Album Description
Album number two and their Sub Pop debut. Thick-as-glue punk bombast and Aussie sludge stoke the coals of your existence. This album is diverse, but the Jeans ain't no dilettantes. Mixing volatility with humor is a hard thing to master in music. Pissed Jeans do it with smarts and poignancy. Consider the bar raised.

If you like their name, you'll love their music..........2007-07-26
If you've been bemoaning the general state of rock music lately, in particular the neutered whining that gets labeled as "punk," then have I got the band for you. The delightfully named Pissed Jeans hail from Allentown, Pennsylvania (that's right, like the Billy Joel song) and the ennui/alienation of working-class life in a depressed economy comes through in their music like pus from an infected wound. Instead of the classic rock stylings of Bruce Springsteen or John Mellencamp, this band gravitates more toward brutal, soul-dead noise rock, the kind that hasn't been around for a long time. While many of today's underground noise-heads (Wolf Eyes, Sightings, Lightning Bolt) keep at least one cloven foot in the avant-free-improv scene, Pissed Jeans stick to the doctrine of more rock, less art. There was a bygone era, the late 80s to early 90s, when indie labels like Amphetamine Reptile were famed soley for this kind of stuff (if you liked one AmRep release, you'd like them all), and bands like Cows, Hammerhead and Janitor Joe had cult followings among a certain brand of hipster. It was assumed the alt.rock explosion, and implosion, had killed off this sort of thing, but Pissed Jeans, not to mention the English band Part Chimp, are here to prove that theory wrong. Even longtime vets Unsane are back with a new disc (Visqueen), so maybe a noise-rock resurrection is afoot. Pissed Jeans are even signed to Sub Pop--their original roster of bands like Tad and Mudhoney probably influenced them. While their plodding, pounding and feedback bleeding exertions aren't exactly a new thing, in fact it's really kind of retro, this is the kind of mad-at-the-world-but-too-screwed-up-to-do-anything-about-it racket that, oddly enough, acts as a balm when you feel trapped in Bush-occupied-America.
Hope for rock.......2007-07-26
Just when I was starting to once again lose my faith in rock music Pissed Jeans comes along and releases this gem. Loud, heavy, ridiculous lyrics. It is everything you could want in an album

Customer Reviews:
Another Great Toys Album!.......2006-01-11
This would be the 3rd effort by Austin's own Dangerous Toys. I remember waiting for this album to come out and going out to the store to pick it up the moment it came out. Being a local band we could go see DT at the Back Room or some place around Austin anytime we wanted to. And we did. This album was the first on an independent label and we find the Toys getting better and better with each new album, while maintaining their hard-edge beginnings at the same time.
I played each of these albums many times as each would come out. And as good as each of these albums are (all 4) these guys were somehow always much much better live. I think of many good times when I hear this album.
Favorite songs: Pissed, Paintrain, Promise The Moon, Strange, Hard Luck Champion, Screamin' For More, Oh Well, So What!, and Illistraited Man.
Pissed alright.......2004-03-15
When Dangerous Toys returned 3 years after Hellacious Acres, they were hungry to prove a few points.
This is a basic rock'n roll album with brilliant songs and no BS. The songs are very strong here. No danger of fillers.
1. Pissed - The title track is a very good hard rock song great riff, lyrics and chorus. A winner.
2. Paintrain - Slighly groovier. I love this song. Maybe me favourite.
3. The Law Is Mine - Very catchy, a bit poppy but very cool indeed.
4. Promise The Moon - DT always had good slow songs. This ballad is no exception. No typical soppy hair band ballad here.
5. Strange - A very cool track. Intense and crazy. Strange.
6. Loser - My kind of song. Rock 'n Roll with a great hook. Cool lyrics too.
7. Hard Luck Champion - Another winner.
8. Screamin' For More - This is the best one. Everything about this song is quality. Laid back rocker.
9. Oh Well So What - DT being a bit punkish, great lyrics.
10. Illustrated Man - This is another amazing song. The songwriting is great.
Another winner from Dangerous Toys.
This is a great, sadly overlooked album.......2003-04-03
I haven't heard the re-master of this album, but the original release had some great sounding guitars and bass. And it's as good as the first Dangerous Toys disc, in my opinion....80's style rock was still surviving in 1994. Do you remember?
Not their best but far from bad........2000-07-06
If you like their first 2 cds, then you like this one too. Its not as hard and diverse as the s/t cd but is definitely worth a shot. Its great to see that DT was able survive during the grunge era and produce great albums. This cd was recently digitally remastered. Make sure to get this copy!

Love the band... HATE this CD........2003-04-17
For the first time I feel ripped off by this band and since I love what they do and what they stand for (HARDCORE pride in heritage & their punk attitude) that makes the feeling even more painful. Let's start with the content. Considering that this is the same group that put out "Loch'd & Loaded" last year (one of THE best CD's that I've bought in the last 5 years) I just have one question... Where are those songs? Not one of those kicking tunes has a live counterpart here. Second, the sound quality and production is terrible!! It's song continuity seems spliced, the audience sounds like they're asleep and , let's be honest, Paul's voice was not in the best shape that night. Still, there are highlights; "Stompin' Intro" & "Will Ye Be Proud" are good (not great). I don't understand why other people have given this such high marks?
Don't get me wrong.. I will still where their t-shirts (w/ my kilt no less) and will eagerly await the next studio outing from them (I still expect great things someday), but to be honest I must recommend you avoid this recording (especially if you are new to the McKenzie's fold). Get the afore mentioned "Loch'd & Loaded" or "Clash of the Tartans" (See my reviews on each} instead. Oh, and for God's sake... GO SEE THEM LIVE when they come to town. I had to miss the time they came to Charlotte because it was the day after my last chemotherapy treatment (Buy them a drink for me please).
Take heart though... If you still want punk rock & bagpipes live I recommend you get "Live on St. Patrick's Day" by the McKenzie's good friends and bothers in arms... the Dropkick Murphys.
Clan Davidson approved for good times.......2003-03-04
The Real McKenzies are an excellent live band, and this collection does good justice to the energy and spontaneity of their live shows. "Pissed Tae Th' Gills" is a great mix of songs from their previous albums, along with some new tunes not released elsewhere.
As it is a Robbie Burns show, they do their Burns repertoire with "Scots Wa Hae" and "Auld Lang Syne." It would have been nice to have heard a few more Burns songs. Perhaps they could have learned "Ye Jacobites By Name" or written something for "Address to a Haggis."
There is a good collection of their own tunes, and some of my favorites. "Bastards" is a great song. Plenty of old Scottish hits in terms of "Loch Lomond" and "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean." Live I have heard them do a medley of these two tunes. "The Real McKenzies Stompin Intro" is worth the price of the CD alone. "Haggises" is the reason why live CDs are so much fun.
A great CD for any fan of the Real McKenzies. Gotta have it.
Clan Matheson Approved for Drunken Singalongability.......2002-12-10
More than Braveheart, Scottish Games or Johnnie Walker Black OR Red, the Real McKenzies make me prood tae be Highland. Why? Because they give We Proud Scots a voice and the voice rocks like crazy. This live record of a Robert "Robbie" Burns (1759-1796) memorial show is a roaring tribute to Scot pride and history. All your McKenzie favorites of whiskey and combat are here. I would've MAYBE traded "Stone of Kings" for "Ballad of John Silver" but it wasn't my show, and besides this version of "Stone" kicks kilted [bottom]. Robbie is represented well throughout from "My Bonnie" to "Auld Lang Syne". Be the first on your block to get an awesome live version of this venerable, international Scot classic and crank it up at midnight on 1/1/03. Oh yeah, and a track called "Haggises" that paraphrases "Nemesis" by '80s wierdos Shriekback. There's a DVD and VHS version of this I gotta track down now. Buy this and Ye WILL Be Proud! Fac et Spera!

snatches from a masterpeice.......2003-10-26
The 1980's knew at least one absolute postpunk masterpiece which went by unnoticed: In the Good Old Country Way by the Nightingales. This band started out in line with early the Fall, but on that third album, after pleny changes of personnel, they opened up an entire new musical universe, Kinks-like, though with violin, a wide range of stylistic phantasy, and so much more. Each and every selection was sheer tension, wit, passion and life. All of this was the brainchild of vocalist and main songsmith Robert Lloyd, one of the most impressive voices I've ever heard. In retrospect the two earlier albums Pigs on Purpose and Hysterics sound relatively dated, though they do comprise several wonderful postpunk songs. Now on this compilation you will find several gems from these three albums, and they should not be missed. Yet, In the Good Old Country Way should absolutely reissued in full some day!!!
Essential for fans of Fall, Slovenly, Shrubs, Big Flame.......2001-11-03
If you like The Shrubs, Big Flame, A Witness, Jackdaw With Crowbar, Rip Rig & Panic, The Pop Group or 23 Skidoo then buy this.

Rowdy and Ready.......2005-04-30
Man...this cd rocks!!! if your sitting down, you'll get up and move...if your driving...watch the speedlimit cause you'll automatically start going faster...the best country/punk band around. These guys bring back old school country music at a fast and furious pace...think, Ramones meets Haggard or maybe Hank Sr. The pedal steel of Greg and Timbo's rough and ready vocals set the pace and the rest of the band have no problems keeping up. Run!, don't walk to the checkout counter below with this CD...you'll thank me for it...but thats not needed...just send money!

Cowpunk--country's alternative.......2005-03-04
Speedbuggy has been playing all over the world for quite a few years now, but until Red Eyed and Rowdy, none of their recordings captured the best part of this four (sometimes five) piece-- the energy of a live show. This record is a great example of what the stale sound of country in the '80s and '90s led to-- a return to classic country and rockabilly mixed with punk. This CD is FANTASTIC!
