Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The term Irish tenor may be fraught with as many wrong-headed, anachronistic characterizations as any phrase in music. Simply Wonderful.......2005-08-29

This CD is just as great as the more recent "Ronan" CD. I clicked on 3 stars in error. This is a 5++ star album! His voice is sheer perfection, and the songs are wonderful. I also highly recommend the DVD of "The Impossible Dream," even though I didn't care at all for the London Community Choir who sing four songs. Note: The American version of the DVD doesn't have the 25-minute "Dr. Courageous" extra on it that the Irish version does. I saw him in concert last month, and besides having a voice that soars to the rafters, he is warm, funny and endearing.

ronan tynan is a great role model for adults and children alike. he was born with a deformity and made a decision he would make something of himself, he had a goal and he surpassed it. no one puts as much of their heart into as he. he puts the audience into his songs, he makes us feel he is singing to each one of us individually. Barbara Cook is one of today's most accomplished song stylists, and if you don't believe us, just listen to this live album. It's a master class in the art of singing. It documents an evening at Carnegie Hall during which Cook proved that she can dissect and extract the substance out of the simplest of lyrics. One of the best surprises is "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" (from Company), which is taken at an amiable trot and allows the singer to display its humor. Cook is not a swinging singer and uptempo is not her pace; give her a ballad, though, and she'll wring the last drop of emotion out of it. Her version of "Losing My Mind" (here paired with "Not a Day Goes By") is simply astonishing. The singer also performs songs that Sondheim has said he wished he had written, an awful lot of them by Harold Arlen. No complaints here. Guest Malcolm Gets solos on a few songs and duets with Cook on others, including "Let's Face the Music and Dance." Wow!.......2004-02-20

Having read the other reviews there is little more for me to add. I have been a Barbara Cook fan for a longtime and for me, this is one of her best concerts ever. I do, however, prefer the DVD. As with some other reviewers, I do not want to hear Malcolm Gets (as much as I like him) when I want to listen to Barbara. Her flawless interpretation of music is a hard act to follow for any singer! I managed to see this concert 4 times over a year and a half. Each time I saw her the voice was stronger and more assured (I would not have thought that possible). I can't help but think we will have the pleasure of hearing Ms Cook for many years to come. For those people who enjoyed his CD I strongly recommend purchasing the DVD. Barabara's rendition of So Many People is breathtaking (literally, I don't think I breathed once during the entire song). If you ever have opportunity to see her live - go! She has an ability to make you feel as if every song she sings and every word she speaks is directed to you alone. She can take a large venue and make it feel as intimate as your own living room. Having had the pleasure of meeting her I can say she is as youthful and pleasurable in person as she is in her performance.

After being privileged to attend this concert, I had to own the CD. Once a lyric coloratura and the original Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide, Ms. Cook has become (in her 70s) a true diva, blessed with a velvety, warm sound. Every note has meaning. Her high B-flat on "Ice Cream" is still the envy of any soprano today. Everyone should whistle after hearing the superb performances on this CD. Even better, though, is the experience of having been in the concert hall for the live performance. Brava, Ms. Cook!

An amazing intro to the body of work of a true master.......2003-06-16

When I first bought tickets for the 'Mostly Sondheim' show on tour (in San Francisco) I figured it couldn't be too bad. Besides, I had only been exposed to a few of his songs (Anyone Can Whistle, Losing My Mind...) and had only seen "A Little Night Music". On the way out of the theater I immediately picked up this recording of the program. It is truly amazing. I immediately began listening to it and have barely put it down in the last few months. Furthermore, my Sondheim CD collection increased in size from an unflattering zero to five (and it's still growing)! This is an amazing introduction to the works of Stephen Sondheim, who is now my favorite modern musical composer). Buy this now if you don't already have it!

Beautiful, moving concert.......2003-04-13

This is a wonderful CD set with a great selection of songs. I do want to express a slight reservation, however. Barbara Cook has been one of my favorite singers for a number of years and the way her voice defies time is extraordinary -- for her to be singing with such bright, beautiful tone in her mid-70s with no wobble or beat in the voice is an amazing achievment.

I do have to say that by 2001, when this concert was recorded, Cook seemed to have a lost a little bit of power and intensity in her singing. This is only natural for someone of her age. Her voice is still lovely, but you can sense her keeping it in reserve a bit. She's as expressive as ever, but compare the rendition of "I got lost in his arms" on this album to the one on her previous album recorded in 1999, "The Champion Season", and there's less urgency and vocal depth in her singing here. That said, the high B at the end of "Ice Cream" is sensational.

So, despite that caveat, this is, again, a wonderful album, a must for Cook fans, especially for the gorgeous renditions of songs I'd never thought I'd get to hear her perform: "Not a Day Goes By", "Happiness/Loving You", "San Francisco", etc. Buy it!

... and I love Barbara Cook.......2003-02-11

This recording is a disappointment for me. It is not her best work, and Malcolm Gets is uninspired. My biggest complaint however is the engineering of the recording. Throughout the speaking was to soft, the singing volumes uneven, and the applause deafening. I will be passing this CD on to friends, and will later donate it to my local library.

Recorded live at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia, this double CD is one heck of an extensive tribute to Stephen Sondheim. Backed only by Paul Ford on piano, Mandy Patinkin gets through nearly three dozen songs penned by the Broadway master. Some are obvious (excerpts from Sunday in the Park with George, in which the singer created the title role), others less so ("If You Can Find Me I'm Here" from Evening Primrose). Patinkin is often mocked for his shivering falsetto, but here, it's actually when his voice explores a lower register that it falters. What's more interesting is when he tackles songs usually sung by women, such as Follies' "Broadway Baby" and Company's "Another Hundred People" and "You Could Drive a Person Crazy"--the latter hammed up so much that you can hear the chewing of the scenery. A distinctively mannered interpreter, Patinkin remains an acquired taste, but fans of his will be in heaven with this set. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Sondheim recital.......2007-01-22

Probably the best way to approach these disks is to treat them like a recital in a concert hall. Rather as you would listen to a Schubert or Schumann song cycle. Taken together this way, we come to hear Sondheim as one of our finest composers, serious, comic, manic, depressive, always dead on target no matter what the subject matter. And Patinkin is perfect for these songs; he understands the meaning and value of every note and every word, just as a fine concert singer would do, and he makes his listeners understand, too. One of the most intriguing concept albums in recent memory, and a joy all the way through. Bob Finley, Palm Springs, CA.

I too LOVE Mandy and Stephen Sondheim and own just about everything both has ever made! I also have been to 6 of Mandy's live performances. This was truly a big dissapointment to me. Every concert I have seen Mandy in has been filled with emotion and his personality just grabs hold of you for an evening of wonderful escape-ism. This to me was very un-entertaining and I actually became irritated after awhile of listening to it. It seemed to drone on with out the wonderful feelings and emotions and soaring voice that Mandy typically puts into his music. I gave this as a gift too (since my friend and I had missed Mandy at his Sondheim review in DC last year) and felt badly that I had. There are so many other great recordings of Mandy...Kidults, Saturday in the Park with George, The Secret Garden, Mandy sings Rogers & Hammerstien and Sondheim. This one has just sat on my shelf after I played it through twice hoping to warm up to it...while my other recordings are very worn out with years of playing!

Adequate performance; poor entertainment.......2003-05-04

I received this disc the same day a "Philip Quast Live at the Donmar". The Quast disc has its own flaws (and I dont wish to compare the two performers) but it has been strung together in a more thoughtful manner, with witty imagination and using a more dangerous in the choice of songs, which is really where this disc fails. The songs here are generally enjoyable though rather standard, and the lack of cohesion (running the songs together doesnt count) means I just dip into the discs listening to a few favourites, rather than enjoying the whole show.

a very disappointed fan.......2003-02-05

I have every recording Patinkin appears on, even if he's only on one track; I adore his voice, his flair, his emotion, his ability to deliver a song.

But (much of) this recording is disappointing, mainly because Mr. Patinkin's voice in the lower range sounds muddled and forced, as though he's lost ability to control it (however, the more falsetto sounds are as clear and sharp as ever).

And I don't care for the format of this performance. Live recordings should have live audience reactions: one (often unrelated) song after another without applause had me wondering when--if ever--was the audience was going to be allowed to react.

Also, while I've never had the privilege of attending a Patinkin concert, I imagined that--above all-- he would be passionate. Perhaps he was. But what (mostly) comes across on the CD is a somber--almost technical--performance.

the apex of into another.......2006-05-02

This is by far the best album Into Another has released. The first album (self-titled) was awesome. Pure power metal in the vein of Iron Maiden but with a much heavier groove going. The EP (Creepy Eepy) was amazing, lending a little more seriousness to the vocals but still a pure power metal record complete with a ballad about a dead friend. But who knew they would arrive here, at Ignaurus, with such creativity and such beauty all wrapped up in sick progressive metal and blues? With such wonderful, poetic lyrics about frustration, dying, the hidden evils of religion, dead war heroes, maritime murders, ghost pirates and fear of identity?

To this day, this is easily one of the most inventive pieces of music I have heard. It is still metal, but it is heavily blues based, and the guitars are heavy, but in a different way. They steamroll instead of crunching. And Richies voice has gotten even better (So have his lyrics) There is nothing too toungue in cheek about this release, save maybe the acoustic "Two Snowflakes" which is about losing someone dear to you. But even that is still a great song. The opener "Running Into Walls" is by far one of my favorite songs. I feel awkward even describing it, as it is not so metal, and it is not all that heavy, but it gives you a punch in the gut, and then makes you feel all flowery. "Poison Fingers" may be the heaviest point on this record, but dips in and out of various proglike passages incorporating heavy riffs mingled with bluesy solos and some amazing bass work from Tony Bono (R.I.P.) And Richie keeps that voice rising up and down throughout, occasionally giving a thrusting grunt to punctuate a tense moment, and then its free and flowing again. "Maritime Murder" is a great song about a guy who was thrown off a boat at sea and comes back to haunt his detractors...wonderful imagery of sinking and the music grows to almost a tribal beat as the song closes. "
"William" starts off acoustically, very pretty, and details the story of a dead war hero and his memories. The chorus is great, and the songs builds with some good riffing. "Anxious" is a great ending to one of the most unique records around. It is in the first person and is song from the perspective of someone who wishes they were a different creatur. Something not so human, so they could hide away. The lyrics are great, "I wish i had wings, you'd all look so funny down there"

Overall, this my not be a very good review of this album. It is very hard to put into words, and the only way to know is to just pick it up, like I did. If you are familiar with their older work, there is a very good chance you will love this record. And if you are familiar with Seemless, their final record, then you will definitely enjoy this one....

Into Another-Ignaurus.......2004-08-15

Wonderful album. The second album by Into Another is their crowning acheivment, mixing Post-Hardcore and Maiden-like metal to come up with something unique. This album slows down the pace compared to their first outing _Into Another_ with 2 acoustic tracks and more mid-tempo rockers. Richie Birkenhead shines on this album with his high register vocals. He sings about haunted ghost ships, deceased war-heroes and much more. Some of the highlights on this album are Poison Fingers which has shouted vocals behind crushing riffs. Drowning features a great mid tempo gallopy riff and has a spacey atmosphere to it. Lastly, Anxious is an acoustic track and a great way to close out this album. It has an amazing bassline and has interesting lyrics about wanting to be another creature. If you ever see this album in stores (very hard to find) pick it up. You won't be disappointed

Still the Best.......2000-06-15

I've listened to Into Another for about 5 years now, and I still love them. I've been to 2 of their shows and they're just as good live as they are on their CD's. Their lyrics are original, creative and full of energy. This is definitely an awesome CD to buy!

This is one of the most amazing albums I have ever heard. More than hardcore, more than emo, Into Another will appeal to fans of both. Catchy melodies mixed with sincere, intelligent, and poetic lyrics make Ignaurus a staple on the CD rack of anyone who knows what's up.

If you are one of the smart ones who is considering buying an Into Another record, you might be saying, 'Hmmmm, but which one to buy??' If you were even smarter, you would be buying all of them. To me, 'Ignaurus' definitely would be the epitome of Into Another at their finest. Richie's lyrics and vocals allow you to escape into another world...the 'Creepy Eepy' ep...a definite must have as well. ALSO CHECK OUT RICHIE'S "PRE-INTO ANOTHER DAYS" BAND...UNDERDOG...A RE-RELEASE ON WRECKAGE RECORDS ....a must have for the collector...old school hardcore...Although not available through here, check out 'Seemless' their latest release. And for all you die hards, there's actually an unreleased CD bootleg floating around but we won't talk about that....

The songs in the CD are just awesome, some are like most of people here said, aou of his world, and other like 'Before breakfast' makes you wanna stand up and jo jumping everywhwre because of it's oh-so-happy-melody, another one that I l8iked a lot is 'omega blue' out of this world, stuck in you head melody that have chants and has a very nice bridge part. Another one I recommend also is time to die, cause the first time I listened to it, I was like oh-my-god. It starts in a very peaceful way and gives you the idea of lying somewhere confortable while feeling life drain out of you, like everything coming to an end. I thought 'Okay, it's slow, but come on, it's time to die, maybe the person is laying somewhere' the voices from the back makes you feel weird and then, it comes the strong part, like someone else said here, funky. That's not so funky, but it's very energetic, I listened to that part and all I could think about was 'run, thy're after you', it was a persecution part. Going to the vocals, Sakamoto has a wonderful voice, I've listened to her in wolf rain and I was like, 'Oh, I love this voice!' It sent shivers down my spine (really) they make you feel happy, like you can do anything. To end this review, I recommed people to see Arjuna, It's a very strange but still incredible anime. Arjuna's head is really out of this world.

If you collect Yoko Kanno music then you might buy this one. From its infancy, the tracks meld from loneliness to chaos to conflict to loneliness. The vocals save this work from the ashcan though. How's that deodorant commercial go? But I bought it just 'cause.

I wasn't impressed with Arjuna's soundtrack at my first listening... (Mind you that I haven't seen a single episode of Arjuna)... I thought the sounds were too weird compared to Escaflowne or Cowboy Bebop (which I truly love)... But to appreciate Yoko Kanno is to know the theme she's aiming for in the anime... So I listened to this CD once more with open ears (which is usually the case with Yoko Kanno... She creates BGM music most of the time, so usually I find that it takes about a second or third hearing of the OST to really appreciate it)...

1. Early Bird - Calm and peaceful piece sung by a girl (or a boy; can't tell)... It sounds like an out-of-this-world language--typical Yoko Kanno...

2. Awakening - I like the chanting here... Very ominous and feels like a dungeon music...

3. Clóe - My favourite peice in this soundtrack along with Mameshiba (track 18)... This song is just amazing... A must hear!... It's fascinating how Yoko Kanno was able to realize that a child singing this particular tune can make this piece 100x better; 'cuz I think it won't be as good if it's played instrumentally... Also, the harp (I think) and piano helps with the singing...

4. Time To Die - A dark song indeed... The song gets funky by the end when the electric guitar starts playing...

5. 2nd Life - Another great guitar track... Very folk-like yet modern...

6. Diving - The beginning and end seems like normal nonsense chanting... But it's probably an out-of-this-world lyrics yet again... Then there's nice guitar chords with a Spanish feel to it in the middle of the song...

7. Clone - A lot of people hate this one... I don't think they realize that the song really does make you think of clones (well at least for me)... I picture out-of-control clones while listening to this piece... Thus, I like it!...

8. Feel The Circle - A quaint yet forboding music box music with some strings blending nicely...

9. Aerobics - Nice electric guitar music... Reminds me of a car commercial of some sort... (hehe... and kinda catchy)

10. Omega Blue - This track wasn't in my listening taste for a long time... But now, it's really becoming quite a favourite Arjuna track of mine...

11. Drop Of Time - Another out-of-this-world lyric'd song... Quite short, really...

12. Earth Resonance - This piece I like... Sounds like an empowering song with some nice singing (no words)...

13. Prophet - Chanting... At first, the chanting doesn't seem to go anywhere; but there's some singing to this one...

14. Before Breakfast - Wow... A troubadour-like music with some woodwinds, fiddle, and guitar strumming... Reminds me of movies about the Middle Ages (HA!... But "ELM" from Cowboy Bebop IMO is a better troubadour-like music)...

15. Bells For Her - A peaceful yet sad piano and violin piece... I like how this piece ends...

16. Motorcycle - A Maaya Sakamoto song with a midnight club feel to it (did that just made sense?!?!)... The BGM to this song really feels like you're riding a motorcycle too... It gets better and better once while listenting to it IMO...

17. Diamond - I love this piano piece... It's simple yet it's very catchy...

18. Mameshiba - This is a great song sung by Maaya Sakamoto... It starts with guitar strums then drums... The best part of the song IMO is the bridge and the chorus of the song!...

19. Kookie - A girl (or guy, yet again) singing in the same "weird" lyrics as most of the tracks in this OST... Quite short too...

20. Aqua - "Weird" lyrics that reminds me of a certain Macross Plus piece... The chorus is the best part of the track...

21. Mameshiba (instrumental verson) - A hidden track... First time I heard this piece, I thought it sounded familiar... This is basically a piano and strings version of Mameshiba's chorus... It's very nicely done and sounds somewhat original in it's own way...

Phenomenal.......2004-08-19

I've been fan of Yoko Kanno for some time now, and I know that she is amazing. But when I first heard this album I was completely blown away.
Many of the tracks are very 'tribal' sounding and use Kanno's strange unique language for flavour. It also features a couple songs by the lovely Maaya Sakamoto.
This OST is a must for anyone and everyone.

One of the best bands of all time. Richie sings like an angel. Musicianship is beyond exceptional. I've only been into this band for about a year and a half but they have quickly made their way towards the top of my list of favorite bands. This cd and all their other releases are must haves.

I have owned this CD since it arrived one earth in the early 90's. I pretty much liked anything I heard on Revelation Records from that time period, but I had no idea what I was getting into when I picked this one up. I see some reviews stating that this is post-hardcore, or where hardcore meets metal. I have to say, this is nothing but pure metal. There is no hardcore or punk in any of these tracks. The members may have been in various hardcore bands at one point, but this is a totally different beast.

The music rides the rails between Powerslave era Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. The guitarist is pretty amazing and isnt afraid to flex his musical chops, throwing little flourishes and solos all over the track. The bassist is very good and locks in with the drummer to bring some great heavy moments to the forefront. And Richie....Richie sings with a greater vocal range then either Axl Rose or Robert Plant. Man, he can wail. He can be at once gruff and angry and then let out a piercing falsetto that would make many an early power metal band jealous.

Classic tracks on this album are of course the opener "Underlord" with its dark imagery (very cheesy, but if you cant laugh, than you should look elsewhere) "Powered", and the one-two punch closers "As It Were" with its awesome groove, and "Dare Me" with more cheesy lyrics.

So, all in all, great record, amazing riffs, awesome vocals, very cheesy lyrics, but fun too, and they fit the music very well. I sometimes wonder if he was being serious on some of this material, as they definitely seem to have gotten more serious with later releases. And if you like this stuff, quickly go pick up the Creepy Eepy EP with 4 more great songs on it. "I'll Be Damned" and "The Other" are easily two of their best.

the production hampers this one from being as great as their Seemless and Ignaurus albums, but there are some good songs on here. Most noteably the last two songs "As It Were" and "Dare Me" which contain a confident stride and show a strong sense of dynamics in their songwriting. also the acoustic classical guitar strum of "For Lack Of A Better World" is very nice. this album is probably not the best place for newcomers of Into Another to begin their search, but a nice addition for fans of the band.

Good Album........2004-08-15

It really should be four and a half but four stars wouldn't do it justice. The production isn't up to par with the next three releases but it doesn't stop the album from being good. Splinters is a great song and Apalindrome has an interesting Tribal feel to it. Not much else to say about it. Buy it if you like Post-Hardcore meets Classic Metal.

Yes, hardcore meets early '90s heavy metal meets the emerging "alternative" scene with Into Another. Richie from Underdog provides great vocals with guitar solos & metal crunching.

I was *really* into this album when it came out, and loved their live show, but listening to it now it sounds dated. Its an interesting amalgam of sounds that were popular in the early '90s.

compelling alternative heavy metal.......2005-10-24

Into Another were an interesting group of talented musicians who made some pretty powerful music. there are alot of different styles and elements in the mix here, most noticeably heavy metal and alternative rock. the rhythms have a strong groove (possibly similiar to early Soundgarden) and the guitarist sounds like he grew up listening to alot of Maiden and Dio...wihch is never a bad thing, in my opinion. where most singers can belt out their band's songs with passion and intensity, no one could do it quite like Into Another's singer Richie Birkenhead. his pipes are powerful and strong and he sings with a varied range and a profound passion that is inspiring. it should be noted that his voice is a bit of an aquired taste, on the softer side of things, he has a smooth velvety croon. but on the more racious numbers, he sometimes sounds a bit like Axl Rose...also, not a bad thing, in my opinion. his lyrics are truly exceptional and unique. he touches on various social issues and analyzes the many differences between one another, almost like an alien discussing the human race. he also interjects lots of personal experiences in his words such as in the touching album closer "The Way Down" where he sings: "Never picked for schoolyard games, I was the child pariah you laughed at when my eyes betrayed the fact that i was sad. Although i tried so hard to fall into place and keep a confident smile on my face." sounds like confessions of a dysfunctional childhood...but it works because it not overly sappy and doesn't sound like he's venting just for the sake of unloading his angst on the listener. Into Another had been around for a few years before releasing Seemless (their major label debut and, sadly, their final record), and they only seemed to achieve acclaim in small circles. they were a hard band to catagorize and therefore, had a limited appeal. but for those of us who understood this band, they were a real musical gift whose brilliant music will always be cherished.

Tail......classic song.......2005-07-07

I hadnt heard this song in about 10 years since I used to hear it on WSOU. Just heard it the other day on the Music Channel, and man it brought back memories of my teenage years. This song is unbelievable, so I just bought the whole dam CD even though I just downloaded it off of Limewire since Kazaa and Morpheus didnt have it......Unbelievable song though. Metal heads if you havent heard it, hear it. If you havent heard it in a long time like me than def take another listen!! once again great song!!

Into Another is Smooooth.......2001-03-18

This is one of the most relaxing, passionate alterna-rock/indie/punk records I own. It's absolutely an essential, if you can track it down. There is just something about this band- mellow and desperate at the same time. I normally don't like anything that could be cast under the rock heading but... just wow.

Worth A Listen.......2000-06-27

This album 'Into Another' is very good. It has great songs like 'Mutate Me'. It is definately worth gettin to any rock/alternative/punk fans. It is strong album supported by a strong band who should be better known. Seemless, are definately a band to talk about, and has great songs which you will remeber. BUY THIS ALBUM!

What I like about this EP is that it has a very underground production sound like it came from some club. This band is some kind of post/alternative metal band considering that the late TONY BONO came from the 80's thrash metal band WHIPLASH but you will not hear that influence this band - must have been Tony's alter-ego.

Anyway, this band is unique (maybe a little similarity to TOOL)and I find my self liking this band each time I listen - they just grow on you after a while.

Amazing.......2004-08-15

Four songs, 21 minutes. This EP showed how broad Into Another's musical scope was. Post-Harcore, Progressive Rock, Heavy Metal all in one. There is even a beautiful acoustic track about Richie's deceased friend. Peter Moses shines on this album, using odd chord voicings, strange chord progressions and Iron Maidenesque solos he leads this album. Tony Bono (rip) is no slouch either, his fluid basslines stand out going against the guitar and his tone is strong. All of the songs are wonderful even if the Bass/Drum duel in Absolute Zero can drag. This band had potential.

Only four songs but without a doubt, worthy of 5 stars. Into Another ranks just about #1 on my list, these guys knew how to rock. Every song is very different especially Without a Medium: a slower song written about a friend of Richies that passed away. And Absolute Zero, which resonates like a journey outside of earth. Richie's scream in the first seconds of I'll be Damned is hauntingly beautiful. They are not for everyone but if you listen with an open mind then you might get a taste of the magic captured on ALL IA records.

I first heard this on vinyl when some people I met in college were playing this in their dorm rooom. I must say that this album really rocks. It combines the simplicity of a garage band with the rocking guitars of metal! Listen to the sound bytes and see what you think. These guys really have a great sound.
