I was disappointed. I thought I would be getting a CD of full length themes from his movies but the CD is exactly what it says. It is from the actual films, in sections and pieces. I can't say it was misrepresented so I guess I was at fault. But I am sorry I bought it.

As the previous reviewer rightly pointed out, these are the original recordings from the era the films were made. And yes, the sound is completely different from what we are used to hear when we are turning the CD player on: it's mono, it's partially unsteady and some of the pieces suddenly fade. BUT, it's the REAL thing and it transports the charms and the charisma, inherent to the original ONLY.
Those who prefer the flawless technical perfection of a re-recording better should save their money. But for those who love the movies and their genuine sound, should be perfectly pleased with this release.

most of the tracks on this cd are available elsewhere, but what prompts me to give this a low review is the quality of the recording. some of them sound like they were taped off of a tv set showing a warbly print. you can do better elsewhere.

              Recorded live to digital audio in 1985, during the sixty concerts of 'Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia' and 'The United Jazz & Rock Ensemble'European Tour, this CD features the famous English drummer Jon Hiseman busy here with five 'drum solos', on average vey long, extremely demanding, hard and ambitious; it will be enough to read the summary of the album, as follows:1)Solo Berlin-The Metropol, 15:58; 2)Ganz Schon Heiss, Man-Big, 4:41; 3)Ganz Schon Heiss, Man-Mennheim, 10:36; 4)Solo Hannover-The Pavilion, 8:04; 5)Solo Hamburg-The Road To Berlin, 15:26 (Total Time, 55:05).
              After listening carefully to the album, there is no doubt that the great Blackheath drummer, about 40 years old at the time, passes brightly the difficult test he himself decided to undergo - from late eighties to early nineties - with the hazardous, off-beat release (it came out as vinyl record in 1986, then in CD format in 1991).
              Once more, actually, and no proof was needed, his 'drumming' definitely manages to catch on, with all its strenght and energy and its valuable technical skill (here in an authentically 'jazz-fusion' context and approach). From forte to fortissimo, from piano to pianissimo, from slow to very slow, then gradually work up to speed; from cymbals to toms to kettle-drums, from charleston to the unique and powerful double bassdrum pedal; in short, all fields, sections, dimensions in the art of drumming are properly, and with incomparable skill, -in these 'a solos' - explored and exploited by Hiseman.
              We may gasp in amazement - I was thinking about that, while listening to the album again and again - when we glance through some updated international music fortunately, not always and not frequently - Hiseman is not even mentioned, while drummers belonging to younger generations, and thus riding the crest of the wave, stand out; they may be skillful, of couse, but not at the level of such as a master, with whom they cannot compare.
              We can't forget, actually, that Jon Hiseman, during his glamorous artistic history lasting 40 years, has been playing with such artists as Graham Bond, John Mayall, Jack Bruce, John Mc Laughlin and with such bands as Colosseum, Tempest, Colosseum II, The United Jazz & Rock Ensemble, Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia, covering all fields of 'progressive' music, ranging from rock-blues to sympho-rock, from hard-rock to his beloved jazz-rock fusion, always keeping the unity and the stylistic coherence unsullied, and obtaining, mostly, highly valuable and utmost interesting results.
              One last observation: in his present album "About time too!", Hiseman already plays with the 'Pearl Drums', his favourite instrument throughout his last twenty-twentyfive years, that is an excellent instrument, but with a - relative - tendency to close and compress the sounds. Nothing to say about that. But I think - maybe I'm wrong - that the highest and most successful moment of his 'drumming' could be sought and found in his 'Colosseum II' period, from 1976 to 1978, in his rhythhmic challanges faced together with the 'Roger Drums' (clearer sounds, open and rich in harmonics), when the English drummer managed to carry out (together with Billy Cobham, the only at the same level), a 'drumming' that turns to be almost perfect in its impressive synthesis of skill and fancy, strenght, rapidity and power, a 'drumming' that, in this respect, for its amazing synergy of energy, velocity and elegance, can work even now as a model, since it is, mostly, still unsurpassed.
              An excellent addition to any progressive music collection: four stars.
