1 out of 5 stars Sad.......2005-11-24

I really tried hard to enjoy this cd but it is just impossible. I'm a huge tool fan with all there albums and everything else that comes with being a fan: t-shirts, etc... The thing is is that it sounds like some bum with a violen downtown playing tool songs. Nothing much. It is really upbeat and high pitched when the tool songs are supposed to be dark and moving. To start with they need more instruments then that lame ass violen or whatever they are using you may say, "oh but they have more instruments you just are being annoying!" NO! all I hear is that annoying fast-paced, high pitched string instument. I would recommend listening to this cd entirely before you buy it, I guess some people actualy liked this cd since it has 4 stars right now. Thank God I bought it on ebay for $3.99 it made for a good disc. I'm just putting the word out there, this cd sucks.

5 out of 5 stars What to do with a String Quartet tribute?.......2005-05-25

Let me put it short and sweet:

Tool - kicka**
Metamorphic - kicka**

Mix them together - holy f***ing s***!!!!

That's right... mix the original Tool song with the tribute song, and the song explodes like a 20,000 megaton nuclear warhead! Now THAT... is power!

5 out of 5 stars great.......2005-02-21

I think who ever wrote " Dont give thease people your money " should think into it more. All of thease tribute bring a different light to all of the groups that they cover. Every one loves to listen to there favorite bands and what this does is it lets you hear songs that you love in a different way. Witch i found verry interesting. I enjoyed this tool cover cd since that day i heard it in my friends car. i imidietly went out a bought it because i thought it was amazing that somone out there had enough guts to cover todays music with an orchastra. I also thought that it was verry acurate to what tool actualy did with the music. I enjoyed it.
Thank you.

2 out of 5 stars String Quartet Tribute - Good Intentions.......2005-01-22

Tool's music has often been described as "orchestral." It can evoke so many different emotions. My mother even enjoys listens to them. In fact, she says she can almost visualize a ballet to some of their songs. That being said, classical music can sometimes have EVERYTHING to do with a band's music, which would make it obvious to do a string quartet tribute album. I study classical music at a collegiate level, and I applaud these groups' efforts. However, a tribute doesn't necessarily sound good by just playing the same notes as was written. Classical music is played with a different style, and is meant to evoke emotion (just as Tool does). This CD in particular sounds like someone plugged in a Tool recording into a MIDI file. No emotion whatsoever. A lot of the songs chosen don't translate well to a quartet of strings, and the ones that do are so incredibly bland. This idea is great, but I have yet to run accross a SQT with nice arrangements and professional performers.

5 out of 5 stars C. Sipperley's an idiot.......2005-01-17

I would like to say in the defense of the producers of these String Quartet Tribute albums that they have honored me and my band with their efforts. This Sipperley guy (or girl) obviously doesn't understand that:

1. We as artists give the String Quartet Tribute producers the right to put these CDs out.
2. It provides our songs the opportunity to be heard and played in venues that would otherwise not play our music.
3. We get paid for every single CD that is manufactured.

There is nothing "shameless" about their efforts, it is the music business and it only helps extend the life of our songs by having new releases of them available for our current fans and the new ones we gain from the different versions.

I'm not writing this as a debate, I actually have bought every String Quartet Tribute CD I could find to support the efforts of this great series after I was given a copy of the one which pays tribute to my band; Dashboard Confessional.

This is a great album as are the others. I believe that it is a great investment for any fan and each copy that you buy actually pays the artist because these products are licensed.

Fueled largely by the endlessly inventive original music chronicled in the first anthology from the hit TV series Alias, young composer Michael Giacchino's rising star quickly led to big screen success via his first major feature, Pixar's computer animated superhero spoof The Incredibles. The composer's rich eclecticism -- one that spans a thumping, contemporary techno club-savvy and brassy winks at the 60's spy-jazz canon in just its opening few cuts -- is still one of the major delights on this collection of cues from Alias' second season. But its second half largely becomes a more dramatically focused, if no less creatively restless showcase for Giacchino's orchestral writing, the scale of which impressively belies its small-screen origins. Its rare to hear TV music that evokes everything from the brooding classicism of Samuel Barber and Bernard Herrmann to more contemporary scoring masters like Goldsmith and Barry -- with a forceful nod to mixmeister Paul Oakenfold in the bargain -- but it's all here on this compelling showcase for one of film music's most promising new stars. --Jerry McCulley

Album Description

Featuring more of composer Michael Giacchino's thrilling music — sort of a techno/club take on the classic James Bond sound. Giacchino's scores for the episodes of Season 2 received even greater acclaim than his first 22 episodes. Also included is the heart-stopping main title theme composed by series creator J.J. Abrams.

3 out of 5 stars Alias Soundtrack.......2007-03-10

It came well packaged and was what I had ordered. Unfortunatley I didn't realize this was the orchestral soundtrack as I was looking for the soundtrack of songs they included in each episode. Good service though.

4 out of 5 stars i want the album!..........2005-04-20

yes the score is very good but i think an album with a couple of songs heard on the show would be great to.trough the 4 seasons of the show, they featured a lots of great tunes from really talented artists (sarah maclachlan,u2,cat stevens,jet,etc...).SOi think the show deserves to have it own album like the rest of the TV shows of our time. The only thing i hope is that if they make one, they won't use those which totally not suit the spirit of the show like sex and the city and summerland soundtracks!...
the ideal soundtrack would be:
jet:last chance
kate bush:this woman's work
stars:going,going,gone
matt beckler:from the summer
hathaway:there's something better
daniel lenz:spy
josh canova:almost ran
the crystal method:starting over
U2:bad
jude:you all...everybody
debbie wesberg:home
michelle featherstone:stay
sarah maclachlan:worlds on fire (alias mix)
so what are you waiting for?!...

5 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Follow-up to Alias' Season 1 Soundtrack.......2005-03-13

This is more wonderful music from soundtrack composer Michael Giacchino. There is a greater number of slower-paced, melancholy tracks than on the first season soundtrack, but it's a great progression nevertheless. The high-speed action techno tracks remain exciting as usual, while the slower ones are quite emotive. Unfortunately, like with the previous soundtrack, the music from the show's closing credits is not included (though the same melody is peppered throughout both CDs). Here's hoping for future soundtrack releases for Seasons 3 and 4!

3 out of 5 stars Not very exciting, I must say. .......2005-03-13

As a huge Alias fan, I was ecstatic when I got this soundtrack. Sadly, the majority of it consisted of slow, sad songs that were honestly pretty boring. I was looking forward to more loud and exciting songs, but there's probably only about 4 or 5 of those on here. If you like all the musics on Alias though, I'd say go for it!

Evergreen terrace are truly good at what they do. While they may sound a lot like countless other bands in this now overbloated scene, just remember, Evergreen terrace were there long before any of the newer bands came out. Evergreen Terrace beautifully mix agression with melody and clean vocals, a lot like all the other bands out there now, but like i said, just remember, Evergreen was one of the first. Check them out if you want to know who helped jump start this scene

4 out of 5 stars I like it.......2006-05-25

I've listened to a lot of different metal bands, and I have to say that while this isn't "groundbreaking" or "new" I like it, and that's all that matters. This is a great hardcore album, I would give it 5 stars but I didn't like all of the songs. I will say, that the album starts off well with "Dogfight" which is easily one of my favorite songs on this album.

If you like hardcore then you will want to pick up this album, if you don't, then you won't.

I would comment on this bands previous albums, but this is their only album I have.

2 out of 5 stars hmmm.......2006-05-11

I enjoyed their previous albums and I was hoping that this one would do the same as well. But I guess not. I can't believe people are giving them 5 stars. There isn't much of originality here, so today I sold the CD.

The End.

5 out of 5 stars for the fans and the newbies..........2006-04-15

This is their most recent album (there are rumors of them writing another one). Andrew is the screamer and Craig...(not andrew as opposed to the comment below me)...is the softer singer, he sings "the pretty stuff". This release makes me continue to love ET with all my heart. Some will argue that Burned Alive By Time is much better than this one...but i say you pick up both copies and see for yourself. This band has such
talent and it's an easy listen for hardcore kids.

4 out of 5 stars this is good.......2005-12-24

Evergreen Terrace is a good band...i got into them by a friend, and i thought they were pretty awesome...Burned Alive by Time is a good CD, alittle bit better than this..this CD is good..."Dog Fight" "New Friend Request" and "I Say You He Dead" are my favorite songs...the lyrics are good, and Andrew can scream..and i think he does the singing...and the singing is good
for fans of Killswitch Engage, and Atreyu

5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2007-04-03

This CD is everything that SYG is live that is lacking in Mutiny! While the full length was a little over-produced, Reset captures the energy that is on full display at the show. From the first track on the CD (an instrumental) it is non-stop 15 minutes of some of the best music I have heard recently. The only qualm I have with SYG is that with both the EP and LP, I still only have 45 minutes of music, while I could listen to this all day. Definitely pick this CD up, you will not regret it.

Open up the pit and prepare to be brutalized, cuz Hoods' new disc continues to bring the oldskool feel that any fan of true hardcore have come to love. Speedy blastbeats and heavy drops dominate this album, getting you ready to put on your dancing shoes and throw down something sick. The vocals stay sharp and hard, and while lyrical content isn't amazing, it's just as pissed-off as it should be. If you're looking for posi, you won't fine it here. Instaed, Hoods delivers what they should: heavy, furious hardcore that will smash your face and leave you begging for more.

4 out of 5 stars Exquisite Music.......2006-12-27

I first learned about classical tribute albums for metal bands when I heard about the Estonian group Rondellus and bought their magnificent tribute to Black Sabbath, called Sabbatum.

Sabbatum was such a brilliant album that, when I heard about Anotomica, I listened to it and bought the album. Bear in mind, I know nothing of Tool's music. But I do know classical music, and I love this album. The renditions of the Tool songs sound fantastic to me. The music is well-played, and I love feeling the textures of the music and the interweaving of the instrument voices.

The only reason I don't give this album five stars is because of the song "Rampant" on the second CD. It is total crap and not at all enjoyable to listen to if you like classical music; it is disharmonious and disorganized-sounding. It's jarring and unpleasing to the ear. It was also not written by Tool, so I'm rather annoyed that its composer tacked it onto this tribute album.

My advice--Copy all of these songs except "Rampant" onto your iPod and bliss out!

3 out of 5 stars Great idea, mediocre execution........2006-04-23

Just a few days ago I was driving to work listening to Lateralus in my car and I was thinking how interesting it would sound to arrange some of the songs for a string quartet, so I was greatly suprised when I came across this very album at Barnes & Noble.

While I think it's an excellent idea and I can think of few bands that would work better in this format, I was very disappointed in the execution. There just seemed to be very little... intensity. Listen to Ticks & Leeches for example, or the end of Schism--not to mention they skip my favorite section of The Patient. If you want to hear how much sonic ass a string quartet can kick, check out recordings by the Kronos Quartet. I would love to see what they could have done with this material.

4 out of 5 stars Transcribed Bliss.......2005-12-08

This cd set is an amazing orchestral transposition of one of the greatest melodic bands of the current era. The cd is not for everyone. Obviously the metalheads that only appreciate repetitieve basal tones in their ears that will eventually lead to deafness, will not find this set to be to their musical expectations. Those of us who appreciate Tool for their melodic qualities, as well as appreciate 'classical music,' should find these discs to meet their expectations. Obviously, being a string tribute, these discs are instrumental, not rock/industrial covers with vocals. Overall, these discs are refreshing, especially considering most tribute albums these days. After all, the core purpose of a tribute album is to make make money off of someone elses artistic ability. I give this recording 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that it is a cover album, and it didn't amaze me as much as some classical music does, the first time that i heard it. Overall, it is a very enjoyable listen.

3 out of 5 stars Was expecting so much more.......2005-04-26

First, let me say that I'm a huge Tool fan, and I don't even like "heavy" music that much. I really enjoy their music and I think Maynard is the best vocalist in rock today. Now, on to these CDs. I didn't like them for the most part. The only reason I'm giving them three stars is because they have a great concept and their are a few pretty good sections in them. The songs just don't represent the darkness of Tool's music. If you want to see what I'm talking about, preview Schism. I think the reason this doesn't work is it's going to be impossible to recreate Tool's sound with a violin. A group like Apocalyptica (four cellos re-creating Metallica if you are unfamiliar) would be different, because it would allow Tool's darkness to come through. Furthermore, Danny Carey on drums is probably half the reason Tool is so wonderful. Put any other drummer in Danny's place, and Tool will not be nearly as good as they are. Once again, a string quartet can't replace a great drummer with their instruments. Overall, if you want to check these out, go ahead, but I'm just saying that you're not going to get nearly the same impact as you will when listening to Tool.

Album Description

Hailing from Massachusetts, the metal and hardcore capital of North America, Unearth brings charismatic riffs, thought provoking lyrics and pummelling breakdowns. Unearth masterfuly combines an intoxicating mix of American and European metal with hardcore ethic and punch. This unique approach makes Unearth one of the most abrasive, commanding and emotionally charged groups in the underground scene today.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good Album.......2007-04-07

For you who are not familiar with Unearth and wonder why there are so many repetitive songs, it is because before their popular times with Metalblade Records, Unearth was with the much smaller Eulogy records. Those were the songs that they made with Eulogy, for the most part. That is why I think there are so many of the same songs in their previous albums. Oh, and it is a really good album, especially the live stuff. And the vocals have been improving since this album, and only got better from The Oncoming Storm and III: In The Eyes of Fire.

3 out of 5 stars Kinda dissapointed...........2006-01-14

When I first saw this album I was excited because I thought it was a new release. This is not a new release. In fact it repeats songs that have already been in two other productions. For example:

Shattered by the Sun - Above the fall of man(EP), Stings of Conscience
Endless - Endless(EP), Oncoming Storm
My Desire - Stings of Conscience, Endless(EP)

I just find it very repetative and way too soon in their career to release something like this. The live tracks are good but the recording quality kinda sucks. I am only giving it three stars because if you don't own the "Above the fall of man(EP)" I would recommend that you get this thing seeing as how the EP is out of print. This is the only reason this CD is of any value because you can still get Endless(EP) on Amazon.

So the only thing we have going on here is an out of print EP, an EP that is still in print, and some live stuff, which isn't all that great, considering seeing them live is so much better. Those are just my thoughts, buy what you want.

The first half of the album is stellar live tracks and the next half of the album is their hard to find EPs. All in all, a good release from unearth. the live tracks sound good and the eps display a raw, powerful unearth. if you don' tknow who this band is, they are an american metal band who have huge swedish metal influences.

The first half of the album is stellar live tracks and the next half of the album is their hard to find EPs. All in all, a good release from unearth. the live tracks sound good and the eps display a raw, powerful unearth. if you don' tknow who this band is, they are an american metal band who have huge swedish metal influences.

4 out of 5 stars The New Unearth Album?! Not Exactly...........2005-11-22

First of all it should be noted that this is not Unearth's new album. It's just a compilation cd which features some live tracks, and their two older eps "Endless" and "Above The Fall Of Man". While it may not necessarily be new music, if you've never heard any of the band's older material, or experienced their live show, then this is a nice treat for you. Basically Eulogy is trying to capitalize on the success which Unearth is having right now by re-issuing their first recorded material packaged with some extra tracks, in hopes that newer fans of the band will pick it up. And if you're a newer fan of the band that might be a good idea, just make sure you know what you are getting.

The first five tracks of the album are taken from a live show in Long Island, NY. The tracks are only from their older album "The Stings of Conscience". However the live tracks are definitly the highlight of the album. An Unearth live show is extremely intense, and the feeling which these tracks give off are amazing. They sound just as good recorded as the band does live, which is quite an accomplishment. I actually like hearing these older songs because many of them aren't performed live by the band very often anymore, particularly "Fuel The Fire", and this is a great chance to hear how great the songs sound in a live environment. The next four tracks are from the "Endless" Ep, which was released in 2002. "Endless" of course was featured on "The Oncoming Storm", Unearth's breakthrough album for Metal Blade Records. "Internal War", "My Desire" and "The Charm" are all original tracks with have not appeared on any other albums. The "Endless" Ep is actually one of my favorite pieces of music by the band, and this is a great place to hear it, if you don't already happen to own it. The last four tracks are from the "Above The Fall Of Man" EP, which was released in 1999. The production is kind of rough, but the feeling is just as intense as any Unearth recording to date, although you can tell how far the band has come since its inception. "Shattered By The Sun" appeared on Unearth's first full length "The Stings Of Conscience", and the three other tracks, "Call To Judgement", "Convictions" and "Lefty" are originals which haven't been released anywhere else.

Basically if you already own "Endless" and "Above The Fall" of man, there is little use for this cd. Really the only thing you're getting is some live tracks, and while they are good, they're not worth shelling out $15 when you can just download them off the internet, or go to an Unearth show in person. Overall the release is solid, but it's pretty apparent what Eulogy was trying to do with this cd. Nothing against them though becaue Eulogy is a great label, they should just make it more clear to people what this cd really is. Hopefully most fans will check into the album before buying to see whether or not it's a necessary purchase for them. Otherwise you're getting a very solid compilation from a great band.

Album Description

Following in the footsteps of LIFETIME, GORILLA BISCUITS, and SAVES THE DAY, SET YOUR GOALS espouse a brand of positive hardcore punk that has sadly been absent in the music scene in recent years. Recognized as one of the "Top 100 Bands to Look Out For in 2006" by Alternative Press, the band has already gained both respect from critics and ardent fans in their relatively brief career. The band formed in early 2004, as an outlet to play the type of music they loved listening to. From there it grew into what it is now- a dedicated group of guys that have honed their songwriting abilities and are constantly on tour. The band has even persevered and stayed positive despite the theft of their trailer and the rebuilding of their van's transmission (four times). SET YOUR GOALS will be touring for the rest of the year in the U.S. and Europe with such bands as CRIME IN STEREO, BLACKLISTED, IGNITE, and THE STEAL. They are currently touring with CRIME IN STEREO and have been receiving an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the crowd. The new album, Mutiny, is full of catchy hooks and insightful lyrics, sure to make top ten lists everywhere.

4 out of 5 stars New and energizing.......2007-07-14

It's been a while since I heard a new band that has such an energizing sound. The whole format of the album adds to this as each song streams seamlessly into the next. Mutiny! is fast, powerful, just edgy enough and leaves you wanting more. I had the privlidge of seeing these guys live on the War Sucks Lets Party Tour and they we're even better live than on the album. They have a good shot at making a big splash on the scene.

2 out of 5 stars Its tearing up my heart..........2007-03-28

People are hailing this like a great punk album. Okay, if you don't think this sounds along the lines of Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, and everything else in the uber-pop realm, you are suffering from severe denial. The only difference is these guys have breakdowns. However, If you like that style, then cool, they do it better that the other mentioned bands.
Keep in mind that this MTV friendly Post-Punk pop is what killed Skate Punk, and some of us are not forgiving. Part of the punk rock scene was not giving way to accessible radio-friendly tunes. But for me, if I am going to listen to power-pop, I'm going to go all the way and just jam to some N Sync.

5 out of 5 stars See this band live!!!.......2007-03-16

My first exposure to Set Your Goals came in the form of an Anti-Flag concert where i had never heard of the three other bands playing. Though they played only a 28 minute set in a four hour concert, they undoubtedly stole the show from both the mediocre at best filler bands (Alexisonfire and Big D and the Kids Table) and even from the main act, Anti-Flag. I had to pick up the CD, and was equally impressed with the band members, for they just hung out selling their stuff, talking to fans, signing autographs, and taking pictures. The CD has cemented them into my top 5 bands, and is a fresh breath of air that is the at times stale punk scene. The song structure is varied and original, they do not stick to the verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus structure that has pervaded pop-punk since Blink-182 made it big. In addition, the lyrics are simply superb, they are thoughtful and pertinent without being preachy. This is a truly amazing album, but go see them live, you will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Set Your Goals - Mutiny!.......2006-10-13

The Up Side: Melodic hardcore pop-punk (emphasis on the pop and punk) the way New Found Glory used to do it before hitting the big time. Mutiny's first single of the same name is instantly memorable, and We Do It For The Money, OBVIOUSLY is a punk rock gem (52 seconds in length, and not a single moment wasted). To be honest, most of the material on Mutiny! is as enjoyable as it's first single, making the entire record a complete and rewarding listen.

The Down Side: Mutiny! is too short! 9 songs, 2 intros and 28 minutes simply isn't enough for an LP, even if most of the material is stellar. A couple more songs would have rounded things out nicely.

The Flip Side: Those who hate pop-punk will be impressed with Set Your Goals' authentic hardcore influence. Those who hate Hardcore may be drawn in by the pop sensibility this band embraces. It's a win, win situation.

The Conclusion: Set Your Goals are quickly becoming a favorite at your local record store and web zine, so go ahead and give them a try. If pop-punk/hardcore is your thing, and you miss NFG, what have you got to lose?

The End.

5 out of 5 stars Pacing!.......2006-09-23

One reviewer commented that they didn't know what to do with the short intro song, but I have to disagree and say they help this album stand out. This is one of the best paced albums I've ever heard. It's clear that the song order was maticulously constructed and much of this was written to fit into the whole.

Another example of great pacing on this record is in the title track. This song has one of the best and biggest choruses ever in a pop-punk/hardcore song and it's because they set up for over a minute and a half and only do it twice. It gives it so much more power.

5 out of 5 stars Their Solid Foundation.......2006-09-20

Unearth is a band that has made a strong impact over the years with their breakthrough album, "The Oncoming Storm". However, they have also been making an impact on the underground metalcore scene as well three years earlier, with the release of their debut album, "The Stings of Conscience". During the last few years when metalcore was a stronger and not a generic overcrowded genre, a share of bands make groundbreaking albums, with acts including Converge, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Prayer For Cleansing, and so forth. Unearth executes this style well with "The Stings of Conscience".

This band has a strong metal influence in their music, with leads in tracks like "One Step Away", plus, there's a semi-ballad in the beginning of the track "My Desire". Another thing I noticed about this band is that they can execute breakdowns perfectly and when they are needed. Listen to the intro to "My Heart Bleeds No Longer". Great, isn't it? The vocals, well, it takes a matter of getting used to. True, Trevor Phipps isn't the greatest vocalist of all time, but with excellent musicmanship on this CD, why does it matter?

I am happy to have this CD in my collection. It's a different sound from the Unearth you're familiar with today, but it's a refresher from most of the music out there today.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy stuff.......2006-02-25

This is one awesome CD. I bought the Oncoming Storm before this one and I prefer The Stings of Conscience. This CD just plain rocks, heavy. Sweet for head banging, the guitars amaze me, drumming super fast, screaming is solid throughout and nothing is wrong with this CD. Perfect 5 stars. All metalheads must buy this.
Fav songs: One Step Away, Stings of Conscience, My Desire.
So just buy it already, and get ready to be annihilated.

1 out of 5 stars Talent And Lyrics Are Strong - Innovation And Vocals Are Weak.......2005-11-06

"The Stings Of Conscience" will offer a wide range of things to it's listeners, whether it's the very distinct sound of two guitarists that actually stands out at all times, the very solid and precise drumming, or the great writing skills that come out in the lyrics; but along with those stand outs, this album also offers very bland and mediocre vocals which are overpowered by all the instruments at all times, and after listening to this album it's hard to sometimes pick out which song is which because this band didn't try being innovative and sticks to almost the same formula or flow.

Don't get me wrong, `Unearth' is a very talented band instrumentally, guitarists Buz McGrath and Ken Susi are very gifted with the guitar and you can tell they took the time on writing the songs... but ultimately it really gets boring after awhile. Mike Rudberg is truly an excellent drummer and his abilities really shine on this release, he is one of the more solid members in the band for this album. Bassist Chris Rybicki does his part, but that's about it, he never pulls himself in front of the guitars more than a couple times; which is typically him sliding notes.

Now, Trevor Phipps the vocalists... some great things can come from this man but also some terrible things. His lyrics are simply great and sometimes very inspiring. When reading them I rarely found myself lost or confused in his thoughts, as for the most part he is very straight forward. But what was most unsatisfying was his vocal abilites... his screams seem very held back and almost as though he was sick during the recording process. They in fact get really annoying to listen to and have absolutely no appeal on me. Maybe there is a reason why the instruments were over powering him throughout the album.

This album defiantly does have some memorable moments that stand out. This includes the intro/bridge breakdown of "My Heart Bleeds No Longer", which before the bridge Trevor yells "I know so many who would want to see you burn!" which goes along with the lyrics about someone or a group looking up to or following someone only to realize you've been betrayed by their lies and schemes. My personal favorite of the album "One Step Away" features very inspiring lyrics about how we have only one life and we need to get out there and live it, not to mention the incredible breakdown/chant at the end - "ONE STEP AWAY!" - which is the most memorable part of the album, and really great to see live.

This release could have had something, if they would have taken the time to really make each song sound completely different and be a little experimental. The talent shines but it grows tiring to listen to, and before I know it I'm actually sitting there getting bored. Hopefully with some maturity in the vocals, the powerful lyrics will be able to be listened to better! Which has happened on their latest release "The Oncoming Storm", so go out and pick that album up first, and if you really like that let a friend let you borrow this album. Unearth sits itself on the sideline bench with the rest of the typical and boring metalcore bands. While they seem to be getting very popular, almost `mainstream' (touring with Slipknot), they won't be getting off the bench anytime soon on my music field.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Debut From Unearth.......2005-06-24

This album is jawbreaking, jaw-dropping, jaw-crushing, you name it. From the moment I first the album's first track, I felt like my headphones just sandwiched my skull in. This is what I love about Unearth, the ferocity of hardcore with the technicality of metalcore. While I personally would have preferred screaming vocals that weren't "typical sounding", it's still a pretty solid album. As you might have heard, you should believe it, this album has some awesome breakdowns. Some of the best you'll hear in a LONG while. This band's second effort "The Oncoming Storm" is really good...it's also starting to go down that boring sea of metalcore rubbish but they still stand out among the rest.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Proves that Evergreen Terrace isn't holding all the talent.......2006-08-11

Casey Jones is the Side project of Josh from Evergreen Terrace. Only slightly similiar to Evergreen in the music department and the fact that their lyrics are all about being straight edge, i enjoyed this album, although i am far from being straight edge myself.
While i may not agree with the idealogy of straight edge, that doesnt mean i cant enjoy the bands and music. Many of them, like Casey Jones, are just as fast and brutal as the non-straight edge bands out there today. All in all, i was very satisfied with this album.

2 out of 5 stars Actually That Bad.......2006-07-18

Talk about a let down! This album was neither hot nor cold, so I spewed it out of my ipod. It was just so bland, the last album had seasoning, funny movie quotes (though that one track with the 30 second movie line was a little gratitous (smart man Mic)) but I just don't know. Really I can't say too much bad about this cause I just couldn't pay attention to it, it's really boring, there were two good songs (Coke-Bong whatever and the Ship to Port song) but the rest were so bland, so bland! I'd say listen to this first, if you like generic mosh core be my guest, if your the kind of kid who lacks a discerning ear then look this way, but I demand perfection! Damnit!

4 out of 5 stars great example of hardcore.......2006-07-12

i saw these guys about a month and a half ago open up for evergreen terrace and the calico system.... f*cking blew my mind away... i ended up buying the album a week later and it hasn't left my cd player.... josh james vocals are loud, obnoxious, and powerful.... the guitar work is fantastic.... the only thing about this album that i don't care for is the songwriting..... very unoriginal... but hey, not bad for a bunch of kids
