Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars OK collection, but not perfect (but what is?).......2006-03-26

I found that the CD was really a good buy, as I was after the Kiss song "Forever", and the Whitesnake song "Is This Love?". It also has some good tunes like Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" (this seems to appear on every 80's CD I buy, but oh well), and a really good Sammy Hagar tune "Your Love's Driving Me Crazy".It also has some good tunes by Cinderella, Tesla, and the Scorpions. The only problem I have with this CD is that it has the edited version of Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love", which is butchered terribly, and sounds out of place from the start (it's my favorite song by Meat Loaf, but it's from 1993, not the 80's). Other than that, it is an overall good sampler.
***Note that Alice Cooper is on the cover, but has no songs on the CD; if this is not Alice, then please correct me.

4 out of 5 stars Love is the LAW.......2006-03-15

Calling the Patti Smith Group's "Because the Night" the best single of the 80s is a little like saying "We Built This City" is the best single of the 90s or "Yesterday" is the best signle of the 70s. It came out in '75. Still, it IS awesome, and there are a few other selections here that are neccessary 80s tunes. Romeo Void, Furs, Bunnymen. And props for including the Suburbs "Love is the Law": A true New Wave classic. If you approach the 80s from a college radio (and not an MTV) type place, the Sedated series might just be for you. They're all out of print too, so get 'em while they're cheap!

5 out of 5 stars Sublime.......2005-03-26

Patti Smith's Because the Night (written for her by Bruce Springsteen) is simply the best single of the 80's, hands down. So you know that an 80's compilation that includes it is going to be great. And this one is great. You also get the best of Exene and X -- Los Angeles -- as well as Wall of Voodoo's mindblowing cover of Johnny Cash's cover of the Carter Family's Ring of Fire. Wow. The Kinks making a comeback in the 80's with Superman (wouldn't it be cool if Laurie Anderson's O Superman was on this volume instead of on Vol. 3 ... but then that volume is also fabulous so go ahead and get it too) The English Beat doing I Confess ... Chili Peppers' proto-whiteboy-hiphop Fight Like a Brave ... Ramones, David Bowie, what more do you want? This is a CD to listen to again and again. I've been collecting the Rhino New Wave Hits series, which is good, but after stumbling across the Sedated series I have to say it's superior. Smart people put these compilations together.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2001-04-19

I am an 80's music junkie who has collected many anthologies and compilations from this decade. SEDADED 2 has risen to the top of the pile as one of my most listened to CDs. In fact, it rarely leaves its spot on my player. The songs do not become tiresome or tedious; and they tend to be tracks that are not usually played on the 80's flashback radio shows or stations. In fact, the CD features a lot of hard to find tracks that are not included in most 80's compilations, such as "Pale Shelter" by Tears for Fears (instead of the more typical "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World) and "Los Angeles" by X. This compilation has a nice edge to it. The songs have something to say, they are well written, extremely well sung and all will move you in some way. Starting with Billy Idol's driving beat and rebel attidude of "White Wedding", to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sing/shout-along chorus of "Fight like a Brave", followed by the sensual "Lips like Sugar" of Echo and the Bunnymen with a nice segue into the Psych. Furs raspy "Heartbreak Beat", etc. Not many CD's can pull off playing the painful end of a relationship "Kiss Off" (Violent Femmes) AND English Beat's "I Confess" of new love. The CD also includes Patti Smith, the Ramones, David Bowie, the Kinks, Wall of Voodo, English Beat and Stone Roses. (Wow!) Really, this is the coolest compilation of rebel-sexy-moody anguish-with-a-beat you'll ever find!

    4 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2000-10-12

I thought this was an excellent compilation. So many good tunes from some of the more obscure bands. At least obscure in that you don't find them on EVERY 80's comp, like many others. Joe Jackson "Breaking Us In Two" and "Life's What You Make It" by Talk Talk are two shining stars.

    5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2002-01-25

This is one of those few gems where you can listen to the entire thing from start to finish without having to skip dull filler songs. Every song is equal in its catchiness and fun. These are good glam rock songs that seem to be slowly losing popularity. Don't forget your past, people! I was just a kid, but I remember how pick-me-up and danceable these tunes were. They are just as good as I remembered, and even more fun now that I can actually appreciate what they are singing about. It's a great car CD (especially for road trips), excellent work out CD (great for cardio), but it's also good for decent background party music. These songs are those little guilty pleasures that nobody wants to admit they enjoy. Well, indulge yourselves, because this is a worthy investment that will not disappoint you.

5 out of 5 stars A ROCK AND ROLL RIDE TO THE PAST........1999-08-29

This is what rock was all about. Good times and music that filled with you with energy and made your heart beat like a train. The songs on this cd take you back to a time when musis was about having fun and falling in love. Every track rocks and is a great collection for any 80's hard rock fans.

4 out of 5 stars Great introduction to some forgotten bands.......2006-05-31

Son of Pure Rock was a 1988 compilation of some lesser known hard rock and hair metal acts. It was sponsored by L.A. radio station KNAC.

The album has some interesting moments. The Guy Mann Dude track is nice if you like guitar wizardry, Crisis was a better than average melodic rock band with female vocals, and Fighter was a Christian AOR band with dual lead vocals.

While the bands featured on Son of Pure Rock might not be up to par with the better known metal groups of that era, the album serves as a good introduction to some bands you otherwise might not have encountered. Of the ten bands featured on the album, only Guy Mann Dude and Fighter went on to release additional material, though Angora vocalist John Corabi briefly fronted Motley Crue.

The track listing is as follows:

      1. Chalet: Can't Knock the Lady
      2. Guy Mann-Dude: Riff Rock `n Rebel
      3. Crisis: Call of the Wild
      4. Enticer: One Way Ticket
