Product Description

1994, Cyber records Holland. Arguably one of the most memorable moments in the once thriving early/mid 90s death metal scene. If you recall fondly albums like Crematory's "...Just dreaming" or Amorphis' "Tales from the 1000 lakes", you'll either be familiar with this gem, or have at least heard of it. One of the most original, and compelling pieces of music-art pressed on CD in the otherwise mundane 90s. Phlebotomized's utility of violins, pleasant interludes, and overall songwriting style was unparalleled at the time and to this day renders this one of the finest moments in death/extreme metal history. 9 tracks in total. Out of print.

5 out of 5 stars Dangerously Underrated.......2007-02-13

The early 90's spawned some of the most unique death metal bands that were far from the traditional style. Phlebotomized is one of these bands, and their 1994 debut full-length is proof.

This band has an avant-grade approach to their music and fuses different styles. Imagine taking "Tales Of A Thousand Lakes" by Amorphis and adding in some acoustic and changes in it. It even has some hardcore-style shoutouts in it as well. Each track is a wonderful adventure through a style of music that defies barriers and breaks ground.

I highly recommend this to the casual open-minded music fan. It's hard to come by, but it's worth the money.

    Album Description

This is it: The ultimate edition of TIAMAT masterpiece "Wildhoney". When the album was released back in 1994 neither the band nor the label was aware of the massive impact "Wildhoney" would have in the entire metal scene. Now, 13 years later, "Wildhoney" is considered one of the most important and influential gothic metal albums of all times.

    5 out of 5 stars Innovative Album.......2007-01-06

This album gets a lower average rating than it deserves, as it probably gets a fair share of reviewers who are not into this music genre. In other words, in mid 90s, Tiamat made a change in their direction from death metal with growls to more melodic gothic rock/metal with some mellow solos. If you like both kinds of music, you will not be dissapointed. If you like progressive rock, you will not be dissapointed. Death metal fans may be dissapointed, as this isn't music at 100 miles per hour. I say that it has a lower average rating than it deserves as you get a fair share of reviewers from outside of this genre reviewing it (mostly speed metal fans), which is often not the case with other cd's. I.e., none of you reading this will take their time to review a Britney Spears cd and write that it's the worst thing ever written (I can't believe that I am using Tiamat and Britney in the same paragraph).

So, back to this cd - every song on here is good. The words are funny in some cases (whether it was intentional or not), but all these songs are catchy with nice solos and melodies. There is some nice use of electric and acoustic guitars, which is probably why some folks say that this music is similar to Pink Floyd. I can definitely detect some Floyd influence, but similarities are really minimal. If you like this cd, you will definitely not be dissapointed with their follow-up releases: Deeper Kind of Slumber, Skeleton Skeletron, Judas Christ (their most accessible cd) and Prey.

1 out of 5 stars who the hell is this ? 1.5 stars .......2007-01-05

This certainly does not resemble the same band that released The Astral Sleep, The Summerian Cry and Clouds. This sure isnt groundbreaking or a landmark release like many have hailed it and it sure isnt metal. Why people insist on saying this is Floyd mixed with death metal is beyond me - this new version of Tiamat is not even close to sounding like Pink Floyd and it sounds nothing like death metal. To say they sound like Pink Floyd is surely a joke, I dont hear ANYTHING like Floyd's Echoes or A Saucerful of Secrets.

    What a waste.

4 out of 5 stars WHEN NATURE CALLS WE ALL SHALL DROWN.......2006-10-08

Could be better, but basicaly essential for the unbelievable track 'Gaia' which propels metal into some kind of hyper emotional, intensely atmospheric realm of shimmering, unadulterated beauty, with crystalline keyboards encasing wandering, soporific melodies which draw the listener into a vortex of heightened, synaesthetic bliss. Ahem.
The main riff in 'The Ar' is absolutely classic as well. Perahps a bit too open and spacious in places then (pointing to a lack of ideas sometimes) but when everything clicks, this easily ranks among the best and most influential metal albums ever created.

4 out of 5 stars decent but not like their debut.......2006-06-10

Very interesting album, I like most tracks, my favorites being Ar and Whatever That Hurts

    5 out of 5 stars wildhoney.......2005-12-02

Incredible atmospheric hard rock/metal. Do you dream of me? is basically pink floyd's 'goodbye cruel world' at twice the speed. I've given this CD to a hippy friend of mine who is into floyd and zeppelin and he admits that after he got used to the commercial-type-death-metal-vocals he was absolutely into this album. Wildhoney is the type of CD you should listen to with a 12 pack of beer next to you. Why Tiamat didnt continue in this direction is sadder than saying 'michael vick is a good quarterback'. I've heard newer releases from Tiamat, and this is their crowning glory.

    5 out of 5 stars Wildhoney.......2000-12-19

Johan Edlund and Co. release a real masterpiece. Wildhoney will probably stay the Tiamat's best album: I don't think Edlund himself will be able to beat it (he didn't in 'a deeper kind of slumber' nor in 'Skeleton Skeletron'). It is the best combination of Edlund's enourmous talent for songwriting, and the contribution of the band members, who still wanted to be a metal band. In this album we first observe, how melody takes over death-metal-like guitar riffs of Tiamat's previous works. Beside the fact that all songs are unique and great in their own and special way, I should mention how well are they put together, from faster and somewhat more agressive first two songs, to calm and slow last two. Wildhoney won't leave your CD player for a long time
