Customer Reviews:
Bridge between 'Overkill' and 'Ace of Spades'.......2006-10-15
Motorhead was probably the nastiest, loudest and bombastic band to ever emerge from the British punk scene, although they are not a punk band per se. What attracted metal fans and punks alike was a stripped down fast loud approach to balls-to-the-wall rock and roll - punky spirit with metal's chops.
'Bomber', the third assault by this three man panzer division, is a must have for those who still prefer the old classic lineup days with Fast Eddie Clarke and Philthy Animal Taylor alongside Lemmy Kilmister, now the only original member left.
Clarke especially gave Motorhead its signature sound with huge fat guitars and bluesy leads that added some class to the mix. Not that this meant Motorhead were anything but fast, loud and crude. It is incredible to remember that 1979 saw 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' in the stores alongside disco, the BeeGees, and other horrible acts too numerous to mention.
"Stone Dead Forever" and the title track are just two gems on this punishing CD. Fans will delight to the retakes and live cuts on the bonus CD, which sound better than the bonus tracks on 'Ironfist'. It's migraine inspiring, rude and perfect for ruining anybody's day who isn't a Motorheadbanger.
rock solid.......2006-06-11
you know what your gonna get when you purchase a Motorhead cd...no frills, balls out, sweaty dirty rock and roll; and Bomber stands up as a highlight in their expansive catalogue. the songs are tight and the playing is solid and strong. the main album alone is a great buy but this additional cd adds some nice touches for fans....a few live songs and some alternate versions.
Brilliant.......2005-12-20
This far one of Motorheads best cds. The vocals were great the lyrics were terrific and the instrumental parts were just super amazing.
Too many fillers.......2005-11-05
This is a very similar album to Iron Fist, in the sense that it too was the follow-up of an absolute classic Motorhead album (Overkill cq Ace of Spades), in the sense that it too was thrown on the market too hastily and in the sense that it too contains too many fillers to be a really strong album. Sad but true, it was this sloppiness in putting out records that explains to a large degree why Motorhead never became as big as Maiden or Priest.
This said, three of the best Motortunes ever are on this CD. The live sensation Bomber, the awesome Stone Dead Forever (in my top-5 of all-time best Motorhead songs), and the slow paced, chilling Lawman should feature in every metal / punk / rock enthousiast's iPod collection. Enough reasons to buy the CD? Sure, but not before you've bought Overkill, Ace of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Inferno and On Parole.
70s classic .......2005-08-28
By the late 70s Black Sabbath had wasted their leading position in heavy music and Judas Priest and Motorhead were the rightful heirs to the throne. Though neither one of those two are really among my favourite bands. There's no denying the classic status of this album though. Filled with simple, groundbreaking rock & roll, unbelievably raw and heavy for the time (1978). Every Motorhead fan will own this album. If you, like me, are not one of those, then the No Remorse album (a compilation of their early years) will please you more. That compilation is all killer no filler, this album is not. Still some great songs though, most notably the title track and my favourite Motorhead song, Stone Dead Forever. Production is good (on the remaster, I don't own the original). If you are new to Motorhead, then this is one of the albums to start with. Worth checking out.

Album Description
To commemorate Motorhead's 30th anniversary show, which took place June 16, 2005, at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, U.K., Sanctuary consulted with Lemmy to release the legendary 1979 Bomber album in all its glory... plus a few extra tracks! The two-CD Bomber: Deluxe Edition stands as a landmark within the speed-metal pantheon. The album is held in high esteem by Motorhead fans and reached number 12 in the charts on its release, while the title track also landed them a Top 40 hit. This remastered edition of the album includes a second disc of live versions and rare tracks, encapsulating for the first time Motorhead's recordings from this period. Sanctuary. 2005.
Customer Reviews:
Number three from Motorhead is another heavy metal classic.......2006-01-28
Bomber (1979.) The third Motorhead studio album. Their second of two studio albums released in 1979.
INTRODUCTION:
When Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was arrested and exiled from his old band, Hawkwind, he wasn't about ready to stop making music. After getting back on track, he formed a new trio called Motorhead, named for a song he originally performed back in his Hawkwind days. The band, once a steady lineup had been formed, recorded their debut album in 1977, and while it featured an excellent, raw classic metal sound, it did little to attract public attention. But not long thereafter, the band was ready to try it again. In 1979, the band recorded and released the much better-received Overkill album, and followed it up just months later with the equally well-received Bomber album. Read on for my review of the third album from the classic metal trio!
OVERVIEW:
Motorhead released the Bomber album on the Bronze Records label on October 27, 1979. In this era, the band consisted of its classic lineup of Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister on vocals and bass, "Fast" Eddie Clarke on guitar, and "Philthy Animal" Phil Taylor. Tracklist for the Bomber album consists of Dead Men Tell No Tales, Lawman, Sweet Revenge, Sharpshooter, Poison, Stone Dead Forever, All The Aces, Step Down, Talking Head, and Bomber.
REVIEW:
To put it in simplest terms possible, if you liked the Overkill album, you're going to like the Bomber album as well. Essentially, what this album does is continues in the same direction the band began traversing on Overkill. It's just as hard and heavy, and certainly no less entertaining, with its own share of hit singles. Let's take a look at the tracklist, and see how these compositions fare!
-SIDE A-
-Dead Men Tell No Tales: Motorhead starts their third album out in top form. Many a Motorhead fan holds this song in high regard, and rightfully so. It's amazing how popular the song became, despite not being released as a single. With its hard-rocking riffs from Clarke, and an all-around heavy sound that is unrivaled in its excellence, Kilmister and the boys could not have started the album off better than this.
-Lawman: If you listen to Motorhead's albums rather than their compilations, one thing you'll discover rather quickly is that the band has a lot of underrated album tracks that were never released as singles or gained any great fame. This song is a prime example of that. It's a very bluesy song, but no less heavy than what you're used to hearing from the trio. Despite its relative lack of popularity, this is an all-around excellent song.
-Sweet Revenge: For the third track on the album, the group slows the pace down and takes on a fairly gloomy sound. Still, they don't rock any less hard as a result of the slowing down. Every member of the band, once again, is in his prime. The trio does an excellent job here, creating a song that many of the band's die-hard fans tend to hold in high regard.
-Sharpshooter: After a slower, gloomier number, the band picks up the pace and goes back to rocking fast and hard on this one. Once again, the entire band is on top of things. With memorable hard rock melodies and lyrics alike, it's surprising that this song didn't gain the status and popularity that many of the other songs on the album did. Still, it's awesome all the way through, and any die-hard Motorhead fan knows how excellent it is.
-Poison: Some songs manage to fuse the best of two totally different worlds - and this is one of them. The melodies in this song are vintage Motorhead, rocking hard in such a manner that any fan would be impressed. The lyrics, on the other hand, are actually rather comical, with Kilmister singing about a wife he hates. This is one of those songs you have to hear to appreciate.
-SIDE B-
-Stone Dead Forever: Despite never being released as a single, this song became one of the most popular songs Motorhead ever recorded. Although the later live version from the live Golden Years EP would be the more popular and more well-received version, the original studio version is a masterpiece in its own right. From start to finish, Kilmister and company rock fast and hard, and never let up the intensity of their hard rock assault. Any fan of the band will be able to tell you that this song is a Motorhead masterpiece. And after one listen, you'll agree with that remark.
-All The Aces: One heavy metal assault on the senses is followed up with another one. Once again, the band serves up a fast-paced number that rocks hard, rocks fast, and never fails to please any fan of heavy metal. Clarke really steals the show with his guitar riffs here - not surprisingly. I shouldn't have to tell you this song is another masterpiece.
-Step Down: This is another prime example of vintage Motorhead. It's one of the many tunes that is hard and heavy, and has everything a listener could want from a heavy metal song. The band never fails to please its fans, and once again, they prive that point.
-Talking Head: Every Motorhead album has an abundance of underrated, unpopular album tracks that are actually quite excellent. On this album, this is a fine example of that phenomenon. Not surprisingly, the band's classic heavy metal sound returns with a vengeance, as heavy as ever. For its whole duration, this one rocks.
-Bomber: With so many awesome tracks on this album, and so many that gained status as Motorhead classics, it's hard to believe the title track is the only song on the entire album that was released as a single. Not surprisingly, like most Motorhead albums with a title track, the title track here became the most popular song on the record. With that classic Motorhead sound it's impossible not to love if you're a metal fan, the trio finishes off the album in style.
OVERALL:
There you have it. Motorhead's third album is awesome from start to finish - definitely a worthy follow-up to the classic overkill. There's a reason this is one of the band's most popular albums of all - it rules, and it succeeds on all fronts. Unfortunately, the success of this album is generally overshadowed by both its predecessor, and the even more popular follow-up, Ace Of Spades. If you're at all a fan of heavy metal, Motorhead's third studio release is one that is well worth adding into your collection! Don't even think about passing this one by if hard rock is your thing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
EDITION NOTES:
Many of Motorhead's albums were recently remastered and reissued, with an entire second disc's worth of bonus material! These are now the definitive editions of the albums available on CD. If you plan on buying Motorhead's albums, make sure you get the versions with two CDs! Any fan is sure to get a kick out of the non-album bonus tracks, which include B-Sides, live tracks, and previously unreleased studio sessions/alternate takes etc. Definitely get these versions! You won't regret doing so.
