4 out of 5 stars THE VELVET VOCALS.......2007-01-26

BIG BROOKLYN RED IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT SOUL ARTIST WHO DON'T GET AIRPLAY ON MAINSTREAM RADIO(FM).WHAT A PITY ,BECAUSE THIS CAT IS MONSTER VOCALIST A TRUE TALENT, I DISCOVERED THIS GENT ON 2 COMPILATIONS AND WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE TRACKS THE WAR INSIDE AND TIME .HE ONLY GETS 4 STARS BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO GET HIMSELF MORE EXPOSURE,HE NEEDS TO BE HEARD MORE.THE OVERALL CD IS EXCELLENT, U DON'T HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT SAMPLE TRACKS AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF,YOU'LL HUNT THIS JOINT DOWN ONCE U HEAR IT.

5 out of 5 stars Whoo!.......2006-11-23

I was fortunate to hear about this dude at a much respected record bar in south west London, called Soul Brother Records! And boy was I overjoyed. Sadly enough, because it is so difficult to find really good RnB/contemporary soul in this day and age, one has to really dig deep to find it. Unless of course you don't mind listening to the drivel on MTV!

Think about the day you heard Solo's first album and how good it made u feel. Think about how D'Angelo's Brownsugar album cheesed you off- as it was too short!! That is Big Brooklyn Red's Foreword right there. Think about Jodeci when they bust out Forever My Lady, and how Musiqsoulchild brought back the neo-classical soul sound with his first album. Think Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite...

Sadly, BBR won't be as widely listened to...and heard. He is signed to some small label that cannot (or can't be bothered) afford to distribute and market his music as they should. But for us die hard fans of pure RnB/Soul, we shall support him. The sound is pure. I rate this album 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Where Has He Been .......2005-12-23

I have had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman in person and I can only say he is Wonderful. I must admit that I had never heard of him before but by the time I had finished litening to his album I felt like I knew him. This artist certainly deseves more exposure. He is definately a well kept secret that needs to be told.

This Cd is awesome, choke is the best band i've heard in years for pumping me up, tracks like 'recoil' and 'one less thing at a time' are amazing.

5 out of 5 stars Authentic...Intelligent...Such small words to describe Choke.......2004-10-06

Brilliant...Unbelievable...Again, a great band that doesn't get half the success they deserve. God bless Choke for being who they are. They give awesome shows too (saw them 4 times already). Mixing with such talent short metal passages, weird tempos and punk fastness isn't given to any other band. Schawn is one of the most original singer I've seen in a long loooooong time. You get the feeling sometimes that he sings something else while the music behind plays, but if you take the time to listen carefully, you'll see that every vocal line has its place and is wiselly incorporated into songs. My fav Choke album out of their 5 releases, and is for anyone that's waiting for something unpredictable or simply....good, awesome, jaw-dropping music. Enjoy.

P.S. The album title is FOREWORD with an O. I said FOREWORD.

5 out of 5 stars Great Mellow Metal!.......2005-03-24

I got this CD in a Metal Blade grab bag off of Ebay. It looked just plain demented and it was from all the way back in 1993. I listened to the first song and just put it away for a day or two. Well, eventually I got around to getting back out and giving it another shot. At first, I was intrigued with "Die" because it's the heaviest thing on the CD, but then I began to appreciate the rest of the songs for just how unique they were. I've never heard anything so relaxed yet still so rockin'. Unlike lots of band today, Mouth can sing really well. I wish I could find more bands like this. They're not like ACDC, they're not like Nirvana. They almost like a Lynard Skynard metal band in the early 90's. Mouth is truly unique, give this CD a shot, you've never heard anything like it.

Don't be afraid that this is out of your ring of normal listening music. Fans of 80's metal should most definitely check this out as it's a great transition between the 80's and the music of today.

      Product Description

5 track CD -------------- 1. Alright With Me 2. The Secret 3. Monster 4. Don't Smile 5. Resonance ------------------ Straightforward, no-nonsense, aggressive post-grunge rock. That's all it is. Alternative? To what? These days that word describes the mainstream, and Sacramento's PROON is anything but. Sandwiched somewhere in between the hardcore rap/metal and smiley-face pop that dominates today's music scene, PROON offers a universally appealing sound which manages to be edgy without sacrificing melody. Guitarist Scott Vaughn meshes hard-hitting power chords with intricate melodies that you'll be humming in your head for days. Drummer Victor Balta may be smiling most of the time, but don't be fooled... he's among the hardest hitting percussionists in Sacramento. Bassist Curtiss Pflager keeps the floor rumbling with his deep bass grooves. And above it all Ken Cuozzo's introspective and intelligent lyrics rise with a smoothness periodically punctuated with snarling emotion. With songs about everything from facing inner demons, struggles with inadequacy, and antidisestablishmentarianism (well okay, I just wanted to use that word), to songs about public drunkenness and love internet-style, PROON is original, honest, pragmatic, and sometimes tongue-in-cheek. Their songs are rooted in experience, and are meant to be something everyone can relate to. Formed in 1997, PROON has spent the last two years perfecting their chemistry, recording a five song self-produced CD "Foreword," and finding a comfortable place in the Sacramento club circuit. Dreams of rock stardom carefully placed on the back burner, PROON is an interactive and accessible band onstage that loves to play to the crowd. Fans of the local music scene themselves, they are fiercely loyal to the town that has supported them, and would like nothing better than to "give it back to Sac."

amazing ep. this band began as an instrumental band, and this ep is the bridge between instrumental and the full length that followed it (which has a lot more vocals and generally a more radio friendly sound to it). they put on a good show as well, which is a bonus.

      5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2007-05-29

Looks Like Me is playing hardball. The band's third CD, Foreword, is fantastic. All 11 tracks are super solid, the production on this record is outstanding. Heavy rock and alt-rock fans around have a lot to listen for from this band. LLM declares its influences to run from Tool to U2 to Pearl Jam to Radiohead, and that is not far from the truth. Lead singer Lance May has a lot of Eddie Vedder in him with moments of Jeff Martin (Tea Party) and Scott Stapp (without the awful tongue-swallowing singing style that perme-ates Creed's records, thankfully). May's voice is huge and automatically engaging. He moves through each track with both emotion and power without becoming overbearing or redundant. The band's style remains centered in a sort of dark, modern guitar rock sound but diverges here and there for a great mix of well-written tunes. "Walk Away" is an enigmatic, brooding and serious song featuring the thunderous drum work of Greg Sands and a beautiful surprise ending from guitar and piano player Quinton Montgomery. Track six opens with a melancholy guitar solo but soon becomes the happy pop rock tune, "Nowhere to Go," suggestive of older Big Head Todd stuff. "Friend" hits harder with big and crunchy power chords and a relentless bass pulse from Brian McClure throughout the verses. Just the stuff we need to sink our teeth into. Although hailing from Colorado Springs, Looks Like Me tours regularly and is already starting work on its next record. The four members clearly love what they are doing. And they do it very well.
