Album Description

Hatesphere - the five-pronged jackhammer of Thrash and Death Metal ferocity is about to unleash another attack. The prolific five-piece, who in their current unbeatable lineup of Jacob Bredahl (v), Peter Lyse Hansen (g), Mikael Ehlert (b), Henrik Bastrup Jacobsen (g) and Drummer Anders Gyldenøhr, are shaking the walls of the world. Since 2001 this leading Death Thrash quintet from the quiet town of Aarhus, Denmark has been throwing right-hooks to the jaw of the international metal community. From their self-titled debut to the recent release of The Killing EP (2005), a twisted little teaser for their SPV debut, Hatesphere have been stunning metal fans and critics worldwide. Their latest, The Sickness Within, delivers a festival of hate that cracks the foundations from the first moment. The band's influences, ranging from old-school Thrash, Hardcore, Rock and Death Metal, all the way to merciless technical Brutal Death Metal á la Suffocation, can all be found on ! The Sickness Within. Album number four for the Danes is definitely the most multi-faceted thrashfest of their career. The message is simple: To be free from the disease of mediocrity you need only experience The Sickness Within!

5 out of 5 stars HATESPHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-02-14

man i love this band they play with so much aggression that it just makes you want to smash things their new cd takes a few listens to grow on you but damn it's so good this is the future of thrash metal done right by these drinking machines from Denmark

4 out of 5 stars Hatesphere Rip It Up (somewhat).......2007-01-10

This was a much anticipated purchase for me. Combine an incredibly intense, Metal thrash/hardcore band with Metal's best board man (Tue Madsen), producer extrordinaire Jacob Hansen and the result should be audio nuclear destruction. Upon hearing, however, there was a dynamite explosion but megaton it wasn't.

This is good, don't get me wrong, but it falls short of great. Compared to the mastery of their previous CD, Ballet of the Brute, this has to be a disappointment. The energy is there. The musicianship is still tight. But the songs just don't have the depth and intricacy of their last offering.

Tue Madsen's usual mixing magic is a bit muted as well. The first song has so much overpowering percussion that you wonder how your ear drums will take 40 minutes of their drums. Happily, the mix becomes more balanced as the CD moves along.

If you are into Hatesphere, then I recommend purchasing this CD. If you don't have any of their stuff, you'd be better served buying 2004's Ballet of the Brute first.

4 out of 5 stars great modern thrash.......2006-11-16

Hopefully this guys keep up the crunchy thrash tunes as I dig it. Songwriting is better than on previous cds. Their EP is great too. They can get a 5 in my book if they take the songwriting to the next level - get more memorable lyrics/choruses stuck in my head.

5 out of 5 stars Best thrash album i have heard in 10 yrs!!!!!!.......2006-10-23

Where the hell did this come from, absolute genius. I knew this would be good but jesus christ. Imagine a modern day Slayer cross Machine Head playing with a Swedish sound and heaviness and you get Hatesphere though not as melodic as slayer. Think burn my eyes, Reign in blood, master of puppets and vulgar display of power because this is almost as accessible as those are and who knows in years to come held in the same regard. This is the perfect album every song is cluttered with memorable and devastating riff after riff you just have to grit your teeth and nod your head in sheer admiration, every song chucks along like steam train.
These riffs just drive with some force that make mastodon look like ripples on a pond. This is the only album i heard of their's and will defo be buying the rest.
There is alot of influences here and is nothing really new but if you like all the forementioned and heavy as concrete but catchy as hell metal then you will be just love this. Just can't believe these aren't bigger than they are. They are the new Machine head or Metallica well at least this album is!!

4 out of 5 stars Meaty, riff-based modern thrash .......2006-08-13

Hatesphere has been around for quite some time now, and while they have their ups and downs, none of their albums are boring or low on melody in any way. Excluding their EPs, The Sickness Within is their fourth studio album and picks up where their previous work left off.

Album starter "White Fever" is chock full of riffs, blood-spitting scream vocals, and a sweet, somewhat bluesy rock solo that really contrasts the otherwise heaviness of the piece, but it fits and even adds depth to it. "Fallen Shall Rise in a River of Blood" is thrashier and also features a nice solo; slow, melodic and very well-written. The calculated riffery and swift chord progressions on "Reaper of Life" prove the band is still capable of throwing us lots of technical riffs a la their 2002 release Bloodred Hatred; while the title track is also among the fastest on the album with powerful drumming laying the foundation of their thrash metal fury. Overall, The Sickness Within isn't as fast and single-mindedly angry as some other bands in the genre. They do inject their songs with stomping bass and guitar drive, and thundering drums, but the music is always balanced out with clever tempo shifts. Check out "Heaven Is Ready to Fall"; lots of bass and awesome riffs abound its first half before the song breaks into a slow yet hauting silent section filled with lots of keyboards and Hammond sounds. Nevermore's Steve Smyth also guests on the album, playing a terrific solo on the last song "Marked by Darkness".

On the production front, the reverb-induced drumming on "Seeds of Shame" adds to the atmosphere of the song. "Murderous Intent" and "The Coming of Chaos" are a bit more on the modern thrash side, as they are infused with plenty of metalcore elements which also come to the fore in the vocal department. The former sees vocalist Jacob Bredahl opting for more hardcore-based singing while the latter does stray back into track in its melodic guitar work and central bass lines. The production carries the typical traits of Jacob Hansen's work. While I admit Hansen is a good producer, I feel his work has become a bit too one-dimensional over the years. On the other hand, I can immediately identify his sound by hearing a single song from any band. So if that was what he was after, he has achieved it. I just happen to prefer rawer production when I listen to death or thrash, with little touches of modern studio effects. This is a minor complaint though, as there are many others who dislike the work of guys like Andy Sneap and Neil Kernon.

This is a good album, but by no means essential. You might want to give it a listen if you enjoyed the newer albums by Exodus and Slayer, since some of the songs such as "Chamber Master" are highlighted by epic scale arrangements and old-school riffery. Also, Hatesphere is recommended to fans of The Haunted, Pantera, and Dew Scented.

Ballet of the Brute is by far the best album of the year. It has speed, great riffs and a great vocalist. The Anthrax cover fits in beautifully with the rest of the tracks. From the the speedy Deathtrip to the mid-paced Only the Strong...will keep the listeners headbangin' from start to finish.

5 out of 5 stars Minor thrash masterpiece.......2005-01-11

Hatesphere could well be Denmark's answer to The Haunted. "Ballet of the Brute" is a formidable collection of brutal thrash that leaves others sprawling in the dust. 'The Beginning and the End' starts things ominously with a slow build up of heavy riffing and then 'Deathtrip' lets loose in a rampage that lasts less than two minutes. Infectious and heavy riffing is the order of the day for Hatesphere as they rage through killer tracks like 'Vermin' but the album actually gets better as it goes on, showing somewhat more diversity in the speed and vocal attack than The Haunted did on "One Kill Wonder". 'Downward to Nothing' has a slight hardcore feel but the incredible thrash riffing and melodic lead guitars keep it from straying from the feel of the album. 'What I See, I Despise' is slower but none the less menacing, being one of the album highlights with Jakob Bredahl's voice adopting a growlier aspect to contrast his harsher vocals in the faster songs. 'Blankeyed' is simply awesome and '500 Dead People' combines the sinister slow riffing of 'What I See...' with outright speed to close the album with a blast. The hidden cover of 'Bark at the Moon' is hilarious, but apart from that there isn't a bad song on here: "Ballet of the Brute" is a minor thrash masterpiece from beginning to end.

this is the first cd from Hatesphere Denmark's most aggressive thrash band with the first release it shows whats to come in future releases they used to go by the name Necrosis and if you can find some of those recordings hang on to them they're amazing you can tell the lead singer was greatly influenced by my favorite old school thrash band Exhorder, there is an amusing song on their debut that starts off with a wailing riff and then.... a fart it shows how much fun this band has making music get all of their releases they're amazing

5 out of 5 stars great band of the genre.......2004-01-04

having never heard of the band before, I decided to give a good listen to them and was immediatly blown away. If your into bands like the haunted, lamb of god, and even heavy death metal then this band wont dissapoint you.

As originally written (by me) for RoyalCarnage.com:

Many of you might be wondering who the hell HATESPHERE is. Well, I'm here to tell you that they've been around (kind of) since 1993, first as CAUTERIZED, now defunct, then as NECROSIS, now defunct, then in their current incarnation as HATESPHERE. If Bloodred Hatred is any indication of what the metal world can come to expect from these Danish youngsters, than they won't be defunct any time soon.

Try to imagine yourself sitting in your father's new Mercedes in front of your girlfriend's house waiting for her to get ready for your date. Out of nowhere, an old Peugeot comes barreling around the corner and plows right into you, doing thousands of dollars worth of damage. You'd be pretty angry right? Now try to imagine taking that anger, multiplying it by approximately 10 and bottling it, only to unleash it on a record that lasts little over 30 minutes. You're getting close to a sense of how angry this album comes across. Part of the "new thrash" movement that's gaining steam (what seems like daily) across Europe, HATESPHERE joins their peers in CARNAL FORGE, DARKANE, THE HAUNTED, CORPORATION 187, DEW-SCENTED and even ARCH ENEMY in worshipping all things AT THE GATES. But to simply call them a knock-off or unoriginal clone would be doing this fine slab of metal they've released a major disservice. Guitar after guitar wallop you over the head with blistering lead work and dirty riffing. The drummer smashes the skins with such reckless abandon, he must be making sparks fly, and the bassist picks his thick, heavy strings like he's actually [upset with] them. Over it all, Jacob Bredahl barks, screams and growls like a madman who's out of medication, paying more than just homage to the greats like Tompa who've come before him.

HATESPHERE are but one of the select few who are able to take the hard work and classic metal styles from years ago and bring it front and center into 2003. They don't just smack you around a bit; prepare to be on the receiving end of a vicious pistol whip. I'm not sure exactly who HATESPHERE is so angry at, but when the result of that anger is something as wicked as this, who really cares? Produced by Tommy Hansen (HELLOWEEN), the sound is stark and striking with nothing being lost. Now, in actuality, this album was completed in late 2002, though Century Media didn't pick it up for North American distribution until just now, but we do get two older demo tracks from 1999 as a bonus. I do however have a gripe about those two bonus tracks (I know, I'm so ungrateful): if you're going to add demo tracks as a bonus, why not at least clean them up and re-master them? The songs are tremendous, but the sound quality is beyond poor. Other than the pretty short length of the album (32 minutes, give or take), I really don't have any complaints about Bloodred Hatred. All thrash fans need apply.

      Album Description

There's a storm brewing in the Hatesphere camp: in June 2004, the Danish Thrash metal act was still busy touring with the American/Portuguese power pack Exodus & Re:Aktor, before ensconcing themselves in the Scandinavian Jailhouse studios with producer Tommy Hansen. Hatesphere are now ready to present some of the remarkable new recordings as the 4-track EP entitled The Killing EP. Consider it an appetizer for their impending album. Their joint tour with the mighty Kreator, starting in February 2005, has also been confirmed.

For a few years now, namely since the release of three demos and their self-titled debut album in 2001, Hatesphere have been causing a stir on the metal scene. Several line-up changes and the production of their second album, Bloodred Hatred (2002), kept the band on their toes in the early stages of their career. Shows with Mnemic, Vader, Testament and Destruction followed, then came their European tour with The Haunted and Mastodon in April 2003. After the release of the mini-CD Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Black (2003), Hatesphere brought out their third album, Ballet Of The Brute, in summer 2004 and went on to tour with Exodus, and then Crowbar, in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France and Britain.

And now there's The Killing EP… consider yourself forewarned for the oncoming onslaught!!

      Album Description

4-track EP is an appetizer for their impending album. Contains - 'The Will Of God', 'You're The Enemy', 'Murderous Intent' & 'Trip At The Brain' (Suicidal Tendencies cover). Steamhammer. 2005.

This little EP helped the band sign with SVP Records in Germany (Kreator, Sepultura, Iced Earth etc.)

The sound of the EP is very brutal. All in all! The vocals has the perfect sound, guitars are tuned very well, drums are also well played. The tracks are really great! If you are a well known HateSphere fan, then you will find these tracks interresting. "Murderous Intent", "You're The Enemy" and "The Will Of God" are my favorites. The Suicidal Tendencies cover is well played with HateSphere's own style, but it's a little bit boring in my opinion. The EP is cheap and it is worth the money!

Saw these guys live at baroeg, rotterdam. Very enthusiastic I might add. So i decided to buy a cd from them. And I was amazed. Great production, not to polished, not to raw. I wouldn't call this death metal though. It's more a blend of traditional metal and hardcore. A bit like pro pain, but more intense. Check it out.

        5 out of 5 stars The magnificent 2nd album!!!.......2003-03-02

Make no mistake, this is the finest Swedish in style metal from Aarhus DENMARK. Hatesphere's 2nd album is even better than the ripping debut album from 2001. More versatile with more slower, real heavy passages and brutally grooving riffs. Good and classical use of keyboards by producer Tommy Hansen and a wider range in his vocal use by Jacob Bredahl. Especially check out the tracks "Kicking Ahead" and "Low Life Vendetta" along with "Insanity Arise" and "Deeper And Deeper". But all 9 tracks (european version) are extremly well written and virtuosly performed. Don't miss out on this great album, and be sure to check out the band live in action for a convincingly intense experience, featuring sublime performances by Mikael Ehlert and the rest of the band.

5 out of 5 stars DK Thrashers have done it again!.......2005-06-01

This is the fastest, most brutal album from Denmark Thrashers HateSphere!

There is not so much to say, that every single track has it's own personallity. From the fast "Deathtrip" to the slow "Only the Strongest" - The track that i personally don't like is "Last Cut, Last Head" This is a boring track. The production is also great. Well played guitars as well! A MUST BUY FOR ALL TESTAMENT, THE HAUNTED & ARCH ENEMY fans!!
