Mechanix... "and beyond the infinite".......2007-04-09
Greetings...
I agree... this recording was very good... and YES, I own HEADSTONE on vinyl (IMPORT, if you can believe it), and CD, and the live version of DOING IT ALL FOR YOU was brilliant, if not stellar... LET IT RAIN was also a standout track... from the BOLTON days (COME AWAY, MELINDA still elicits emotions) to MICHAEL S. to CHAPMAN to ATOMIC TOMMY to VINNIE M. (and no less than Jason Bonham on drums!!!!!), UFO never fails to impress me... I hope that the faithful who are still interested in good hard rock will explore UFO's catalogue... STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT, LIGHTS OUT, FORCE IT, WILD WILLING AND THE INNOCENT, WALK ON WATER, COVENANT, FLYING, UFO 1... to use a current cliche (reluctantly)... "IT'S ALL GOOD" (no, EXPONENTIALLY STELLAR... no, GALACTIC... well, maybe you could work a PARALLEL UNIVERSE or two in, as well!!!!!!!!!!)... don't take my word for it... listen to the CDs...
Be well... be alert... be vigilant... behave...

Commercial Decline.......2007-03-27
The steady decline of UFO over the Chapman era starts to become evident here with this fairly lightweight offering. Whilst "No Place to Run" kept the rock juggernaut going, TWTWATI slowed it down a little then breakdown came with "Mechanix". This one kicks off in terrific form with "The Writer" and fills the listener with optimism. The lack of Schenker's guitars always seemed to me to put more emphasis and pressure on the song writing and lyrical skills of Mogg. Typically he rises to the top with this great track despite the synthesizers and sax. The unusual cover of the classic "Somethin' Else" and "We belong to the Night" also give us something to rock along to in keeping with UFO tradition. Whilst neat and professional the rest of album is much more commercial than any of the previous albums. It's generally OK but not as good or as listenable to as all the American competition in a similar vein.
"Back Into My Life" and "Let it Rain" are nice catchy tunes but there isn't much to get excited about outside of the above. "Terri" and "Heel of a Stranger" are pretty awful. Generally there is too much Neil Carter and his sax and not enough umf!!
It was about this time when I decided to give UFO a wide birth. Mechanix is OK but unlike anything previous and this direction was not for me. Perhaps aimed more at the main stream American market, Mechanix is a reasonable album and worth getting for the first two tracks.
NO SCHENKER, NO PROBLEM!.......2006-03-16
My "old buddies" might say that when Michael Schenker left UFO that was the end. Not So! You still have Mogg, Way, Parker and the great chemistry developed over many years of rocking together. Granted, Paul Chapman has a different style than the great Schenker (few could match the precise shredding power of the wonderkid). Mechanix is still a good Rock-N-Roll CD. I might go as far to say the sweetest ballad (slower tune) ever recorded by UFO was "Back Into My Life" #3 on the CD. If you'r looking for old school UFO you won't find it here. What you will find is a familiar sound and all the ingredients that made UFO great. Check it out, that axeman Chapman ain't no slouch! ALWAYS NEVER THE SAME!
Stands test of time.......2005-12-21
Except for "Something Else" which is a rather odd song, this album still sounds great over 20 years later.
UFO still making high quality rock.......2004-12-17
There is no denying UFO was not the hard rocking force it was just a few years before this release, but Mechanix is still a terrific album. No doubt Mechanix is more commercial and on the lighter side of rock, so what! it still rocks and it's still TOP QUALITY music! The song "Doing It All For You" alone is worth the price of admission (has anyone heard the amazing live version on the hard-to-find Headstone CD?)
Let me put this straight: UFO ruled the world when Schenker was in, but UFO also produced some of the best rock albums when Paul Chapman was the axeman. Different styles... who cares?! UFO still made some of the best rock music back in 1982. Schenker was NOT UFO, just another very talented member, the man is one of the world's best guitarists but his compositions as a solo artist pale in comparison to the ones he made with UFO... Mechanix with Paul Chapman is much better than other releases from "classic bands" from that era, including MSG's solo albums, period. An absolute must, but only for real objective ears.

Buy this CD for the 2nd disk...amazing 70+min blurred mix!.......2004-10-13
DJ Spooky, like DJ Shadow and DJ Krush, are at the top of their game and will be viewed in generations to come as the pinnacle of trip hop/acid jazz.
The primary reason to purchase this double-CD by Spooky is to hear the 70+min blurred mix on CD #2. I was blown away how seemless the transitions are from one track to the next. Put this disk in your player on repeat...

Two cd's , two different listening expierences........2004-07-19
Another difficult project is again handled masterfully by DJ Spooky. The first cd is a collection of remixes from different volumes of the Blue Series. Since the original songs were difficult as originals remixing them would be anyones nightmare.
DJ Spooky demonstrates that he has no equal at deciphering these abstract pieces and then adding his own flavor. The result is a dish for those who don't mind the well prepared exotic dish, prepared by the master himself, DJ Spooky.

UFO wild, willing but not innocent of making great music!.......2006-08-22
UFO STILL MADE GREAT ALBUMS AFTER MS LEFT AND STILL ARE
TODAY! THAT PROVES THAT THEY WERE AND ARE MORE THAN THE
AVERAGE ROCK BAND. WWI IS A CLASSIC SONG AND ALBUM AND
MECHANIX HAS GREAT SONGS TOO AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED.
BUY THESE ALBUMS NOW. HIGHLY RECOMMENED. ALSO BUY THE NEW
UFO ALBUM "YOU ARE HERE". KILLER.
brilliant albums yet some songs hacked off at end.......2002-01-11
If it wasn't for the brilliant music making on these UFO recordings I would have returned my copy almost immediately. The songs are so good that I could not bear to part with it. Like the other dude said, some of the songs, albeit clear and crisp, are hacked off at the end, as if the songs were downloaded and then cut off. Funny from a record producing company. Anyway, music rocks even for today's standards if not even better. Bye for now. Pete
Hacked Off.......2001-06-05
A very sad story. Great music, but an awful record company. The first time I saw two of my favorite UFO records in one CD, I was delirious. It couldn't be better, so I bought it. The dream ended as soon as the CD began to play. Many tracks of "The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent" were hacked off at the end. It was not editing; the CD was defective. More important: it was not only that CD. As some reviewers have stated, there is a big problem with this edition. I have bought three copies (different stores and times) and been forced to return them. How come ... the company (Beat Goes On Records) keeps producing it? Beware, buyers.
Two great albums on one disk.UFO rules........2001-03-27
man i'm in heaven.two great disks in one package.i consider this to be 2 of the best albums they ever made.i think the paul chapman era was the best time for this band on a musical level,i never get tired of this stuff.the rockers rock like never before(intelligent level-wise),a near 30 year old like myself can still not be embarrased about mid-period UFO.the ballads don't put me to sleep like they did the schekner era.do yourself a favor and pick up all the chapman-era disks, you won't be sorry.the wild willing and innocent is worth it alone for "it's killing me".every song rules on this!.mechanix has one weak song called "let it rain",but it's really not all that bad on the other hand, mabey just a bit too poppy for my taste.again the rest rocks rightiously.a damn good beer swilling band,if there ever was.this band is tragically underrated, with a world gone mad i can take the great comfort of listening to the grand old hard rock of ufo, fortunenatily all sounds can be discovered by others at their own pace.
Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware).......2000-09-26
While I happen to like both of these records (Wild and Willing more than Mechanix), the people who put these out did a monumental hack job. The quality of the digital transfer itself it excellent but the the songs (on both discs) that were sequenced to run together on the original LP's have been chopped here, indicatating that whomever did the transfer was unaware of the actual contents and sequencing of the original LP's.
