Andre Rieu captures the romantic's heart once again in this, what is for the most part, a passionate album.

I feel the best tracks on this album are the russian-themed ones, like the title track (which I listen to on REPEAT when I am looking through my russian countryside or Romanov family album books). I feel that this and "Lara's Theme" (Maurice Jarre's love theme from the film DR. ZHIVAGO (a wonderful book and DVD)! conveys the passion for homeland which I strongly feel beats strongest in the hearts of all russians, more than than any other people). These compositions are so beautiful that it brings tears to the eyes if one surrenders oneself to them.

I am a big fan of Andre Rieu but didnot enjoy this as much as several of his earlier recordings. It didn't have quite the zip as "Andre Rieu Live" or "The Holland I Love".

This album fills me with Joy and the Spirit of Nature, Love and Peace. The voices and music of Lisa and Ani are wonderful.

I'll never forget the first time I heard this album. I had just bought it, and slipped it in my car stereo. I was driving through the city in the rain. It was so beautiful, it was like I had been suddenly transported into a rain forest. Behind the voices there were soft flutes and gentle sounds of nature and rain. Lisa Thiel has a silky, soothing voice and sings spiritual songs oriented toward the Goddess. On this album, she teams up with Ani Williams who has a lighter, crisper voice. And together, they make an album that has almost a Native American feel to it.

Some of the songs here are included on other Lisa Thiel albums like "Rainbow Woman" and "The Giveaway Song". But these are slightly different versions, and there are PLENTY of new songs. The album has a long running time. And you come away from it feeling as though you've just visited somewhere very sacred. I consider this gentle album to be one of the highlights of my collection.

This early work of Lisa Thiel only hints at the wonderful songs she's written and sung since. Not the best of investments of either your time or your money. Try Lady of the Lake or Journey to the Goddess instead.

Digital Restoration ?????.......2006-12-27

This 1995 reissue of a classic Pointer Sisters CD is a perfect example of how not to remaster music. It sounds flat and empty. My advice is to pick up a vinyl copy instead, until someone at BMG gets their act together and remasters all the Pointer's Planet material at today's standards. It can't be that hard - just listen to some of the Hip-O-Select reissues of even earlier Pointer material - fantasic full rich sound, that you'd think was recorded today using the best facilities. This CD is a major disappointment.

Typical Eighties Music.......2005-07-31

I am a big fan of eighties music so I am trying to build up a collection of music I never heard. I took a chance with this one. My opinion of them is they are much like Loverboy and Dokken, but big on the synthesyzers. Their lyrics are a bit weak, but their voices and melodic qualities pull it together. I can remember watching movies from the eighties where kids would be together and this kind of music would be playing. In that way, it did take me back. This is a good contribution to any collection. I just had my hopes up that I would like it as much as I do my Black N Blue cd and I did not. I'm sure I will still be listening to it though. I almost gave it three stars but feel that really wouldn't be fair. Once I listen to it a few more times it will probably live up to a four with me. Anyone big on synthesyzers and angelic voices would really enjoy this. The only way I can describe it is while listening to it with my eyes closed, Loverboy, Dokken and even Warrant came to mind. They have two different singers on alternating songs. They are both very good. If you're going for something different, this is it!

1.Don't say that your mine(10/10)The guitar intro on this song will have you rockin the house down.Vocals sound great and it wouldn't be complete without the keyboards!Excellent song this is!
2.Straight from the Heart(9/10)This track has great rhythm guitar use.Totally mindblowingly fun song.I always have fun playin bass and rockin to this track.The chorus is a great sing a long.
3.Love Don't make it Right(9/10)The guitarist really shows off some more great rhythm talent here.Awesome song.This one always gets play for me on a hot summer night!Another killer chorus line with this one.

The Best From This Era!!!!!!! (And Others).......2001-03-01

These guys know how to deliver the catchiest hottest heavy pop ever written. Every song on this cd is PERFECT!! Unfortunatly this cd was about 3 or 4 years AHEAD of its time. I would go as far as to say that if these guys had released this album in 85 or 86 they would be as much a household name as any other heavy pop band you CAN name (I hate to name names becouse no one I would name is worthy of being a guitar tech for these guys). If you want to hear a very intelligent version of 80's pop metal run don't walk to your mail box to get this after you order it.

After Years of Searching, Could it Finally Be Here..........2000-11-28

When I was a kid I loved the show SWAT, some years later they brought the show back in repeats and much to my dismay, the show was terrible! I began to realize that sometimes memories are better than the real thing, happily, that is not always true. The CD release of White Sister's first album shows how good a band they were and how good their music was. It is heavy and crisp, a bit over-produced, but still very solid and inventive. I dare any first time listener not to hear their influence on other bands that came along later. The two vocalists and sharp harmonies still sound great after 15+ years. If you like 80's hair/heavy rock, tight melodies/harmonies, great musicianship and reliving your youth; then this is the CD for you! There be no need for a SWAT team here!

This isn't the White Stripes, It's "JACKY" Jack White.......2004-06-07

Although it shouldn't stop anyone from checking out the album, it should be noted that the singer-songwriter behind this record is NOT the same Jack White as the White Stripes' guitar hero. Since typing "Jack White" into Amazon will give you dozens of Jack "White Stripes" White references with a few scattered mentions of the traditional-country "Jacky Jack" White, it can be confusing, especially since (a) Jacky Jack isn't as well known as Jack White (Stripes) and (b) Jack White (Stripes) is known to play some Southern-influenced and even Carter-Sister-influenced country songs (for instance, he produced, played, and sang on the incredible new Loretta Lynn album, "Van Lear Rose", and appears on the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack).

Finding a full-blown bio on "Jacky Jack" White can be near impossible, with a Google search resulting in hundreds of Jack White (Stripes) pages for every "Jacky Jack" site. Making it even more impossible: "Jacky Jack" is often referenced simply as "Jack White", without the "Jacky" part of his nickname being mentioned, so his name is indistinguishable from that of the White Stripes' front man. It would be nice if websites like Amazon and Google could find a way of noting which man is which, and who did which album, as a lot of confusion seems to have erupted now and again due to the name situation (and Jack-Stripes' fervent and tremendous output in just a few short years, combined with gaggles of coverage).

Personally, right now (2004), I prefer the music and producing of Jack "White Stripes" White... but "Jacky Jack" White is an award-winning singer-songwriter in his own right, and even if you haven't heard him sing, you've probably heard a cover or two of one of his songs, since he's been a popular songwriter on-and-off for a couple of decades. And the Carter Sisters, of course, are dynamite -- traditional folk/country from back when Country Music was cool and rebellious, and not just the corporate-radio all-sounds-the-same Red-State Light-Republican-Rock of today.

"Jacky Jack" is getting back to the roots of country here, and working with the last recordings of the Carter Sisters, so this album is much more in line with the alternative/indie country-roots-rock movement than the "I own a new gas-guzzling off-road pick-up truck even though I work in an office and live in the suburbs" Contemporary Country. And although it's not going to rock you like the White Stripes, devastate you like Johnny Cash, move you like Wilco, or amuse you like Will (Bonnie Prince/Palace Bros.) Oldham or Ryan "I'm not Brian" Adams, it's still worth checking out (if for no other reason than to know firsthand the difference between the two Jack Whites). It's a solid album.

But after you're done exploring the two Jacks, and admiring Van Lear Rose and old-school Parton and Loretta, check out some earth-shattering Emmylou Harris, mind-blowing Graham Parsons, and criminally-hip old-school Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson for a real taste of honky-tonk country as it was meant to be (one last hint: search for "Mermaid Avenue" as an appetizer, and you'll begin to see just how much country has influenced even the best modern rock. Interestingly, "Jacky Jack" is supposedly a huge Brian Jones fan, so rock is influencing country right back, of course).

Totally unique, original..ain't that great !!.......2004-06-05

"Southern Songbook" is an historic C.D. The last recording by the amazing Carter Sisters, Helen, and Anita, minus June.That said, Jacky Jack is an amazingly different,totaaly individual performer. Love his songs about the South.Still, there is just something so unique to his writing, playing, and singing.I saw one of his shows in North Carolina and was so blown away by his humour, pathos, and superb musicianship.The best song on this C.D. is "Don't Rize Above Your Razin." Obviously, Jack's "razin'" insinuates and weaves itself through his magnificently flawed voice, and wonderful lyrics.Jacky Jack is a modern Southern Oracle.
