Poser lead singer.......2006-10-01

I bought this album way back when. I didnt know there was a lead singer change. Well I hated this Poser. The music may have been great but he spoiled it for me.

great album akira seem to simplfy his rhythme work on this but his tone,solos are amazing. the addition of mike was a greatchange wish it would have happened sooner

Best Loudness Album!!!.......2006-08-22

This is their best work - hands down. Great songwriting with Outstanding guitar, drums and bass!! Unbelievable vocals by American singer Mike Vescera. You can feel the energy between all members with Mike being the new change to the band. No filler, just great metal!!

A searing release - Loudness hits the spot.......2006-02-16

Wow. This was my intro to this band I'd only heard underground rumblings about. This album can be listened to from one end to the other. The searing class of the guitar playing. How this wasn't huge can only be down to a few reasons - a) bad luck or b) poor management or c) the band not being American. My guess is C given that even in 2005 one foreign band was told by their american record company "why would we want bands from overseas when we have our own bands" (not to mention any names).

I'd love to sit here and talk about each track but your better off just buying this album and enjoying it. Michael Vescera is in top form, nobody can accuse him of not trying to make this work - at least in the studio. One track I must mention is Demon Disease. Listen to the damn lyrics. Foreboding but uplifting and that's not an easy line to walk. Not to mention that by the time this album is over you need something emotional to let you down from the blast you've just experienced.

Alas the band didn't hit this high very often, I've reviewed a couple of their other albums for anyone who'd like to check out my thoughts on some of their other releases.

Superb Operetta Collection.......2006-09-12

Surely this must be the finest collection of songs in Enlgish from operettas and early 20th century musicals available anywhere. Marilyn Hill Smith is in fine voice and is admirably partnered by baritone Peter Morrison. This two CD collection is truly a 'treasure.' It belongs in the collection of any English speaking lover of operetta.

March Gems from Both Sides of the Atlantic.......2003-06-01

Although most listeners will probably recognize only a couple of selections from this album, there is much worth listening to here, in my opinion, mostly in the area of military/patriotic marches.

As would be expected in an album played by various British military bands, marches written for various parts of the British armed forces are well represented. Included are "Bond of Friendship" (Coldsteam Guards), "The 3 D.G.'s" (3rd Dragoon Guards), "Fortune Favors the Bold" (Allied Forces Rapid Reaction Corps), "Salamanca", "Queen's Division", "Quickest and Best", "Battleaxe Company", "Swift and Sure" (Royal Corps of Signals), "Blow Away the Morning Dew" (Kneller Hall), "Ship to Shore" (Maritime Division of the Royal Corps of Transport), "Agrippa", "First Post", and "Pride of Lions" (Adjutant General's Corps). Another British march, written in a lighter style, "Cockney Cocktail", incorporates several themes associated with London.

Mainland Europe is represented by a couple of marches written by German composers, one in a British style, "Viscount Nelson", by Wilhelm Zehle, and the more traditonal "Regimentgruss", by Steinbeck. A Russian flavor is also present with "Red Square Review".

North American marches include two Sousa favorites, and one that is not so well known. "Washington Post" was written for the newspaper of the same name, and was one of the most popular pieces used to dance to in the 1890s. "El Capitan" was taken from Sousa's most popular operetta, and was played by the Sousa Band one of the few times they actually marched, in this case in the victory parade for Admiral Dewey in New York City after the Spanish American War. "The Rifle Regiment" is less well known, and was written for the "Old Guard" (3rd U. S. Infantry at Fort Myer, Va., the oldest U. S. Infantry unit in active service). One of Edwin Franco Goldman's best, "Chimes of Liberty", is also featured, and the rare Canadian march, "Marche Vanier", and finally the equally rare march by an Afro-American, "St. Louis Blues March", by the great W. C. Handy, which was popularized by the equally great Glenn Miller.

A fine addition to any march collection.

Not terrible, but NOT their best.......2005-04-27

By this album, Loudness had (sadly) parted ways with original singer Minoru Niihara, making this one with Metal Church singer Mike Vescera. The net result is a Japanese band with an attempt at an an American accent. What it really means is, the band wanted to remake their original American album, Thunder in the East.

Vescera does bear a (very!) distant sonic resemblance to Niihara, but with less charm and more pierciing screams. The band is still great, as always, but the vocals don't really... well,... "fit right". It would be like, say, Rob Halford singing in Dokken.

Sadly, by this point America was losing interest in this great band. I'm glad that the original lineup is back together and ready to blow the roofs off clubs all over-- but this album sank the band's career in AQmerica.

To Those Who Don't Know Real Metal: Please Shut Up!.......2002-12-26

For the uninformed, the junk called 'Nu Metal' today has caused a backlash of sorts in the live rock clubs, and has revived the metal of the 80's and early 90's. I'm a guitarist in a *working* metal band who is enjoying this surge and I must say I don't understand the bashing of this disc from some of the previous reviewers. From a strictly musical POV 'Soldier Of Fortune' is first rate; from Akira's guitars to Mike's vocals, the bass, drums, lyrics, engineering, production, composition, etc. all are AAA+. I **highly** recommend 'Soldier Of Fortune' because it simply **rocks**.

Even wrost than HURRICANE EYES... It's amazing. LAW OF THE DEVIL'S LAND, still sung in Japanese, was fantastic. This one here is totally forgetable. Even KISS without make-up is better than this!!

ANother misfire by LOUDNESS. With "rent-a-singer" MIke Vescera, they released another silly metal album, another one to be forgotten amidst the terrible glam wave that helped metal to almos die in the beginning of the nineties !!!
