Very Nice New Age Music.......2007-02-09
An interesting journey through atmospheres and soundscapes. At first I did not like this album as much as their next album Evermind. Later, I listened to it again and heard how beautiful it was. It stands alone as a strong album. Amethystium may not be my first choice to listen to, but I still like them a lot, and Aphelion is worth a purchase. If you are a lover of New Age music, check out 2002 and Mythos in addition to Amethystium's next album Evermind.

A solid effort, but not their best album.......2007-07-07
Hailing from Austria, Edenbridge is a fairly unique band in the "metal band with female vocalist" genre. Their particular sound, self-described as "angelic, bombastic metal" is somewhere between Nightwish and melodic rock diva Lana Lane. The music is lush and melodic, with a heavy emphasis on keyboards, and falls squarely in the Helloween/Angra power metal category. The only thing remotely goth-like about this band is their wardrobe. The vocals, which are provided by the lovely and talented Sabine Edelsbacher, are a breath of fresh air in a genre where every female singer seems determined to be a glass-shattering opera star.
I really like this band, but I wasn't as impressed with their 2003 album Aphelion as I was with their previous releases (Sunrise in Eden and Arcana). It opened strong with The Undiscovered Land, but most of the songs after that just seemed to fade into the background, lacking the sense of grandeur that made the songs on Arcana so memorable. All of that can be forgiven though, in light of the album's closing song Red Ball in a Blue Sky, which features a duet between Edelsbacher and Silent Force vocalist D.C. Cooper. Cooper is far and away my favorite vocalist, and hearing these two great singers together is pure magic, as is their contribution to the amazing melodic metal "opera" Missa Mercuria.
Aphelion may not be Edenbridge's finest hour, but it is still a very solid album with a few noteworthy moments. It's well worth checking out, particularly if you're a fan of bands like Nightwish, After Forever, et al and have grown tired of the opera metal style.

Not as good as Arcana, but still grade-A material.......2004-01-28
I was sold by this band after 5 seconds off of one of the songs (I forget which) on their previous effort, Arcana. I was so impressed that I spent the full $25.49 to get this album new. Along with the $22 I wasted on a used copy of After Forever's Decipher, that's the most I've ever spent on a one-disc album. Unlike the previous purchase, this one was 100% worth it. Now, of the three Edenbridge albums, this one is the one I like least, because the songs are shorter and there seems to be a little too much power metal percussion. Also, they have some Nightwish-esque cheesy keyboard moments. However, that does not diminish the fact that it is still a great album, in every aspect. The thing that really upset me though is that, unlike their previous efforts, which were appreciable in length, this one only has two songs over five minutes in length. I didn't care too much for the addition of D.C. Cooper on the last song, but I generally don't care for male power metal vocalists (aside from Tony Kakko and, if you considered Iced Earth a power metal band like some folks do, Matt Barlow). So to be short and sweet, this album rocks, but be sure that you get Arcana first, or at least in the same order. And don't rule out their debut Sunrise in Eden, because these guys (and girl) have yet to produce an album that doesn't deserve a high rating.
A little step back yet still enjoyable.......2003-09-24
Well, I expected a lot from this release, wondering if Arcana could be topped, especially after I heard the first minute of The Undiscovered Land featuring Oriental intro. And I was a little disappointed. First of all, it took me several listens before I started digging all songs; that wasn't the case with Arcana.
This time the band decided to make songs a little longer and heavier, which would be OK too, except...the songs themselves...they sounded a little pale to me, not juicy enough, especially the slower tracks. Every other aspect seemed to be in place though, the band is offering crisp production, tight musicanship and heavenly vocals. The definite highlight of this record is a guest appearance of non other than D.C. Cooper (ex Royal Hunt) in Red Ball In Blue Sky. Him and Sabine form an impressive duet and that makes it worth checking out Aphelion just for that particular song.
Having pointed out pros and cons, I am assuring you it is still a safe purchase if you like hard rock/metal of fine quality performed by talented musicians.

While not without flaws, this second release from Amethystium, aka Oystein Ramfjord (a twenty-something producer from Norway), is another appealing assortment of trance/space/pop/new age textures that may not fully transport you to another dimension, but will set an interesting audio backdrop for the evening. Ramfjord creates inviting, slightly sweetened, slightly mysterious electronic atmospheres, all nudged along by polite grooves and an assortment of subtle, Enigma inspired audio totems (native flutes, Gregorian chant, Middle Eastern vocals). Amethystium is not quite a peer of Enigma, acting more like a mild-mannered distant relative. Stylistic comparisons to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark¸ Mythos, and even Vangelis are also likely to come to mind. Ramfjord's higher-pitched keyboard voices occasionally break the spell his music works hard to cast (as in "Garden of Sakuntala," a pity), but it's a tolerable glitch in this largely inviting 59-minute moodsetter, one that is almost identical in flavor to his debut Odonata.--Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Good Music for Energy Healing Work.......2006-11-22
I do Reiki energy healing work and find that this CD (and all his other CDs) blend into the background and support the energy healing process. The music seems to bring out more subtleties each time it is heard and does not seem to get old. The music is rhythmic without the stimulating intensity of trance dance music and is therefore calming and grounding at the same time. The tonal pads transition well and form a rich harmonic background, while the melody lines add evocative emotional tones that encourage emotional healing. I highly recommend this CD for those who do energy healing and meditation, especially if you like the music a little more dynamic than some of the relaxation CDs that are around.
stunning.......2006-07-05
I bought this mainly for the reviews I read here. It is worth it. I am a massage therapist and hoped it would be perfect for massage. The clients that like this type of music absolutely love it. There are others who prefer native american, classical, etc.
I am pleased with my purchase, but find I listen to it more for me than for my clients. One client who teaches yoga bought this album after hearing it in my office. She says it works well for her yoga practice.
Another great CD by Amethystium.......2006-04-16
This would be one of my favorite Amethystium CD's. The music always seems to take you places without being overdramatic. The first song takes you from darkness to light (hence the track name "Shadow to Light"), which gives you the first glance at what is to come. Then we go into the mysterious beat of "Garden of Sakuntala", which by the way, I just found out recently was softly played in the background on the movie "Witchcraft" when they are at the "witch" shop. My other favorite on this album is "Gates of Morpheus".
Their unique blends and awesome sounds take one on a journey into the unknown. Excellent music to just lie down and take it easy after a rough day. Highly recommended!
Your godly power and life unseen, untouched...........2006-01-17
Aphelion... The second Album of Amethystium will lift your mind and heart into areas of your immagination where thoughts you've tried to create that were hard are suddenly and gradually flown into your mind, heart and the most inner you of who you truly are as a person, a spirit of godly power where life seems easy and where you are the creator of your own destiny. My favorite from this album is "Shibumi" and "Exultation" that song has such an impact as do the rest but it's as though you can focus your mind on being able to create energy waves and feel that from your very palms.
This music is like no other new age I've ever listened to and it kinda gives me the feeling of being able to conquer matter, energy, space and time. Pretty much might give you the feeling of being a GOD over the samething and who knows... maybe more.
All of the albums are great! You don't know what you're missing out on when you refuse to listen to this.
The O.T.Alchemist
EUPHORIC!!! .......2005-12-24
If a piece of music makes you cry from sheer exuberance, then you know you have found the one. Hurray for those who follow the path of their soul and allow the rest of us to journey along that beam...to see...to feel...to reach highter...Thank YOU! I love Odanata which I got by change, a good change... I had to find this one and OH MY!!! Close your eyes and dream...
