I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!

5 out of 5 stars Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03

This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?

4 out of 5 stars Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11

Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.

Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).

Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".

It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.

But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.

4 out of 5 stars Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22

It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!

4 out of 5 stars Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31

Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.

However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.

However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.

Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

in the Editorial review it said that the songs You Always Sing the Same and What It Is (a.k.a Nina's Song) are unavalible on any of their albums in any form. Wrong. the chili Peppers debut album The Red Hot Chili Peppers has You Always Sing the Same as the 10th track and on the 2003 Remastered version of the album, it ft. What It Is as a bonus track. get it right amazon. although i dont own this album(i do however, own The Red Hot Chili Peppers, What Hits?! Stadium Arcadium and jus ordered One Hot Minute) any rhcp fan could figure this one out. u can do better amazon. get it right

2 out of 5 stars Some interesting work, but ultimately superflous........2005-09-27

A disjoint collection of demos, remixes, and live tracks, most of which surfaced as b-sides or ended up as bonus tracks to the recent remasters of the early Red Hot Chili Peppers catalog, "Out in L.A." is of limited value. I'll approach each of the three portions of the recording on its own.

The remixes I have little interest in, but this is pretty much a consistent thing with me, I'm generally not big on remixes. Two of themixes (the extended dance mix of "Hollywood (Africa)" and the Ben Grosse remix of "Behind the Sun") make minimal adjustments to the piece, whereas "Higher Ground" receives a near rewrite in the 12" vocal mix (Flea's prominent slap bassline is totally removed) and the Pink Mustang mix of "If You Want Me To Stay" turns the piece into a hip hop beat and sound effects. None of these really contribute much to the band's catalog.

The three live tracks fare a little better-- I've never cared for this recording of "Castles Made of Sand" (which also ended up on the "Mother's Milk" remaster)-- Kiedis always sounds a bit slurred and goofed on it, but the live recording of "Special Secret Song Inside" (sometimes referred to as "Party on Your P***y") is spectacular, full of energy, and "F.U." (a setting of rather odd lyrics to Thelonious Monk's standard, "Bemsha Swing") is unique and goofy, and certainly worth a listen. Neither of these two are available anywhere else.

The remainder of the album is given over to twelve demo recordings from 1982 from before the Peppers' debut album, recorded by the original band (Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea, Jack Irons). Seven of these tracks ended up on the "Red Hot Chili Peppers" and "Freaky Styley" reissues, limiting the value of this set further, but certainly the material put together is rather intriguin.

The majority of this material feels more in line with hardcore punk than it does with what the Chili Peppers would become known for-- pieces like "Police Helicopter" and the twelve second "You Always Sing the Same" would not have been out of place on a Dead Kennedys album. A good chunk of the other stuff is bizarrely experimental, from the detailed arrangement of "Blues for Meister", featuring intertwining guitar lines and a trumpet solo from Flea, the call-and-response vocal chant "Flea Fly".

Overall, much of this material is intriguing, but getting the remasters gets you over half of the essential material on here. The rest all but the most hardcore collector could probably live without.

4 out of 5 stars Its Good Buy It.......2004-01-19

The only reason I wouldn't give this cd 5 stars is sound quality. The EMI people have made this cd nearly obsolete because they spread all of its tracks across the reissues. For the die hard Chili Peppers fan a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Out In L.A........2002-09-01

This album was very difficult to find, but well worth the effort and money. While I don't particularly enjoy the remixes, and Behind The Sun isn't noticably different than the original from Mother's Milk (I think), the other songs and demos are very interesting. This CD is probably not for the mainstream listener because of the demo quality and funny, but cheap songs Stranded, Deck The Halls, and Flea Fly. "What It Is" is simply Flea playing and Anthony rapping lyrics combined from several of the demo songs, and it's also my favorite track on the album. "F.U." is rather funny and simple, and it's interesting to hear the demo tracks and how they sounded before they were put on album.

5 out of 5 stars I'm glad I finally found this!.......2001-12-09

I looked for this CD forever, some of the best recordings of the peppers songs. Essential if you're a big fan (which I am) I finally found it at a CD warehouse, still my greatest moment. I listen to it constantly. Not a good CD for beginners, but for the die-hard fan, a must have!!

If you can imagine Avril Lavigne fronting Mötley Crüe, you have a sense of where Damone is heading--and for listeners who favor melodic, high-revving power-pop, this is a fun, rocking journey worth taking. A youthful quartet out of Boston fronted by its lone female member, 20-year-old singer/guitarist Noelle, Damone burns through the dozen tracks on Out Here All Night (the group's second recording; its first with Mike Woods as guitarist and chief songwriter) at a manic pace. The band's compact songs (all but one clock in under four minutes) bristle with pounding, noisy energy, yet the melodies shine through the wall-of-racket production with a delectable, beguiling charm. Influences are far-ranging: AC/DC, the Go-Go's, the Ramones, the Runaways, Andrew W.K., Poison--even some soaring guitar salvos that bring to mind Queen's Brian May and Boston's Tom Scholz. (Sample, for instance, "Out of My Way.") The tone is forceful, but the mood is party-minded, not menacing. And while you'll find no revelations in the songs' lyrics, Noelle demonstrates a terrific vocal range that allows her to coo as effectively as she hollers (e.g., "You're the One"). Catchy stuff. --Terry Wood

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Teenage kicks.......2006-11-18

Damone seem to have happened upon the magic formula for making great uplifting rock and roll. Hard to believe they lost their main songwriter after the first album, you certainly can't tell. Some great riffs to be had too, and how often do you get to say that these days? I don't agree that the singer is an Avril Lavigne clone. Make your own mind up, but try not to tap your foot or bang your head to "Out here all night", surely the best rock song of the last few years. There is a real gang feel to this CD also, but in a good way. As in a group of people keen to ram home the same message. If only "hair metal" in the 80's was this good! I agree there is an 80's feel however, but it's partly due to the song quality and the lack of inclusion of current trends. By not trying to be cool, they seem to have come out the other side to be cool anyways. Damone makes me wish I was a teenager again, and that's gotta be the very essence of great rock and roll.

    4 out of 5 stars Hard rock/power pop amalgam.......2006-11-06

If they gave platinum albums for consistency then Damone would definitely score one. Track after track here just attacks the listener with head bobbing, toe tapping hummability. This is the sort of album you'll put in your stereo and just forget to take back out for a couple of weeks.

Where the real talent lies here is to keep things upbeat without falling into a parody of themselves. And the slightly more mature lyrics than you first expect factor contributes to the plus side of this release, cases in point being the title track and tune #3 - What We Came Here For.

In terms of specifics this, like my title says, is a combination of power pop and generic hard rock. While a few of the tracks here are a touch twee - reminding the listener of every formulaic teen movie soundtrack - the overall feel of the album is assisted by the fact this is an actual band. It's not a matter of the smooth vocals of Miss Leblanc being backed by faceless session musos while the record company markets her as a 'rock chick'. The writing credits are shared equally and not only that - there is a genuine crunch factor to the riffs on some songs such as the excellently catchy t itle track and #6 - Get Up and Go.

A summery album for sure, big hooks and simple chorus', this is the sound of a band who will surely fin and audience for their good time rock if there is any justice. And whne was the last time you heard a band of this ilk cover a tune like Iron Maidens Wasted Years? Acoustically. And it works a treat with the vocals intertwining with the guitar to produce an entirely viable and yet fiercely alternative version of this killer Maiden tune.

It's not like me to wax lyrical about a release of this genre but this is well worth your dollar for a solid good time. Heck, worth the price of admission for highlights such as Now is the Time, Out Here All Night, What We Came Here For and the Wasted Years cover.

5 out of 5 stars Better Together: This album and an amplifier that goes to 11.......2006-11-02

It's been 20 years since I've wanted to listen to an entire album over and over again for weeks on end. 10,000 tunes on my iPod and I keep coming back to it. This great rock and roll - tight instrumentals, awesome vocals, full sound, & tons of energy. I rate every tune 5 stars. Alas, the volume on an iPod goes up only so high. This CD needs to be played full blast on a good stereo with big speakers. A fine way to go deaf.

    5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2006-08-21

This has to be my newest favorite band! What a great cd! I good hard rocking band with a great chick lead singer!

4 out of 5 stars I had happiness and now I'm just about to watch it burn.......2006-07-20

First off, Damone is nothing original. Noel, such as the description says, sounds as close as you can to Avril Lavigne, and the band sounds like every other 80s metal band. If that sounds the least bit intriguing, then Damone just might be the one band this summer to tickle your fancy.

Depending upon how you look at this album, you can either say it's just a great rock CD with driving beats and pretty good vocals, or you can look at it as a band that can't find their own sound so they're ripping off other people's style. The latter is pretty harsh I know, but in most every song you can find a song from the 80s 'hair metal' days that matches up very closely, be it music-wise or vocal-wise. However, don't let that scare you off, Damone could very well end up being one of the quintessential summer bands of this year.

So thanks to Amazon you now know that Noel has a striking vocal resemblence to Avril Lavigne. Avril is one of my guiltiest pleasures so I can live with that fact, and actually enjoy it. And yes, the band resembles the Crue, which is fine as well. One of the more unexcusable aspects of Damone is the songwriting. Quite frankly, it's rather lousy. A moody 13 year old could come up with better lyrics, so, bad and good, give and take.

Having covered the bad aspects of Damone I will say that I truly enjoy Out Here All Night. I don't agree with one of the reviewers who said that there's no tracks you need to skip over, because there is one or two, but with memorable tracks such as What We Came Here For and Outta My Way, you can excuse a couple minor slip-ups. Damone does 'heavy' quite well, as the afforementioned tracks are, but they also do melodic extremely well too. Take the beginning of Stabbed In The Heart, or the beautiful When You Live, which I suppose could be categorized as a power ballad. All in all, it's quite obvious after listening to Out Here All Night in its entirety that Damone is just having fun, and come on, that fun is just contagious.

My favorite songs are What We Came Here For, Stabbed In The Heart, Get Up And Go, Outta My Way, and When You Live. I'd say that Damone has some of the better melodic moments of recent memory, not to mention that they're much heavier than a lot of your radio bands right now. So basically if you've been yearning for a band that properly beckons back to the hair metal days, then don't pass up Damone's Out Here All Night.

Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessors more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase the singer's true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley

    5 out of 5 stars simply amazing..........2007-02-05

This was my first Josh Groban album and definitely not my last. I've never been fond of opera for the simple reason that I disliked not knowing the words. Clearly that is not really the problem because as far as I'm concerned Josh can sing to me any language he wants. He has a rich smooth sound that reaches deep inside. I initially purchased this CD for "You Raise Me Up," and discovered a wealth of inspiring music. In mi mancherai (il postino), the duet with Joshua Bell is heart rendingly beautiful. My favorite is "When You Say You Love Me." It's romantic and touching. Throughout, Josh demonstrates a remarkable capacity for variation in his taste in music and his skill in presenting it. This extended version included a DVD that clued me into his latest project AWAKE, which I'm glad I purchased as soon as it became available. I hope to see much more by Josh soon.

    5 out of 5 stars Golden Voice!.......2007-01-09

This album has inspired me to begin learning Italian. I learned the words to "Oceano" by heart almost immediately. Not a single song on this album do I not like. Josh is an incredible singer--one of the best voices I have heard in a long time. This is actually the second time I have purchased this album, because I wanted to get the accompanying "Making Of..." DVD.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful music.......2006-06-13

This is the first album I bought from this artist and I loved it so much I bought all of them and then flew to Las Vegas to see the first concert I have ever been to--that sounds silly since I am over 60 and really think the music is wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Closer by Josh Groban.......2005-09-08

I am a big fan of Josh Groban so this CD is one of my favorites. His song, "You Raise Me Up" was recently sung at a dear friend's funeral, and there was not a dry eye in the church. Josh really delivers the message of each of his songs in such a professional and musically perfected manner. Keep on recording, Josh, because we all love you!

    5 out of 5 stars Josh Groban....extended edition.......2005-05-11

With the additional tracks Mi Morena and She's Out of My Life, Josh shows even more versatility to his second studio album, Closer.
Never ceasing to be amazing, Josh fills every note with a musicality and passion that many young pop stars seem to be incapable of commandeering.
Josh's musicality clearly shines through as he shows his ability to not only sing like an angel but also compose lyrics, orchestrate arrangements, and accompany himself on the piano.
A must for fans of his first album and his unique style.

New Orleans drummer Stanton Moore can be found providing the backbeat for the groovy Galactic or the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars. While much has been made of Moore's ability to lay down the funk, All Kooked Out! also touches New Orleans second-line marches and a bit of postbop. Moore is mostly joined by guitarist Charlie Hunter and saxophonist Skerik (Tuatara, Critters Buggin') for a groovy studio session that leaves plenty of room for each to shine. Hunter and his eight-string guitar in particular step to the forefront--playing heads and laying a nice melodic veneer over the syncopated rhythms. When it's time to tear the roof off, Moore brings in extra New Orleans-style horns, giving some songs a good-time Dirty Dozen Brass Band feel. Nicely paced, varied, and played, All Kooked Out! is a fine debut by Moore, a gifted musician with a flair for strong, syncopated beats. --Tad Hendrickson

      Album Description

New Orleans funk with serious jazz chops and a superbad attitude! Galactic drummer Stanton Moore cuts loose on his first solo album with special guests Charlie Hunter, Skerik, Ben Ellman and others.

      Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Super tight instrumental jazz-funk album.......2007-04-18

Already a fan of Galactic, I decided to check out the solo work of Stanton Moore, the band's deservedly-respected drummer, who is a big part of their funky sound. After listening numerous times, I've found Stanton's debut to be less spacey and rock-influenced than Galactic's music, with more of a jazzy edge in harmony and in song style as well, and more traditional jazz combo instrumentation. What isn't different is Moore's uncanny drumming abilities--his fluid ability to almost speak, or at least use his percussion instruments in a lyrical, melodic way--while at the same time keeping locked in to a thumping, thick funk groove. I like this album better than Flyin' the Koop because it's more organic (it was recorded live and is mostly effects-free), and because I think it demonstrates some great improvisation and a fresh-feeling sound.

"Tchfunkta," the album's opener, is one of my faves, with a playful opening riff and some wicked sax playing. Skerik is a great collaborator with Moore--bringing lithe chops and a generally more jazzy sound than Ben Ellman of Galactic (who also guests on a few songs here), not to mention a great sense of humor--just listen to his sax/vocal solo on Monk's "Green Chimneys." Charlie Hunter brings his 8-string guitar on many of the album's cuts, which is both good and not so good. He's a great guitarist--it's so cool how his style puts bass and lead guitar in one, with an understated accompanying style, but the ability to take off on some inspired solos as well. However, his style and effect-laden sound is so distinctive that it kind of makes the songs sound more like Charlie Hunter songs, rather than Stanton Moore songs, whose name is on the album; a minor quibble. Elsewhere, NOLA guitarist Brian Seeger participates, adding a more traditional guitar sound, and even a somewhat of rock edge to "Stanton Hits the Bottle."

At its heart, though, this is an album about Moore, whose drumming never ceases to be restless, tight, and a fascinating listen. If you pay attention, you can really see just how much thought goes into his playing, and what a special musician he is. Sometimes, though, if you don't concentrate, it can sound a bit more like standard funky jazz that doesn't stand out too much.

Overall, I think the interplay between the album's musicians and Moore is more than worth the price of admission. Except for a few less amazing tracks, the songs are strong choices and the playing is loose but impeccable. Recommended to fans of funk and Galactic who aren't afraid of more of a jazz influence, and, conversely, to fans of jazz who dig a funky groove.

4 out of 5 stars Great first record.......2006-12-10

Stanton Moore pulled together regular pals Charlie Hunter and Skerik for most of the songs on All Kooked Out. Some songs have additional horn players, and two have neither Charlie Hunter nor Skerik. This is a fairly consistantly funky jaunt through the Stanton Moore/Skerik/Robert Walter/Charlie Hunter style. "Green Chimneys" is a slight disappointment, and the last three songs seem stuck on the end. Highlights includes the opener, "Kooks on Parade", "Blues For Ben" (with mile-wide swinging horns), "Nalgas" (which is one way of saying rear end in Spanish), and "Stanton Hits The Bottle" (silly but fun). If you like anything in the funk/jazzy/jam band minigenre, you'll like this CD.

4 out of 5 stars An implaccably tight jazz-funk unit .......2006-04-29

If you're looking to hear a slick, sophisticated, funky drummer, well, you're there! Under the mastery of Stanton Moore's drumsticks, the group is an implaccably tight unit pushing forward all the time. With Charlie Hunter (guitar), Sherik and Brent Rose (saxophones), this is a delightful swinging stylish jazz-funk record.
It's funny, but throughout the record it feels like these musicians are all the time just about to fly away on a funky musical orgy. They never really do fly, but they're certainly almost there! All the time. I'm sure they would fly if they really meant to...

5 out of 5 stars Poetry in motion.......2006-04-18

I agree with everything said so far. This CD has been in constant weekly rotation for the past four years. These guys really have it together on this one. To be able to make those perfect combinations that produce magic on impact is a wonderful thing. These songs move forward as a whole. Every player shares the spotlight and syncs into the song to make it a living thing. If any of that made sense to you you'll love this album.

I've been a Charlie Hunter fan for quite awhile now and I've since become quite a fan of Skerik's wacked out horn.

Green Chimney's is my personal favorite. It's a great take on a Monk classic. A chill still goes up my spine when Skerik hits some of the notes after the intro.

5 out of 5 stars Moore and Skerik, what else is there to say?.......2005-05-25

Stanton Moore, regular drummer for "Galactic", and "Garage a Trois" put this little triumph together live in New Orleans in 1998; along with Saxophonic master Skerik, and 8 string, funk guitar, trail blazer Charlie Hunter. "All Kooked out" is a joy ride through those dimensions of fanatical, categorization known to individual hipsters as funk, New Orleans, Seattle, or Acid Jazz. For me, this album is the staple sound of the type of groove in contemporary jazz that I like to sink my teeth into. Hip hop fused with Latin drum beats, tenor and baritone sax odysseys, coupled with soprano solos, trumpet, trombone, and even a tuba makes this album kick up dust on its own. It's the Filet Mignon of what you can expect to hear in clubs along the West Coast on down to the Gulf. There's even a funked out rendition of Thelonius Monk's "Green Chimneys".

I don't often give out five stars, but this album succeeds where other's don't. In the year that I have owned "All Kooked Out", I still listen to it with as much enjoyment and anticipation as a new C.D. simply because it has not lost it's creative edge, and is no where close to dying either.

Regretfully, I'll have to forewarn you that his follow up album "Flying the Koop" is more on the experimental side and less on the knock you up'side the head feel. If you are not familiar with this genre of Jazz, and have not heard Skerik tear it up yet then "All Kooked Out" is definitely your ticket.

i really like this band... the music on this cd is great. there are a few songs that could have been better, but its a good mix of music.

4 out of 5 stars Theyre better live.......2004-12-28

With the release of all the "radio friendly" "pop punk" crap, this band continues to stay underground. The best tracks by TB on this album to me is Russian Roulette, and Take the reins. And the best TB song ever I think is, Irish Boys. This cd is good, but its too bright, and peppy foy my grunge loving palate. I saw them live in September at Fitzgerald's and they were great. Their singer is so beautiful, she looks a tiny bit like Brody Dalle, and has a killer voice... But this album is alright.

3 out of 5 stars Soild music, a little monotonous.......2004-11-12

Don't get me wrong, these guys are great musicians and their music is tight and solid, and somewhat original. I do listen to the album periodically, however, as an overall album I find that the collection can get a bit fatiguing. The band needs to mix up tempo, key and and sound density a little bit, IMO. "Drone" is an adjective that comes to mind although some people don't mind that. I prefer to put selected songs on mix CDs where they can really punch up the mix.

5 out of 5 stars way better than i expected.......2004-10-08

I just happened to stumble across this band one day, and now i am completely in love with their music. I read about them in Alternative Press Magazine and heard they sounded similar to AFI, but with a more poppy sound. When i heard "Pop" that turned me off, but i decided to check it out anyway.
I was amazingly impressed by the outcome. I don't normally listen to punk music. I'm more of a fan of hardcore and metal, but this band is definitely worth listening to. Agent M's vocals were thorougly impressing and the guitar work was rather nice. The lyrics were fun and the music-extremely upbeat. They reminded of AFI's older stuff, and sounded somewhat like the Distillers, except more clean sounding vocals, and catchier sounding choruses. If you like fast, punky sounding music, you should buy this album. After all this is a REAL punk band, but they don't sound too much different from you average pop-punk band. However, they are way more original.

      5 out of 5 stars Holy Hell........2004-08-29

      I love Tsunami Bomb.
I just saw them live recently. If you want to get the full bomb experience, catch them whenever they're in your town. But before you do that, buy the CD. They're an awesome, awesome band. Agent M's voice is great, and the music is awesome and...whoa. Amazing live show. Whoa. I mean, WHOA. Buy this CD. Buy Invasion from Within. Buy tickets to their next show. If you don't your life is meaningless.

      5 out of 5 stars The beginning.......2007-05-23

Before the full length LP, this ep was released a year before. Not a lot of people are up on it. It s definitely a classic that emoboides hip hop from beginning to end. Dope samples, scratching, mixing by pete rock. The lyrical department is well covered by CL. Complete your collection of pete rock and cl and pick up this classic EP.

5 out of 5 stars "There is no other...Mecca and the Soul Brother".......2006-03-27

Plainly stated, "All Souled Out" is one of the more important EPs of early nineties hip hop. This was Pete and CL's coming out party, and although it is more obscure than their classic albums, "Mecca and the Soul Brother" and "The Main Ingredient", it contains music easily on par to those two albums. All six tracks contain the immortal production and slick lyricism that made them the best team in hip hop. Pete's talents are evident even on this early recording, with his signature horn loops, hollow drums, and intros and outros set. CL floats over the beats, always making it sound easier than it is, with his conscious yet laid back sound. Fans of old school and jazz rap should know that "All Souled Out" is a must to their collection.

"The Good Life" opens the EP, and it might be the best track of the bunch. CL's slick abilities are at their best here, speaking of the pros and cons of wealthiness over Pete's horn and bass laden track. On "Mecca and the Soul Brother", CL takes the time to introduce the duo and rap about pretty much whatever else he wants to, over a spinning and beautiful horn line. "Go With the Flow" is another favorite of mine. The beat is very unique, Pete abandons his beloved horns for a toned down flute and bass line. "The Creator" is Pete Rock's solo track, and he shines. The quick bass and horns are a perfect complement to his baritone, laid back voice, and he does a great job on the mic. "All Souled Out" is a great lyrical and musical track, and Group Home's remix to the opening track is another cool take on it, I like it almost as much as the first.

This album is a must have for anyone who enjoyed their other two. Pete and CL were arguably the best team in hip hop, and their short time together produced only limited recordings. This EP will not disappoint anyone.

5 out of 5 stars PR and CL Primer.......2004-12-27

As fas as introductions go, this EP by Pete Rock and CL Smooth truly showcases the talents each has to bring to the table. From the undeniable dope production on the positive "Good Life" and "Mecca and the Soul Brother", to the boastful "The Creator". Perhaps a tad short, All Souled Out is nevertheless a must for any fan of "da Two" and definitely whets the appetite for their other albums.

      5 out of 5 stars A Classic EP.......2004-09-29

This EP came out in 1991 before Pete Rock & CL Smooth's critically acclaimed album Mecca & the Soul Brother. What can I say about this disc? Every track on here is a banger. My favorite being relaxed "Mecca & the Soul Brother". On this EP Pete Rock introduced the world to his soulful and jazzy style of production. The way this man flipped samples was amazing. Fans also got their first taste of the mellow flows of Pete's partner CL Smooth on this EP. They make the perfect duo. No one can rhyme over a Pete Rock beat like CL Smooth. If you're a fan of Pete & CL or generally a fan of true hip-hop then I recommend you buy this if you don't already have it.

      Customer Reviews:

      5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing.......2006-06-13

I bought this on a whim from another website, and it has become one of my favorite cds, despite its frustratingly short play time. Mr. Murdoch's full length album is out now, and I will be buying it no questions asked, simply based on these four songs. This album has a very simple sound; it is clean and has just the right amount of polish. Orange sky is the highlight of the album, but I never find myself skipping the preceding songs to reach it.

      4 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful.......2006-06-08

I'm going to only give this EP 4 stars because there's only 4 songs on it, but what an incredible debut. I was in Tower Records yesterday and saw that he had just released his "debut album," my only two problems being "why did it take so long?" and "how come there are 11 songs on it, 3 of which are on his 4 song EP?" What makes this EP wonderful is the combination of beautiful melodies and wonderful lyrics. 'Orange Sky' is the song everyone either knows or has heard on the radion before, but the other three songs are just as strong. It's the kind of music you can listen to on its own, absorbing the lyrics and the music or the type of music you can read a book too. People have compared it to Nick Drake, which is a good comparison, but he may be closer to Badly Drawn Boy or a male version of Fisher. This guy is going to be huge if he puts out music on a more consistent basis. Buy this and enjoy.

      4 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it.......2006-04-27

This album has only four songs, but I think it is rather well done. The songs are simple, but very well-composed and heartfelt.

Orange Sky is by far the best song out of the four.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Debut EP.......2005-08-06

Alexi creates something special with his debut EP. He has a wonderful ability to create size with his music. If you are a fan of lyrically driven music that touches the soul you will love this EP.

By the way BEN HARPER RULES!!!

2 out of 5 stars One song wonder..........2005-05-30

Orange Sky is a good song, but the rest of the album is forgettable. Other reviewers have commented about the similarity to Nick Drake -- not so, say I. Murdoch's lyrics lack the craft of Drake, and some of the lines where he has forced the lyric into a rhyme made me cringe. Very disappointing.
