One of the most underated bands ever!.......2007-07-15
Excellent Excellent CD!!!
One of the best sounding guitars that you'll ever hear.
you're a fool if you don't buy this CD. If you don't love it after you buy it, you're a moron and I don't feel a bit sorry for you.
great.......2007-07-04
its just as i remembered it outstanding cd. too bad after the 2nd cd they went pop this band had alot of potential.great cd
Mandatory Metal.......2007-05-23
*heavyyyyyyy chains*, this album rocks. Akira is a guitar god, this band is Japan's version of early Van Halen. If you are looking for all things 80's metal then this album is Mandatory Metal. Riffs, hooks, shred it's all there!!!
Surprise, Surprise.......2007-01-14
So, there I was, in Frankfurt, Germany, thumbing though some used cd's at the weekly Saturday flea market. I'd picked out some Satriani, Uli Jon Roth and an import Van Halen. The vendor pulled this album out and recommended I also buy it. I'd never heard of them and at first turned him down. Then he offered it to me for just one Euro. I figured that even if it sucked, then at least I had the other five disks that I knew would be worth the ten total Euro I'd spent. WOW!!! What a great album! I'd never even heard of these guys, but I'm going to look into getting more albums. Akira Takasaki can shred along with the likes of Eddie Van Halan and George Lynch. Stand out songs are Clockwork Toys and Never Change Your Mind. The production quality is a bit low. But this album is about 22 years old. A re-release would be cool, but this does just fine. If you like early Van Halen, Cinderella, Dokken, then you'll probably dig these guys, too.
These guys can PLAY!.......2006-09-28
Loudness was unfairly lumped in with all the '80s so-called "hair-metal" bands because of their look (probably due more to mis-management than actual personal styles), and unfortunately that label seemed to have stuck with them, despite the release of 4 brilliant CDs, this one being the first Major Label American release. Led by the "Oh yeah Yngwie? Check THIS out!" guitar work of Akira Takasaki, Loudness was a band of guys who could PLAY, not pose. Yes, the lyrics are fairly simple and sometimes juvenile, but I don't remember anyone else writing anything considered prose at the time either. Especially if you are a guitar player, this CD is a must have. Try to see whether or not you can match up with the straight picked solo in "Clockwork Toy" and then call this mediocre. I don't think so.

GREAT RIFFS, GREAT CD.......2006-04-07
first off, I want to say I have no problem with Minoru Nihara's vocals, be they in English or Japanese. That experiment with vocalist Mike Vescera on vocals, for me, was a waste of time. A cheap attempt to Americanize the band. These guys are Japanese, take it or leave it. I decided to take it and have been a long time fan of this great rock band. This CD is chockful of great riffs and some wicked guitar playing. Akira Takasaki is a guitarist to be reckoned with. I have had the good fortune of seeing this band twice and have no problem recommending the CD if you want some solid rock music and great riffs. These guys can play, period!

A turgid swamp of a record.......2006-02-16
My opening line may be a bit harsh after all it was in early to mid 80's but this dross is truly dull. Dull songs that wander along, I dunno - I'm writing this review based on the original recording I own since I'm not dense enough to lay out more cash for this thing. I was able to pick it up for just a few dollars at some 2nd hand store and darn glad I didn't pay more.
Lets get to specifics shall we. There are some good riffs. So that section of the album is OK. And at the time the band did tour Europe etc and really try to get a wriggle on, cruising around with the likes of Saxon (if memory serves). One drama was the difficulty some western mags had with trying to interview the guys in the band, though that's more of an explanation why they at times had trouble finding a western fan base than actually anything to do with the music.
So lets back to the music. If you could wipe the vocals out of the mix and put in a guy who could actually either sing or scream then you'd be off to a flying start. In fact the allegations by some reviewers at the time who couldn't figure out why they changed to Michael Vescera left me dumbfounded. I dare anyone to listen to the vocals on this album and not be reminded of an annoying small dog. With a Japanese accent. I mean really, if this was the guys ability level they should of sung in Japanese and confined themselves to their home market. Two stars for my mind, given that some of the music isn't bad.
SSSoooooo underated!!.......2005-09-01
One of the best albums by an underated band!!!
Akira's tone is so awesome on this!!
BUY!!BUY!!BUY!!
Thunderstruck !.......2005-08-28
I actually worked with this band on their first U.S. Tour. Since my Japanese is fluent, I spent a lot of time with them. I love this album. Loudness is a great metal experience. Every song rocks. I especially like "Crazy Nights" and "Like Hell." Also check out such Japanese releases as "Law of the Devil's Land" and "Disillusion." I hope more of their work gets remastered as they were one of the best metal groups of the era.
LOUDNESS/Thunder in the East - Remastered.......2005-02-20
This is Loudness' 5th album (released in 1985), and my personal favorite. The music takes a lean to popular-rock when compared to Disillusion, but Akira Takasaki dispells any notion of selling-out with his performance throughout the album. This 24-bit remastered release includes two extra tracks: 'Gotta Fight' and 'Odin' (what happened to 'Flash out', which was part of the same EP these extra tunes came from?!?) -- these bonus tracks are great, and make the purchase worthwhile. I've jammed through the entire album many times, but 'Crazy Nights', 'Heavy Chains' and 'We Could Be Together' are my favorites from the original release.

Japanese pop metal.......2004-11-24
This 1985 album was the first real breakthrough for Loudness in America. It was a total gamble. So, producer Max Norman (as he always did in those times) made them change their sound and become "hair-metal" - with all the package: make-up, outrageous clothing, reverb drums, etc, etc. THe final result was not a bad album at all, but, at its best, it sounds like just a pedestrian metal album filled with weak pop metal songs who serve only one purpose: make room for the magnificent solos of Akira Takasaki, a genial guitarist with feeling and melody. It's a shame that LOUDNESS sold out, but, hey, they were only listening to their managers...
Japan's Apology For Pearl Harbor.......2004-03-31
I was listening to this album with Johnny 5 while we were hang gliding and whacking crapheads with my massive bone material
If you are a fan of 80's Heavy Metal, you will like this.......2003-08-08
For those fans of 80's Heavy Metal, you will like this album. Akira Takasaki is agurably one of the best guitarists of all time!
A MUST OWN for all 80's metal fans..........2003-07-28
This is one of my favorite metal albums ever. The guitar riffs are incredible, and this extremely underrated band is tight as it gets. Some really catchy tunes, and [an awsome] lead singer. Add this one to your metal collection.
Great album from an underrated band!.......2003-06-27
This is the classic Loudness for US fans. It rocks, the melodies and riffs are great. From Crazy Nights to We should be together the crunching sounds never stop. Get it NOW if you are a metal head!

GREAT CD!!!!.......2003-05-12
This guy ROCKS! This isn't some guy playing along to a drum machine, this guy plays EVERYTHING himself. REAL drums, guitars, keys, bass & the vocals remind me of Klaus Meiner from the Scorpions and Don Dokken. Why this guy isn't huge still baffles me!

Five plus and climbing means new high in listening pleasure!!!.......2007-07-27
For the cynics out there, please allow me to set the record straight; I am not a family member and I am not being paid to write these reviews. Phil Vincent gives new meaning to the word prolific with this his 5th CD in 3 years but what is particularly striking is the absolute quality of each release on offer and it continues to climb to new heights on this one. Just when I didn't think Phil could write a better batch of songs, I slip this one on again and I realize he sets a new record for consistency of quality with this one. There are 11 new reasons why I love the music that this one individual is able to create by himself. What is amazing is that Phil apparently has an uncanny ability to put the right melody and just the right hook in the right place every time, it is absolutely remarkable. Friend or Foe starts this one off with a perfect song, and it just keeps ascending from there. When Love is gone is another perfect song if you love melodic rock as is Guilty and Eye to Eye. As one song gives way to the next you realize Phil outdoes himself every time out. Just when you think you have heard the best song, BANG another highlight. The perfect keyboard intro, just the right guitar solo, a perfect bridge or some other vocal hook in the chorus. These songs have it all and then some. As with Calm before the Storm it is hard to pick a favorite because the songs are all that good. Give this disc a try if you love melodic hard rock with metal flourishes, you will be so glad you spent an hour on it!!
