2 out of 5 stars Pissing Awful Album.......2005-12-02

This album sucks. I'm only giving it more than 1 star because this band (believe it or not) is related to the same band that came out with the awesome Fields of Disbelief album.

The vocals on this album suck. The vocalist's attempt at sounding like a harcore badass doesn't work; it's not even close to the vocal work of the band's first vocalist Joe Rodriguez. Even this guy's singing voice, which is barely distinguishable from his yelling, isn't good (as if Pissing Razors should have lots of singing anyway.)

Secondly, a lot of the guitar work isn't interesting. Hanging on the Cross, for instance, has the most uninteresting chorus riff ever.

Thirdly, the drumming isn't like it was on earlier albums, which had more interesting rhythms and complexity (more double bass.)

Fourthly, there are only 10 songs on this as opposed to the 13 or 14 that were on their good albums (and two songs are identical bar one having spanish vocals.)

Lastly, the music is slowed down from previous albums, as if the whole band turned 80 years old and somehow convinced themselves that what they recorded was fast-paced, stimulating music.

It's obvious the band put no time into this album at all, and for that I am ashamed of Pissing Razors, a band that obviously had talent before they nixed Joe Rodriguez and a couple worthy guitarists.
This album is at best an awful attempt to better their original sound and at worst is a total insult to their better albums. Do yourself a couple favors: get the album Fields of Disbelief instead of this and ask this band why they decided to start sucking.

3 out of 5 stars good album but my least favorite PR album.......2005-02-18

This album is a good album, don't get me wrong...I love the Pissing Razors but this has to be my least favorite album from them. I see why they titled their album Evolution because they were experimenting with a few new styles but it's hard to evolve as a band when you can never keep the same members, it makes it harder that way. I'll still headbang to this album for sure, and im sure it will grow on me eventually but their earlier albums were their best! pick em all up!

2 out of 5 stars Oh dear, what a pity..........2005-02-01

Just when you thought that you had found a band that you could rely on, they suddenly lose what you loved so much about them. I am a solid metal fan: love the old school 80ties thrash (old metallica, megadeth, corrosion of conformity, slayer) and 90ties crunch (pantera, sepultura, orange goblin, electric wizard, cathedral, carcass); I even love some of the black and death metal stuff (opeth, cradle, gandalf, typeOnegative).

Then New Metal became popular and strong with many bands and a sound that I was not able to enjoy or find any integrity in. But in 98 I heard songs from Pissing Razors self titled debut album before it was released and thought "oh good, a band with the things I really like about strong solid metal." Sure enough the album is great. Then they followed up with other albums that all differed in their level of song craftmanship. Yet the constant was their unmistakable sound. Yes it is influenced by Pantera, Fear Factory and Sepultura but that detracts nothing from their own integrity and the great sound they had.... yes had, because this album seems to have lost focus and "Tool"esque riffs and song twist have krept their way into their songs. Such a pity. Their music never really changed my world but I did think that I could rely on them for a head bashing set of songs to rock out to. This mistakenly made album or heaven forbid new direction just lost me as a fan.

Oh well, at least I've got 4 albums of theirs to keep me happy.

3 out of 5 stars There's No Mellowing Here.......2003-10-24

Pissing Razors recipe is a pretty straight forward one: Add no-frills punishing riffs to Pantera-like rock solid rhythms and growl about greed and corruption in society. There you have it. The only difference between these guys and other bands in the genre is...Pissing Razors are actaully good at it and sound very natural doing it. Of course, that also many there are no surprises here, but Razors fans shouldn't worry. Eddy Garcia's double bass pedals are still on display in "Hanging On The Cross" and new guitarist Matt Difabio serves up Metallica meets Maiden galloping riffs on the title track. If anything, the change in personnel this time around has made the band heavier(if that's possible) and more enraged. For evidence, listen to the refrain of "trusting you is like a disease, my fists will cure you," in "Two Face Devil." Need I say more? Probably not. Pissing Razors is heavy as hell and out to wake you up, whether you want it or not.

3 out of 5 stars A Short Review.......2007-06-22

You can take the length of this review as a sign of me being lazy, but there really isn't much to say. I can sum up everything you need to know about this album in three words: average Pantera clone.

5 out of 5 stars Best Pissing Razors CD.......2002-09-15

If you like heavy metal, then this cd is for you. i think its the best pissing razors cd. Forever is personally my favorite song on the cd.

5 out of 5 stars BONECRUSHING HEAVY BRILLIANCE.......2002-02-08

Pissing Razors are the closest sound to Pantera, without copying. Probabaly the heaviest guitar sound. At least on par with Dimebag and Zakk Wylde. The predominant vocals almost steal the show but overall this is a must have album for any self proclaimed metal head. With neck snappers like 'Truth in disguise' and 'Reality of war', you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good!.......2001-12-07

This CD is far better than their self-titled release. This is very heavy. It's good to listen to when you are angry. The album's peaks are "Mass Corruption" and "Cast Down The Plague". I would reccomend this CD to anybody who likes Pantera or Fear Factory.

5 out of 5 stars Your ears will bleed..........2001-03-18

...and that's a good thing!

Pissing Razors delivers a worthy follow up to their debut self-titled album. It somehow manages to take the unrelenting hardness of their previous release and make it more melodic and more addictive. You can clearly see how much they smoothed over all of the rough edges from their first CD and became much more coordinated in their aural assault against America. I personally love the faster, more complicated track "Box Life", the lighter, yet somehow still brutal "Away", and the song that reminisces of Pissing Razors, the album, "Mass Corruption", which opens the CD picking up where the last CD left off.

4 out of 5 stars A Really Good Pure Heavy Metal Release.......2003-03-10

As it has been said before, Pissing Razors, Skinlab, and Pantera are - basically - the only true heavy metal bands left in the music world, and I could not agree with that more. Pissing Razor's self titled debut has both its share of good and bad, but is a great album non-the-less. With Joe Rodiguez's stellar vocals, Matt Lynch's excellent guitar shredding, and production from the immaculate Andy Sneap (Skinlab). Pissing Razors has taken the riffs of old school metal and fused it with new school bass lines to create a great example of heavy metal in its purest form. Though it does contain some - for lack of a better term - bad moments (the intro to "Life of a Lunatic" and the whole of the terrible "Silent Hatred" - Joey C.'s rapping (yes, rapping) is absolutely dreadful and ruins a great riff) but the good out weighs the bad. Even though I thought 'Where We Come From' and 'Fields of Disbelief' were much better than this, "Permanent" is tied with "Burning Bridges" for the best Pissing Razors song. Also, "For What it's Worth" and "Tortured" are two excellent tracks (not to mention the cools-as-hell interlude "Sounds (of Doom)"). All in all, I have to recommend this to anybody who loves heavy metal.

If you like this, I would definitely recommend their latest album, "Where We Come From" (not the song on this album), to everybody, it dwarfs this.

5 out of 5 stars Where We Come From.......2002-02-12

I followed the band since they started playing at a local bar in their home town, El Paso, Tx. Eversince, I knew the boys had talent...This CD will be a a deep-down dirty reality check of what music is all about...The intensity of this record will knock you of the face of the earth...Be introduced to real talent and originality!

5 out of 5 stars Ungodly Hardcore.......2001-03-18

This is just insanely vicious, violent, and insane. Their sound has a few rough edges compared to Cast Down The Plague and Fields of Deceit, but it still deserves 5 stars becuase songs like "Tortured", "Life Of A Lunatic", and "Season To Die" deliver the hardcore guitar violence that fans of Pissing Razors have come to expect. This CD set a precedent for Pissing Razors that has never been undercut or compromised.

5 out of 5 stars Hell raising anthems!.......2000-12-25

Very cool, hard core rythum guitar hooks. My favorites are "Tortured" and "Where We Come From". The singer's voice is the perfect counterpart to the wall of guitars too. All that I can say is that listening to this disc has me good and ready to go out and raise hell! These dudes are poised for world domination.

5 out of 5 stars loud, hard, violen, what metal is all about.......2000-04-26

Why aren't these guys up there with fear factory? Pissing razors are truly one of todays best metal bands. Every single song is awesome, except "sounds" because it's not actually a song, you'll see for yourself when you buy this album because I know you will. In my opinion I'd say they mostly sound like fear factory without the industrial sounds. The lead singer has a deep voice and he sometimes harmonizes his voice much like Burton C. Bell. This drummer is incredibly talented, he even wrote every song! If you like this album I would strongly reccommend you checking out substAnce d, who are also signed to Noise records and sound alot like the razors.

4 out of 5 stars Pure brutality.......2003-06-16

Excellent (although a tad repetative) southern-fried metal. Much better than the mediocre follow-up "Where We Come From" (with a new lead singer, mind you). Similar to Pantera (although a little heavier) or Skinlab.

5 out of 5 stars ... success story..........2002-08-18

I downloaded a few tracks .. and wound up buying some PR CD's. This is like speed metal with a GROOVE. Some people mistakely try to compare PR to Pantera, but to me Pantera sounds way too "ordinary". These PR guitar grooves will flatten [you] the way an 18 wheeler can. Too bad PR never got major label backing to produce a 100G video. Everybody and everybody's kid brother might already be familiar with this band.

3 out of 5 stars More like 2.5, but I'll be generous.......2002-04-30

What's with all this "Heavy as Hell!!!" reviews? Anyone who thinks this is beyond heavy doesn't listen to enough heavy music. Check out Satyricon's Rebel Extravaganza or Cryptopsy's Whisper Supremacy or even Slayer's Reign In Blood (recorded 15 years before this) for some real heavy stuff.

But being really heavy doesn't automatically make music good, just as not being so heavy doesn't make music bad. But I can honestly say that this is not that good. Much of the guitar work is simple and there are no solos. This would be OK if the music had a good feel (once again, see Satyricon or many other black metal bands), but this reeks of unoriginality and has no real feel. If you like Death metal then this won't be heavy enough. If you like black metal then this doesn't sound anything like it. If you like technicality look elsewhere.

It isn't hectic, it isn't brutal and it isn't original. So if you want something heavy then buy something else.

5 out of 5 stars heavy as hell good ol solid metal.......2001-04-08

PISSING RAZORS OWN ALL HARDCORE METAL!!!!!!BETTER THAN EVERY BAND IN HARDCORE PUNK METAL!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars What did you expect?.......2001-03-18

Once again, Pissing Razors delivers frantic hardcore with the intensity that defines who they are. After the years that have gone by since Pissing Razors released their first CD, they have still barely changed, except to fine-tune their instrumentals, which I think are a little more complex than anything they have done so far. This is exhibited in the more melodic "Between Heaven and Hell", the demonically heavy, bass-ridden "Fork Tongue", and especially the song I think displays Pissing Razor's talent most, "The Other Side", which has an unexpectedly melodic, yet still flawlessly delivered tone to it.

To ANYBODY out there who likes hardcore music, Pissing Razors take the genre one step further than it has ever been before!

3 out of 5 stars In Your Face And Nasty.......2003-10-24

That pretty much sums up this live set from Tejas' metallers Pissing Razors, who rival fellow Texans, Pantera, with their inexorable drive to slam as many riffs into a single song as possible. That they can do this well in an old school metal context is a testament to their talent. New vocalist Andre Acosta does his best Phil Anselmo grunt impersonation on such visceral cuts as "World Of Deceit" and "Fork Tongue," sounding very convincing behind the band's double bass drum grooves and jackhammer riffs. The rest of the band rides the edges of coming apart on "Vengeance Is Mine" and the plain brutal "Justice Denied," but manages to keep it together. The only problem with their downright militaristic approach is that the songs begin to bleed into one another about halfway through the disc. Acosta even has the same spiel at the beginning of almost every song, inciting audience participation. All told though, these guys are far better live than in the studio and this proves it.

4 out of 5 stars Pissing Razors- what more can i say.......2003-04-08

Anybody who is a fan of tha razors knows that there's nuthin better than to hear these guys live....trust me I know. This is a great compilation that includes all of there heavy tunes from all there albums. the only flaw is that u can tell when they que in the audience; kinda kills that vibe but im not listening to the crowd anyway. Great cd to add to the metal collection. I would also like to point out my service with Amazon. I couldn't get any better service from anywhere. They were fast and convenient and im extremely pleased i recommmend anybody to use amazon.com as there place to buy cds and other items, there prices cant be beat. Thanx alot Amazon and keep up tha great work.

4 out of 5 stars In True Razors Fashion.......2002-12-28

This CD is without a doubt one of the better Live CDs I've heard. Having seen them live myself, I'd say that this record most definitely captures the energy and intensity they have on stage. It sounds so close to the actual studio versions of the songs, its insane. The new singer, Andre Acosta, definitely has that east-coast hardcore vibe to his vocals...which is certainly not a bad thing. When Jason Bragg left, after chatting with him personally, I was upset and skeptical as to how the band would sound without him. This CD took my skepticism and shattered it to a bloody pulp. This is a must have for a Razors fan. Ear shattering vocals, driving guitar rythms, and Eddy Garcias drum work is superior as always with the bass matchin up perfectly with both the guitar and drums. Whoever mixed this CD did a very good job making everything sound clear. Some of the older songs to look out for are...Desparado, Three, Fork Tongue, Burning Bridges, Tortured and Dodging Bullets. Long live the Razors!

4 out of 5 stars Pissing...Me Off (You Didn't See that Cheesy Pun Coming, Did You?).......2006-02-09

I'd give this 3.5 stars out of 5 if I could, but since I can't, I'm giving Pissing Razors the benefit of a 4.

Taken by itself, this album isn't bad. Considering what Pissing Razors was before this though, it is a step back for them musically for the following reasons:

1.) Declining production quality - It's noticeably worse than on previous albums, as the bass guitar and drum are underpowered. Still not too bad though.

2.) Worse instrumentation - The instrumentation arguably takes a turn for the simpler and weaker at points in the album. Again, still not too bad overall though.

3.) Worse vocals - This is where this album loses most of its points. Although then new vocalist Jay Bragg sounds very capable at certain points, there are many others in which he he does not. His regular screaming isn't as powerful as former vocalist Joe Rodriguez's. It's as if he's struggling to get the words out of his throat when Bragg yells. His wails and actual singing are fine, however.

4.) Less songs and less song variety than on the previous album -
The previous album had something like 14 songs on it, while this album only has 10. This results in less listening time for their music as opposed to previous works. As for variety, most of the songs seem to have the same tone and basic structure. The previous album had some very heavy songs (like Ruin) and some less angry ones like Forked Tongue.

So should you get this? If you're a Pissing Razors fan, most likely. If you're not, try Fields of Disbelief (their best work yet) first. And while you're at it, pretend that Pissing Razors never made a followup to this album and that it didn't suck completely.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST METAL ALBUMS I HAVE BOUGHT!!!.......2004-11-18

It's a heavy metal band with a style like Pantera, Machine Head, Skinlab, Lamb Of God, Fear Factory, it has a good piece of these bands.

If you like metal this album has to be yours, it's going to be some of your most heared albums. BUY IT!!!

3 out of 5 stars Hardcore Texas Metal.......2003-07-29

These guys should called Pantera Jr. Let's see; they're from Texas, have brutal songs with titles like "Justice Denied" and have a singer that sounds uncannily like Phil Anselmo. Besides that, this isn't half bad stuff for old school metal. "Burning Bridges" and the ripping "Opportunidad" rival Pantera's no frills stomping, with plenty of heavy riffs. The song topics here are pretty in your face; from slavery "Born To Serve", to religious payback "Vengeance Is Mine." Without the obvious comparisons to the above band, Pissing Razors do their best to carry the torch for power metal in your car stereo.

      4 out of 5 stars relentless.......2003-03-14

Pissing Razors could never be accused of pomposity... Where We Come From is nonstop groove. Heavy as a ton of bricks, and filled with (somewhat) memorable choruses, throat shredding vocals, and a wall of thick riffs. Fellow Texans Pantera are the most frequent reference point. I disagree... PR reminds me of old Machine and Sepultura circa Chaos AD. Not many solos, but enough fat bottom end to bludgeon your brain sufficiently. Solid post thrash recommended for fans of the style!

      5 out of 5 stars Pissing Razor's best.......2002-09-04

Bands like Pissing Razors and Skinlab are what real metal is all about. This is their strongest release, but yet, none of their albums are weak.
