5 out of 5 stars Lime.......2007-03-08

I have been looking for a particular song for several years. This album had it.

4 out of 5 stars Before LimeWire, there was Lime.......2006-11-06

Infectious, disco grooves that are up, up, up. This is a fabulous greatest-hits collection, (albeit slightly auraly tweaked for the Ninetees), that shows off the sounds of Lime at their blistering best. And the music transcends time and space; my fondest memory is watching my mother and father dance together to 'Unexpected Lovers' in the living room. If you like one Lime track ('Your Love' for example), the rest is just as good.

5 out of 5 stars IF YOU GOT TO HAVE.......2006-09-20

I love Amazon, there are some items that are well priced but when I was searching to buy LIME's GREATEST HITS, I thought to myself are you kidding me. WHY $[...]? Because it's an IMPORT? I dont think so. This is a great album to have in it's disco/freestyle type era of the early and late 80's, and I was willing to find it for cheaper...Go to FYE.COM, I got it for $[...], I love Lime but for $[...] I can buy a Concert TICKET. 5 Stars for Lime, 1 star for Amazon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars perfect score for a perfect movie.......2007-02-19

Carol Reed's veteran cinematographer Robert Krasker's quirky angles under Reed's direction perfectly framed the ready-made-for-an-art designer bombed out shadows and stark, isolated street lights of post-war Vienna and its underworld. Unique to cinema history the whole score (but for some canned incidental cafe music) was just the brilliant zither playing of Anton Karas, adding his nuances to every dramatic transition. Krasker won an Oscar, and Karas was nominated.

The "Third Man Theme" (also known as the "Harry Lime Theme") is alternately brittle, jaunty, bittersweet, romantic, wry, and even sardonic piece of music--which fits the mood of the story and the film perfectly -- that, once heard, can't be forgotten.

The "Third Man Theme" turned Anton Karas into a wealthy man after 28 years of toiling in obscurity an relative poverty in Vienna.

One night, Carol Reed was passing by a wine tavern where growers offer their own wines for sale directly, and heard Anton Karas's playing in the background. Reed had never heard a zither before and found the sound to be attractive. He approached Karas and persuaded him to play for him at his hotel, and made a recording, which Reed brought back to the studio to test. He liked the effect when the zither's sound was placed against the recorded dialogue and, ignoring the protests of many around him, hired Karas and brought him to London for 12 weeks.

Anton Karas screened the movie hundreds of times, devising music for each scene. The Third Man ended up with a vast amount of music, scored in virtually every scene of its 104 minutes. Ironically, the piece that became known as the "Third Man Theme" was something that Anton Karas had written two decades earlier and hadn't played in over 15 years. As he later explained to Reed, playing the zither for a whole night for tips was hard work, and one tended to play the easiest pieces the most often, to save the fingers.

Other zither players never got it to sound just right. The truth was that as recorded for the movie, "The Third Man Theme" was one of the first practical examples of overdubbing on a hit record, rivaling Les Paul's work--Anton Karas had gotten just the right effect working underneath Reed's kitchen table, and had gotten the piece just right by recording and mixing more than one zither part.

The Third Man was finished and prepared for release, and Reed and the production company, London Films, tried to raise interest in it through the music. None of the record companies, however, was interested in recording Karas or releasing the "Third Man Theme." The music was too strange and different, and although British movies had produced some soundtrack successes in the past, those were usually more conventional light classical pieces, not a jangly piece of music played on a central European folk instrument.

3 out of 5 stars Pleasant "ethnic" melodies.......2007-01-22

The tunes on this disc have a nice, comforting sound. Some of the selections are haunting, some have a peasant-liveliness. Nothing great or revolutionary, but plain good zither music, very enjoyable.

We bought it for a friend. They loved it.

4 out of 5 stars The first man of the zither.......2006-03-10

The CD didn't sound as good as the movie sound track. Ity sounded a bit rushed as if the sampling during the transfer was not sufficient

You've been looking for the original version of the music in "The Third Man", right? Every other CD on the market wouldn't work for you. But lucky for you, this is the one! Don't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sampling Collection.......2007-07-29

Over the past thirty years, my father and I have been collecting film music on various formats--vinyl, tape, reel-to-reel, CD, recording it from the movie, even. This collection is a great starter for someone who wants to start owning movie music. Lots of big hitters, including Hermann, Barry, Conti, Mancini, and Goldsmith as well as some contemporary scores that are great, too. This is the type of collection I would make for a friend who asks "what scores should I start with?"

4 out of 5 stars Six Decades of Film Music.......2007-05-13

This is film music for the classical music lover. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra presents excellent arrangements of a number of classic film themes (although several pieces of the 56 film classics selected for this 4 CD set are not orchestral arrangements, but rather specialty arrangements). Besides great film composers such as John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, classical composers such as Richard Strauss and Pietro Mascagni make an appearance. On several of the numbers the Crouch End Festival Chorus adds the human voice to the power of the full symphonic orchestra to create true movie magic. If you like the sound of a full symphony orchestra playing some of the most recognized themes ever written, you'll love these CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection with fine performances.......2007-03-28

Silva Screen Records, based in England, has been issuing some fine collections of film scores, more in one box than we have the right to expect. This four-CD box contains scores by many of the best writers, including Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tomkin, Kenneth J. Alford (The Bridge on the River Kwai), Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ennio Marricone, John Barry, Nino Rota, John Williams, James Horner, and more. We can all think of additional film scores we wished were included, but then there's no way this collection could be all-inclusive. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, supplemented by Crouch End Festival Chorus on some numbers, does a very competent job...The liner notes give the basic information without any commentary, and as far as I can see, contain only one error. Am I wrong or are tracks 9 and 10 on the fourth CD mislabeled? Track 9, which runs 7:33, seems to have the excitement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (which I did not see) and track 10, which runs 4:22, the more sedate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring (which I also did not see). Listings seem to have them reversed.

5 out of 5 stars "essential film scores from 1939 to 2004 ~ Incredible Music".......2005-05-16

When I think of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "The Incredible Film Music Box", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades from 1939 through and up to the present 2004

There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!

Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.

Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

Camper Van Beethoven's first record with bona fide crossover appeal, 1989's Key Lime Pie (Virgin), brought the celebrated indie band into the, ahem, lime light. Not surprising since Key Lime Pie joined David Lowery's playful, ironic songwriting, Morgan Fichter's soaring violin, and Dennis Henderson's artful production. While the percussive cover "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and the chugging "Jack Ruby" have historically gotten the most attention on this record, Camper Van Beethoven gems like "(I Was Born in a) Laundromat" and "All Her Favorite Fruit" should not be overlooked. A classic. --Nick Heil

5 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars . . . alternating between heavy and light.......2006-08-27

I bought this disc when it was released and actually had the pleasure of seeing CVB on the ensuing tour in Athens, GA. This disc is darker, deeper and seems more personal than some of CVB's earlier material which ventured (in a good way) into, as I believe D. Lowery himself said, "absurdist rock". This disc stands the test of time and still sounds great today with standout tracks like Borderline, All Her Favorite Fruit and Sweethearts which I consider one of CVB's very best songs. It's a classic album that was critically underappreciated when it was first released. As others have noted CVB was one of the many bands that really established 80's college radio that set the stage for today's indie rock scene. This was their last disc but in retrospect I believe their most creative. I'd agree that it's not their most challenging or "envelope-pushing" as some of the earlier material.

Several tracks on this disc suggest that the songs were written during the brutal heat of summer (June, The Humid Press of Days, Favorite Fruit with "the heat drifts towards a line of trees", and obviously Come On Darkness "let the pavement cool"). I recommend that once this becomes a favorite disc of yours (as it is mine) you give it a listen on the hottest day of the year - it will really make sense. At the same time the heart of the disc and the middle set of songs obviously represent a break-up - I remember at the time (a really hot Athens summer) my girlfriend and I were also calling it quits and I think that's one of the many reasons that this disc has stuck in my psyche all of these years later.

Also if you are a Cracker fan who never really listened to CVB, I urge you to give this one a try.

5 out of 5 stars some of the best songs ever written.......2006-08-02

For my money, this is the best Camper Van Beethoven album and a serious candidate for best rock album of all time. Musically, on other CVB albums like "My Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart," I personally find the Balkan element running through much of the music a bit irritating, and I think the replacement of Jonathan Segel by Morgan Fichter was a brilliant move, as the violin work on this album is stunning - the solo on "All Her Favorite Fruit" is unforgettable. I also don't think the level of brilliance of the lyrics on the other albums comes up to the standard of this one (though in this department I do recommend the first album by David Lowery's next band, CrackerCracker). The lyrics are really stand-out on this album, some of the best ever written, and I think comparisons with T.S. Eliot in the case of songs like "June" and "All Her Favorite Fruit" are no exaggeration. The underclass humor of "When I Win the Lottery" can't be beat (and for more in this vein, check out "Mr. Wrong" on the aforementioned Cracker album). (David Lowery's lyrical approach to the denizens of America's underbelly is more humorous, but still the best stuff this side of Tom Waits.)

5 out of 5 stars Moody, Ironic, and Tasteful melodies - Excellent.......2006-04-28

More Like 4.5 Stars. It is not a perfect record, but it is very unique and creative. Key Lime Pie is slower than the albums before this one. Dave Lowery writes witty and ironic lyrics which can make you think, laugh, or actually picture the scene for yourself. The violin is absolutely soothing, even on the raunchy The Humid Press of Days. Borderline and I was born in a Laundromat are two best cuts. When I win the Lottery is down right hilarious. This album will take time, so don't make your conclusion after the first or second listen. Let Key Lime Pie seep into your bloodstream and enjoy. Dave Lowery and CVB are genius! I will have the pleasure of purchasing New Roman Times when I get the chance. Excellent!

2 out of 5 stars You got to be kidding.......2006-01-06

I don't know who wrote all these raving reviews, but after buying into their hype and buying the CD and listening to it, I'm wondering who paid these guys off. Not bad songs technically, just something you'll never play more than once. No glimpses of genius; no euphoria; no whispers of one's primordial soul to rememberence; no passion. Better to donate to the Red Cross than to waste your $ on this one...

4 out of 5 stars its good.......2005-05-10

I give it a four because when I first heard it I really enjoyed it although I dont listen to it much lately I think I will have to after writing this review!! It has a very unique sound and It wont dissapoint.

5 out of 5 stars Praise and worship at its best.......2006-07-26

A lot of music sounds better without thousands of screaming fans in the background. But praise and worship live is the best. And there is no p & w live band better than the David Crowder Band. The Lime CD is a wonderful example of that.

I've heard the Passion Band CDs. Chris Tomlin is great. Matt Redman and Charlie Hall are cool. But David Crowder stands out every time I listen to it. I can fast forward through the other songs, but not Crowder's.

That said, Crowder hits the right highs for praise on this CD with songs like "Undignified" and "Every Move Make." It also the right lows for worship with songs like "You Alone" and "Heaven Came Down."

Of all the Crowder CDs I own, this is my favorite. I highly, highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Consummate DCB.......2006-04-20

What to say about the Lime CD? It's as though the producers trapped all the best elements of a DCB concert in a bottle and somehow fused it into a CD. The Lime CD stands apart in the way it captures the essence of a live DCB concert. It's practically like being there at an actual DCB concert, minus the visual component. The recording bears all of the vitality, wit, charisma, musical creativity, and raw energy that make the David Crowder Band such a great act.

My only qualm with the album is that it feels short by about two songs. So if they ever follow up with another live album, or a DVD, I'll be first in line to get a copy.

4 out of 5 stars Nice mix of songs.......2005-11-06

This band impresses me. Even on an album such as this (basically a combination of 2 promotional albums - or tracks that didn't quite make it onto their earlier albums) you can't help but hum along to them and enjoy the music. On this album you get to hear some of their songs that are less mixed - and the result is not really any less pleasing than their finely polished performances on other albums. Passionate worship with humour along the way.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful music!!!!.......2005-08-09

First off I am extremely picky when it comes to music and what I will listen to and when i first was introduced to DCB I simply fell in love with their music. It's hard to find awesomely produced, written, and performed music these days. But, this bad does just that and does it very well. Their work on passion, and especially Hymns is wonderful, but this release is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever listened too in my life! The whole album is amazing and I would recommed this to anybody who loves to worship the Lord and get closer to Him through worship. Learn these songs and make them your prayer to the Lord. All songs on here are great but my heart melts on track 4 and im pretty much out of it through the rest of the cd. This is definitely worth any amount of money because your only bettering yourself by getting closer with more worship. Oh, and I just gotta say, the scratching and the electronic parts of their music is what makes them so great!!!!! And to do all that and be live is music to my ears! God Bless

I really like this CD. I absolutely love "Undignified". And the cover of this CD is just adorable.

5 out of 5 stars Chocolate Watchband crossed with the MC5!.......2006-06-24

This is an absolutely essential compilation of first-rate garage rock. The Spiders completely avoided all of the cheesy aspects of the so-called garage rock revivalists, and instead simply stomped out basic loud rock & roll. The formula was to take the best elements of 60's garage rock and turn them up to eleven. The Nomads were doing almost the exact same thing at around the same time over in Sweden, which just goes to show you that great minds think alike!

4 out of 5 stars Garage Rock Galore.......2003-04-16

This is a lot more fun than today's current garage revivalists in that it is not trying to attain artistic pretensions. As well, it has a good sense of humor and punk rock spitefulness. Classic cuts like Slave Girl and Out of Control show a punk/garage rock hybrid that is quite palatable. More entertaining than Aussie Rock pioneers Radio Birdman though less challenging than the Birthday Party or my personal favorite, The Scientists it still holds up well today as a classic among neo-garage rock.

5 out of 5 stars Right In the Nuggets!.......2003-02-08

Jaw-dropping collection of ramped up Garage Rock that can only be the direct descendant of the bands featured on the classic 'Nuggets' collection.
Lime Spiders bust out old-school Garage style with twice the humor and three times the melodic sense. These are wickedly catchy jams with raw, searing guitar and oddball lyrics delivered with frenzied intensity. It's the real stuff.
If you dig the classic garage sound, or more modern rockers like Electric Frankenstein or the Hellacopters, this disc will hit you dead-on.

5 out of 5 stars Revival? What Revival?.......2003-02-04

If news of last year's overblown "garage rock" revival, which has already puttered out, ever reached Australian shores it was probably met with snickers since ragged louts like the Lime Spiders have never stopped believing in the beautiful, high-octane noise that guitars, bass, and drums can produce. This lovingly compiled collection of album tracks, rare B-sides, and EP cuts is a career retrospective of Oz's wildest band (no small claim) whose psychedelic, three-chords-and-a-cloud-of-dust attack is anchored by the arteries-bursting vocals of appropriately-monickered front man Mick Blood, who sings every song as if he's heard news of an H-bomb scheduled for down under tomorrow. There's no gristle in any of these songs, just plenty of red meat, snarling guitars, big drums and grit from a band whose singles, especially "Slave Girl," deserve the same recognition as those produced by the London and New York punk scenes. Play it at a Stroke or White Stripe today and watch them scurry for the safety of their MTV.

    5 out of 5 stars garage rock 80s style.......2002-10-01

forget the strokes ,hives and the rest of the phonies , this is the real deal.aussie garage rock at its very best . think igy , ramones , and evey 60s garage band you can think of. this is really it.

As far as I am concerned, "Your Love" is the first song that got me hooked on the group. Their sound is exceptionally easy to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Almost brings tears to my eyes.......2005-07-22

To many around the world, Lime is probably the best Hi-NRG group that ever existed. Original from Canada, they capitalized on the early Euro-Disco genre with hits like "your love" and "babe we're gonna love tonight". Although underground here in the States, Lime was played in every place around the world, from radio stations to clubs, with hit after hit from every album they put out. Really one of the first groups to cater to Dj's with multiple versions on every album of their hit songs. It almost brings tears to my eyes when I hear songs like "you're my magician", reminiscing of those beautiful times in the big 80's, a decade like no other.

    5 out of 5 stars 5 STARS AIN'T ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-04

Back in 1981, when djs played "Your Love", It would be impossible to find a space on the dance floor. The album was played every night time & time again for over a year if my memory hasn't fail me. Lime's debut is a classic example of Canadian disco at it's very best. All tracks on this album stands the test of time. They still sound great after almost a quarter of a century. I am listerning to it as I worte this. To me, "Your Love" is and always will be my #1 Disco Hit of all time.

5 out of 5 stars the beginning of 80's greatness...........2005-04-08

i actually found an original vinyl copy of 'your love' last week and quickly scooped it up for about 5 bucks at reckless records in chicago. after sliding the album down on the turntable and hearing the first track, "you're my magician", my jaws immediately dropped from hearing these exact sounds that i'd heard back in 1981-1982! damn, what genuis seems to come out of the creations of canadian masterminds denis and denyse lepage? i guess i'll never know, but with songs like "your love", "agent 409", and "with you", i'll be jammin' all night long with these early 80's classics!

5 out of 5 stars Groovin' To Candian Disco.......2003-02-17

I really can't say it better then the review below this one. Lime combined a high energy disco sound, with unique vocals to create some of the best disco to boogie down to on the dance floor. This album is definitely a gem, that is worth purchasing. 'Your Love' features four different cuts of 'Your Love,' including: the remix (7:01), the original (7:17), the instrumental (7:00), and the radio edit (4:02). Lime's other big hit of the album, 'You're My Magician' includes three cuts: the original (7:38), the instrumental (7:46), and the radio edit (4:05). The remaining three great songs include, 'It's You' (7:19), 'I'll Be Yours' (7:10), and last, a favorite of mine, the instrumental 'Agent 406.' A CD worth the purchase for any disco fans or dance floor fanatics.

Read the other reviews, they say it all! Lime is so wicked, so beautiful so energetic, so house driven, so garage, so Italo, and all remixes on all the albums are great. If you are new to them pick up their greatest hits album and watch summer lovers (the movie). Check out Flirts, Bobby O, Oh Romeo, Valerie Dore, FTP Project, and of course Divine. Globalove, Karim

5 out of 5 stars The seeds of lime are bearing fruit as we speak.......2006-03-17

This much-derided group never got their props, I'm here to re-pre-zent! Aside from New Order, Lime is the one group most responsible for the way we hear today's house records. Were they they alone in their time? No, but they solidified a pattern of beats and electronic sounds into a harder edged and more soulful version of HiNRG. Their kick drums are probably the only ones from the period (apart from New Order and a few Giorgio Moroder records that preceded them) that will endanger the foundation of your home. And like the aforementioned Moroder, Denis LePage's composition seamlessly made the hoky electronic ponderances of Kratwerk into something truly symphonic in nature. Their sound may be a little stuck in it's time on the majority of their records, but at their best those records SING. And a few choice cuts, such as "On The Grid" and "Babe We're Gonna Love Tonite" stand the test of time. Anyone wondering the evolution of Motown into today's "Garage" records needs to stop for some Lime on the journey of discovery. Canada gives us sporadic contributions to the pop culture. I'd say Lime is right up there with k.d. lang in impact and importance.

5 out of 5 stars flavor filled analog synth heaven.......2005-03-23

up until this past february, i never knew that there was such a vast history on the hi-nrg dance music scene of the early 80's. all i knew were a few songs from the era and that was it. but while reading industrial designer Karim Rashid's brand new column in the BPM magazine, karim brought me into a whole new world that i never knew. he went on to talk about his favorite artists from the hi-nrg/disco era, such as patrick cowley, lime, roni griffith, divine, the flirts, and many others. after reading and studying this article over and over, i figured, hell, this is the music that i get off on, anyway. so, i did my research on said groups and i chose lime's 2nd album first. putting the cd into my stereo, i turned up the volume and ended up shocked to find out that this is the same music that i heard on weekend nights back in the early 80's on one of chicago's urban stations(wbmx/102.7 fm, which is now v-103 fm). from the opening heavenly statement of "babe, were gonna love tonight", to "come and get your love" to "wake dream", i was brought back into great memories of my early years on earth. well, after this, i know i'll be getting more music and reliving happy times with denis and denyse lepage, better known and appreciated as lime.

5 out of 5 stars Classic HI-NRG at its best!.......2001-08-25

Lime gets 5 stars......Lime is a group with their own sound, the HI-NRG sound....Lime have been bringing the hits since early as 1980. Lime with hits like "we're gonna love tonight","unexpected lovers", "i dont wanna lose you","gold digger",played a major role in underground disco scene, while people thought that disco was dead, lime emerged as the group knocking down barriers in the HI-NRG genre....Lime being from Canada have influenced music all over the world with their unique disco electronic sound. The Lime greatest hits is another must buy for the disco collection.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most innovative albums of the 80's.......2000-03-07

You've probably never read about this album in Rolling Stones magazine...or seen a video of it on VH1/MTV...or heard it on Top40 radio. Thats because it has Dance beats! A huge crime never forgiven by the establishment!. Despite them this album deserves a lot of praise. It was this Canadian duo's second lp released in 1982....and their first fully electronic one. Over a killer rolling energetic drum programming track (in those Analogue days)....you get beautifully complex yet easy to swallow cool electronic arrangements. Over the top you get Denis Le Page's masculine rugged voice wailing with command. "Babe were gonna Love tonight" has a hipnotyzing synth line and the sing a long chorus is legendary. It was a pop hit in the more open minded main land Europe. Denis just writes beautiful vocal melodies...which you could sing along to on an acoustic guitar too. Totally recomended Synth heaven.

5 out of 5 stars superb recreation of original film score.......2006-12-15

This recreation of the original film score is far superior to recordings made by Karas, in fidelity, dynamic expression and nuance. The sound clips from the film are refreshing, although, I would have liked to have had at least one by the beautiful Alida Valli. Play the cd in your computer and watch the artist in the studio playing The Third Man Theme.

    2 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor.......2006-03-30

This is not original soundtrack from, yes, of course, one of the very greatest films. It's a weak, metallic, often even off key botching up of one of the arguably greatest soundtrack of all time. Best thing is to look for "The best of Anton Karas" cd. The only ping is that even on that collection - the harrowing 'Anna Walks Away Past That Smelly Skunk Martins' (as you can maybe tell I actually do like Harry Lime way more than that ugly little snitch!) - isn't on either.

1 out of 5 stars Must be my equipment?.......2006-03-11

I tried this disc in 4 PC CD players, 1 progressive scan JVC DVD/CD player and a PS2. On the PC's you saw a graphics page with areas in yellow. Lower right section had two areas to click. One for a video of Ms. Gertrud Huber playing the Harry Lime Theme by Anton Karas. The other had web site links. The tracks would not play. The (20 tracks) would be visible as blocks in the PS2 screen, but each had to be selected and there was no play through. There was the addition of dialogue at the beginning of each track (following the film/music structure). As the CD would come up (on the PC) you would hear the Harry Lime Theme playing. Amazon replaced it with another disc that did the same thing, which helped me decide to get the movie (I would have preferred to have a vehicle for hearing the soundtracks that would work in a PC, or a CD player). I am not qualified (or sensitive enough) to 'rate' the movie. I will say if you have never seen it, rent it and fast forward (treat yourself) to the last 2 minutes (see http://imv.au.dk/publikationer/pov/Issue_02/section_3/artc3C.html). Play it back with no music, then with music. Play it back at different times and through different moods and you will appreciate one of the finest works of film in existence coupled with one of the finest pieces of music ever produced. No single 'scene' can show you the promises of the past and let you feel the horror of regret. A mystical view that soon reveals Anna walking toward the camera, through the tree lined road, passing Holly is a statement and genius unto itself. The Karas compositions are brilliant, but this one is an everyman's masterpiece. What a gift (of course see the film. It is after all - superb!).

    2 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing.......2006-01-21

Alas, this CD has the music from the movie played competently by a woman named Gertie Huber with snippets of dialogue tossed in. Don't be deceived by the packaging! If you're looking for the original dialogue and soundtrack--get the movie on DVD from Criterion. If it's the original music you're after, as I was, make certain you buy a CD with the music played by the original artist: Anton Karas on the Zither. Bottom line: perfectly pleasant. But I learned my lesson--read more carefully before I order!

5 out of 5 stars "one of the Greatest Themes ever ~ The Third Man".......2003-06-12

Who was Harry Lime? Has he anything to do with the Cold War, intrigue involving spies, or has this just been another of what has been termed as "The Third Man"? From the pen of Graham Greene, directed by Carol Reed we move mysteriously through the sewers of Vienna. The cast gave us suspenseful performances with Joseph Cotton, Trevor Howard, Alida Valli and oh yes, Orson Welles as The Third Man. Nominated for several Academy Awards, won for Best Cinematography ~ as Carol Reed won for Best Director at Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. But what made this classic film even more classic was the zither and composer Anton Karas ~ only to become one of cinemas most recognizable scores, the ultimate "Harry Lime Theme" sending memories of betrayal and suspense that filled the big screen.

Silva America has done a magnificent job in putting together this World Premiere recording of the score, this time around with Gertrud Huber playing the solos ~ along with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nic Raine. Entire album with dialogue inclusive within each key cue is brilliant. When you play this "film-score-buffs" classic, you will once again visualize the film or want to see it again on DVD ~ watch the gripping story unfold as Orson Welles recreates his character through the complete score of "The Third Man"!
