Customer Reviews:
Jim Gill A great CD.......2007-07-24
My kids love the Silly Dance Contest and the next song where they growl. It gives me some excercise while they are danceing all around. A good family CD. I highly recommend buying it.
Sneezing Fun.......2007-05-20
My family was fortunate to meet Jim Gill just last week when he gave a concert for my son's school program. My 15 month old daughter was bouncing around to all the songs trying to copy the motions the older children were doing. After seeing this, we knew we had to have one of the CDs for out own collection. We picked this one because of the Sneezing Song. My kids always find fake sneezing to be fun and silly. Each of these songs gets the kids moving and Jim Gill is a wonderful educator who connects learning and literacy with each of his songs.
can't stop singing these.......2007-03-30
This is the best CD I have heard in a long time. My daycare kids ages 1-4 know all the words to all the songs.
The Amazing Jim Gill.......2007-03-09
My 2 1/2 year-old daughter Shayna came home one day from her daycare singing "Alabama, Mississippi" (one of the songs on this cd) and I was hooked and needed to buy it for myself. After all, anything that holds my child's interest for more than a few fleeting seconds is great. This CD works and is one of her favorites!
Simply put, Jim Gill makes songs fun for toddlers and the kids in her daycare really love his upbeat, entertaining, fast-paced type of music.
Great Kid's Singer and Great Album.......2007-02-17
We just got this cd and my 18 month old loves it. If you ever get a chance - you should see him perform. Jim Gill gets a big thumbs up from us.

Customer Reviews:
One of their BEST, regardless of what others say!.......2007-01-17
Having been a Y&T fan since 1981, like many of you, I saw the progression from the hard rock metal sound of the first 4 A&M releases to a more polished and commercial sound, as found on Contagious. Regardless of the stylistic change found on this cd, this is one seriously great disc! As good as the the first 4 Y&T releases are, I am glad they shifted gears a bit. Who wants a band to make the same album several times (not that ANY of their albums sound the same)? Not me!
There are some high class rock songs (Fight For Your Life, Armed & Dangerous, Eyes Of A Stranger....actually, I really like the entire cd, with the exception of 'The Kid Goes Crazy'). The production is really good, the band are tight, Dave's voice and guitar playing are in amazing form (check out the solos on 'Fight', 'A&D', 'Eyes' and the AMAZINGLY soulful instrumental 'I'll Cry'...it does not get much better than this!), Jimmy's drumming is great, the songs are excellent. What more can you ask for? Do yourself a favor and check this cd out.
Y&T rocks as always..........2006-10-04
OK, is this album as good as some of the band's earlier stuff? No, Black Tiger, Meanstreak and In Rock We Trust are my personal favorites, but this is simply not as bad as some make it out to be. Yes, this album has a more polished and radio friendly sound to it - but that was the point. Y&T had been around for years as the "great unknown band" when they moved to Geffen from A&M. Back at this time bands went to Geffen for two reasons, 1. They had talent and 2. They wanted to sell some records - no crime in that.
The songs themselves are solid with some genuinely good moments such as; Contagious, Armed And Dangerous, Rythm Or Not, Bodily Harm and Eyes Of A Stranger. Dave Meniketti, as always, plays some blistering guitar and I've always thought he was underrated as a vocalist.
For simple guitar driven rock, you can't beat Y&T. Whether you're new to Y&T, or a longtime fan, you should check this out.
Nothing past the title track.......2006-08-22
Look, I'm probably one of the bigger Y&T fans you'll meet. I have long asked for more of the band's A&M recordings to be re-released in the U.S., and have on many an occasion considered Y&T the single most underrated band in the history of metal. But bands put out good and bad albums, and "Contagious," which others have noted is Jimmy DeGrasso's first album and Joey Alves' last with the band, is not all that good.
"Contagious" starts well with the title track, but from then on, there's really not much. "The Kid Goes Crazy" is another of those comic tracks, like "Barroom Boogie" before it, but doesn't quite live up to the standard. The rest is filler, plain and simple, though Dave Meniketti shows how much soul a guitar can put out at the end with "I'll Cry For You."
Download the title song. Skip the rest.
The downward spiral continues..........2006-07-17
Contagious continued Y&T's slide into mediocrity. Despite boasting a glossier production more akin to the hair metal that was popular at the time as well as an image makeover, the great songs that comprised their earlier albums up through In Rock We Trust were no longer to be found. The title track is pretty decent, even if it does sound like a rewrite of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." The mid-tempo "Temptation" and the closing instrumental "I'll Cry for You" are both very good and feature great solos from vocalist/guitarist Dave Meniketti. "L.A. Rocks" is full of clichés but is also pretty catchy. The rest of the songs such as "Fight for Your Life", "Bodily Harm", and "Rhythm or Not" are just plain filler, although to be fair at least they're not corny like "Don't Tell Me What to Wear" from their previous album, Down for the Count. While that album gave the sense that the band didn't have enough time to write a good album, the songs on Contagious undoubtedly prove that Y&T's best days were long behind them. All told, while some `80s hair metal fans may enjoy Contagious, it is nowhere near their best work.
A GUILTY PLEASURE.......2005-11-24
ok, i am proud of the fact i love those early y&t albums. they stand over time as American Metal stapes from metals early years. Being someone who looking back has a disgust for all that hair metal stood for, Youd think id hate this album. Its probably the only album from the late 80's/early 90's Hair Drek that i actually admit to owning then and still owning. yes, its a guilty pleasure album. But if you are new to Y&T, LOOK NO FURTHER than 3 albums---> EARTHSHAKER,BLACK TIGER, MEANSTREAK. these 3 slabs of molten metal give Y&T the respect they deserve

Customer Reviews:
Another Incredible Perla Album.......2002-10-23
This is just another example of Perla Batalla's absolutely incredible voice, not to mention the outstanding music and lyrics. She and the very talented band bring an excitement to music that is truly rare, and the treat is to have it on a cd to enjoy whenever I want. I could tell you it is fantastic and special and beautiful and meaningful and that it is pure joy to listen to, but you really should find out for yourself.
These roots are made of gold.......2002-10-08
Perla Batalla takes the rich traditions of her Mexican roots and has spun pure gold on this album. While much of the material is original it is the pristine treatments of sweet standards that take this disc right to the top of musical achievements for this year. That this singer has not won a grammy or latin grammy is an indictment of the corrupt, teen pandering system that can overlook one of this planet's very best singers.
Let us begin with the voice: Perla Batalla's voice is the Chateau Lafite Rothchild wine, the Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, the Mercedes-Benz' Maybach automobile of vocal instruments. She can reach the back row of the balcony without raising her heart beat and she can bring real tears with ballads so sweet they make your heart ache. The purity and power of Perla's pipes is rare and wonderful to behold. Secondly, there is the choice of marvelous material which gives freedom to the perfect vocalist to cover the gamut of emotion. You can hear a fine voice on American Idol but you can only put love into lyrics like Perla by travelling a long musical journey filled with setbacks, surprises, good friends, family and a deep abiding love for singing.
"Cuando Sale La Luna" has an meringue in its romantic soul and "La Llorona" finally tells the Mexican folk tale of the sorrowful woman with style and compassion. "Mexico de mi Alma," is a powerful, contemporary anthem to the mother country and the silken "Cucurrucucu Paloma" has long been owned by Ms. Batalla. Yet, these gems are not the highest of the heights on the disc. Little "Mananitas," the simple birthday song is so beautiful as to take your breath away. Only such a lovely rendition could make me happy on yet one more of mine own. My own personal favorite "La Barca de Oro" is destined to strum many a heart string. This ballad, so tender, so loving is performed to utter perfection here. If you can listen to this exquisite performance without a lump in your throat you better check for a pulse. I have honestly set my CD player to program number eleven six times running just to luxuriate in the tones like a hot bath of emotion.
There is more, much more with a little chile on it at "Discoteca Batalla." "Reloj," Sentimientos" and "Cine de Llantos" all shine but the much played "Guantanamera" is made new and poignant in these trying times by this sparkling arrangement. Ms. Batalla says in the notes that this album is a labor of love, a love for her family, her Spanish language and music. She has done them all proud. What we have here is deeply satisfying, a work that should achieve deserved longevity among a great variety of listeners. It is a group of songs that should find listeners in cafe's in Silverlake, in apartment buildings in Pico Union, in grand hotels in Montecito, in kitchens in Ojai and patios in Oxnard. It should be heard in New York City, in New Orleans, in Mexico City, in Barcelona, and it will be heard in Glassell Park many, many times. The dedication to quality and obvious love and respect for the material shines through every song. Even though my Spanish is strictly drawn from growing up in Los Angeles I feel the emotion even though sometimes the words are unclear. It is a language I love, respect and recognize as the best set to music in the world. I liken my affection but poor understanding to some favorite lines in the film "Shawshank Redemption": "I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singin' about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I like to think they were singin' about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words and makes your heart ache because of it." Indeed, when Perla sings material as wonderful as this it is beyond the power of words. This album ranks with the great Los Lobos folklorico album "Del Este De Los Angeles," Juan Luis Guerra's "Bachata Rosa," and Vicente Fernandez' "La Muerte De Un Gallero" as my favorite Spanish language albums ever.

HEX HECTOR, JUNIOR VASQUEZ, JONATHAN PETERS, PLASMIC HONEY.....NEED WE SAY MORE?....WELL MAY BE A THUNDERPUSS MIX IS MISSING.
Hot + Fabulous = These Mixes.......2001-04-08
I started out writing this little description of each track and remix. But decided to scrap it when it all ended up sounding the same...all of these mixes are hot and fierce and should not be passed up. I love the Junior mixes (regardless of what anyone says, they are fab, ok?), and the mixes by Plasmic Honey (get me fan!), Hex (making it a sauna!), DJ Fuma, Jonathan Peters (Not boring - fun and animalistic!), and Jodi! It's a must have for dance music fans, fans of classic 80's hits, and of course, fans of the fierce Diva Shannon! Don't miss out! You'll be sorry you did!
PLASMIC HONEY REMIX IS DA BOMB.......2000-09-04
The best thing about this CD which features two remixed classics from days of yore is the Plasmic Honey remix of "Let The Music Play" - it's absolutely amazing, sounding a lot like Johnny Vicious' material. The other highlights of this E.P. are the excerpts from Shannon's LP "The Best Is Yet To Come" and the Hex Hector mix of "Give Me Tonight". However, it seems a lot of money has been squandered upon superfluous mixes that merely detract from the classic original. Junior Vasquez once again proves he's only in it for the money, turning out two bland and uninteresting mixes that show a distinct lack of both imagination and creativity. Similarly, the Jonathan Peters mix of "Give Me Tonight" is absolutely horrendous, the vocals totally out of key from the Vasquezesque backing track - it's a total mess. Such poor attempts at remixing remain overshadowed by the awesome effort demonstrated by Plasmic Honey, proving that they're a name to watch in the future!

Positively Uplifting.......2000-10-11
"Shine On" took me by complete surprise when I heard it in a club. Cindy Mizelle's voice is clear as a bell, and very powerful. The song's message is upbeat, and inspirational, and Tony Moran's production is the best it's been in a long time. There are a lot of dark dance songs out there right now, and that's what makes "Shine On" so special. It's an uplifting, gospel influenced dance thumper that will carry you away. The rise and fall builds are fabulous, and the underlying chords are slighty trancy, without losing the core club sound. Richie Santana's mixes are the real gems, although you can't go wrong with any of the remixes on this disc. Just breathtaking.

Album Description
Showcasing clever lyricism and engaging melodies, Good Morning Beautiful is a sure-fire indie pop winner. Good Morning Beautiful makes resourceful use of the talents of every one of its five singer-songwriters. Truly a collaborative band, each member has co-written and sing on at least one song on the self-produced Good Morning Beautiful. Irving's blending of wildly catchy pop harmonies and a solid rhythm section produce their special brand of pop magic. Even the most jaded and cynical pop scenesters will find themselves moving to the beat of these contagious tunes. Jumping smoothly from the animated L-O-V-E to the curiously affecting Did I Ever Tell You I'm in Love with Your Girlfriend to the melancholic beauty of Holiday, this record has it all. The effortless segue from the upbeat, energetic pop sound of A Very Frivolous Distribution of Sundries to the tenderly graceful Faster than Steam elegantly demonstrates Irving's range and creativity.
Customer Reviews:
Solid.......2004-04-18
I got into Irving after hearing "The Curious Thing About Leather" off their EP. I immediately bought that disc, and within a week of listening to it, I bought this CD. A lot of albums you have to listen to a few times to really get into, but this is like putting in a Beatles album - you know it's genius from the start. It only gets better as you begin to decipher what this band is 'really' trying to say. If you've got a girl/boyfriend, beware of #5 and embrace #6. They get the emotions flowin'. Oh,baby.
La La La's don't get better than this..........2003-12-02
In a genre overcrowded with retro reaching and one too many copies of "Pet Sounds," Southern California's Irving hits the nail on the head. The Andy Paley produced "L-O-V-E" is certainly a happy highlight, but its one of many. Considering that there are five singer songwriters on the LP, "Good Morning Beautiful" is amazingly cohesive. The band's website uses words like "shimmery loveliness" and "best f****ing band in the world"; and while the former is right on point, the latter isn't too far off. If you don't believe me, you should see the spectacular quintet rock a live show. If you are unfamiliar with the group, a live show is a great place to start, because after their set, you'll surely be marching to the merch table. But if you've already played this CD until it skips, you should check out "I Hope You're Feeling Better Now" or label mate's (eenie meenie records) From Bubblegum to Sky's "Me and Amy and the Two French Boys." Either way: happy or sad, pop or indie pop, rain or shine, Irving released an album that hovers above the pack and sky rockets right to your heart.
