Marley's best...........2007-07-27
This was my first Bob Marley record, and it's still my favorite. It still resounds years later not because of any nostalgic feelings I might have, but because its art and sincerity are still strong and still sing to me. I love every song here. There isn't one bad note in this entire album. Coming in from the Cold and Bad Card are the best off side one, and I do like the dance hit Could You Be Loved. The album is one of Bob's best, and it's a damn shame it was his final album, because I'm sure he had a lot more to offer this world. One of my favorite songs here is Redemption Song, the last song on the album, and the last studio cut Bob released. It's a folk song, with only Bob and his guitar, but that's what makes it so strong and moving. This is arguably Marley's greatest album, and one that will live forever....
Marley's swan song.......2007-06-12
This album intorduced the kids in my neighborhood to Bob Marley in 1980, and after his death a year later, the kids at my high school (Wando High in Mt. Pleasant SC) jumped on the Bob bandwagon much to the disgust of us who were already initiated.
Overall, this is a fine piece of work. Bob's usual positive thinking anthems are once again set to pulsating backing from the Wailers' band and wife Rita's I-Threes. "Real Situation," "Bad card" "Coming in from the Cold" in particular put out some messages that go down easy on the ears and dancing feet. "Could You be Loved" was a rare dancefloor hit of this era that really had something to say and "Redemption Song" needs no additional commentary. Just hear it, and it's enough.
The latter can be said for this CD as a whole.
Only a couple of well known songs .......2007-01-31
The beauty here is that we get a bunch of Marley songs that haven't been overplayed. 'Could You Be Loved' is the closest the cd comes to something that has been overplayed.
And that leaves us we Bob's brillance. The guy could write a song and a catchy one at that. If you've filled your collection with Exodus, Burnin', and Catch A Fire then this is a good next step.
Excellent sound also.
Who can't like Bob Marley!.......2006-06-21
All these songs are great, personally I think they should release Could You Be Loved, Coming In From The Cold, Redemption Songs, as singles again, so they can all get to number 1 like they deserve.
5 star songs:
Coming In The Cold
Bad Card
Work
Pimpers Paradise
Forever Loving Jah
?Buffalo Soldier? (Should of been on the album, stupid Chris Blackwell!)
4 star songs:

Bob Marleys 1980 recording seasons Uprising/Confrantation.......2006-04-19
Bob Marley & The Wailers Uprising album from 1980 was a massive hit in America and England with songs such as Could You Be Loved, Coming In From The Cold, Pimper's Paradise, Work and probably Bobs most famous song Redemption Songs.
Info on Uprising
In the summer of 1980 June 10, Uprising hit the shelves it was Bob Marleys second highest selling album, (Exodus was the biggest selling).

Written by Bob Marley.
The bonus tracks 11 & 12 are also a interesting listen.
Ive read from other reviews that Uprising and Confrantation should be formed together to make a Disk 1 and Disk 2 or just the best of on one album.(As they were made at the same time)
I personally think that is a brilliant idea,
as it could look like this or...
Disk 1
1. Coming In From The Cold
2. Real Situation
3. Bard Card
4. We And Dem
5. Work
6. Zion Train
7. Pimper's Paradise
8. Could You Be Loved
9. Forever Loving Jah
10. Redemption Song
Disk 2
1. Chant Down Babylon
2. Buffalo Soldier
3. Jump Nyabinghi
4. Mix Up, Mix Up
5. Give Thanks And Praises
6. Blackman Redemption
7. Trench Town
8. Stiff Necked Fools
9. I Know
10. Rastaman Live Up!
or like this....
1. Coming In From The Cold
2. Buffalo Soldier
3. Bad Card
4. Chant Down Babylon
5. Work
6. Jump Nyabinghi
7. Pimper's Paradise
8. Could You Be Loved
9. Forever Loving Jah
10. Stiff Necked Fools
11. Redemption Song
If the producers were to make a Uprising/Confrantation deluxe they could decide on the song positions.
Uprising can be sold in any music stores or online, make sure you get your hands on it.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM
AND
PRETTY IN PUNK
Illeagle CD.......2006-04-22
i have been a fall out boy fan since before this cd came out and i love the music on it. however when fall out boy put this record originally the record label (uprising records) screwed them out of their money and this re-release was not done with the permission of fall out boy and is just an attempt by uprising to make money after fall out boy's succes with from under the cork tree. the band never talks about this cd like it doesnt exist.
Awesome! .......2006-03-19
I agree with Dick. These are songs of when they just started out, and you can see how they have improved along the way of making these albums. You can really tell that they've worked hard. BUY THIS!
Awesome Music.......2006-02-21
I'm about to but this CD. I've been looking for it in stores all over the place and can't find it. I have downloaded most of these songs already, and they are all amazing. I'm a huge FOB fan, and these songs are great. However, if you want thier best, I suggest From Under The Cork Tree or Take This To Your Grave.

a unique moving hip hop album.......2007-06-14
if you're looking for a switch up from mainstream hiphop, then you probably tried out underground music or something more substantive; picking up the roots, kanye west, mos def, wyclef jean and etc.
Like a Thief in the Night is an entertaining and insightful album from start to finish. The title track is convincing enough to listen the whole cd throughout.
Amir's album succeeds where these artists occasionally fall back into regular rap routines with cursing, gun talk and women.
Because of Amir's open religious tone he is able to produce a full album with "struggle" related issues sans vulgarity both in language and subject. For this I feel he is superior to other rappers.
In addition the album is an enjoyable hearing for any listener of hip hop, the beats and raps flow, and on multiple hearings you begin to appreciate Amir's unique talent of making the subtleties of living life something worth listening to.
I would compare Amir's lyrical content to the College Dropout by Kanye West, because both artists focus on relationships between many types of people from a view other than at the end of a gun.
Great listen and convinces you to want to see him perform live. (hint hint youtube)
The roots of Hip-Hop.......2007-06-08
SubhanAllah, it takes me back to my roots. Hard hitting, east coast beats under fresh, pleasantly poetic lyrics. He transcends boundaries of race and religion and delivers exactly what the dying hip-hop community needs. It is rich with a tapestry of self-reflection, calls to action, lamenting the suffering of the down-trodden, and foretelling of a victory for the righteous. Absent is the typical lyrical bravado and self-aggrandizement of most rappers (even many Muslim rappers).
Make no mistake about it, he is Muslim and apparently a lover of Ahlul-bayt (peace be upon them), and it is not unusual for him to fall into the ecstasy of his own lyrics and start chanting la ilaha il-Allah (there is no god but Allah). In that way it has the symbolic texture of classical Islamic poetry as though it were the modern-day qasida or ghazal.
Still, his lyrics are also very political, very pro-black, and very anti-oppression. He is part of the new wave of hip-hop artists trying to reclaim the culture that was abducted and molested by the mainstream music industry. And with guest appearances by cultural pioneers such as the Last Poets and hip-hop reformist and fellow Muslim Mos Def, the message certainly hits home.
The only complaint I could really have about the CD is that it's not enough. I would like to sit and pick this brother's brain for hours, and unfortunately, I only get a little over 50 minutes. May Allah reward his efforts and purify the bounties that he receives through his jihad.
Hip-Hop Lives.......2007-05-19
When asked what became of the seeds of the revolution? You will think about Amir Sulaiman. His dedication to the truth and righteousness of life speaks to you loud and clear in this CD project "Like A Thief In The Night" So refreshing to know that the messengers' have not been completely drowned out by the noise of the paper chasers who sold hip-hop out. Every track on this CD says something to the conscious mind to the blind and the bewildered while maintaining its raw credibility that is really hip-hop. From the track "Spit - Let it be known" is your warning and the journey through the collab with Mos Def "When I Die" well set you back on course. And what a treat to hear Goapele singing the backdrop of "They Don't Know". Ya'll need to cop this joint and keep it in your collection next to KRS-One, Last Poets, Gil Scott Heron and the likes

A-MA-ZINE!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-13
Umm...holy shit. This band puts all other bands in this genre to shame. Sooo....The Faceless, As Blood Runs Black, All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence......... All great bands, but MBE is just rediculous.
Wow.........2007-02-25
Wow..thats all I have to say. I'm not huge into this genre, but this just blew me away. Becoming Misfortune is probably my favorite track, the guitars just change the tone of the song so well, and don't get me started on the drums. The double bass is insane. I had heard this bands first release was not so hot, but with the change of vocalist and guitarist that all changed. They didn't fall into the sophomore slump thankfully lol.
Go buy this, it will rip your face apart
Great!.......2007-02-08
My Bitter End's "The Renovation" is a very interesting and technical CD. The work that stands out the most is the guitars, which tend to be more technical than before, especially the intro lead in "The Renovation" and "To All Things Expendable". This band can easily be compared to the likes of bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Glass Casket, The Human Abstract, and so forth, as they are a band that may be considered metalcore/deathcore to some, but if the listener gives them a good listen, it shows that these bands do much to stand out. This CD is a slice of pure talent that deserves to be heard, and if you like a mixture of melody and technicality, "The Renovation" should be in your collection.

Incredible.......2004-01-15
Jibe can be described in just one word - incredible. Joe Grah (Jibe's vocalist) has an awesome voice. If you've heard him sing the verse "Just close your eyes and rewind" (from "Rewind") you would know what I mean. Their 2 hit singles, "Rewind" and "Yesterday's Gone" are alone enough of a reason to buy this album. However, it doesn't stop there. Not only that, but their lesser known songs such as "Uprising" and "In Between" are just as great.
What is probably most stunning about their album is that every song is different, which is a lot more than I can say for some other bands I know. This goes for both the music and the lyrics. The music is just different for every song - no two songs sound alike. As for their lyrics - I'm simply amazed. I'm one of those listeners who must have good lyrics in order to appreciate the music, and Jibe has far exceeded anything in my wildest dreams. "Rewind," "Yesterday's Gone," and "Uprising" are great. "Hypocrite" will probably remind you of someone you know (I know it does for me).
If this hasn't convinced you, Jibe has "Yesterday's Gone" on their website - ...just go to the mp3 section and listen to it for yourself before you decide. You won't be disappointed.

This band is the best i have heard in a long time. Why aren't they famous by now? What label are they on? Their sound is like no other, and their energy is unmatched! The lead singer is an icon. Lets get them no. 1 on Billboard where they belong!

best musician ever.......2006-05-28
I heard this album the other day for the first time. It almost physically knocked me back, it was so good. I can't believe ive never searched out his other albums and have been content with just a greatest hits. The song that goes "She likes to party, have a good time" Oh my god that song has the best groove EVER. I was so stunned by how good that song was. I can't even wait to buy the cd off amazon I have to go to best buy right NOW to buy it, im heading out the door and you all should do the same.
Bob Marley's Best Album.......2004-10-16
I think what's most amazing to me about this album is that no one knows about it and only argue that Exodus is his best album. I disagree. I almost never heard this album because alot of books i read about him had many quotes by people saying that Bob marley wasn't as good after Natty Dread. They couldn't be more wrong. His last album released before his death is also his best. Lyrically intelligent and musically overcoming, the the waves of the ocean, this is his most sirious album. IT IS NOT A SUMMER PARTY ALBUM! His other album's are good for that, but this one is not. THe album is also worth a listen over and over again, because after each listen something new is discovered. Be the one to share Bob marley around, and intrigue them with this Masterpiece
His final studio album.......2002-08-03
Don't waste your time on the later compilations of Bob Marley. The essential music is on the albums, and Uprising is one of the best of a great lot.
From "Coming in From the Cold" to "Redemption Song", Uprising is full of religious and political themes. There isn't a bad song on this album that flows with great music and lyrics. "Redemption Song" the last song on the disc, is a fitting one, Marley died within 18 months of making Uprising. Great music.
A cry for freedom from a musical genius.......2002-03-06
Bob Marley, a man of many words, those words were a cry for peace, understanding and unification, yet at the same time they acted as a battle cry for a revolution of individual rights. He did not only speak to a country torn apart, but a world in need, reaching out to many more than he could of ever imagined. "Uprising" showcases exactly what Bob and The Wailers were about, and the message they intended to send is read loud and clear all over this amazing album. While every track is pure brilliance there are two that stand out particulary in my mind. "Could you be loved" is an amazing ode to self-awareness that is forever etched into the minds of musical listeners. However, Bob's true masterpiece was achieved with the amazing "Redemption Song" which has some of the most heart felt lyrics ever written. A Brilliant album, a brilliant man, R.I.P. Bob Marley.
Great Album.......2001-05-26
By far my favorite Bob Marley album, Uprising brings together all the great sounds of the Wailers one year before Marley's death. "Work" is one of my favorite tracks and combines great lyrics along with a killer rhythm. The fast paced dance track "Could You Be Loved" shows a different side to the Wailer's, reminiscent of Exodus from the 1977 album "Exodus." This track, juxtaposed to the slow, acoustic "Redemption Song" shows the versatility of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Lyrically, rhythmically, and vocally, this album is the zenith of the Wailer's albums.
