    Product Description

"Pianotarium", is a solo piano tribute to... you guessed it, Metallica. I know what some of you are thinking, "Metallica?!?!, that's a Heavy Metal band, you can't do that on piano!" Yes they are, and yet their music contains great melodies, harmony, counterpoint, and is actually heavily influenced by classical music! "Pianotarium" reveals the genius of Metallica's work in an entirely new light; through the pure touch of a solo grand piano! FROM THE LINER NOTES: "'Pianotarium' is the most difficult album I've ever done, and something I ve wanted to do for over a decade. The challenges I faced, and the emotions I experienced as I tackled this music almost overwhelmed me. I quickly found my limits as a musician. I struggled to hear every note and nuance of Metallica s recordings, grappled with the seemingly infinite possibilities of how to best bring these masterpieces to life on the piano, and then faced the daunting task of actually learning to play the songs with only two hands and one piano. Each arrangement became an emotional roller coaster ride through agonizing battles with the demons of self doubt, fear, procrastination, and frustration; to the exhilaration of complete victory, and back again. Many people have asked me how a mellow pianist like myself can also be such a big fan of heavy metal music. In doing this album I discovered the answer to that question. Heavy Metal is fighting music, and in a culture that seems to value comfort and convenience above all else, it s metal that helps motivate me to fight those inner battles that have resulted in some of the most rewarding accomplishments in my life. This album is my tribute and thanks to one of the greatest metal bands, who s efforts have inspired and motivated so many, and shaped an entire genre." -Scott D. Davis

5 out of 5 stars Serious bluegrass covers.......2007-07-11

I had to write this in response to a comment below comparing this release unfavorably to Hayseed Dixie, a group that also does bluegrass covers. The two groups are worlds apart, and should never be compared. Hayseed Dixie is a farce group - you can tell that it's all comedy to them, down to their outrageously fake over-the-top country hick accents. Iron Horse, on the other hand, is trying to take music and translate it to a new style, thus bringing something extra and different out of it... and they bring it out in spades.

My friends and I found this at a Best Buy one evening, and bought it as a joke thinking that it was going to be like Hayseed Dixie but hopefully with better singing. We laughed like crazy at first, but gradually came around and started saying "wow, that's actually a great way to re-work the song."

Now the album will not be for everyone. Metal fans are one of those groups that will by and large stick to their genre only and not give others a chance. If you're like me, though, and you not only love cover songs but also ones that try to take the material to a new place, give this CD a try.

The only weak spot, as has been noted in other reviews, is Fuel. The rest of the CD ranges from solid (Four Horsemen) to spectacular (Hero of the Day).

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as the AC/DC Bluegrass tribute.......2007-04-21

They SING in this one..... (horribly, I must say) ......

I LOVED the AC/DC Bluegrass Tribute so much I came back for the Metallica version.....I listed to the first minute of each song...then skipped to the next...and haven't played it again since....I personally thought it was awful...but looks like others liked it based on the below reviews....so if you can handle the bad singing the whole way through each song....you might like it!

5 out of 5 stars The are all fun .......2007-02-04

The song ONE busted my gut! Death and banjo, never!! haha

    Okay so its like this,

I have been listening to rock and roll for 25 years

I work in an office, do the "cube life", sitting at a PC for most of the day, working on my own, popping out to get liquids or drain liquids, chat some, that's the life. Now this ipod deal comes along a few years ago. Only, if your going to listen to music all day, you just cant listen to real pure rock and roll all day, you just cant. I don't care if your homeless sitting in a park all day with an ipod on, you just cant listen to real hard rock and roll for hours and hours at time all day everyday.

Classical puts me to sleep. I can handle some of it in the morning, ease into the day, but not allot of it. Pop I don't care for much. Country is singing about my dog had an affair on my wife doesn't cut it either, what did I just say? Anyway, and Rap is out. Opera, No, what ARE they saying?!. So what to do?

Well thanks to my Dad, who used to watch Hee Haw all the time when I was growing up, and man did I hate it that show! Even today I seen some of it not long ago, its corny country stuff, but when Roy Clark comes on and solos for a song, then man always caught my attention. He was flat out good. But still I would "never" and have never owned a bluegrass cd. Get real!

But then, a friend, listening to me talk of my search to get some kind of music going for the day, loaned me a String Cheese Incident CD, an On The Road 3 cd set, and said just try it for awhile. Let it grow on you. What do you have to lose? Well yep I ended up submitting to it, and then really liking it. Before long I was walking around the office humming along, co workers going what you got playing man?? So having remembered seeing these Pickin' on cd's before, I said well why not try it, so I started off with one, right away started laughing and laughing good not at it. Then I find these Bluegrass tributes. Now mind you no way would this happen up till a few years ago. Getting older? I don't know, many people are born and raised on this stuff. Its all in how you approach it. And I will tell ya what, that was a couple years ago and 6 pickin' on cd's later, a few bluegrass tributes, I am so much more relaxed at work now. What I didn't notice before was music and singing along with it ALL day works on you more than you realize. I actually like the pickin' On ones more, as I listen to music all day, but these are fun also! Just having some "cruising tunes" playing with no singing really is relaxing. I don't have this playing all day, but its taking up a couple hours a day. Some more String Cheese cd's. And I will sooner or later just end up getting everyone of these pickin' on cd's. You see its not all about "oh this one doesn't jam enough" or the other one is better than this one. Nah. If you like Rock, and don't want to listen to it all day, then get used to these trust me, I did and its worth it. I still laugh at dif times playing them. And now some coworkers and friends have them loaded up also. I still have all the "real" bands loaded into my ipod, never giving up on Classic Rock and Roll, ever!

Lastly, I am not someone who sells these CD's. I actually am very picky if you read my reviews, and look at my Amazon name! and flunk so much stuff that's out there. Believe me this has caught me off guard. Just thought I would let anyone know that is searching for a new way listen to the day to try it out a bit. Give it time. Don't just listen partly or once then blow it all off, scoff and go Sacrilege! For I did before, but now a convert, and after a couple years of it, I get it, and will be enjoying these for years to come, just like the real rock and roll at times. Good luck.

    5 out of 5 stars A real genre-bender/uniter.......2006-10-18

This album is just plain amazing. I have played this for many of my friends, from all different walks of life, and everyone just loves this album. Be it my indie rock friends, my techno friends, my metal friends, and everyone in between.

This group has a tribute album to Modest Mouse, too. I've only heard 3 songs off of it, but it is amazing.

5 out of 5 stars Best thing I ever bought in my life........2006-05-25

Every Metallica fan won't appreciate it, but if you're a fan of Metallica and bluegrass/country music doesn't piss you off then this is for you. It's the acoustic versions of all your favorites but not just old songs redone, no. The Iron Horse makes each song their own while still capturing the metal in songs like "Ride the Lightening" and "Sad But True" that made them awesome enough for people like you.

I recommend getting both albums if you're planning on getting the first because the second one is even BETTER. They took the few lyrics in To Live Is To Die and made it a three minute song that I can sing a long to in my car forever. And ever.

These guys are talented and committed to not destroying Metallicas name completely. Almost every song is up-beat and toe tapping but you can still hear Hetfields angst in everyones folk guitars.

Oh and theres a mandolin. Come on.

    This is supply-side economics runamok.

The only downside here is that CMH didn't use a larger sample size to test the theory. They should have pressed 6.5 billion of these, one for every man, woman, and child on the planet.

Although the sales would have still been ZERO, they would have given much entertainment to all the poor folks in Africa. True, you can't eat a CD, but they can be used for things like, killing ants (via sun reflection), battlefield signaling (via sun reflection), palm tanning (again, via sun reflection), etc. Of course one could actually play them in a CD player, but why chance burning up the motors in a perfectly good CD player?

All kidding aside, the musicians are decent, and the singing isn't bad, but when is CMH going to wake up and start producing BLUEGRASS AGAIN? I mean, PLEEEEEASE---METALLICA? M-E-T-A-L-L-I-C-A ?!

    4 out of 5 stars A Mighty Fine Pickin' 'n A-Singin'!.......2006-11-01

"Fade to Bluegrass Volume II: The Bluegrass Tribute to Metallica" is, by any account, a very well-done experiment into the musical reassignment craze going around these days. Taking the hard, energetic, fast metal of one of the most well-known musical acts ever, and translating them to a slower, pluckier form of music known as Bluegrass.

Where "Fade to Bluegrass Volume II" succeeds is in breathing some new life into some slightly-aged tracks from 10+ years ago in some cases, as well as giving a new face to more recent tracks that might've been passed over because of the album they were on. But, where "Fade to Bluegrass Volume II" fails is in its grace; the original "Fade to Bluegrass" album is an all-time favorite of mine, and the tracks on it were not only well-done, but changed to bring familiarity and freshness to them, whereas a few of the tracks on Volume II feel... alien. A good example being the track "To Live is to Die". Originally a sweeping, epic, sorrow-filled song in rememberance of fallen bassist Cliff Burton, the version found on this Bluegrass translation is a short, under-four-minute li'l ditty with the once-spoken verse now being sung the whole way through. And while this does what the album sets out to do - takes these songs and give a new spin on them - it ends up hurting more than helping, as the original and translated versions bear little semblance to each other, and therefore hurting the overall feel of the product.

Most of this album is very, very good. But, there's just something lacking in this Volume that was present in the first. It's very difficult to put it in words, it's something aural, perhaps the feel that perhaps a couple of these tracks were rushed through without putting enough consideration into how to turn them from pounding metal to plucking bluegrass, and leaving the end result with a bit more to be desired.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent combination of the two genres.......2006-10-31

If you like either Bluegrass or Metallica, you will love this cd. It is just as good, if not better than the first volume. All the songs are good, but my favorite has to be the rendition of "Welcome Home (Sanitarium).

2 out of 5 stars How can something this good be so bad?.......2005-12-11

I saw the line up on this and just about shat myself, I mean seriously, Chuck Billy jamming on Seek and Destroy with Jake E Lee, this has to be good.

    Or so one would think.

This album takes top musicians and great songs and makes them sound average. It is impressive in its ability to do so. One reason is the anemic production. Instead of drum kit destruction courtesy of Lombardo we get a kit that sounds like an average death metal band given too much money to spend on misguided studio production. Clear, but clicky and lacking any punch whatsoever. All style of the original drummers is drowned by the flattening production.

And so it is with the guitars as well. A collection of guitarists ranging from solid to solid gold (John Christ's shredding is baddass) they all have the same overly produced, undeniably cheap sounding tone. Riffs that should swagger, crush, inspire bedroom moshing and so forth are reduced to technical exercises.

Finally, there really is a feeling that none of these dudes were in the room at the same time - the lack of vibe and cohesion and passion on these songs is incredible.

Save your money. Listen to the originals and imagine how good this record COULD have been...

1 out of 5 stars Way to make them sound even worse..........2005-08-10

Metallica definitely has gone down hill since the marginally good "black" album. This album makes the songs that actually are good sound like crap. Contrary to what others have said, Dave Lombardo does not out drum Lars, and none of these musicians hold a candle to the original sound of the songs. Don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing Tribute Album!.......2003-03-31

I have no idea how this album is recieving any hate, but I am going to give my opinion regardless. This is the only tribute album that has this many well-known artists from some of the best hard rock and heavy metal bands covering Metallica songs. So many of these artists stand out like Dave Lombardo of Slayer doing the drums on "Battery"...he gives the song a totally new sound and I really think he outshines what Lars did on the original. Some other artists that I felt stood out were Whitfield Crane from Ugly Kid Joe doing vocals on "Sanitarium", Anthrax/S.O.D. guitarest Scott Ian gives his own flavor of rhythem on "Sanitarium" and on "Whiplash" while his bandmate Billy Milano from S.O.D. does the vocals; and former Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna is another worthy mention on "Sad But True". Another thing about the album which people may find very cool is that Rob Trujillo (THE NEW METALLICA BASSIST) does bass duties on the tracks "Battery" and "Enter Sandman" giving us Metallica fans an idea of what the future has to hold for this newly added Metallica bassist. The only drawbacks of this CD were that there could have been a few more tracks, and I also was pretty dissapointed being a Fear Factory fan of how Burton Bell did the vocals on "Enter Sandman", he sounded fine but it just really didn't fit the music. Over all though I'd say this album is with out a doubt worth any real Metallica fan's money. Not only do you get the artists I mentioned doing these classic tracks but some other standout artists are Eric Singer (one time drummer of Kiss), John Christ (of Danzig, who I must say plays an incredible guitar solo on "Enter Sandman"), Vernon Reid (from Living Colour) and Lemmy (bassist of Motorhead) amongst many others. I'd say almost every artist on this album makes their part very original and each song has a much different spin on what Metallica originally made.

    4 out of 5 stars Tributes can't get a break.......2003-02-20

This is the first, and really the only Tribute to Metallica done not only by established musical powerhouses, but that is in the same Genre as the band being given tribute (as opposed to the Death Metal Overload, the Techo "Blackest" Albums, and the Um, Punk um, Punk Tribute. Metallic Assault is a great album that any Metallica fan should at least give a listen to.

This may not be Kirk, James, Jason and Lars, but some of Metallica's best music has now has equally great performances by those who have toured with and grown to admire Metallica. Seek and Destroy and Battery are clearly equivilent or superior on MA than they were in their original rendition.

My only complaints are the choice for vocalists on For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the Thing That Should not Be; and the use of Lemmy Kilmister on Nothing Else Matters (couldn't they have adapted Disposable Heroes or Eye of the Beholder for to Lemmy's bass, like Metallica did to Motorhead's Overkill?)

1 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS DOG!!!!!.......2002-04-16

As a die hard fan of old Metallica (pre load, reload and S&M) I figured I should buy this CD. I know and like almost every guest performer on this cd. With so many good players, one would think this would be a great cd. One would be wrong! It is hard to fathom how such good songs could be so butchered by such great players. My only guess would be the producers. Bruce Bouilette and Bob Kulick have somehow completely botched the entire project by putting performers together who have completely clashing styles.
I have heard bar bands do better covers of Metallica than any of the songs on this entire cd. If I could've given a negative rating for this P.O.S., I would have.
DON'T BUY IT! Also steer clear of ALL other tribute cd's that these two have compiled. They have done a Van Halen tribute that rivals this one in poor quality!

      3 out of 5 stars DeathMetal-lica.......2003-02-20

This sounds nothing like Metallica. If you are a metallica purest, I warn you now: DO NOT TOUCH THIS ALBUM WITH A TEN FOOT POLE!! Metallica purests will go out of their skulls listening to Nothing Else Matters and The God that Failed. Others would be bothered by the inclusion of King Nothing, a "Load" track, in the tribute. Infact, the only thing most purests might accept is the Coffin Texts version of Call of the Ktulu, which is the Metallica version with some sound effects.

This is more like "What if? Metallica were a 90s death Metal Band?" Death Metal fans who may have gotten their heavey metal start with Metallica would appreciate this album the most. It's the old favorites with a much more rapid fire pace, and distorted lyrics. It's also a great jumping off point for someone searching for more death-bands to listen to.

4 out of 5 stars total overload, vol 1 &2 tribute to metallica.......2002-05-20

this is very good tribute to metallica, apart from that its death metal and im in to thrash metal. but overall very good.

      5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2002-04-04

This tribute album is [great]. All the songs are very good indeed. Even it suffered form bad production, i think Fist's Damage Inc. was one of the best cause its so awesome. And to the first reviewer who said they wouldve liked to see "king nothing" covered, well dude, it is...so i dont know if your reviewing without listening...but yea,

      3 out of 5 stars Okay.......2002-02-08

This album is okay.........The music is pretty awesome and almost perfect but the vocals arent any good. They have distorted their voice which doesnt sound as good.

1 out of 5 stars Say your prayers little one... yeah, pray your ears don't start bleeding........2006-01-03

After receiving and listing to the "Say your prayers little one: The String Quartet Tribute to Metallica" I found I was rather disappointed in the "tribute" album.

Enter Sandman: The opening is weak... and as forceful as Metallica opens it, it seems like a simple lullaby when played by the Quartet. The notes are wrong, not as punctuated at they could be with clean cut offs and too much dragging out of the strings with the vibrato effect. I expected more thunderous bass lines and didn't appreciate the creative changes made to the song. The Freddy Kruger-like voice reciting the prayer is too over the top, and the changing of that prayer took away some of the poetic beauty of the original song.

Ride the Lightening: The wolf howl heard at the beginning of the song should have never happened. Tragically played... again, choosing to alter the notes rather than stick to the original composure of the song leaves one thinking "What in the hell was that?" Less dragging out of notes on this one... and it's less painful that hearing Enter Sandman. Some of the Quartet's changes from the original version are quite suiting to this song.

One: Not too bad on the ears... but the tempo was just a tad too fast for my liking. This song, when played on classical instruments should not be sped up. To me, the sound of One being played at a slower speed is much more useful, and enables the pain and heartfelt-ness of the original song shine through. It has it's high points, but they are few and far between.

Master of Puppets: The opening is rather nice... until they really get going. I'm noticing a pattern by this point of these guys changing the notes in the songs for reason I can't understand. Cheesy sound effects through out drag this down terribly and make this great song sound rather bad. Don't hate it completely, but I'm not loving it either.

Unforgiven: This is the only song I really like up to this point. The opening is lovely, with a single bell tolling as a lone violin starts up... the entire opening is lovely actually. I was impressed, and the changing of the notes played is suitable for the violin in this number. Great and impressive to the end, this movement, moved me.

Wherever I May Roam: After all that moving from Unforgiven I had picked up some momentum and I came to a dead halt when this one came on. The drum like noise opening this made me cringe, and the constant throbbing of the bass confused my now bleeding ears. They're fast when they should be slow, and slow when they should be fast. Again, more creative note changing in this one.

Through the Never: More stupid sound effects... maybe it's a whistle? Or a garbage truck backing up? Not sure, but that needs to go. Maybe it's just me, but it didn't sound too much like Through the Never to me. This should never have happened. At. All. They shouldn't have even thought about it. Whoever said "Hey, let's cover this one!" Should be slapped stupider than he/she already is.

And Justice for All: Eh.... I don't even listen to it. I tolerate Metallica's version because it's them. But I won't sit through this one. You'll have to find out for yourself.

Hero of the Day: A diamond in the rough. Not too much note changing... and no lame ass sound effects. Pretty moving and surprising, though the ending leaves so much to be desired it's retarded.

Fade to Black: SLOW THE F*CK DOWN! This song is not meant to be played at the speed of light. Again, another good song that would usually sound beautiful on classical instruments is mangled in the need to make it faster. However, it's a nice cover minus the playing at the speed of death metal at times. Sheesh.

Nothing Else Matters: Okay, these guys have serious issues with tempo. Perhaps they don't know what it is? Go back and read what I said about Fade to Black and you have this song.

All and all, I would pass this album by if I actually had to buy it. But if you're like me, and must have any and everything Metallica, then by all means, buy it. I'd advise you didn't get too excited about it though.

If you want good covers of this in the classical type genre, I'd recommend you get Apocalyptica's Inquisition Symphony. Though it only has the Metallica covers for For Whom the Bell Tolls, One, Fade to Black, and Nothing Else Matters, it has a few original works, as well as covers of Sepultura, Faith No More, and Pantera. Much easier on the ears and mind... as well as doing justice to Metallica's greatness.

      1 out of 5 stars pointless.......2004-07-18

Why would anyone buy this when you could pick up an Apocalyptica album instead? Rather than this half-assed cash-in attempt with no imagination or passion behind it, check out Apocalyptica's "Plays Metallica By Four Cellos" or "Inquisition Symphony". They do much better string versions of Metallica songs.

4 out of 5 stars The best Metallica covers.......2005-12-26

This is by now the best Metallica Tribute album I've ever heard. Those bands (mostly form Europe) did a great job covering Metallica, but some are horrible.

      1. Seek & Destroy.
German Power Metal band, Primal Fear, starts with one of Metallica's most catchy songs. Excellent opening, one of my favourites from this album, except for the guitar solos.

      2. Fight Fire With Fire.
Awesome song, the "flute" beginning is extremely good and afterwards, the fury is released by an excellent Black/Thrash/Death Metal melody. You can feel the the greatness of this song. Guitars, drums, bass and vocals are awesome. My favourite of this album.

      3. Whiplash.
A great Thrash cover from a great Thrash band: Destruction. This guys rock, the song is excellent. Another of my favourites.

      4. Phantom Lord.
The only american band covers this song, it's great, since it's Anthrax who is playing. Another of the favourites.

      5. Fade to Black.
This song is a classic nowadays, Sonata Arctica does a great job with this song, even though it's slow.

      6. Master of Puppets.
What happened? Everything was ok, perfect guitars, excellent bass and drums... but what the hell, Death Metal is not good for this song. It's a classic, those Death Metal vocals spoil the whole song.

      7. My Friend of Misery.
I never thought of Dark Tranquility playing Metallica, but they do. One of Metallica's darkest song, pefectly covered by this Death Metal band. Another favourite.

      8. One.
This cannont be, it doen't hear like Metallica. The song is far more slow than the original. The beginning is decent, since it is the ballad part but the fastest part, where all the speed is released, sucks. It's still slow and they cut it a lot. There is no other cover for this song like Apocalyptica's, that one rules.

      9. Eye of the Beholder.
In Flames does a nice job with this song. No Death Metal vocals! Even though they play Death Metal, the vocals are "clean"... reminds me Opeth.

      10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium).
Thunderstone's turn. Not bad at all, enjoyable although there better covers for this song.

      11. The Memory Remains.
Skip this song, this doesn't deserve to be in this album. First of all... it's too techno, although the disc have been presenting Metallica's classics, the original is far from this cover. Horrible, too much face paint and none quality.

      12. Wherever I May Roam.
A powerful song, even though it is a little bit slow. But where's the intro? It goes directly to the "presentation of the song"; anyway, good song.

      13. Damage Inc.
An excellent song for closing this album. Tankard is a great Thrash Metal band and the song is way to good. It presents a cool ending with a BURP, definetely Tankard.

This is it, now go and listen the album. Those Blackest tributes are garbage, better go for this one or Metallic Attack.

5 out of 5 stars Great C.D. For The Everyday Metallica Fan.......2004-12-16

This compilation of songs is phenominal. Truly some of the best Metallica songs ever. On Such tracks as Seek & Destroy, Phantom Lord, Fade To Black, Master Of Puppets, One, and many more. The bands on album are also great. Bands like Anthrax, Destruction, Crematory, Thunderstone, In Flames, are extraordinary. They remind me of a young Metallica.

4 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!, but WHY "The Memory Remains"???????.......2003-12-28

I usually don't buy tribute albums, most of em suck 90 percent of the time, but I had a gift certificate to Borders and I saw this while browsing around- I really like all of the bands on here so I decided to why not give it a try- WOW! This is one of the best tribute albums EVER! Great pre-Black Album classics like "Seek & Destroy", "Damage Inc", and of course "One" and "Master of Puppets" done amazingly by In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemey, and other great bands from the Nuclear Blast label.

The only reason I had to give it 4 stars was because of "The Memory Remains"- wtf???? why waste a track with THAT awful song-where's "Creeping Death" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls"???? also there IS one black album song.. "Wherever I May Roam",, but that's ok.. that's one of the more tolerable black album songs I guess...

Pick this up if you are a metalhead, THIS is the REAL Metallica tribute, unlike that God-forsaken "MTV Icon"....

I have also heard that this label also has an Iron Maiden tribute album called "Tribute to the Beast"- if they can do a Metallica tribute this good,, my mouth is watering thinking about what the Maiden tribute will sound like!!!! must find that... must find that....

5 out of 5 stars A tribute album that gets my salute.......2003-12-09

For those of you that are weary about buying this CD because you are thinking this is going to be another garbage tribute album by bar bands, don't be because these are top-notch metal bands with the talent to cover these classic Metallica tunes yet putting there own twist on the songs. Though you may not recognize some of the groups, don't worry, that's because they are European metal masters (except for one group). They are very popular over there but have yet to make it to the states. Now I will go over every song. For some reason, the version I have only had 13 tracks and some are different fromt he tracklisting amazon provides. I assume Nuclear Blast either changed the tracklisting before release.

      01. PRIMAL FEAR - SEEK & DESTROY
This German metal band gives a pretty standard rendition of the Kill 'Em All classic. Nothing really different but they do a good job covering it.

      02. THERION - FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE
A very unique cover from the Swedish death metal band. The track starts off with keyboards, but then turns into an all out metal assault. The vocalist sings normally for most of the song, but when it comes to the chours "fight fire with fire", its high pitched death metal vocals baby! One of the standout tracks!

      03. DESTRUCTION - WHIPLASH
This German thrash band gives my favorite cover on the CD. This crazy band actually speeds up the song and makes it like a Nuclear Explosion. I love when they come to the lyric "We're Metallica" and they say "We're Not Metallica". It made me chuckle.

      04. ANTHRAX - PHANTOM LORD
The only American band on this CD, but what's also strange is that these guys were among the strong metal forces right alongside Metallica inthe 80's. Would Metallica do a song for an Anthrax tribute? I think not. Anthrax rules! And so does this cover!

      05. SONATA ARCTICA - FADE TO BLACK
A softer version of the classic Metallica ballad from this Finnish band with some really awsome singing vocals. Good job!

      06. BURDEN OF GRIEF - MASTER OF PUPPETS
Master of Puppets done death metal style! Totally kick @ss! This German band does a great job covering the ENTIRE song!

      07. DARK TRANQUILITY - MY FRIEND OF MISERY
My second favorite cover after Destructions rendition of Whiplash. This Swedish band makes there staple on this dark classid with some awsome death metal vocals.

      08. CREMATORY - ONE
An odd cover by the German gothic masters. Portrays odd normal singing vocals mixed with odd Death Metal vocals.

      09. IN FLAMES - EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
This Eurpean melodic Death Metal band is actually becoming popular in the U.S., but In Flames fans will be surprised that there is no Death Metal vocals on this track. This was recorded with In Flames original singer before they went Death Metal. It still is a very good cover.

      10. THUNDERSTONE - WELCOME HOME (SANITARIUM)
I'm not real big ont his cover. It's alright, but nothing spactacular. There are many better covers before this.

      11. THE KOVENANT - THE MEMORY REMAINS
This track doesn't fit along with the others on this disc not just because its a newer Metallica song, but also that its more techno. This was not a good cover and by far is the weakest track on this disc. Apparently I'm just not a fan of this band from Norway that loves to use facepaint

      12. SINNNER - WHEREVER I MAY ROAM
A good cover from the german metal band that contains members of Saxon. Nothing really different from the Metallica original, but great none-the-less

      13. TANKARD - DAMAGE INC.
This German band that loves alcohol more than music does a credable job covering this Master of Puppets signature song. I really liked how they ended the song with a "burp".

Metallica fans will finally be happy with a tribute disk. No more "Blackest Album" garbage. Nuclear Assault delivers the real thing here. Don't hesitate to buy this Disc!

4 out of 5 stars Really Good for a Tribute Album.......2003-11-22

This album is really good, and has some Nuclear Blast heavyweights on here(Anthrax, Therion, Sonata Arctica, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity) The only griefs I had with this tribute was the order, as in the energy on this album starts really ferocious, and then bottoms out kind of pre-maturely. Aside from the order, the other grief was a couple of songs that really didn't fit. Die Krupp's didn't belong with the rest of the album, and would have been better staying in the "Blackest Album", an industrial metallica tribute album. I like Apocalyptica, but it just didn't belong with the rest of the album, as well.

I usually hate Tribute cds, and Coversongs.. but this one I actually did Enjoy and Im a HUGE metallica fan.. the vocals arent the best.. but at least its not Grave Digger's extremely harsh vocals that appear on Excalibur.. but I love the Electronica in the backgrounds Esp in Enter Sandman.

In case you havent realized I am a techno freak as well.. My friends call me a very Ecletic fellow, because of my very diverse tastes.

I have to congratulate Die Krupps on a job well done for something I wouldnt even expect someone to do.. a Techno/Electronica remix of Metal songs.

2 out of 5 stars Its pretty hard to totally screw up Metallica tunes...............2002-03-17

.....but these guys somehow did. They somehow turned "One", which could easily be called the best song ever, into a disco dance song. Whats next, NSYNC or Destiny's Child doing a cover of Megadeth's "Peace Sells, but Who's Buying"?

I usually enjoy tribute albums, especially Metallica ones, that are totally different than the originals. But turning Metallica to a dance groove is just wrong. Go pick up "A Punk Tribute to Metallica." It does the band justice. Listen to the Surf Punk Version of Seek and Destroy on that disc; thats how you change a song up, and still make it good.

The only reason this gets 2 stars is that it is a very interesting listen, borrow it from someone if you can, just for weird listen.

4 out of 5 stars A great CD for angering a Metallica fan........2001-10-23

Judging from the reviews here and the time I played this for my sister (who is a huge Metallica fan), I'd say that no red-blooded Metallica fan would stand by this EP. However, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich did endorse it (according to the liner notes), but I think they have a much better sense of humor about what other bands do to their music than their fans do. Personally, I enjoyed it. But what I found to be the strangest thing about it is that Die Krupps (and that's pronounced "dee" krupps because it's German) produced this before they began incorporating metal guitars into their music, so that nowadays they sound much more like Metallica than they did in the early '90s. In fact, they're featured on the industrial tribute to Metallica, "Covered In Black", doing "Battery", although it is a newer, more metal-sounding version than the one on this CD.

1 out of 5 stars Stay away from this one!.......2001-06-22

Get this album if: 1) you like techno 2) you don't like Metallica in the first place 3) you've never heard any of Die Krupps' albums

I love Metallica and I love Die Krupps, but for some reason combining them was a BAD idea. Picture springy, robotic versions of 'tallica's songs barely recognizable from the originals, and Die Krupps totally selling out in some wierd way, and you get the idea. No matter how much you like Metallica, there's nothing much here worth saving.

2 out of 5 stars not metallica's best sound, but not their worst either.......2000-11-06

It sounds worse than anything before the black album and better than anything after. It's better than listening to Hetfield's vocals now. A very cheesey cover album. It sounds like Die Krupps is trying to sound cool, but it's beyond their ability to. The album sounds like some kid i don't know, that would ask me over to his house to check out his, new cool midi keyboard that he can hook up to his computer. That's why it didn't get five stars.
