xXxstraightedgexXx death metal!!!!!!.......2007-07-02
Ahh man, Im loving the creativity and originality in this band. Who cares that they ripped off Marduks only good album, who cares that there first demo tape was coincidentially named after Bolt Throwers first album, who cares that a majority of there lyrics revolves around PETA and its PETArrism, this is great man!
Another amazing cd from HSB!!!.......2007-03-09
Definitely bone crushing cd!! I loved their cd Antigone and just thought how heavy and amazing it was!! than they released Heaven shall burn vs Caliban...and the cd just didnt do anything for me especially compared to Antigone. Than I saw their website for the new release "Deaf to our prayer" As soon as I poped the cd in BAM! A really hard loud min exploding cd! Unlike Antigone wich started off with the piano playing!! This is definitely an amazing cd to add tot he collection. These guys deserve to be more well known!! One of my favorite cds by far!!
More thrash this time around..........2007-01-15
I just picked up Deaf to Our Prayers and it is amazing. It pretty much picked up where Antigone left off sans the instrumentals in between songs. These guys seemed to get heavier this time around mixing in more thrash to their sound. The double bass makes it's presence known from the first song to the last. I heard that HSB was coming out with a new album in Metal Maniacs or some other metal magazine and I knew I had to have it. I was kind of turned off the first time I heard Heaven Shall Burn and it took a few listens to get me into the swing of things and I can't get enough. I heard "Counterweight" on the Century Media Records website and I was convinced to pick up Deaf to Our Prayers. In my opinion, Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn are two of the most underrated METAL bands on the planet, not METALCORE, but METAL. It makes me so angry when people use that term when they refer to these two bands...uuuhhhhhgggggg but yeah, this album is top notch metal all the way. The vocals seemed to be deeper than on Antigone, and a few growls were thrown in for good measure. Overall the album ROCKS!!!Buy it you will not be disappointed. Also pick up some Caliban albums too while you're at it!
Brutallity at It's Best Out of Germany!.......2007-01-04
Man if you're a fan of Heaven Shall Burn, this will not diappoint. They come back as heavy as ever before and just brutal. One of my personal favorites of 2006. I believe Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban are one of the most underrated bands out to date. You want metal? Get it from these guys out of Germany. This is not no weak hardcore dance around bs. This is I want to kiiill some one metal! Each track is enjoyable for anyone looking for something different and just straight up brutallity.
I'm not normally a "traditional" Death Metal fan..........2006-12-05
But these guys totally blow me away. The riffs are dark, fast, and catchy, brining to mind at the same time: At the Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity. The vocals are what sets this on apart... they avoid the traditional cookie-cutter cookie-monster vocal approach for an open-throated assault that is overdubbed on the record to an almost frightening level of power. Lyrically these guys are great... and I saw that someone compares these guys to metalcore? THAT I don't understand at all... they're brutal, they can hang with any of the aforementioned bands. Best songs... My favorite is "Of No Avail," But "Counterweight" is pretty comprehensive of what the whole cd will sound like. If you really have to have cookie-cutter cookie-monster vocals, the song "Biogensis-Undo Creation" will hit your need perfectly fine.
The album is epic sounding.

Feakin' Awesome.......2006-07-07
I dont know how to explain it because I am still listening to it for the first time and Im speechless. Its that good. You should buy it now regardless of all of these reviewes. The intro alons is awesome and the riffs are crazy. The drumming also sticks out to me. Its really catchy. If you are any type of metal head being it harcore, death metal, numetal...check this out. Some say its hard core but i dont think so. Its more death metal type stuff to me but not srait death metal. Just go buy it now and see for yourself.
Good band, Good album.......2006-05-17
Antigone was my first Heaven Shall Burn album that I bought, and I really like it. HSB remind me alot of At The Gates, Soilwork, and In Flames all in one kick ass band. This album is a pure straight up no nonsense, in your face headbanging assault to your senses, with some melody added into the mix which is a good thing. Brutal screaming vocals, crushing guitar riffs, head rattling double bass drumming, what more do you need. The album starts off with a nice piano intro called "Echoes", but don't be fooled however, because when you hear the opening riffs in track two "The Weapon They Fear" (my favorite song on here), you'll be raising those horns and headbanging like crazy. I also learned that song was about a Chilean singer who was killed the seventies because of the power of his songs. Other songs that I find very addicting on here include "Architects of the Apocalypse", "Bleeding to Death", "The Only Truth", "Tree of Freedom", and "Voice of the Voiceless" which are good solid headbangers as well. Their covers of Disembodied's "Dislocation" and Hate Squad's "Not My God" which are included on here kick ass as well. There are a couple outros one here ("Risandi Von", and "Deyjandi Von") but they don't take away the brutality and aggression on this album. Marcus Bischoff's screaming vocals are awesome and bone chilling throughout. Maik Weichert and Patrick Schleitzer's dual guitar riffs crush and demolish throughout, Eric's bass is pretty good, and Matthias's double bass drumming is top-notch. So anyways if you're a fan of Lamb Of God, At The Gates, God Forbid, Soilwork, and In Flames, you'll like Heaven Shall Burn. Get this album now!!

HSB... Heavy Systematic Brutality!!.......2006-04-18
The Weapon They Fear is the best metal song i have ever heard... quite simply. and almost single-handedly gets this album a five starc rating, but like most people are saying this album is a bit repetitive in the mid section... the outros are brilliant and attempt to break up the repetition. tracks 3,4,5,6,7,9 and 10 are very similar but since HSB has a unique sound i like them all as they are all similarly catchy in brutality... track 11, The Dream Is Dead, has a slightly different chorus which makes it a fairly unique track in the context of the entire album. the bonus tracks arent all that special but are also very brutal... everything about this album is brutal really except for the outros which give a huge contrast to the rest of the album. Risandi Von (outro), track 8 is unbelievably beautiful.. and im not the kind of person who uses the word beautiful very often.. this outro is very moving and even though its only 1:31, it is a memorable addition to this album... all in all, despite its repitition, this is a great unique and yes BRUTAL album...
Solid, but not as good as everyone says.......2006-02-07
This cd, despite what people are saying, is good, not great. Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of the band, but the cd doesn't necissarily achieve the band's full potential. "The Weapon They Fear" is the absolute best song on this cd. Followed by "Not My God". A great first song and great ending song, but the rest of the cd is just average.
Everything in the middle, aside from the two outros, is very similar. They don't vary much from the first song, actually downgrading on the sound. The voice is great, though the distortion on it can sometimes be a little overbearing. Besides the two afformentioned songs, nothing on this cd really jumps out at you saying "listen to me more and more". Unlike bands like Chimaira, or Devil Driver, in which each song on their latest cd's scream to be heard over and over.
Overall, a good cd, but could be way better. I am hoping they will reach their full potential on their next album.
PETAcore. Hahaha, two paragraphs are adequate........2006-02-06
I'll make this short, because I don't want anyone to waste too much time thinking about this band. Lately, metalcore's been been taking an unfortunate rise in popularity. Every day it seems a new "core" band with leftover At The Gates riffs has been forcing its way onto our "metal" shelves, and sucking the capitol out of the burning pockets of those trying to escape the bounds of the mainstream. Just another faceless genre that will be forgotten in five years. Let it be known that the intimidatingly named "Heaven Shall Burn" is among these ranks.
I'm sorely disappointed no one here at Amazon has yet given this CD a negative review. It's almost hard to critisize, because it's so unbelievably generic and nondescript on every conceivable level. Hilariously non-threatening, whiney shrieks. Tepid Gothenburg styled sub-riffs. A bunch of rich guys who fancy themselves advocates of animal liberation, intending to appeal to teens who know nothing about the perversion of human rights in other countries, shaping their fundamentalist pseudo-"rebellious" views around PETA propaganda. All the asinine metalcore stereotypes are here. If you're still not convinced, keep this in mind: I (literally) burned my copy, and I still have a Mudvayne record stashed away somewhere I've yet to destroy. Avoid. Annihilate. Forget.

Very Good but With Shortcomings.......2006-02-04
Marduk's fourth album "Heaven Shall Burn... When We are Gathered" is considered by many fans to be among their very best records, and not for a bad reason. The production is good, nothing to rave about but it fits the atmosphere of the music. The musicianship I feel could have been better, Morgan's guitar work seems too simple and repetitive, otherwise the band sounds great. Song wise there are some killer tracks: "Beyond the Grace of God", "Infernal Eternal", "Glorification of the Black God" (Marduk's version of Mussorgsky's "Night On Bald Mountain") and "The Black Tormentor of Satan". On the other hand there are a few real stinkers: "Darkness it Shall Be" is completely repetitive and dull and "Dracul Ua Domini..." just chugs along with the same boring riff over and over again for a whole five minutes. On the whole though this is a very good record and recommended for anyone looking into the band.
MARDUK!!!!!!!! \m/ \m/ \m/.......2005-09-08
This is my favorite marduk album. It is second only to the god-like Panzer Division Marduk album. The best song is legion, it has some of the coolest riffs in it and is a very intense song, hell, the whole album is intense definately not for the faint of heart.
My favorite Marduk album.......2004-08-04
I have to say it, this is my favorite album by Marduk so of course I am going to be partial. The music, production, everything is top notch. This is also one of the harder to find albums (hell, anything on Osmose recordings is hard to find). I like this cd based solely on the fact that it's as fast as "Panzer" but has more melody and changes pace better. Enough said, just buy it and you won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Don't kill me... .......2006-05-21
Don't bash me for giving it "only" four stars, please? Why did I give it four and not five? Because I'm a huge fan of both of these bands and half of an album from either one just isn't enough to satisfy me. So I'm greedy, OK? This album is a great intro to both bands and when compared with the original Split Program, shows how much each has grown. If you're looking to get into these bands, this is an excellent intro to both of them. If you look to move onto full-length albums after this, I suggest HSB's "Antigone" and Caliban's "The Undying Darkness".
Unlike the first Split Program, HSB's half comes first, and features two new songs, one interlude, one "old" song and two covers - Merauder's "Downfall of Christ" and Endstand's "Destroy Facism". Caliban's half consists of one new song, "The Revenge" and four "old" songs, including two that appeared on the original Split Program ("One More Lie" and "A Summer Dream"). One thing that they didn't do on this that I thought was cool on the original Split Program was HSB doing a Caliban cover ("One More Lie") and Caliban doing a HSB cover ("Partisan").
I highly recommend this disc. It was my introduction to Caliban and I was an instant fan, collecting as many of their albums as I could find. This disc showcases some of the best bone-crunching, teeth-jarring mayhem that two of the finest metalcore bands have to offer. If you like either of these bands, or if you enjoy bands like Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying, this disc will not disappoint you. Come feel the power of metalcore pioneers.
What A Treat.......2005-10-27
Being a huge fan of Caliban, and a moderate fan of Heaven Shall Burn, when I heard the bands were doing another split together on Lifeforce Records, I only expected the best. And with this release that's exactly what you're going to hear. In fact I'll go as far as to say this is probably the best split I've heard in years. When I first got the cd I was a bit surprised to see that the bands had re-recorded earlier material on this release, however that only adds to the greatness of the cd. Some of my favorites songs by both bands, which were in questionable quality on older releases, have been re-recorded with great production, and completely overshadow the originals. Each band also offers some new material making the split a very worthwhile addition to your collection.
The first half of the split (1-6) is Heaven Shall burn. Note one song is an interlude ("Nyfodd Von"). I've never been a huge HSB fan, but they are definitely showcased on this release. We get two new songs ("Unleash Enlightment" and "No One Will Shed A Tear"), and three of HSB's best older songs re-recorded ("If This A Man", "Downfall Of Christ", "Destrouy Fascism".) The new songs are the real treat. "Unleash Enlightment" and "No One Will Shed A Tear" are easily two of the best songs I've ever heard the band produce, and if this is what is to come on their next album, I will be all ears. The three older songs have been re-recorded well, and all have a much more powerful tone and feeling then the originals did. Maybe because of the supremely better quality. At any rate HSB's half of the cd is great and definitely lays down the gauntlet for their friends in Caliban.
Caliban's half of the album more than overshadows HSB's though. I guess it will probably depend on which band you are a bigger fan of, but for me Caliban's half is just phenominal. Opening up with "The Revenge", their only new song, the band immediately commands your attention. "The Revenge" has some of the most intense riffs, and probably the best chorus I've ever heard these guys lay down. There's no absence of the heaviness though. If this is what's in store on the next album, then we are in for a treat. As for the rest of Caliban's arsenal, they have chosen to re-record probably my favorite old school song "Arena of Concealment", which appeared on their "Vent" album, along with three songs from their first eps, "One Day", "A Summer Dream", and "One More Lie". Hearing these songs in such lush quality is just awesome because some of the original versions just didn't have the presence the new versions have. They are definitely some of Caliban's heaviest material to date, and they made a wise decision to re-record them on this release. If you are a fan of the band, this split is worth picking up even if you don't like Heaven Shall Burn.
In the end I'm more pleased with this record than I ever thought I would be. Caliban's half alone was enough for me, but Heaven Shall Burn definitely doesn't let Caliban take the crown easily. Each band is alive and well and proves they're still out there writing beautifully heavy music, and doing it better than a lot of other bands out there. Another thing that makes this split pretty cool is that both of these bands are virtually unknown (at least in the U.S) despite the big roles they've played in the German metalcore scene. Pick this one up today, I promise no dissapointments.
Heavy Sh*t.......2005-09-08
this album is caliban at their best. their sound is a mixture between shadow hearts and opposite from within, and picks up where each laged. Caliban has one new song called the Revenge and its f**king awesome, the rest are remakes that i can say without a doubt were remade better. Heaven Shall Burn also remade some of their older songs and they kick. all in all this cd is a must have.
OH MY GOD!!! CALIBAN MAKES ME WANT TO CRUSH SOMETHING!!.......2005-08-25
Let me get this out of the way. The Heaven Shall Burn songs are good, if you like their last album. Which I do. Great band. Now on to the meat and potatoes. I don't know if you people reading this are familiar with Caliban, so let me tell you that they are the best band that nobody's never heard of. When I say "nobody" I mean most metal fans. The only reason I even know them is because I saw them on The God Forbid/It Dies Today in March. They blew me away like no band I've ever seen before, and that's not an exaggeration. They are absolutely crushing. If you like metal, hardcore, metalcore, death metal, whatever, if you don't like this band then something is wrong with you. I do not like clean singing in my music, but for some reason they make it OK in their songs. Now, they only sing clean in some of their choruses, but other than than they are......Christ, I don't even know what to say. And as for the other person who made the "Killswitch Engage" comparison, Puhhhhhhlease. This band makes KSE sound like the Spice Girls. If you are already a fan, BUY THIS NOW!! If you're not familiar with this force of a band, then start with "OPPOSITE FROM WITHIN", then this one, then "SHADOW HEARTS". Best money you'll ever spend on something you've never heard. GOD ALMIGHY THEY RULE!!!
