5 out of 5 stars Maximum bang for the buck.......2004-03-03

As UFO twofer's go, you just can't beat this one. Two of their most accomplished albums back to back on the same disc. Obsession is an album that even the casual UFO fan will be familiar with, but the surprising "No Place To Run" should not be overlooked. Obsession is notable as Michael Schenker's final UFO album and the song lineup is impressive. UFO classics Only You Can Rock Me, Pack It Up And Go, Hot N Ready and Cherry all resided on the album, and while it wasn't quite as good as previous effort Lights Out, it's pretty close. What makes this twofer better than the No Heavy Petting/Lights Out album is No Place To Run's superiority over No Heavy Petting. Despite the fact that UFO was not anywhere near as influential or popular by the time No Place To Run was released, the album is a scorcher. Paul Chapman's guitar playing allowed them to keep the legend alive when Michael left without so much as a hiccup. This isn't to say that the No Heavy Petting/Lights Out twofer isn't a vital disc in it's own right. As a matter of fact, owning these two UFO twofer's could conceivably be considered an ultimate UFO collection. There would be a few gaps, but nothing that Essential couldn't fill, and lately it comes cheap.

5 out of 5 stars A Pure Classic produced by the Beatles' George Martin.......2001-11-11

This album shows how some decent material can be elevated by a great producer; even w/out guitar-wiz Schenker, UFO manages to put out one of its best albums, with tight melodies and songwriting, Phil Mogg's pinnacle as a vocalist, and Chapman doing an admirable and inspired job taking over for Schenker. It's unfortunate it was all downhill for the band after this release. Buy it, let it soak in, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. The mix is a bit dry and flat for the bass, but it's punchy nonetheless. Letting Go, Mystery Train, This Fire Burns Tonight, No Place to Run, and the powerful Anyday are all standouts.
