freakfarm dot com, other than that I don't know his handle.
But getting back to the TT, I will say that when they "make" a call, they suck. The fast-talking guy gets no laughs. But when they "receive" a call, they excel. I figured out how this gang operated and here's the scoop. They posted fliers on people's doors saying "We tried to deliver your package but you weren't home. Please call customer service at xxx-xxx-xxxx". So, maybe 1% of all people were expecting a package and call the number and then the fun begins. They have a great system because the callers are highly motivated to continue the conversation. Prank calls where you call someone are more difficult, because the answerer typically is more willing to disconnect.
Anywayz, this is truly great stuff from professionals. Don't try this at home, though because with Caller ID so prevalent these days, you just might get your head knocked about by somebody without a sense of humor. The best way to experience prank call Heaven is listening to a professional in action.
Junkyard Willie and his rude Friends are Hillarious.......2005-08-12
This cd had me laughing so hard that it actually felt like a work out. It has alot of quotes that you will be saying for your friends for years to come. My favorite is.. "For Crying Out Corn Flakes".

Real Rock & Roll.......2006-08-29
How a bunch of former punk rockers ends up in the middle of the Hollywood hair metal scene playing Southern-influenced barroom rock is anybody's guess, but that's exactly what the guys in Junkyard did. Amidst a sea of hairspray and power ballads, Junkyard served up bluesy hard rock with a Southern vibe and plenty of swagger, and their debut album turned out to be a pretty big hit.
For their 1991 album Sixes, Sevens and Nines, Junkyard continued to deliver the kind of alcohol-fueled straightforward hard rock that you'd expect to hear playing at your favorite local bar. These are real, gimmick-free rock & roll songs that hold up surprisingly well 15 years later.
Hair metal? Southern rock? Forget about labels. If you like good rock & roll, you'll want to check this album out.
Junkyard kiddies.......2004-08-16
They are one of lost southern true rock band, anyone would
enjoy this and anything from them from that matter,
too bad at the time the band came out, the thing
that was big was glamrock, or bubblegum rock...
no matter this band know how to put the music
down and make it a art form..true southern treasure
Dave Roach..the singer let you know what rocking
a crowd is about not to mention Brian Baker
old' schools punk guitarist makes you rethink
rock at it's best!
One of the great bar bands.......2004-04-29
The early '90s were filled with great bar bands. Some called them hair bands, some were glam bands, but one thing was for sure - you and your buddies were in for a great Saturday night when you could hear real live bands, drink real beer, and just rock. Heavy on the guitar, catcy riffs and lines, this albu is heavy on the good times. I finally grew up and bought a house three years ago. In the move I misplaced this album, and I've missed it for three years. I rediscovered it in a box down in the basement. In 5 minutes I ripped it to my PC and the whole house was rockin'. 'All the time in the world,' 'Nowhere to go but down' and 'Misery loves company' are the standouts on this album. If you cut your teeth on '80s and '90s pre-Nirvana music, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Otherwis remember, "misery loves company, but don't drag me down with you."

I listened to this cd awhile ago and then i listened to it after i bought grits (art of translation) FTF (fireproof) and many other cds and this lg wise just doesnt appeal to me. I got a headache after listening to We salute and other songs. I dont know how his other cds are but they have to be better than this.
Ghetto Fables Tells All.......2003-02-08
Ghetto Fables is an awesome CD. I love it! It tells the truth of what really happens on the streets and in our schools today, but it shows how you can overcome it with Jesus. L.G. Wise has an awesome way of using rap music to reach the people in our world. If you are like me, you like rap music but not all the cussing. It is awesome that there are Christian people who will make music in the way that it will reach the world. If you like rap music, this is where it's at for real. Peace out!
Well worth the price.......2003-01-29

Customer Reviews:
Quite impressive...........2006-01-12
I first saw these guys at a Jeff Buckley tribute show back a few years ago. To be quite honest these gusy are one of THE tightest bands I have ever heard or seen. They are almost more solid and tight live than they are on their album. One thing you can tell is that they are having fun. Most rock bands are often too serious which hinders their creative ability. These guys just play whatever they feel like playing and add elements into their music that is reminicent of garage bands, but they pull if off with tons of talent and class. Highly recommended album.
One of the sweetest bands today.......2004-07-04
I recently drove 3 hours to see these guys in concert and most people question why... It was definately worth the total six hours of driving time (to get there and Back) Cuz these guys rock like crazy. I absolutly love they're unique sounds and passion for music. This CD is worth buying, you couldn't be supporting nicer guys. The guys in the band where very friendly and made me proud to say that i am a fan. When you listen to their music you know that they are full of talent and passion. For everyone who is questioning whether they should purchase the CD i would say go for it you wont be dissapointed.
Great band.......2004-05-08
I just saw House of Heroes live for the first time this week. They were great. I was so impressed by them that I went to the ATM, got some cash, and bought their CD. You'll love it if you're into emo. I think their sound is kinda progressive emo....if you catch my drift. A breathe of fresh air.
i love HoH.......2003-06-12
House of Heroes is truly amazing. I've known the drummer, Colin, like my whole life and he is SO talented. No Tagbacks, their former band, is awesome too. I always listen to "Sara" on 10 Months (NoTagbacks) when I have a bad day and to me its just awesome that they have come so far since graduating... Everyone should go buy both cds, bc they kick.
Not bad, nice new start.......2003-05-23
The band once known as 'No Tagbacks' is now the House of Heroes. They kinda sound similar to their old band, but they are different in alot of ways too. Buy it if you got extra cash, but I reccomend No Tagbacks ~ Ten Months.

Customer Reviews:
JYB be doing it...........2002-02-07
JYB has been one of the best bands in the D.C. Metro Area. Not just because they cranke, but they show love to all the crews and bands. JYB put's it down every nite when they play at any venues in DC or MD. This CD is a must have for anybody that loves GO-GO. The cd crankes from start to finish. People have been sleeping one the JYB but as a fan since i can remember they will have alot in store in the next few years... JYB the best band in D.C.
Friday Nights at the Taj Mahal.......2001-06-27
JYB are the ruffest, tuffest GoGO band from the Southeast section of the Nation's Cap and they go hard on this one. This is almost like a history lesson for those who never seen JYB or those who never ruffed it off. It starts with the old days of them hittin' that city funk on homemade drums all the way to the late 80's "Sardines" days and winds up at the dynamic Taj Mahal nightclub. I used to see them there every Friday night back in 96 and 97 and it was the most dangerous, funky, freaky and enjoyable party in the country. For those who are'nt from DC, GoGo may not be your thing but it is infectious, so check this out as an hardcore intro and any thing else you can find from Junkyard, Backyard, Rare Essence or Chuck Brown.
Hottest Go-Go Album since Backyards Frist ablum.......1999-12-07
I That this album is on point I have always love Junk and They are back with some new songs for the clubs and radio stations here in DC. I just cant wait to here more from the Jy-MOB They are holding it down to be fresh on the seen. My Joint is the new Hee Haw"Wink aka WinkDog of the BarryFarmes Crew is on Congo's holding it down and "Kadee aka Bigkentland of 75th'ave is on drums is breaking a sweat back there!
