Greatest Metal CD I've Heard.......2007-05-11
I really like Nymphetamine. It was the first CD I've ever owned of Cradle of Filth. Nymphetamine is obviously the best song on the album, but I also liked Swansong for a Raven and English Fire. Eight and nine are good tracks, too. I really like how each album that Cradle of Filth puts out tends to have some type of theme. For instance, this album tends to be more of a Salem witch trial-type theme (where woods represent evil, death is by hanging, etc.) Damnation and a Day is obviously about Lucifer's fall from Heaven and his new reign over Hell and the extent to his power. This is probably still their second-best album in my opinion. I think Damnation and a Day probably beats it.
Gets unfairly critcized.......2007-04-06
Cradle of Filth has gotten unfairly criticized for reasons that I have yet to find true. Some say its not "black metal", or its "trendy" or because they appeared on Viva La Bam, they are sellouts. First off, black metal fans seem to compare them Mayham, Gorgoroth, Emperor, and Dark Throne. If we look at the older material of some of these bands, the sound was completly different 10yrs ago or even farther back then that. Some of the bands such as Emperor have taking a more modern approach on the Black Metal sound. Comparisions really arent fair, because we could could compare Bolt Throwers "Doom" type metal to Cyrotopsy's "Progrssive" Style metal. Same genre, two completly different sounds. COF might not follow traditional black metal style, but its still pretty solid. The band has some great lyrics, and the musical ability of the band is rock solid. I have always thought of the band with a Marilyn Manson type sound, that is speed up (such as with the heavy use of keyboards) and Danni does have an exteme vocal that is very "Black" Metal like. If we look at other "True" black metal bands such as "Emperor"(newer),"Old Man's Child" and "DB" you will find that they use a lot of the same technical aspects that COF uses. Please note when I say "true" I dont mean that these are great bands and they define "black metal" Its just that this is the classification that these bands get, unlike Cradle, which says they arent black metal, but then again, who cares, and even if the band themselves or fans tell you they arent, they still have a heavy influence by black metal bands such as "Hellhammer" and "Venon" If you can find it listen to COF cover of "Black Metal" It really kicks some a**. Regardless of what we want, or what the band wants to classify it, they are still a powerful band, and even though they might be in danger of selling out (I get this from the things that I have read, but I just dont see it happening) BUT IF IT DOES, there is always the older material, and this brillent album that has very little filler. ENJOY
Actually really good.......2007-02-16
This is about 3.5 stars - a pretty good album. When I first heard this band, I remember thinking they were frightful. Bt that's not actually true. If you take time to look at the lyrics - Dani Filth really knows how to write a song, and he uses words I never even heard of before I listened to the song. He has a really imaginative and original way of describing things, which is awesome. The instruments are fantastic as well - the guitars in particular. And they scream rather than sing, but that's really what helps add flavour to the style of music - my friend (who loves hiphop) said that his 'singing' was rubbish - but that's part of the style of music.
And for all you people who say it's full of swearing - Green Day,American Idiot has more swearing than this, so it's actually not too bad - and they do not CONSTANTLY rant on about Satan the way some metal bands do. They do sometimes, but not constantly.
So all in all, this is a pretty good band - but not one of my favourites.
Welcome to the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Schlongs.......2007-01-15
This is an excellent CD by the band Cradle of Filth! The track Nemesis surpasses anything the band has ever put out thus far. Redrum! Redrum! cries Jack Nicholson, in a voice that reminds me of my mum yelling at me for picking my nose when I was just a wee lad. This band is excellent! They are really in touch with that "Halloween" feeling. I don't mean the band "Helloween", but the actual church-going holiday,
"Halloween". Now, I know you're probably thinking "hey, what's happening here", but do you remember the candy corns you would always get. Those things are so cheap and nasty, but they really remind me of this band. Nowadays, mums and dads buy better candy, like little small irish looking candy bars and orange colored jelly beans. Do you remember the candy with the orange and sometimes black wrappers? Gee, those were awful. They probably made those at the same factory where they make those wax bottle candies with the liquid juice in the middle. But those were actually good, I especially liked the blue ones. O.K., the next song, "Absinthe with Faust" even sounds scary by the song title. It really scares me and reminds me of the facist regime in Italy during WWII. Just the name does that. The actual song sounds once again like me mum or grandmum. Redrum! Redrum! cries Jack, I like Pez better than all the halloween candies, actually. Why didn't they make Pez for Halloween? Pez was always in it's own little world. They never jumped on the candy bandwagon, always staying true to the Pez taste. I really respect and love Pez. Cradle of Filth are not a Pez band, they are a Candy Corn type band. Wow,hey, do you remember those white cigarrette candies that have fake blow dust on them, with the red tip? Yeah, you remember now. Those were the best by far, but they didn't have much taste, kind of tasted like chalk, but good chalk, like the kind the teachers used, not the kind you buy at the store, it just wasn't as good as classroom chalk. Halloween is scary, and Cradle of Filth are very, very scary. Did you ever put the dog doo outside the front door and light it on fire? Cradle of Filth have a song for that on song #11 called "Filthy Little Secret". It's so Halloween oriented, and it is their "Filthy Little Secret". Dan Quail comes to mind when I hear this kind of music, I don't know why. I'm sorry, you're wondering, "Holy cow, what in the world is going on here", Dan Quayle. Hey, I can't spell Quayle, but I saw him once when I was working at a restaraunt in Arizona and I asked him if he would like the Mashed Potatoes or Baked Potatoe with his steak. It's really is hard to spell Potato. All in all, Cradle of Filth are a very scary goblin band, and they remind me of Bugs Bunny when the witch tried to make rabbit stew out of him. The singer really, really, and I know you'll agree, reminds me of the wicked witch of the East from Wizard of Oz, or is it the West? That always really bugged me, I just can't understand the different witches. It makes me frustrated to even talk about it, East, West, good witch, where was the good witch from, the Midwest, maybe Canada? Was the good witch really good, or was it a scam? Very Hollywood, very scary, very Cradle of Filth. We're off to see the wizard, and Dorothy would have loved Cradle of Filth. She needed that as a child, but Joan Crawford who didn't play Dorothy, was the real Cradle of Filth. Dorothy was good, Joan Crawford was the real singer from cradle of Filth. The new singer, Dani, is a poor imitator of the child abusing idiot Joan Crawford. Her kids should have stuffed some candy corns down her mouth until she choked on those nasty yellow yokes. Redrum! Redrum! Mummy dearest is coming, mummy dearest is coming, Dani sings, mummy, mummy dearest, can we trick or treat tonight? No, you will go to your room without dinner, and no candy corns! Thank god she's dead. Happy Halloween, Boris Alfredo
Not Black Metal.......2006-12-02
I was talking with a guy I work with about metal. I mentioned black metal and he started talking about cradle of filth. I was disgusted by his lack of knowledge on the genre, seeing as how he had just told me that he listened to the most extreme bands possible(he was talking about As I Lay Dying and Norma Jean, which are little emo post-hardcore bands
hahahahahahaha). That just goes to show you how ignorant of not just black metal, but metal in general most emo and goth kids are.
Bottom Line:If you like cradle of filth you are a trendy.

Extra sales.......2007-05-04
Firstly, the remake of "Nymphetamine" is a just what it is, a remake, a second take for the Sara fans. Liv is capable of high, low and middle ranges. She is even capable of operatic vocals. In this case, her vocals, soft and light, add to the eerieness of the song. Sara's sound out of place and make the song awkward. The harmony is tacky. This is a slow song, and the power contrasts between light beautiful vocals and growls, not to uncommon with Liv's vocals in Theatre of Tragedy (with growls of the male singer) and Leaves' Eyes, again with growls. There is no way the alternate take could have provided the over-all mood "Nymphetamine" brings. The original version is very creepy, eerie, and yet beautiful. Liv added as a great guest in the video too, not just because of her beauty. I think Sara is a brilliant vocalist, and she has her prominent part in more powerful Cradle songs. But some nay-sayers of Liv don't know who she is, or they would realise that she has had a prominent part of the metal scene sense the early ninetees. She isn't some gimmick for trendy goth folk.
As for a "Special Version", nothing convinces me that this was for the fans, rather than for a few extra bucks. This is a novelty release. The extra's sound rushed. Moonspell have provided a better cover of Mr. Crowley. This band goes through good and bad stages, like a lot of bands. I am not bashing the creativity and efforts of this band because it isn't their intentions of appealing to neo-goth kids these days. The record companies want to over-promote these bands as much as possible. These kids are just jumping on the band wagon. Since the internet has progressed, access to these so-called underground bands has risen and kids find ways to access these not-so maintream bands. Nymphetamine is a romantic album. Romanticism can be expressed through many ways.
Great Cd.......2007-03-15
Alright, let's get this out of the way: I know CoF used to play harder, straight-up symphonic black metal before this. Even though this is my first CoF cd, I still want their older stuff. I'm not a mallcore kid, emokid, goth, etc. Just a guy who loves various sorts of music. This includes black metal and gothic metal. Which is just what this is; a combination symphonic black metal and gothic metal. Or to others, vampyric metal. It's not the most extreme or raw black metal out there, if you want that, check out Mayhem, Bathory, etc. But just because it contains gothic metal, don't except it to sound like H.I.M. (poo), Evanescence (poo again), or Lacuna Coil. Is it hard? Yes. It is symphonic? Yes. It's a whole lot harder than what a lot of mallcore kids are listening to. It might just get them to listen to some of Cof's earlier stuff, or even to different black metal bands. As for the music itself, it's great. Each song flows into each other perfectly and does a good job showcasing CoF's sound. I also like Dani's vocals. Some hate him, but I don't. I've listened to far worse, like the guy from Shadows Fall. Anyway, I've read that Dani isn't as vicious on here as on other albums. That may be true, but doesn't mean he is a wuss either. He still does the black rasping, some death growls, and this weird black whispering. Also Liv's performance on the title track is good. As for this second disc in this collection, we get a Cliff Richard's cover, "Devil Woman". It's actually pretty good considering it's an odd selection. King Diamond does backing vocals on this one. Next we get a b-side from Nymphetamine, "Soft White Throat". Overall a good song, but nothing spectacular. The next song is a Bathory cover, "Bestial Lust (Bitch)". I haven't listened to the original, so I can't compare the two, but this is pretty good and showcases some of Dani's more extreme vocals. The next song is another b-side, "Prey". Like "Soft White Throat", good, but nothing spectacular. Then there is another version of "Nymphetamine"; however, Liv's singing is replaced with Sarah Jezebel's singing. In fact, I love this one better than the original and think that Sarah has a better singing voice than Liv. Though Liv's is nowhere near bad. Finally we have a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr. Crowely". I think this song is the best of three cover songs on here, and actually does justice to the original. Of course some of you will disagree with me, but it's my opinion. A great set from start to finish and has become one of my favorite albums. I highly recommend this to those who like black metal, symphonic black metal, gothic metal, and vampyric metal. Or those who are trying to get into afore said genres.
My opinions.......2007-02-26
Like the others have said, this is very different than past Cradle Of Filth albums but you do gotta realize they can't keep doing the same thing , but to get to the point, while some think of this album as garbage I feel it is a very well put together album and I'd recommend it to others. These are just my thoughts, if you think different then that's cool, just stick to their old stuff.
Nothing short of a masterpiece........2006-07-02
I have read a million reviews of this CD, and for some reason it's considered their worst album. Why, i'll never understand. In my opinion it is a masterpiece, on par with Dusk And Her Embrace and Midian, if not a step above.
Song by song:
1. Satyriasis - [8/10] One of my favorite instrumental tracks by C.O.F. It has a sense of urgency and build-up that just explodes when Gilded C*nt kicks in.
2. Gilded C*unt - [10/10] This is one of the best album-openers i've ever heard. The beginning sounds like armageddon in musical form, and just when you think it can't get any more intense, the thrash kicks in and Dani's venom-spitting vocals welcome you back into the land of C.O.F. Alternates between mid-tempo heaviness and pure thrash genious. Overall, a great metal song.
3. Nemesis - [10/10] One of my favorites off of this album. Not too heavy, not too speedy, but just... beautiful. The lyrics are basically poetry, and the guitar riffing is emotional as opposed to an excersise is technicality. Though it clocks in at over 7 minutes, it never gets boring and always remains haunting and intense. A masterpiece.
4. Gabrielle - [8/10] An awesome song. Doesn't stand out compared to the rest of the album, but even so, you'll never want to skip over it. Slows down for almost two minutes in the bridge before putting the pedal to the metal again for the ending. Great lyrics.
5. Absinthe With Faust [15/10] The best song off of the album in my opinion. This song is just pure heartwrenching beauty. It represents everything that this album is. The guitar riff that kicks in at 2: 29 and comes back again later in the song is gorgeous, and the strings add a nice layer of sound. The ending of the song gives the same sense of urgency that you get with Satyriasis, which then leads nicely into Nymphetamine Overdose. An amazing song.
6. Nympthetamine Overdose [10/10] One of Cradle Of Filth's most beautiful and emotional songs perfectly encased in two slabs of thrashing bliss. If you've heard the song Nymphetamine on the radio or anywhere else, it's that, just with a different intro and outro. However, it's very different and worth your time. The constant addition of strings even over heavier riffs is awesome. 7:14 to the end is a headbanging favorite of mine.
7. Painting Flowers White Never Suited My Palette - [9/10] Another instrumental piece. Very intense, brings L.O.T.R. to mind :) Very ethereal, multifaceted beginning that sounds like a flight to heaven with the angels, until halfway through, when after a brief vocal solo, Cradle plunges you straight back into hell with much darker orchestration. Good break from the heaviness, beautiful piece.
8. Medusa And Hemlock [9/10] - Not much ethereal or pretty material here, just f***ing metal. Lots of choir work in the background.
9. Coffin Fodder [8/10] - Great guitar intro, and great dualing guitars throughout the verse. Again, if i could only choose 5 songs from the album, this wouldn't be one of them, but still a great song. The main riff is very epic. Awesome track.
10. English Fire [10/10] - Similar in ways to Absinthe With Faust. Not too fast or heavy, but emotional and beautiful. Nice piano work. One of my favorites off of the album.
11. Filthy Little Secret [10/10] - Another thrasher. Kicks in right away with a good old-school metal riff. Cradle again manages to be heavy as hell, but have a continuing mood of sadness. Insane guitar solo in the bridge. The verses in this song are amazing (1:05-1:26 for example). Another C.O.F. song that clocks in at almost 7 minutes, but never gets boring or old.
12. Swansong For A Raven [15/10] - One of the most beautiful intros i've ever heard, right before Cradle comes in, barrels blazing with one of the fastest riffs i've ever heard them play. The mood constantly alternates in this song, but every part remains catchy and interesting and C.O.F. tie it all together. Overall, it has feeling of lost beauty and much sadness (as does much of the album). An amazing song. Great piano work. Guitar riff from 6:03 to end is especially good. Has one of the most haunting piano outros i've ever heard.
13. Mother Of Abominations [10/10] I couldn't have asked for a better album closer. This song begins with one of C.O.F.'s classic chanting mantras, which swells until they kick it in with shredding 36 seconds in, and then completely throw it down at 56. All the way through, an intense, pounding, menacing monster of a song. Nice fade out at the end. A perfect ending to a near-perfect album.
As an album, this is much more emotional and filled with sadness and beauty than their previous work (which is mind-blowing as well, just different). It is an amazing piece of music that has a mood no other album can capture. It is dark, beautiful, tragic, and filled with songs that will blow you away.
Go buy it.
Now.
Worst album yet.......2005-12-30
I'm not going to play the "sell-out" card. I'm not going to play the "true black metal" card. But I am going to say this is CoF's worst album ever. If I want symphonic female Kate Bush/Tori Amos passages, I'll listen to Tristania. There's no bite, no aggression to this album. Half of this fits more into a category of "dated power metal" than the Gothic Black Metal we've come to expect. Dani's vocal arrangements are redundant and merely a re-vomiting of everything he's done to date. No barriers broken here. Damnation and a Day led me to think this would be an excellent follow-up. Save your money and save the embarassment. Go buy a Britney Spears album or something else instead.

Is it REALLY worth the price?.......2005-02-19
Now, if you really want my review of Nymphetamine, check out the american pressing on the site and you will find it there, now if you did see my other review i was pretty tough on it. The only two songs i despise are english fire and Gabrielle face it, those songs are not COF. Mother of Abominations is a step above bad. The rest are good but no atmoshpere no Gian on guitar, Adrian while great on this album needs to pick it up a little bit. Now if you just like cof have heard this cd or another. Don't buy it, this cd is for people who's favorite band is cradle of filt hand are willing to shell out 40 plus dollars for this. Beastial Lust is a good Bathory song and cof does a good job covering it even though I would have rather heard them Cover Bathory's For All Those Who Died (and no that is NOT the song they cover which is on Lovecraft & Witchheart and the Jap. import of Midian)so if you love cof and wish to complete your collection. Buy this, if not, don't even consider it. To finish this, to the dumbass who called this Death metal and an EP, learn the facts before you go off writing half assed reviews.
Quite Good.......2004-11-18
I already have the American pressing of this album, and i'm tomorrow going to be sending of a money order for the Japanese version of it, with the extra bonus track, "Bestial Lust." I wouldn't reccomend anyone to do this, unless you're willing to go the extra mile for a new Cradle track, that won't be released till next year, on the Deluxe Edition of Nymphetamine.
Song Ratings are as followed:
1-Satyriasis: An instrumental track..sort of, it has some dialogue from "Les Litanies de Satan." Very Damnation and a Day-ish. I give it a 3/5
2-Gilded C*nt: The first official track on Nymphetamine, very raw riffs, and exceptional drum speed. This is quite possibly one of the fastest tracks, riffwise, i've ever heard Cradle do. And the melodies are wicked, and a non-melodic way. 4/5
3-Nemesis: This is an alright song, not one of my favorites, but an alright song. It too, instrumentally, has a slight Damnation feel to it. 3/5
4-Gabrielle: One of the first slow-moving ballad songs on Nymphetamine. It kind of gives of a "Born in a Burial Gown" kind of feel, but not quite. Instrumentally, it's quite melodic, but then soon moves into a hard hitting array of wicked riffage. 5/5
5-Absinthe with Faust: My favorite track on Nymphetamine. This has it all, a mix of hardcore, a mix of melody, and extremely thought out lyrics, by Cradle frontman Dani Filth. The begining riffs kind of remind you of a football game...(inside joke..you'll see what I mean, once you hear it.) 5/5
6-Nymphetamine (Overdose): The long version of the title track. It contains 9 minutes of story depicting, betrayal, addiction, and death. It goes from very sinister to very melodic, then washes its way back into the sinister feeling again. 5/5
7-Painting Flowers White Never Suited my Palette: Instrumental...nothing much to say about this, it's kind of boring to begin with, but then moves into a very euphoric feeling, kind of sound. 3/5
8-Medusa and Hemlock: A very cool track indeed, this has some of the coolest riffs i've ever heard Cradle do. At one point, the song gets slow, and sinister sounding. One of the better tracks on the album, I must say. 5/5
9-Coffin Fodder: An extremely melodic song, which has kind of an Iron Maiden feel to it. That's really all I can say, other than, this is a pretty good song. 4/5
10-English Fire: Prepare yourself for 4 minutes of pure melody, this song is slow, melodic, and actually..pretty cool. It has a "Thank God for the Suffering" feel to it, sorta..kinda, but not really. 5/5
11-Filthy Little Secret: This song has cool riffs and all, but lyrically, this song bored me to death..2/5
12-Swansong for a Raven: The sequal to "Her Ghost in the Fog", lyrically, nothing like it. Instrumentally, quite like it, but slightly different. I actually enjoy this more than Her Ghost..very cool song, indeed. 5/5
13-Mother of Abominations: This song, is pure wicked. It has a total and utter Midian feel to it. Or, more spacifically, a total and utter "Lord Abortion" feel to it. A defanant favorite of mine. Do not skip this track! 10/5 (yes 10..2nd fav. song, but most played.)
14-Nymphetamine (Fix): Short version of the title track, the one you heard on the music video..pretty good, but doesn't quite measure up to the Overdose version. 3/5
15-Bestial Lust: The Bathory cover which is JAPANESE PRESSING ONLY song, even though I havent purchased the Jap pressing yet, I have heard this song, and I liked what I heard. A def. exceptional Bathory cover! 5/5
Great Cradle of Filth album..........2004-09-02
Ok first of all, to correct the last "person" that just now got into Cradle of Filth...THEY ARE NOT DEATH METAL. They can be considered Black Metal or Vampyric Metal. Anywho... Nymphetemine, from what I have heard from the demos, is in fact a return to truer Cradle style. Damnation And A Day was a good album, but when compared to Cruelty And The Beast...there is none. However, Nymphetemine has a faster, rawer and more metal sound to it then the last album. I gave this album 5 stars because I have Cradle of Filth tattooed on my back and I know what good Cradle sounds like....and this is GOOOOOOD!
Fast, heavy, melodic, brutal.......2004-08-30
I popped this EP in not knowing what to expect. I'd only heard about this band and seen a few kids sporting their t-shirts, but I had never taken the time to hear their music...God am I glad that I did! This is the best death metal I've ever heard, and rest assured I'm going to be making a few more Cradle of Filth purchases in the near future.
