Album Description

This mini CD includes 2 new HATE FOREST EPs. The first one, "Blood and Fire" is true Black Metal, raw and hateful, inspired by Nietzschean philosophy, and ancient legends. The second one, "Ritual" is so called 'dark ambient', with the atmosphere of swamps, nocturnal deep forests, rhythm of prim evil ceremony and stench of burning churches, spreading on the wind... NO FASHION, NO INTERVIEWS, NO FEMALE VOCALS, NO LUST.

For a band with songs that are the length of Hate Forest's, four tracks is really not enough. Besides that, the first song repeated the crap that darkthrone put out with Transilvanian hunger (...).

This effort is worth passing over, it's not great or terribly original, and if Hate Forest could manage to come out with a full length, then you could consider buying it. Until then, Ugh.

Similar to the innovating debut 'Worship Him', this second album from Samael takes a more slower approach to black metal stylings. Although the music is sometimes painfully slow, nevertheless simple "evil" riffs describe the doomish aesthetic samael bring brilliance to this heavy effort.

Compared to today's Black Metal, Blood Ritual is somewhat primative. By that I mean the guitar sound is different. Although the sound is heavy, they don't have the same distortion sound as today's BM. The lyrics are dark, the rhythm is an overall evil presence, and Vorphalack on vocals does a good job bringing it all together. The songs, you have to picture a satanic ritual on stage as if it were a play, because it more of art and music blended together than just music about satan. I give this album 4 stars because it is a good Samael album, but not their best. I recommend Ceremony Of Opposites.

Not black metal, not really anything. Most of this album is like 80s Metallica played at half speed. There doesn't seem to be anything purposeful about the musical approach/style, it's just really amateurish. The vocals and occasional keyboard parts are the only things that show any trace of talent or make this album seem remotely comparable to the likes of Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Satyricon, or Bathory. The metal guitar, drumming, and production is more like a high school garage band. I can't comprehend how this album was made by the same band that made Passage.

I am predominantly a thrash/death metal fan. Though I have been listening to black metal of late, a lot of it has seemed too distant for my tastes.

That is, until I heard Samael.

This is one album you need to check out. It is black metal but with very catchy riffs and not much changes in tempo. Though I would not like to go into rating individual songs, I beleive the songs that stand out are

So all you 'wanna listen to black metal but most are too inaccessible' folks out there, go ahead and get this album by the Swiss masters. You will not be disappointed.

Samael is absolutely the best band out there. I choose to not label them as black or death metal. They are truly original METAL. Blood Ritual in my eyes is the best produced, yet still heavy and raw album they have put out to date. Truly Satanic lyrics, chainsaw-like guitars, rolling drums, melodic, beautiful, unrelenting HATE. This album is a MUST HAVE for all Satanic metal fans everywhere.

      This is one of those "blackened death metal" albums, much in the same vein as bands like Dissection and later Behemoth. Deep, throaty vocals, more crunch-and-riff-driven rhythms, elegant leads and solos, and a crystal-clear production are plentiful on this album, and are often argued to be "untrue" elements to black metal. However, the Satan-centered lyrics and occasional atmospheric/epic passages add a darker flavor to the mix. Overall, this is a pretty decent album, and worth checking out if you need a quick fix of dark metal.

      Intense and blistering riffs, saturated in heaviness and tone that crunches with the grit of bone matter and gristle, Black Grimoire is a strong contender to the Black Metal canon. While Black Metal can be limiting in form: there is not much deviation from the formula of high-velocity spatter guitars, maniacal drums, and gutteral vox; what 'sells' a Black Metal album becomes content and authenticity, and the lyrical and conceptual content of Black Grimoire has this in spades. I look forward to more releases from Blood Ritual.

        This album delivers the goods. 4 and a half, for the purposes of this rating 5 stars. Fans of true heavy death metal early Morbid Angel, Immolation, Incantation, Drawn And Quartered will not be left wanting. Also reccomended the band's latestn "Black Grimoire". This album is rawer than their latest but truly brutal and dark. Moribund Cult for the most part always deliver the good for non-poser heavy as hell dark metal music, and this album is no exception. If you enjoy evil sounding hateful depressing death metal this will suit your needs.
