No Fistful of Ennio.......2007-01-31
Ennio Morricone wrote great soundtrack music, that's for certain. But no retrospective of his work is complete without the inclusion of more than one lone example from the three mid-60's "spaghetti westerns" he scored for Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. Anyone familiar with the UNITED ARTISTS label LPs of "Fistful Of Dollars," "For A Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" might agree with this.
As for what's here-- most of ENNIO MORRICONE * FILM MUSIC Volume 1 is forgettable incidental stuff. Except for "The Battle Of Algiers (Theme)," the opening and closing tracks are the best. They bookend what turns out to be a disappointing collection, lacking in both liner notes and the brilliance Morricone demonstrated over a 30 year span.
I would call some of these pieces "newage"..........2006-08-02
Moscow Farewell is definitely my pick of the lot. Sacco And Vanzetti was a pleasant surprise once I listened to it a couple of times. It is lively and could be played on a wedding dance floor for the whole family. This is great album to listen to while in bed!
Simply a 'Must Purchase' for those with a passing interest in Morricone's work.......2005-09-13
Arguably one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Film composer of the 20th Century. Not only has he scored some of the most influential and instantly recognisable pieces of film music during his roughly 50 years of composing atmospheric film scores. Whether he's providing the spooky dramatics for a spaghetti Western" or constructing the ingenious use of classical arrangements of brooding cinematic pieces, he has (in most cases) consistently delivered contemporary music that has provided the atmospheric foil for the picture in question. And with a collection of musical influences that were as far ranging as: classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, avant-garde, and Italian music, he is able to deliver a variety of film scores that are as diverse as they are beautifully composed.
This compilation is collection of some of the seminal, gritty, theatrical, and dramatic film music, that would go on to define his career, via reflective orchestration and memorable motifs, ingenious use of diverse arrangements and instrumentation. There is a majority of his highlights on this disc, with the magnificently brooding "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" opening the disk. what follows is a truly sublime collection of music that is in parts truly beautiful and utterly atmospheric, so tracks such as "Once Upon A Time In The West", benefit from the haunting melodies and stirring volins, that are possibly more in tone with orchestrated music than contemporary music. Or the quiet piano introspection and melancholic arrangements that make up "Moscow Farewell", are simply deserving of being placed amongst the finest soundtrack compositions ever. "Dedicace", contains some of the most litting melodies in recent memory, impossibly sad and affecting, it is a haunting bittersweet composition that is both organic & reflective, over which the volins provide the musical backdrop. And that's without the mention of "For Love One Can Die", the autumnal orchestrated track, that pulls from Italian sweeping gangster original film scores, and makes a hushed and dissonant recording, that feels like a sublime throwback to the mafia-related shenanigans of 60's chicago via the use of restrained piano, that really is quite lovely and adds substantial weight to the composition.
If you are looking for a Ennio Morricone compilation....short of buying a boxset, you'd be hard pressed in beating this for value for money. It's a fantastic summary of his work and covers a fair amount of material. And is the perfect introduction to his work, (especially if you just want to buy one compilation of his work). This is highly recommended to fans both old and new, and is boosted by the compilers making a great job of the selection. So if you don't want to have to splash out on an expensive disk, to hear his influential work...this really is the first place you should start.
ENNIO MORRICONE - FILM MUSIC, VOL. 1 .......2005-08-16
HAVING HEARD EXERPTS OF THE MUSIC BEFORE, IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I
WANTED.
A collection of Morricone's most popular and entertaining.......2005-07-31
Volume I of III, of this 'best of' Morricone trilogy, is the best of the three. This volume consists of music that can be listened to alone and socially, with some of the most catchy and minimalist rhythms you'll ever hear. You'll listen to this album and wonder what movie you've heard that song from before(Morricone's canon being primarily for film scores). If you're hear because you're trying to get the song from a movie, and you've never really heard of Morricone before, then you've luckily stumbled upon some of the best music I've ever heard. Or, if you're a Morricone fan and you'er looking for a good compilation, since Morricone has done too many film scores to even possibly own them all, then this is good to have. I wouldn't really reccommend Volume II and III unless you're looking or a very comprehensive collection of Morricone, since Volume I seems to me to carry his most absolute best. Definetely buy this album, it's very good.

The let's-get-our-act-together album........2007-03-18
Being the second HIM album I have ever listened to, it had been the most disappointing one, but that was before I met this album's predecessor, and after that, I think I could come up with aobjective assessment of how HIM has progressed into this.
First off, this isn't your gothic/romantic rock/metal album. This is something entirely different. It has fast-paced songs with heart-wrenching choruses, atmospheric keyboards, a mixture of acoustic and electric guitars and good solos. Lyrically, it can't rival Razorblade Romance or Greatest Lovesongs, but overall it is great. These were the upsides.
Now, onto the downsides of this album. I don't know what exactly Ville Valo found wrong with the voice he used in the first two albums of HIM, but his new voice is certainly a downside, because it makes the album sound like it had been sung by a thirteen year old kid who was somehow let into the band; not at all good. The second downside is that, this album also marks HIM's growing obsession with making riffs sound almost overrated. The overall fluffy and crunchy guitar riffs do have certain strong points, but, like in "This Fortress of Tears", they sometimes are unnecessary. The third downside is the final song, "The Path", the unnecessarily stretched out meant-to-be epic. A two-to-three minutes cut out from this closer could make it amazing, but it just soars below average, and brings the album to a bad end. The fourth downside is the placement of "Soul on Fire"; while it is a great song, after "Sweet Pandemonium", it shifts the mood too far away, and you can't help but laugh out loud after you are done with your shock. Last but not least, the album's overall sound carries a hint of, "Well, we did great stuff, but we want to put some of Deep Shadows stuff into this too, so let's create a mixture of Razorblade, Greatest Lovesongs and Deep Shadows in this!". And this approach doesn't help the album, it feels somewhat out of place.
Overall, this is the only interruption of the downward spiral HIM has gotten into after and with Deep Shadows, but it is a good album and is among this band's top three. I'd highly recommend it for those that have a taste for somewhat gothic and rocky albums.
True definition of Music.......2006-11-10
HIM defines music in a way no other band can ever hope to achieve. This album was and is one I listen to a lot. Most music today is either pop fluff or rap agony. I want music that gets my blood pumping and prepares me for another day at work.
i've tried them, but this is just misserable music........2006-07-30
Ive listened to tracks from various albums and don't see why people like them. I mean, the vocalist always sounds like he's singing with a cold and I can't see anything spectacular with the instruments.
Even though I havn't given them much on stars, i'm giving them the one there because I see potential, I don't mind the "Wings of a Butterfly" song because it's a bit dark and has a catchy riff. But I'll have to be convinced to change my views.
Ville Valo-the poet.......2006-06-12
This is the last HIM cd to finish my collection and what a way to finish it. Another great solid album from HIM, not one bad song on the whole album. If you like HIM and dont have this album you have no time to waste. I cant say this enough Ville Valo is a great poet!!!!! HIM is the best band ever period
Love Metal by HIM.......2006-05-26
Plain and simple, this is HIM's greatest album ever!!!! I simply LOVE every song on this entire album. And don't let the number of tracks mislead you. The album is just seven minutes short of an hour! The shortest song is Soul on Fire at 4:02. BUY THIS ALBUM,IT'S TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!

Album Description
And Love Said No: Greatest Hits 1997-2004 is a digitally remastered anthology celebrating
HIM's first decade together with an updated selection of the band's biggest hits.
HIM recorded two new songs for this set, the title track and a rocking cover of Neil Diamond's classic "Solitary Man."
Customer Reviews:
Essential for any HIM fan.......2007-06-08
I absolutely fell in love with HIM last fall when my friend "introduced" the music to me. It took a few weeks, but by now they are my favorite band by far. I can't get enough of the songs on this compilation. The newest cover, "Solitary Man" adds everything that Neil Diamond didn't do when it was originally written; I even let me parents listen to the cover and they think that its great.
I have recommended this compilation to all of my friends, and several of them have either started listening to HIM little by little thereafter or have simply fallen in love with the band. I could not have been happier with this compilation and am looking forward to the rest of HIM's career as well as the July release of Venus Doom.
When Love and Cheese Embrace.......2007-05-16
This three year-old European compilation was just released in the States, and it provides a handy overview of HIM's homegrown Scandinavian love metal, which can be of interest to rock fans on the prowl for new sounds but who don't feel like diving into the proper albums. However, this collection of singles washes out the already miniscule creativity and excitement of the proper HIM albums. Ville Valo's goth romance is surely unique, but the band's musical backdrop rarely rises above slick and professional 80s arena metal. Nobody in the band except Valo makes an impression on the listener, and the performances are so polished and overproduced that no real advancement or growth can be detected in this collection, even though the tracks were recorded over a period of seven years and four studio albums. Bland riffs and uninspired rhythms are often unsuccessfully spruced up with annoying piano or keyboard squiggles, as in "Join Me in Death," "Heartache Every Moment," and "When Love and Death Embrace," and weak guitar solos almost always mimic the vocal melodies from the verses. Even worse, the band's awful ballads such as "Gone with the Sin" and "Close to the Flame" would induce the gag reflexes of even the most jaded hair metal swooners. This is all a shame because the band really can rock out when they feel like it, as in "Buried Alive by Love," "Right Here in My Arms," and their best-ever track "Your Sweet Six Six Six," indicating that the proper HIM albums should be explored for true love metal treasures. Granted, HIM are of interest due to the distinct outlook and intriguing personality of Ville Valo, but this collection does little to enhance the band's unimpressive chops. [~doomsdayer520~]

Angèle Dubeau is a remarkable violinist, and here, she and her all-woman, 12-strong (including herself) group, La Pieta, tackle some of the showiest---and most interesting---virtuoso pieces composed or transposed for solo violin and strings, in various combinations, and occasionally featuring a piano. The violin tone at the start of Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre has a warmth which stays with us throughout the disc, despite the fact that so many of the pieces are razzle-dazzle. Hearing the delicious can-can from the overture to Orpheus in the Underworld so thrillingly played, with as much emphasis on the piano as the violin, is a treat, and the "Fire dance" from El amor brujo positively throbs. There's great skill---even daring---in the Tartini "Devil's Trill" sonata and a Boccherini Sonata, but the string tone never turns strident. And as a complete surprise, Dubeau and her group offer an arrangement of The Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black" which teases and riffs before getting into the melody, then plays it in the lower reaches of the instrument, and is then joined by the piano, allowing it to reach upwards and jazzily improvise---and then she throws in a moment or two of "Sympathy for the Devil" (!) before it concludes with the original melody. There are other joys on this CD as well---this is not your everyday violin bon-bon recital. It's all highly recommended. --Robert Levine
Album Description
This mischievious recital celebrates works inspired by the Devil: from Tartini's Devil's Trill, written after the composer dreamt that he had sold his soul to the Devil, to the infernal whirlwinds of Saint-Saën's Danse Macabre and Dompierre's Les Beautés du diable, composed specifically for La Pietà. It also pays homage to Paganini, the famed violinist who once confided to a friend that the Devil led him by the hand. This program shows an impish sense of humor as well... it features a unique arrangement of The Rolling Stones' Paint it Black and Sympathy for the Devil! Angèle Dubeau is one of Canada's most prominent recording artists. belonging to the exclusive group of Canadian classical soloists who can boast of having attained "gold" sales status. She is also the founder and director La Pietá. This CD is packaged with a bonus DVD featuring video clips and live concert excerpts.
Customer Reviews:
FABULOUS!.......2007-02-15
I ADORE this CD. I first heard it on the local classical music station and my ears picked right up. "What IS that?" It was so alive, so vibrant. The station only plays it about once a year, but each time it catches my attention. "Ah, that's Angele Dubeau." The selections are a mix of new and old. Two of the new pieces are by Francois Dompierre; his "Le Diable matou" is one of my favorites. I play this CD over and over and over...
I disagree with the reviewer who said you must love violin music to enjoy this. I do enjoy the violin, but I think the CD's power and reach go far beyond violin lovers.
The CD also includes a DVD of concert excerpts.
Give this CD a try. I'm so glad I did.
Eduardo Carlos Leon.......2007-02-01
The sound is tight and fresh. But take heed--only a person who love`s violin works would enjoy this c-d.And i would be one of those persons.ESP.Hot Women with violins!!!
Unique and pleasant........2006-12-23
It is refreshing to hear something new. The tracks are old favorites but the sound is new. Different. And in a good way.
Not the same old interpretations sped up or slowed down. But a genuine new groove down a familiar road.
She is a great violinist and has a knack for interplay with the rest of the band. It's not a flashy highly technical performance like you may expect from Perlman or Mutter. But not on the emotional ragged edge like Sonnenberg. But something in between with a new twist.
Emotional, Powerful, Fizzy.......2005-05-19
Long a stodgy devotee of baroque music, with the first few notes of this strong stuff I became an addict. Over and over again I play this CD, never quite anticipating the power and emotional bang of the music as it plays - even though I know the notes by now. If you ever studied Walter Piston's "harmony" the structures and transitions are back-of-the-book stuff, but the push is all elemental, basic, built-in, the familiar 1-4-5 with musical sequins, trampolines, backflips, and gelginite. Wow. And then some.
I'm so besotted, I had a couple of 13-year old boys (my son and a friend) listen to it in the car one day. They were bug-eyed after a couple of cuts, and not with horror. Now they ask for it, and yell with glee when the musical tension breaks over their heads in crashing chords.
Can I add a few more stars?
Infernal Violins.......2004-04-12
This music is fantastic. Because the violin she uses is a Stradovarius, the music pours like liquid velvet out of it. The choices of compositions are fantastic also. I think her interpretation of them along with the violin and her back-up group are what make this album so outstanding.

Good job.......2005-08-26
I remember when I was little, I had this cd, but i lost it. I bought a similiar type of one through TIme Life and decided to try the Classical Thunder one. I have like it so far.
Masterful!.......2005-06-15
This two CD set is magnificent. I got the set in the early 1990's when it was advertised on television, along with other releases in Time Life's set. I was struck by the interpretations of the conductors. Whenever I hear these pieces now, I judge them against this recording. Amazing selection as well. There are staples of orchestra repetoire, like Beethoven symphonies, but also gems that are not heard very often, like the Rimsky-Korsakov "Procession of the Nobles." A very impressive recording.
Great CD of Classical music's power pieces!.......2005-06-07
I got this CD when I was around 16 because I loved a lot of the music on this double CD set. As a student pursuing a Music Education major, it has been a great asset for my musically, and just great for listening to. I will drive on short trips and take this with me and blast it louder than the guy in the next car blasting rap music. I also take it skiing as it sets a great tempo down the mountain. This is a great CD for anyone that loves music.

not worth a dollar.......2007-05-09
this is probably one of the worst dance albums i've ever bought.
the woman's voice is so grating. if they got someone to do decent vocals, it wouldn't be half bad.

Thanks, speedy delivery...
and CD and artwork/booklet in perfect condition....

Great Songs!.......2007-01-04
Awesome artist. Loved them. The second CD was great as well. Some great live songs and mixes.
great cd.......2006-06-29
There are few cds I can listen to from beginning to end without getting bored, but I can definitely say all the tracks on this one keep me pumping.
If you liked groups like LaBouche, dance remix albums, or the "house" synth bass-type music that used to be played in clubs before hip-hop took over, this is a great choice.
catchy electro/synth pop dance album with an 80s retro feel..........2006-05-09
Much like Lasgo's "Far Away" CD, this is definitely one you'll want to have if you love the fusion of modern dance and 80s new wave/nrg. Plus, you get a bonus disc of remixes and live tracks--I would have rather they had put more remixes instead (like those for the track "A to B"), but at least those are available on a CD single.
This is predominantly very catchy electro synth house, featuring mostly female vocal (STRONG vocals for a pop dance singer) but there's an occasional lead by the male (who sings with an 80s new wave feel). The tracks break down like this:
CD1:
1. Fairytale (incredible synth pop dance track)
2. A to the B (super catchy, more of an 80s hi-nrg commercial feel)
3. Ten Miles (A more mellow dance track, like moodier depeche, or perhaps camouflage, but with female vocal)
4. From Paris to Berlin (Another 80s hi-nrg feel, very commercial)
5. Peace Inside (gorgeous dance track--the chorus is specatacular)
6. Vienna (You definitely know where this band is coming from with this phenomenal synth dance cover of the Ultravox classic)
7. Dressed in Blue (downtempo electro house--almost reminds me of a moodier Abba song)
8. Ultimate Control (Hot track. The male sings lead, and it reminds me of something Wolfsheim would do)
9. Keen on Disco (don't know why the superior original mix is on the bonus disc. This is a slow version. Very dark Depeche feel)
10. Cheap Trick Kinda Girl (trying to be fun maybe? Just check out the title. This is a pretty horrid house song--with the male even guesting with a sort of Real McCoy type spoken part. Blech)
11. Loved Like A Maniac (hi-nrg retro feel--reminds me of something the Bobby O would have the Flirts record)
12. Deeper Still (Dark and brooding dance track--pretty heavy stuff, but mesmerizing)
13. Sunday Morning March (a short "outro". Non-dance instrumental)
CD2:
1,2. From Paris to Berlin--the original extended mix is better, if you can hunt down the CD single. The United Nations mix is sort of bland, the DJ Alligator mix is very euro dance
3,4. Keen on Disco--hit n run disco mix has a heavier euro dance beat, the original mix is the winner, with a more retro synth dance feel.
5. Careful With the Boys--a campy dance song featuring a downtempo verse with the house beat kicking in during the chorus. Not bad, but better off here than on the first disc.
6. Bass Driven Music--instrumental electro house
7. Balagan--a real novelty dance song. Very euro nrg, not really vocal.
8-11. The live tracks are not bad. Perhaps some of Infernal's older stuff because it sounds dated.

Album Description
Fifth official studio album and first in nine years. Band leader Dylan Carlson is regarded as an innovator in ambient, experimental, drone, doom circles. Known mostly for the Black Sabbath-meets-Melvins played at 16 RPM sound, they branch out here, incorporating new influences and continuing to innovate. Bold, vital, and essential.
Customer Reviews:
emptiness moving in shadows.......2007-05-24
Imagine yourself drifting across an open plain with nothing for miles around. The dust kicks at your heels. The silence is like a blanket.
You see a barn in the distance. You make your way towards it. The farmyard is deserted. You're hoping to find water.
Once in there you realise the scrubland was nothing compared to infinity. The barn opens into other worlds and the farmyard is a station for ghosts.
There is no going back. You resign yourself to staying. Night closes as you disappear into the sand. Somewhere a dust storm is rising.
If fungus was tumbleweed.......2006-05-19
Being familiar with Earth is only mildly useful in hearing "Hex" for the first time. While "Hex" normally refers to Pennsylvania Dutch symbolism used on buildings (barns) to ward off bad or encourage good, this record is just as easily the backdrop to a desert you can't even dream of.
If you've traveled (or live in) southern parts of UT, AZ, NM, and CA, the pull that one feels towards the desert is perfectly embodied in the simple and harsh notes of a single guitar. Imagine Clint Eastwood sharing a world with Stephen King's gunslinger Roland in a land that is between world's but most certainly bleak.
slooooooow down there cowboy.......2006-03-14
Hex: Or Priniting in the Infernal Method is the first studio Earth album in nearly a decade, and as most reviews will agree, a departure from the previous four. it's an instrumental album (not to be confused with instru-metal) and comes complete with a drummer. it's released on southern lord (sun o))) and stephen o'malley). I haven't heard any other earth albums but i think pentastar also had a drummer.
Firstly it's slow and i mean slooooow. There's acres of space between notes and, i haven't counted, but some tunes clock in at like 15bpm.
Secondly it's heavy but this must certainly not be confused with dark. The album draws on influences from the american midwest in particular the German Lutheran and Swiss settlers of Pennsylvania. The midwest influence is most strongly heard on "an inquest concerning teeth".
The slowness and space between notes make some songs sound like your stuck out in the middle of some open plane with nothing but endless space. Or there's "left in the desert" with the howling wind complete with chimes.
The heaviest tune "Rainford (the fellow wind)" starts of with a single drum beat for about 1 minute then a two cord repition for another minute then both are superimposed with a distorted, elongated couple of notes that become progressively more central by the time it wraps up after about 7 minutes. The reviewer above is entirely accurate to suggest this could be the song to a slow motioned shoot out in the ok carol.
This album is wicked. I wouldn't necessarily call it a metal album...in that screaming and/or anrgy sense. i'm not even sure purists would call this drone metal. But however you classify it this album really is something. you just need some patience and an empty living room to be rewarded. Do yourself a favour and at least listen to it @ your favourite store.
for Astro Zombie dot com-munication..........2005-09-22
If Jonah Hex were to bash John Wayne's head open with a rock after shooting him in the neck and then slowly drag the body across the desert this would be the soundtrack heard within the harsh sandstorms and echoing across jagged red rocky valleys.
Ennio Morricone has become a heroin addict. Merle Haggard slits his wrists in the back of a pick-up truck while White2 tears apart the speakers.
Horses hang their heads so low their necks snap. Tumbleweeds turn into dust. Cacti needles invert and blood flows...
1. Mirage
The album opens with blowing wind and minimalist reverbed clean guitar strumming setting the tone for what's to come. A short and ominous introduction.
2. Land of Some Other Order
This track begins with more clean guitars but now accompanied with slow drums and what seems to sound like a droning bass guitar or possibly the baritone guitar. Trombone is actually used in this song also. The various tones melt into each other and slide along smoothly and perfectly. Picture an outlaw on horseback approaching a ghost town up on the horizen. You'd hear this.
3. The Dire and Ever Circling Wolves
Tubular bells create the sound of wind chimes here. More plodding clean guitars and drums. There's a, dare I say, distinct country-western aura within this track and throughout most of the album. Imagine every score you've ever heard in a television or movie scene involving cowboys served a large dose of darkness and compacted into about eight minutes. It has been done here.
4. Left in the Desert
More wind and wind chimes with guitar ambience creeping in the background. A very short "intro in the middle of the album" type of track.
5. Lens of Unrectified Night
Yes, clean guitars again. Slow twanging over slow drumming. The difference between this track and the others is that seems to let a little "hope" creep it's way into the notes. But when I say a little, I mean it.
6. An Inquest Concerning Teeth
This song features banjo from what I can hear. It's rather hard to tell which of the various instruments are being used at certain points because they are sort of drenched in a clean, harmonial feedback. It's kind of amazing after listened to numerous times.
7. Raiford (The Felon Wind)
It sounds like there's going to be a standoff in front of the old saloon or some such place. Cymbals are used to create the sound of spurs over slow war drums. There's banjo and trombone with clean and distorted guitar coming up with a wild atmosphere up front while producing another layer of atmosphere with feedback below everything.
8. The Dry Lake
If you've ever heard the wind instrument used in Buddhist temples when reciting the Mahakala Tantra you'd recognize the sound the trombone carries over from Raiford.Underneath this sound is something reminiscent of the avant-jazz scores to films like The Salton Sea or Naked Lunch. Also includes tonal droning and samples of neighing horses. Short and haunting.
9. Tethered to the Polestar
Minimalist clean guitars signaling the end. Like Michael Hedges with one hundred pound weights on his arms. This continues over the drums and varied guitar sounds until the disc, unfortunately, stops spinning...
Hex; Or Printing in the Infernal Method spawns a dark, spacious, slithering, post-country doomscape. Like one giant song divided into nine tracks. It's a concept album without words. An audial framework for "something" so massive it couldn't possibly exist simultaneously with mere human beings. Earth are providing the score while forcing the listener to provide the imagery. Just be sure not to get stuck there...

Great Classic Themes.......2006-09-11
This is an awesome collection of unsettling melodies from the masters, not just some horror movie themes (though it does have some Psyco). You will end up playing a round of "Where have I heard that score before?" because these melodies are very iconic.
The only complaint is that the track listing is somewhat occult. One has to use amazon.com's track listings and fill in the numbers.
Still, this is a great buy!!
Simply Wonderful!.......2006-05-18
I would like to begin my review of this wonderful CD by stating that I am not a "kid." (unless you consider a 14-year-old to still be a child) I am, however, too lazy too start a new Amazon.com account before typing about this great CD.
Now then... In my eyes, this CD recieved 5 stars because of (what else!) the music. The quality of the music to be more specific. The sound of it was great and the selection of the pieces was pure genius. My personal favorite would have to be a three-way tie between Bach's Toccata and Fugue, Dukas' Sorceror's Apprentice, and Stravinsky's The Right of Spring.
I will leave you tonight with one final thought... Is it just me, or are most of the pieces from "Fantasia"? At least 7 (!) of the pieces are from that age-old classic. I think it's funny that they are on a collection such as "The Most Frightening Music in the Universe". And could the cover art be any worse?!
All in all it is a great CD to add to any collection. (and cheap!) Thanks!

Customer Reviews:
I love this metal........2006-04-16
I can understand why so many people have come to like this band, it's easy to. They're a perfect mix of pop, goth, and metal, and quite catchy. I bought this never having heard one song, and now love it. I will say I decided to buy based on the two covers. Both are excellent, and I think HIM was born to cover "Wicked Game", musically and lyrically. This singers voice is a great match on all these tracks. Other stand-outs to me are "Your Sweet Six Six Six", "Our Diabolical Rapture", and "When Love And Death Emrace". All have a good hook. Regardless of your taste, minus country, you'll most likely love "Greatest Love Songs 666".
Best HIM album for the fan of alternative/metal.......2006-03-24
This is a nice blend of hard music without going going "overboard". It combines goth metal elements with pure rock. What makes this my favorite HIM album is because I feel that Ville's haunting voice was made for this dark style of music, it's unfortunate that they've since turned into wusses. The highlight of this album is the remake of the memorable Chris Isaak song, "Wicked Game", HIM's whole new edgy take on this song makes it seem as if that song was made for them. Overall, this is a great album for listeners of goth metal.
Their first and one of their best........2006-03-13
Him lps are inconsistant. But this one is probably their second best. "The Heartless" and "It's All Tears" are worth the price of the cd alone. Buy it.
Who knew?.......2006-02-01
Maybe it's because this band is from Finland that I never even heard of them until recently but boy am I glad I found them! Great stuff!
Pretty cool.......2006-01-20
I would give this 5 stars except that HIM has done better, the recording process is a little weird (but neat). But this is a very cool album, with 'Your Sweet Six Six Six' and the lovely 'For You'. I give their cover of 'Don't Fear the Reaper' a 5 star, it is just incredible! This album is definately worth owning!

Customer Reviews:
Cigarettes and Black Love.......2006-03-19
I was waiting for this cd for a very long time, i mean i love all Greg's album, they are intense, passionate, but Amber Headlights is giving me back the soul of the Afghan Whigs, somenthing i missed a lot for a long time . I love his voice, the way he sing, the way he loves his music. You can t explain the beauty of this cd, there are great rock-blues-love songs:the first time i heard "So Thight" it makes me jump up and down my room (i haven t done it for long time since Black Love "Going to town"), then Cigarettes (what a great song, this time i only remember i was singing the chorus with "Gentleman" in my hand), then "Domani" that in italian means tomorrow, kind of Greg's jazz slow song in which his voice is so low that you can t even try to sing like that. Then song after song i realized is the best cd i ever bought after so many years. If you don t know anything about Afghan Whigs and Greg Dulli then it is time to start to listen one of the best alternative artist of our time.
Just like old times.......2006-02-18
Fits somewhere between Gentlemen and Black Love in style. Fairly stripped typical Afghans style production and a must for anyone interested in Greg Dulli and Twilight Singers. Had a lot of trouble getting this in the UK. Interesting to see how some of the tracks morphed into Blackberry Belle era Twilight tunes. If only this guy would come over her more often.
If you like Whigs..........2005-12-18
...then you'll love this. It's not as rocking as Gentlemen but more ballsy than any Twilight Singers stuff. It's pretty obvious that none of it was meant for release - at least, it wasn't taken seriously - and yet it's good to hear this stuff years after Dulli has stopped sounding this way. As always, if you're going to do something morally wrong in a relationship, Dulli has the soundtrack covered.
Great Disc!.......2005-10-28
If you are a fan of the Afghan Whigs this cd is a must have. It is a lot more rock than I would expect from Mr. Dulli, but that isn't a bad thing. Songs Cigarettes and Domani stand out and are surrounded by great tracks through out the album. No one fuses rock and R&B quite like Greg Dulli, and if the new Twilight Singers album is reminicent of these recordings we are in for in for a treat.
solo Dulli rocks.......2005-09-22
Recorded after the demise of the Afghan Whigs this project was shelved after the death of Greg Dulli's close friend Ted Demme. Dulli instead shifted gears and released three Twilight Singers discs, Twilight as sung by ... , Blackberry Belle and the covers disc She loves you. Amber headlights incorporates many of the elements and musicians of the Twilight Singers but also rocks harder at times and recalls the Whigs on several songs. Highly recommended; essential for anyone who misses the Whigs or is entranced by the Twilight Singers.
