From Run-D.M.C.'s unlikely courtship of Aerosmith to Anthrax's union with Public Enemy, seemingly polar opposites have spawned a whole musical genre popularized by the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock. Crazy Town's The Gift of the Game neatly slots into the rap-rock category. They obviously carry some clout, amassing an impressive guest roster for a debut album, including godfathers of the scene Red Hot Chili Peppers on stand-out track "Butterfly" and KRS-One on the storming "B-Boy 2000." As debut albums go, this is about as accomplished and cocksure as you get. --Helen Marquis

5 out of 5 stars A good value.......2007-05-17

I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

4 out of 5 stars The Sound Track Since Bernard Hermann.......2006-07-25

This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.
Very good value.

4 out of 5 stars Good mix of film music.......2006-07-02

Good mix of films!
I'm a big fan of this soundtrack music and will be looking for more CD's like this.

4 out of 5 stars A mixed collection of movie music.......2006-02-23

For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

1 out of 5 stars The Secret of "Butterfly" that no one knew............2007-02-24

This song has made the band an incredible amount of money and here is why:

The awesome little bass line combo with the guitar stylings of the song sounds awesome right? One has to admit the rapping is EXTREMELY sub-par. We all know that's not why this song got popular. The first time I heard this song, I thought the groove was great and that it was just a plain well put together song with two good parts weaved together that worked perfectly: guitar and bass. It sounded really talented.

Here's the truth:

THIS SONG IS A COMPLETE COPY FROM A PART OF A RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS SONG.

That's right. Crazy Town COMPLETELY lifted the Bass and guitar part from the song "Pretty Little Ditty" by RHCP which can be found on Mother's Milk. There is only 1 note difference (I believe the rule of plagiarism is 3-5 words before it becomes stealing another's ideas) You can even hear the exact rip off from the 30 second snippet on ITunes. Go ahead! Listen to it! Look up the album "Mother's Milk" by RHCP and then the song "Pretty Little Ditty" I'm very angry that Crazy Town made so much money on a song that was based on all-out theft of talented musicians.

I had a feeling that that "crazy" bassline could only have been concocted by Flea and that only John Frusciante can create such a simplistic but heartfelt guitar part. This theft only describes the state of music today. Too bad.....Find your own talent you frauds!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-08-04

This has to be simply the best I have heard in a while. I can't understand why this band is getting bad reviews? It has to be Jealousy. I have listened to this cd over and over again and I can never get tired of it. I can't wait for Crazy Town to produce a 3rd cd,their 2nd cd Darkhorse is great also. This is the first band that I enjoyed every song on both their cd's. Perfect would be my review. If you can't appreciate their music you have no taste at all for good quality music. I love Crazy Town, I have lived these songs out. I can't describe it but it seems like every song is about me. Unbelievable!!!! I want to see these guys live WOW.

1 out of 5 stars Its not even metal.......2006-04-02

I remember hearing that after people bood them off stage at Ozzfest. This band was only popular with girls. If you have ever seen the Orange County movie you'd see why, because that song was idolized like other [...]thay year. Butterfly was unbearable and corny. thats why I no longer bother watching MTV. Hell, just to borrow something off Kommisar's playbook, if anyone of those fans listened to Sepultura, they would start to die a cold death in agony because the shock to their toxified pop music bodies would destroy them instantly and render them helpless. I recommend you stockpile some Slayer, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Pantera, Lamb of God, Tool, Sepultura and some Danzig instead of crazytown
RIP Crazytown (2001-2001)

1 out of 5 stars the spice girls of nu-metal.......2006-02-25

Some kid just told me that Crazy Town is the best metal band. I would have killed him but that would be illegal and I dont want to go to prison for killing a kid. Anyways I looked them up on here to write a review and someone is selling this for 1 cent. That says it all. I was subjected to hearing it a long time ago in school all they are is a bunch of limp dick impersonators. They couldnt play a guitar if there life depended on it. They cant even rap for that matter. I dont want to sound racist (...) (...) Real rappers just laugh at this or they exploit white rappers like Feminem because they know that millions of braindead mtv addicted welfare wiggers will buy it up.
Bottom line is this is a complete waste. I hate rap but Id rather listen to real rap than sink so low that i would listen to this crap.

4 out of 5 stars Great.......2005-11-17

Crazy Town broke onto to the scene with a rock rap mix unfortunately the world isnt quite ready yet for such a mix let alone back then so not surprisingly Crazy Town didnt do too well. However look at all the reviews from every person who has given this CD a bad rating and you will find prejudice in that they either favor nothing but rap or nothing but rock and therefore there opinion is biased and should not be credible. if you are really open to different kinds of music and you listen to this CD and still think its bad then by all means write a review on it but don't write a review trashing a type of music you don't understand because the song "butterfly" or the Band Name led you to believe otherwise. - Magik

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars These guys are horrible live.......2004-10-02

I heard a few of the songs from the album and was pretty impressed, so i wanted to see them live, back before they were MTV popular and the mainstream didn't even know about them. Went and saw them headline with Shuvel and Slaves on Dope opening for them at a small venue with no more than 50 people there. The first two bands were incredible live and was waiting for Crazy Town to just upshow them. Wrong, there sound is only acheived through clever produced studio editing and sound terrible, gritty and nothin compareable to the album. We left the show only about 3 songs into as well as most the other people eventually started to leave. Saw them at Ozzfest and they got booed off the stage. Plus when i heard first Butterfly, i was thinking this song sounds very familiar. Just listen to Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Mother Milk album and they completely ripoff the short instrumental interlude Pretty Little Ditty as the main hook in the song. They got thier 15 minutes of fame from that? cmon, but anyway the rest of the album is decent if ya like rap tinged pop rock that tries to sound hardcore. The singer does have a good style and flow when he gets goin, with songs like Think Fast and Only When Im Drunk. Average, nothin more than 3 stars. Dont waste your money to see them live if that ever happens again.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME Rap-Metal CD!!.......2003-11-26

First off, if you're looking for a CD with heavy, hard-hitting metal, this IS NOT your CD.
This CD has a great beat and a great varietty of music. They're not *too* heavy with the guitar, just some good melodic riffs. Great DJ, and Great drum-beat. If you're into Rap-Metal this CD is a good one to check out ... the only song on the CD I really don't care for is Think Fast, doesn't flow well IMO. But out of all the tracks on the CD, that's not a bad deal. Worth the money!!

1 out of 5 stars Not GOOD...........2001-09-26

ok, this is probably the worst rock band out in the business, i mean if u are a heavy metal fan and just listen to hard rock , u will NOT like this album, crazytown is to much of hip hop, it sounds bad how they try to make it hard, if u like rap and pop music then u will probably like this album, but if u are looking for some good hard rock, then u will waste your money.......

5 out of 5 stars this CD ROCKS!!.......2001-05-14

Crazy Town is an awesome group, and their CD 'The Gift of Game' really rocks. They're not as hard-core as limp bizkit but the rap/rock mix works great. If you're more of a pop fan get the 'butterfly' single, but rockers should go for the whole CD. The best tracks beside 'butterfly' are 'only when i'm drunk' and 'lollipop porn.' Plus, there are some really cool extra tracks :)

1 out of 5 stars THEY WILL DEFINITELY BE A ONE HIT WONDER.......2001-03-09

Okay, you hard rockers you are going to hate me for this but I saw Crazy Town (awful name) on MTV with their video "Butterfly" currently riding high at no. 2 for a second week on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles.

"Butterfly" is a great rap song, the video is beautiful, the band is talented, unfortunately they are wasted in this album with hard bang rock with no rhythm, hooks, or talent.

"Butterfly" is the ONLY standout song here, and this will be very misleading to people who buy this album, because the rest of this album has no relation to this song.

You can tell by the awful cover art that you are getting into some serious dark rock territory.

If you are POP music fan like me, buy the single and do not waste your money on this garbage.

    4 out of 5 stars A Gift of Intruments.......2006-04-18

I don't know what it is about anime soundtracks, but they're beginning to appeal to me a great deal more now that they're becoming apart of special edition sets. Not only that, but it's the only other type of music I'm willing to invest money in besides rap. Which is what makes my rating for this soundtrack so surprising, even to me, because all of the tracks found here are instrumentals played out with an odd assortment of instruments (the kind not found in rap, in other words). Yet I couldn't deny the beauty of some of the songs on this album, and therefore felt that it deserved some recognition.

As I said, a majority of the songs on this CD are instrumentals, using most of the time a piano, violin, or cello as the focal point. To add, there are quite a few tracks on this album, twenty-seven in total, and none of them are script tracks, as Geneon (this CD is from Bandai) is known for putting on their anime soundtracks. Very few of the songs are longer than two minutes; in fact, only six of them go beyond that point. But even some of the shorter songs have something worth listening to, especially tracks twenty-six and twenty-seven, the opening and ending themes, respectively, which are the only two tracks with vocals. Other good tracks are "01: Voyage" which is an inspirational orchestral track and a great intro to a good CD, especially when the cello makes its appearance; "03: Children of Befort", the longest track on the CD at nearly eight minutes, is a haunting piece, which has an accompanying piano version later on (track 19), which is also pretty good; "12: Soran and Sess", an upbeat mechanical-sounding song that, for some reason, caught my ear instantly; and the cello version of an earlier track entitled "06: Helga" (the piano version is track 18). Beyond that, though, there are actually few skip-tracks on this CD. If I had to name a couple, though, it would be the second and seventeenth, as very little in these two tracks have any appeal, but that is more of a personal opinion.

In the end, when I finally took the headphones off, I was satisfied with the fact that I bought the special edition of Fantastic Children, because the CD was actually worth the extra money spent. It may not be a masterpiece, but it has a lot of worth when you want something light and easy to listen to, or if you truly enjoy the Fantastic Children anime (which I have yet to watch as of the time of this review). I don't know if I could recommend it as a stand-alone purchase, though, as the vast number of shorter tracks do make it feel a bit cheap at times, which is the reason why I didn't give it five stars. This is a good companion to what is a promising anime.

        5 out of 5 stars Whatever.......2001-05-05

Crazy Town's The Gift of Game cd rocks. It has very [erotic]... tones but it lso has some serious meaning on some of the songs. It has a hip-hop/rock/pop kind of sound to it and it is a cd that will get you ready to party all night long.

        5 out of 5 stars erotic.......2001-01-30

This is the best of a mixed version of rap, and love, and hard rock.I love it.The song "butterfly" says it all...and even more. The vocals are good, and you can understand the words of the songs. That says Volumes !!!
