5 out of 5 stars WHOA! .......2006-01-23

Dude, get this album, it's so amazing! I can't believe that kids are actually still making good non-pretensious hardcore albums in these days of super pretensious uber(what a cool word to use when hyphenated my friends)-substianal era of music that often masquarades as deep felt and intellectual. What hurts me the most though is how many people are saying they play hardcore music, I was reading AP the other day and I almost got a bloody nose I snorted so hard, they called (oh who was it) some band like From First to Last hardcore. Um, not! I'm not a purist and I never claim to be but you just can't soil a genre's name by saying that's what you play when in fact you don't. I know, I know, "labels are for soup cans" well labels also make it a lot easier to know whither or not your going to drink poison or a soda, so if somebody tells me a band is hardcore I really don't wanna go through the guess work, so... if they bear some resemblance to Minor Threat, they are hardcore, if they don't, well then they are metalcore or emo (and most likely pretty lame). Anyways, that was a horrible tangent and I'd delete it but then this would be smaller and I'm sure most of you have stopped reading by now... but... if not well let me tell you how awesome KLU is... very! This is music with absolutley NO PRETENSION, the songs are short and fast and their is no heady concept behind this album, IMAGINE THAT! I am so sick of... AW! I just can't stop thinking about how this is the antithesis of all the lame music going around these days, not only is this good Hardcore music, but it's... pure I guess. They sing about skateboarding and a bunch of nonsense, but it's brilliant! Lars (the dude who sings) doesn't bombard us with all his petty little girl problems or stress over and over his little growing pains, no he just sounds pissed and he shows it. Lines like "tattoos of knuckles and knives but never swung your fist in an f***ing fist fight, you're wrong obviously not f***ing right"(You Know You're Life is Lame) just make this album golden (oh yeah they say the f word a lot, so if you got some beef with that, whatever, Minor Threat says the F word a lot too and that is just untouchable). Anyways, this is energetic and it's just... damn!

5 out of 5 stars Good skate/thrashcore.......2005-11-01

Mr. sum 41 needs to shut the hell up. KLU makes the best hardcore music that a pop punk band, like sum 41, will never come close to. Pick this up if you're into good raw hardcore while Sum 41 guy goes to his nickelback concert.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?.......2005-10-20

Hey mr. SUM 41 guy! KLU is not a nu metal band nor are they ANYTHING LIKE SUM 41! They are a hardcore band, they are not your dear sum 41 pop punk garbage, they are raw energetic hardcore in every sense of the word. Go to a sum 41 show at a huge arena then see KLU in a small venue and they will kill you with their amazing talent and incredible music! YOU ARE GARBAGE TO ME!

2 out of 5 stars Suprisingly disappointing........2005-07-31

Kids Like Us just didnt do it for me on their new album. Their debut cd kicked a$$. The first sounded so much like Sum 41's critically acclaimed album, 'All Killer No Filler'. The reason I got into Kids Like Us is due to the fact that my favorite band is Sum 41. KLU captured the energy, agressivenes and absolute genius of the Sum 41 sound. This album tends to lean more towards the sound of bands like Trapt and 3 Days Grace. While the aforementioned bands are pretty good, I didnt exactly want to hear another Nu Metal band. Perhaps the next album will go back to that good ol' 41 sound. I'll be waiting till that day comes! Peace Out-Franky

4 out of 5 stars great.......2005-07-27

this is a great freakin album. its hardcore, its fast, its funny, and its got plenty of breakdowns and pit-inducing riffs to satisfy just about everyone. my only complaint is that the classic KLU vocals sound too reminiscient of Donnybrook (due to him not being able to hold the mic during recording).

but besides the at times drastically different vocals, this album is very solid and the southern rock influences sound great. this is why KLU is one of my favorite bands.

KLU @$$hole ATTACK!

4 out of 5 stars My favorite AMG Joint.......2005-11-03

This is my favorite AMG CD but this joint didn't get much airplay where I'm from (Ama,Tx) but I did bump the song "Butt Booty Naked" on the college radio station and got mad props back in 96. "Pimp of the century" is my favorite cut. The whole Cd is funky. Not bad for not having a DJ Quik production on it but just imagine if Quik did produce this joint..Whewww!

4 out of 5 stars AMG's 2nd Solo & his best .......2005-02-08

AMG is back 3 and a half years after his debut with a strong 10 song second album. My favorite of his 3 solo albums even though it runs only about 45 minutes. Guests are on 3 songs, and the beats are funky (like mostly all of the rappers that are down w/ DJ Quik) but AMG produced the whole album himself and did a very impressive job, but it doesn't feature any of his normal clique (like his other 2 albums). It has 2 classics, 2 good songs, 4 average songs (2 would be much better with no guests on them) and 2 that I skip. A good album for that west coast pimpish, upbeat music fans.

#1 - 10 (CLASSIC w/ great upbeat production)
#2 - 10 (CLASSIC & my all time favorite AMG song -- great beat as well)
#3 - 7 (has the "Juicy" beat)
#5 - 8 (f/ jiboh & hittage -- would be better w/out the guests)
#6 - 8.5 (good beat)
#7 - 7
#8 - 6
#9 - 7.5 (upbeat song -- f/ hittage & lil tee -- again it would be much better w/ no guests)
#10 - 6.5 (f/ jiboh)
#11 -7.5

5 out of 5 stars Very well put together.......2003-08-11

This is a very good album; in my opinion, his best. Every song is good and still has an up to date sound. Most of it is AMG's normal talk about girls, money and sex, which he always does a good job with. Compared to his first album, the sounds of this album are very new skool and pimpish. I first got the tape back in '95 and it was ahead of its time; couldn't take it out of my walkman. Every song on here is a song you can cruise to in your car with extremely heavy bass. There are quite a few songs on this album that would have got radio play across the country today if rap/gangsta/underground rap were as widely liked and respected back in '95. My only gripe is that it only has 10 songs, but they are ALL tight a$$ beats and good rap to back it up. Perfect west coast album.BR>If you still don't believe me, download #2 off this cd: "It's a 304 Thang". They are all just as tight.

4 out of 5 stars In control and on the way up...!.......2001-11-19

This work could be considered Barry Harris's last step up before achieving international stardom (the first being his late 80s group KON KAN). Barry Harris, presently known for his work as a producer and remixer in THUNDERPUSS (formerly THUNDERPUSS 2000), had crafted this energetic eurodance CD as part of OUTTA CONTROL. While the sound is clearly rooted in its mid-90s flavour, the music is still as tuneful and uplifting as when it was new.

An all-time favourite of mine can be found at track number two, "Sinful Wishes". This version features vocalist Kimberly Wetmore as opposed an earlier version which featured KON KAN. There are other vocalists on this CD alongside of the ultra-fab Kimberly Wetmore and they are just as capable of fleshing out these songs with as much personality as ANYONE on the current radio lists.

Included on this disc are two remakes of classic pop songs, "Together In Electric Dreams" (originally by Georgio Moroder with Philip Oakey) and "One Of Us" (by Joan Osborne). The quality is far above the standard "remake it for the dancefloor" fodder. The original songs written for this disc were definitely worthy of airplay and its truly a shame that there wasn't enough push behind this to get it!

I sincerely hope that you will check this out if you are reading this review. This is great music to get you warmed up before answering Mr. Harris's call to "DIVE IN THE POOL"...!

(also see the "DMA: eurodance" series)

5 out of 5 stars Love this great cd.......2000-04-16

This group has the euro sound that i always look for in a dance album. It is hard to find this sound i like but i found it hear, all the tracks are pumping, i wish they got some airplay.

Yamama'Nym's debut, 2:00 am, is a blend of Soul, R&B and a taste of Jazz. The project contains brilliant slow tempo songs of love gained and love lost combined with uptempo songs to make you move. All songs have a mix of live instrumentation to make feel you are with the band.

          5 out of 5 stars A Huge Fan.......2003-10-24

I had the priveledge of hearing Yamama'nym perform live, and as soon as I walked through the door I was a huge fan. This band gave one of the best live perfromances I've seen and had me standing up and dancing throughout. The blend of soul, jazz and funk made it almost inpossible to stay in your seat and had the entire croud singing along with them at the top of their lungs. Although they are young, every member of this band is an accomplished musician and does a great job portraying the emotions of every song to the crowd. This band makes great music!

          5 out of 5 stars Supreme!!!!!!.......2003-08-26

Let me begin by saying that I am very proud to be related to Alison C., one of the very talented vocalists of this group. I must admit, when I first heard about it, I was skeptical, but after listening to the intro and the first song on the CD, I was captivated. 2:00 am is soulful, sultry and filled with the kind of music your mama and them used to listen to. Mr. Incredible, song number 7 is my absolute favorite on the CD. If you want to hear some new urban flavor, strong vocals and vibrant instruments pick this one up. Yamama'nym will be around for years to come. I love this CD, it's how I get going in the morning and how I wind down at night.

5 out of 5 stars You have to hear this album!.......2003-08-08

I assure anyone reading this, once you've experienced Yamama'nym's 2:00am, it'll be on repeat for weeks (maybe even months) in your cd player. Even if you decide to listen to it once, it has melodies and rhythms that are so polished they'll stick in your head long after the CD has stopped spinning.
