4 out of 5 stars Hair Band.......2007-08-01

Good rockin' CD. Kiss of Fire is like one of the best songs ever recorded!

3 out of 5 stars A good album.......2007-04-15

I have had this on cassette for many years and am pleased that I now own it on CD. This self-titled American debut from the Japanese band E-Z-O was originally released in 1987. This remastered Japanese import version came out in 2005. The CD's packaging is remarkable because it simulates that of a record--an interesting touch. This is a straight-up hard rock album that exhibits solid songwriting, tight musicianship, and gratifying quality of sound. Nine songs are contained. They run the gamut from slow burners--"Mr. Midnight"--to uptempo hard rockers, "Desiree." In addition, the album's music displays an intriguing, serious tone. I enjoy Masaki's memorable vocals which sport versatility; his singing ranges from being gravelly ("House of 1,000 Pleasures") to being smooth--"Here It Comes." Guitarist Shoyo not only is talented, but he is also creative. His rhythm guitar work and soloing are impressive. He decorates the tunes with imaginative embellishments, too. My favorite tracks are "Destroyer" and "Kiss of Fire." The vigorous "Destroyer" contains a pleasing main guitar riff from Shoyo that is regal and striking; also, Masaki provides commanding vocals, and Hiro supplies propulsive drumming. The catchy, energetic "Kiss of Fire" presents an engaging, hard-driving intro, an infectious refrain (which includes a pleasant wordless vocal melody), and suave singing from Masaki on the verses. Examples of other compositions that I find to be enjoyable are "House of 1,000 Pleasures," "Flashback Heart Attack," "Here It Comes," and "I Walk Alone." "House of 1,000 Pleasures" starts off as a slow burner, but shifts into a fleet-paced hard rocker during the ending section--Masaki also infuses some cool vocalizing on the outro. Along with an ominous beginning, Shoyo puts down an indelible guitar solo on "Flashback Heart Attack." The lively "Here It Comes" has a nicely crafted intro (included is Hiro's taut drum work) and a euphonious guitar solo from Shoyo. The stirring "I Walk Alone" displays a curious-sounding guitar solo from Shoyo; also, Masaki's vocals are gritty on the verses, but smooth on the chorus, something that works well and is interesting. The CD packaging includes the lyrics to the songs and an unforgettable color photo of each member of the group in kabuki make-up, along with interesting hairstyles. The disc is almost 36 minutes. This piece of work is recommendable.

5 out of 5 stars Great album that Gene Simmons gulped up.......2006-10-02

Gene Simmons is the kiss of death to new bands. He destroyed Black and Blue, Wendy O and EZO.

This album is killer. The sound and songs are fantastic with real tasty playing thruout. I think they came around a little late for the 80's success but they certainly were better the most metal bands of the time.

The only thing not so good is the lyrics. They are pretty much standard meaningless drivel (Simmons must have helped). The vocals are great. The musicians are all good. Production is good.

Album should be made available at a decent price in America. I liked this when it came out and I still like it. I expected them to sell but they just seemed to fall away. To Bad.

5 out of 5 stars under rated!.......2006-06-25

This is probably one of the most under rated groups of the 80's!
Very incredible song writting, same of the most catchy tunes from this era...I highly recommend this cd!!!

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!!!!.......2005-07-14

EZO is a japanese rock band with a lot of potential, great songs and great musicians!!!
This album was produced by the one and only, Gene Simmons (do I have to say more??) and was not successful at the time, and I really don't know why, cause it's a heavy metal album!!!
You'll gonna love it, I bet, but if you don't (wich I doubt), send me the CD, cause I still have my LP!!!

4 out of 5 stars Great album but not as good as their first........2006-10-02

EZO's first album was killer. The second Fire Fire is also very good but not quite as good as the debut. Lyrics are a little better on Fire Fire and the melodies are all quite good. Playing and vocals are great. The album has more material then teh debut album but it does get a little redundant as the album play thus my 4 instead of 5 star rating.

These guys had talent. Much more then they got credit for if sales speak for it. EZO was much better then Loudness in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Omigod, Japan has a really good rock band!.......2005-10-28

Fire Fire came out around the time of GNR's Appetite for Destruction and reminded me of the time when alot of bands wanted to capture the sounds that were similar to Appetite for Destruction. If you missed that sound of the late '80s and early '90s before grunge took over, then Fire Fire is a great CD. No, they're not a hair band. They actually have talent. They hailed from Japan and was part of a late 80's, early 90's movement by Japanese Heavy Metal bands that released albums in English.

It's nice to hear this remastered!

EZO was a band that caught the eyes of Kiss's Gene Simmons. They also toured as an opening band for GNR at one point.

This CD captured the sounds of 1989 as this was the era of hard rock before grunge took over. Great rough vocals that sounds like it was raked over gravel. I loved the guitars as it reminds me of true hard rock before the feedback noise of grunge became popular. EZO had the looks of a hair band but their music surpasses the fluff of Enuff-Z-Nuff, Poison, Warrant. Thankfully EZO had talent. It has that angry sound that made GNR's Appetite for Destruction a great CD.

Internal dissention and poor label support broke up the band after this CD.

The lead singer and drummer left to join legendary Japanese hard rock band Loudness.

EZO was actually the only Japanese Heavy Metal band that I loved....

They will be missed....

5 out of 5 stars Great !!!.......2005-07-14

4 out of 5 stars EZO - 'Fire Fire' (WEA).......2006-12-25

Good late '80's Japanese metal release.Just happen to come across my own personal copy of this CD,which I plan to keep.Haven't heard it in ages.Tracks that'll have me keeping this title in my current semi-rotation stack are the high-energy opening rocker "Love Junkie","Night Crawler"(this tune has special meaning to me),"Burn Down The Night",the awesome "She's Ridin' The Rhythm" and "Million Miles Away".Also seem to recall "Streetwalker" from(maybe I think)being played on the old Z-Rock.Line-up:Masaki Yamada-vocals,Shoyo Iida-guitar,Taro Takahashi-bass and Hiro Homma-drums.Should appeal to fans of Kix,fellow Jap metal merchants Loudness,Cinderella, the first two Motley Crue albums and maybe Poison.A should-have.

3 out of 5 stars A satisfying album.......2006-10-26

Fire Fire, from EZO, was released in 1989. The album is made up of 11 tracks. The material is in a no-frills hard rock musical direction. Overall, the songwriting is tight, the musicianship is skilled, and the sound quality is gratifying. Masaki Yamada is an interesting, gravelly-sounding vocalist. Shoyo Iida's guitar playing is cool, too. Plus, Hiro Homma's high-hat cymbal work sounds pleasing and crisp in the mix. My favorite songs are "Fire Fire" and "Million Miles Away." Iida's rhythm guitar work is engaging on "Fire Fire"--in addition, his guitar solo is nicely crafted, memorable, and melodic. "Million Miles Away" displays a catchy chorus and appealing rhythm guitar playing from Iida. An example of another composition that I like is "She's Ridin' the Rhythm"; Homma's drum intro is indelible. The CD booklet includes the song lyrics, and a color photo of the band is displayed on the back of the CD jewel case. The disc is almost 49 minutes. Fire Fire is recommendable.

3 out of 5 stars The other Japanese hard rock band.......2006-07-14

EZO was the other Japanese hard rock/heavy metal band from the 1980's. Comparisons to Loudness are inevitable, especially since vocalist Masaki Yamada would go on to join that band, but EZO's style tends more towards a sleazier, KISS meets AC/DC meets a case of Aqua Net hairspray kind of sound. Yamada sings in a fairly high pitched, raspy style that is somewhere between Mark Slaughter and Tom Kiefer.

1989's Fire Fire was the band's second major label album. To be perfectly honest, this is nothing you haven't heard from dozens of other hair metal bands from that era. Song titles like "Love Junkie" and "She's Ridin' the Rhythm" tell you exactly what you've got in store. Beyond the fact that they're from Japan, there really isn't anything that makes EZO stand out from the pack. That's not to say Fire Fire is a bad album. I own it, and find myself spinning it from time to time. It's just not one of the era's better releases.

4 out of 5 stars Now for something completely different..........2004-12-11

This was the first album by EZO. It spawned 2 videos played on Mtv's Headbangers Ball (Flashback heartattack, and Kiss of Fire). I enjoyed this almost alternative sounding metal a great deal. The vocals are raw and harsh and fit the music perfectly, the lyrics are dark and heavy. The guitar work is inovative and imaginative. Definately worth the money.
