Culled from the band's ten year, six album career, Lest we Forget: The Best of Marilyn Manson features some of the greatest rock anthems of the last decade. Opening with "The Love Song" from Holy Wood, it proceeds to the first of a handful of cover songs which have made it as singles. The decadent, beefed up version of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" may not vary much from the original but the band do it the appropriate Goth justice; "Tainted Love" adds a menacing, industrial-glam to the electric northern soul of Soft Cell's version; and the one that broke them into the UK mainstream, "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics sounds as good as ever. So, they do a good cover but it's really the fists in the air crowd-pleasing anthems that back up the band's iconic imagery. The high-energy signature tune, "Beautiful People" and tracks like "Disposable Teens" or "The Fight Song" typify the band's intelligent approach to rock'n'roll posturing. While many may have all the albums already, Lest We Forget is the perfect addition for anyone who likes the odd song but was too fearful to delve any further in the world of Marilyn Manson. --Georgina Collins

If you're a fan of the work, but not enough to buy all the collection, this is a good place to start. Most of the bigger hits from the last few albums, but the last few kind of felt like filler to me.

Good, but missing some key pieces.......2006-05-11

I have liked Manson for a long long time now. (I am actually over 13 y/o but too lazy to make a username and all) But when I picked up this album I expected there to be some songs on here that weren't, which deeply dissapionted me. I had definitely expected to see Coma White and (s)AINT. And I thought that maybe tracks like Man That You Fear, Spade, Dope Hat, Vodevil, The Golden Age of Grotesque, Antichrist Superstar, or Angel With The Scabbed Wings. I was absolutely shocked to not see Coma White or (s)AINT and was even more shocked to see The Reflecting God and Lunchbox taking up room on the CD. I realize others may like those songs, but I never thought them to be all that great. But there are some very good songs on this album. I'd still reccomend just buying all of his other CD's so you won't miss out. SID

The best of Manson!.......2006-04-17

Marilyn Manson is a master at music imagery and rock and it truly shines in this two disc set. The first disc is a audio disc with some of Manson's biggest hits including 1994's Lunchbox from the Portrait of an American Family album, their breakthrough hit Sweet Dreams a cover of the Eurythmics version, The Beatiful People off of Antichrist Superstar, The Dope Show off of Mechanical Animals, the Nobodies off of Holy Wood, and mOBSCENE off of his latest release The Golden Age of Grotesque.

Manson's unique vocal style and the thrashing guitar hooks from gutarists like Daisy Berkowits and John 5 blend perfectly to create a sound that no other can duplicate. The songs range from anthems for kids being bullied everywhere in Lunchbox delving from Manson's painful and unique past to a song about drugs and how we use them to numb ourselves in The Dope Show. The lyrics at times are very dark but also are very upbeat. Anything but happy.

The second disc is a DVD of all of Manson's videos except for (s)aint, Personal jesus, and Astonishing Paranorma of the Endtimnes. It shows how Manson's look has changed throughout the years. In mOBSCENE we get to see Manson's enormously attractive burlesque queen wife Dita Von Teese. The videos can be shocking in that of Tourniquet and at times sad in Coma White but are basically what you would expect from Manson. All of his videos are unedited and raw. They give you a whole history of Manson's career throught videos.

Basically this set is a must have for any Manson fan. It will not disappoint. Trust me.

Alright, to everyone who thinks Marilyn Manson is the Spawn of Satan(excuse my chuckling, I'm Buddhist),you are mistaken! I saw an interview with Manson, who said "you know, I don't really beleive all that stuff I sing"(or something along those lines). He is NOT the antichrist, for those of you who beleive in such of a thing.If he beleived HALF the crap he sings, he would have killed himself years ago.

When I was ten years old, Marilyn Manson's "Mechanical Animals" was topping the charts, but I didn't really understand nor care for him. I got this greatest hits album today to hear his work (I only knew about 4 or 5 of his songs). The album was pretty good. "rock is dead", "tainted love" and "the dope show" are pretty good, but the majority of the album isn't too much my thing. He is, however, an influential part of rock music history and I can see his talent. He is a little to negative and violent in my opinion, at least for such a small, skinny white person. Maybe he had a really really bad childhood...Anyway, I would recommend this album because none of his albums are really good at all besides this and maybe mechanical animals, which isn't too great besides a handful of songs (in my opinion).

i LOVED this Cd. the first one his i bought and soon after became obsessed with marilyn manson. i now have all thier cds and know all the words to all the songs. but one thing i wished he would do is kick the asses of big and rich. the country singers who in their new song say they "scared the hell out of marilyn manson".. ive got news for those red necks.. Marilyn manson would eat your souls! thats it for now! rock on and remember WE are the nobodies!!!!!!

Give me a break! This is the best!.......2005-06-10

Ha ha! There is no better Manson CD than this, because this IS THE BEST! The Germany bonus track "S(AINT)" makes even better, although I don't see why they could've just put it on the original release. Anyway, this CD has the singles, but not ALL of them. I am not going to give it one less star. Listen to the 30-second previews and you'll see what I'm talking about. DO NOT get the original version. Either get the deluxe or the Germany Bonus Track, because you'll get a better deal with your money.

WONDERING WHICH VERSION TO GET?.......2005-10-28

Alright, here we have Marilyn Manson's Best Of Album. Now I think it's safe to say Marilyn Manson is one of my favorite bands, what with me having all their CDs, rare songs, DVD, Seen them in concert, know the meaning to every song, read Manson's book, etc. So you can consider this information which I present to you, to be accurate and reliable. When this was first released, I went online read things about it, wanting info on the DVD. There is a lot of content on it; however, there are about 4 or 5 music videos missing from the US version. The DVD is the main reason for looking at this product. I will try to show you the best version to get of Lest We Forget.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE CD ONLY VERSION.
The CD has good songs on it, but if you really want a "Best of", then you'll have to get all his primary CDs. Most Best Of's, are simply filled with the top radio hits of the band. I'm not surprised that many of my favorite songs are missing like Dope Hat or Angel with the Scabbed Wings. I only listen to this disc every once in a while because it's fun to press the shuffle button, not expecting what is to come next. All the songs from Antichrist Superstar have also been remastered, sounding slightly different, most noticeably with the Beautiful People which sounds louder and has the volume of Gacy's keyboard cranked up noticeably. The one new song, Personal Jesus (originally by Depeche Mode) is a love it or hate it song by many. It's an alright cover, not Manson's best by any means but certainly not his worst. The CD also contains their cover of Tainted Love and A Long Hard Road Out of Hell, both of which have only been on Soundtracks and it's nice to finally have them on a real CD.

LOOKING AT THE IMPORTS?
There are a variety of Imports out there, each with a slightly different track listing. There are two Imports you should be looking at, depending on your budget. The European/UK Import, has two bonus tracks, (S) AINT and Irresponsible Hate Anthem (also remastered). This Edition's DVD has the banned (S)AINT video and the Personal Jesus Video. These two videos can not be found on the US version and I think that's probably because both have nudity (mostly in (S)AINT). If this were sold in the stores, it would be like selling Pornography to kids. Even on this version there's a Dime sized 18 stamped on the front of the packaging. This is also the version I got and found it at amazon.co.uk for about $25, including shipping.

The only other Import that you should be looking at is the Japanese Import. Why do the Japanese always get the most content? The answer to that eludes me, but the Japanese get the two bonus UK tracks plus Coma White as a third. That is one of the songs that most people have complained as missing on the U.S. Version. It also has the DVD, nothing different It's exactly the same. Here is the real Kicker: The Japanese get a bonus disc of "Rarities!" It consists of seven remixes and a cover that can all be found on the internet or Singles. Here's the track list.

So it's eight songs, but none of them are terribly hard to find. Only get this if you have the money, get it used for a lower price, etc.

The IMPORT'S DVD:
Plenty of content however there isn't a version that contains the videos for Tainted Love or Astonishing Panorama of the End Times. "Astonishing" has two versions, both of which are made by the guys from Celebrity Death Match, one is the band playing the song, the other is the band playing the song and are then interrupted by Ricky Martin and a hilarious fight begins. Not quite sure if the second counts as a video but it's definitely something Manson fans would want to see. Oh, and yes the DVD is REGION CODED!!! I still don't understand the need for Region Codes, but make sure your DVD player is not REGION CODED. Luckily both of mine are not. I once brought it to a friend's house and it did not work there. Look up information on Region Codes and then check your DVD player.

EASTER EGGS!!!
Easter Eggs are always a fun thing for DVD fanatics. They are little hidden treats, or bonus material. There are four; I have a 1000 word limit, so simply search the internet and you'll find them quickly. They can be found on all Versions with the DVD.

If you are new to Marilyn Manson, then I actually wouldn't suggest you start with this album like so many have said. Just pick any full length album and you'll get hooked. However some commercial genius thought it would be a good idea to make this CD/DVD version to be limited, so hunt this down quickly if you want it. Sure the US DVD is much easier to find, but if you are a big Manson fan then the Import is great to have in your collection. I'm sure a Box Set will eventually be released with the missing content but that won't be for a long time. Marilyn Manson makes the best music videos, most of them make very interesting points and tell good stories if you look at them closely. Well I hoped this Review helped a lot of you in figuring out which version to get. Good luck hunting it down, it's worth the effort.

Beware!.......2005-09-09

For some reason no one seems to have had a problem with this DVD, but I did. I bought this item primarily for the DVD so I could watch the videos, but it does not work in my DVD player. It keeps saying it's a different region code. (In other words I got ripped off.) Luckily the CD is fine and I can listen to the music which is nice.

But beware when buying this item-- the DVD may not work in your player and it would be a shame losing your money.

I pre-ordered this CD in advance just so I could get the video for (s)AINT. As far as I know, it was the only way to get it.

I enjoy the video collection, even though the video for "Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes is not on it.

I also would say that I do not consider most of the songs on the albnum to be "greatest hits", though that may be the cruel irony of Marilyn Manson. I know I would have done it differently myself.
