Give Daddy Yankee some credit for making Barrio Fino En Directo more than just a slapdash cash-in on his widepsread appeal. Fans will surely be appeased by this lush collection as they await the reggaeton superstar's proper follow-up to 2004's double-platinum Barrio Fino disc. The En Directo CD/DVD package isn't really a formal live disc, and it isn't a standard hits collection. Rather, it's a clever hybrid of past chart-toppers, in-concert moments, solid new tunes and slick documentary footage. The CD features energetic versions of "Corazones," "Lo Que Paso, Paso" and the ubiquitous "Gasolina" recorded at different stops throughout Daddy Yankee's monstrous live tour. There are also five new tracks, including the fist-pumping "Rompe" and collaborations with Snoop Dogg (the tongue-tripping "Gangsta Zone") and Houston-based rapper Paul Wall (slinky standout track "Machete Reloaded"). The new tracks further highlight Daddy Yankee's effortless medling of urban Latino rhythms and U.S. hip-hop beats. The accompanying DVD is stuffed with interesting moments, including a few live performances, a video for the socially conscious "Corazones," and a Q&A session featuring Daddy Yankee's takes on fame, family, retirement and rival Don Omar. There's also a trailer for the Spanish-language film "Talento de Barrio," which aspires to be DY's own version of Eminem's acclaimed "8 Mile" sprinkled with some of John Singleton's "Boys N the Hood." Barrio Fino En Directo is a CD/DVD packed with exciting new collaborations, behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive interviews, and live performances that reaffirm Yankee's title as the undisputed King of Reggaeton. The eagerly anticipated 16-song collection includes live renditions of hits like "Lo Que Paso, Paso," "Corazones," and the international phenomenon "Gasolina," as well as five new tracks produced by musical masterminds DJ Urba & Monserrate and rising star Sammy Fisher, among others. The first single, "Rompe," is quickly taking the airwaves by storm, beginning to tally up radio spins. The four other new songs on the album include "Gangsta Zone," featuring Hip-Hop icon Snoop Dogg; a remix of the club anthem "Machete" featuring Houston's latest sensation, Paul Wall; and the infectious "Machucando" and "El Truco".

The Barrio Fino En Directo DVD, directed by Carlos Perez, includes over sixty minutes of never-before-seen footage. Viewers can enjoy Yankee's energetic performance at his sold-out concert in Puerto Rico's Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot and also follow the artist around the globe during his extensive world tour. You can really feel the crowd erupt at the beginning of "king daddy" as he tells all the "Boricuas" to raise their arms! For me, even though I'm not fluent in spanish, you can still get the energy that he evokes from the crowd. It's on my workout playlist on my IPOD. The DVD is great as well, especially the interview. If you already have Barrio Fino, then En directo is a great addition!!

Alejandro Fernandez is a smoldering, confident live performer. His booming voice, swaggering sensuality and passionate personality are an absolute pleasure to watch onstage. It's a charismatic combination that's matched by few of his contemporaries. Musically speaking, Fernandez has always managed a precarious balance of old and new worlds. His pop recordings have taken him to the heartthrob heights of Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, but Fernandez's heart has always been grounded in the ranchera and mariachi music made famous by father Vicente. This live disc, recorded during a summer 2005 concert in Madrid, illustrates the pull both genres have on the younger Fernandez, with mostly satisfying results. Fernandez does a fine job on such pop hits as "Tantita Pena" and "Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella," but he truly soars on the ranchera classics "El Rey" and "Mexico Lindo y Querido." Spanish singer Amaia duets with Fernandez on his hit "Me Dedique a Perderte," but her limited, strained vocals are all wrong for the bittersweet tune. Fernandez is nicely matched with acclaimed Spanish performer Diego "El Cigala" on "Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella," which deftly combines ranchera and flamenco rhythms. An acoustic studio version of "Para Vivir," originally featured on the album A Corazon Abierto, closes the disc on a lovely note. The accompanying DVD offers the full-effect experience of Fernandez's live appeal and comes with loads of backstage moments, interview footage and gushing tributes from (mostly female) fans. --Joey Guerra

He's amazing!!! He gives a brilliant performance in Spain - the DVD is outstanding and you'll love to listen to the CD over and over. Even my 2 year olds love it!! He sings mostly his old songs with 2 or 3 new ones - and special Spanish guests like Cigala and Malu. As usual - he delivers a great show.

I was shopping in Mexico around Christmas time and saw this DVD concert footage on one of those big screens and was blown away. Wow! Que puedo decir?( What can I say?) Although this is a CD package that includes DVD footage I have to begin with the visuals. Absolutely a stunning performance with top quality musicians and adoring fans for an unforgetable concert to be enjoyed again and again! I've liked AF for a few years now but felt that Luis Miguel had the edge over him in terms of class , vocals and performance persona; after viewing this disc I'm not so sure. Every aspect of this production is top notch, the orchestra is nothing short of magnificient, the guest performers awesome, the video , the lighting, the staging , it is all good. AF does an incredible job with his tribute to Juan Gabriel's compositions in the popurri offering. The totality of the concert is fantastic but there are some standout memorable moments that captivate the imagination. Beginning with the invitaion of Spanish musicians on flamenco guitar and caja(music box drum) on the International hit "Tantita Pena" the love fest goes into full swing. The chemistry between audience and artists is suddenly elevated. The old world meets the new world; a heart felt Spanish flamenco sounding song by a Mexican results in a rousing long lasting applause from the crowd at the end of this super song that will blow you away. The Iberian- Mexican connection is furthered when AF performs the Agustin Lara composition "Granada." With the opening notes from the orchestra the crowd immediately errupts into appreciation and when AF hits some extended notes they further interrupt with applause; it is a thing of sheer beauty and magic.During a break in the song for AF's vocal chords the chorus and musicans carry the song while the crowd rises to their feet in recognition and stay standing until it is over and give another extended applause. It is not just the particular songs that have the Spanish-Mexican connection but it is genuine adoration as is evident in "Que Voy a hacer con mi amor" where the crowd sings the chorus three fourths of the way through the song to blow away AF to the point where he remarks "Wow !" and points and recognizes the crowd. When Diego El Cigala and AF perform "Como quien pierde una estrella" it is nothing short of amazing. The pairing of these two was genius. I'd love to hear more of these two together but for now I'll play this over and over. For me this was the highlight of the night. I wasn't that crazy about the other duets but they were still good overall. The last two numbers on the disc are excellent and in the Mexican tradition. The Jose Alfredo Jimenez composition "El Rey" and the nationalistic "Mexico Querido y Lindo" are fitting and sublime endings to a magical night where the symbiotic relationship between audience, artist and countries was captivated on film. Needless to say the CD is great too with the same songs as the DVD but with the exception of "Granada." The extras on the DVD are pretty nice, considering it is a CD and include behind the scenes preparations, rehearsals which includes commentary by the guest artists. The rehearsal footage with Diego El Cigala is mesmeriizing. I have not looked at all the extras but I found the section on production interesting as well as the section on fans. This CD is definitely one you need if you like AF. When you listen to the CD you will see the concert footage in your mind to further your aural experience. Buy this disc, it is worth the relatively low price and definitely a bargain for what you get. Highly recommended!

Mexicano Supreme!.......2007-01-05

I personally love this album and I don't even speak spanish! I only rated it at 4 stars because it is an acquired taste. The style is called Regaeton (spelling unsure) and it is quite popular in South America and Mexico. Treat your ears to a fresh genre with this CD, though I'm sure not everyone will love it as much as I do.

el imprescindible.......2005-03-18

Este disco esta llamado a ser el responsable de hacer que las nuevas generaciones conozcan quien es Serrat y como dice las cosas. Los arreglos y la musicalización de los temas, exquisitamente escogidos, lo hacen un album completo.
Imprescindible para quienes recién se inicien asi como tambien también para los fanáticos entendidos.

SERRAT EN DIRECTO.......2004-09-22

Este disco, hasta donde conozco, es el unico hasta el momento editado de Serrat en una actuación en directo suya. Si mal no recuerdo, creo que salió en 1984 originalmente, y el tiempo transcurrido para nada ha desactualizado este material. Sigue siendo en la actualidad un disco plenamente disfrutable, con un altisimo nivel de calidad, tanto de en las canciones seleccionadas, como en los arreglos musicales y acompañamiento.
Uno de las curiosidades que se encuentran en esta obra es "Cambalache", tango de Enrique Santos Discépolo, que me hubiera gustado escucharlo grabado por Serrat en una versión de estudio. Su letra, si bien es de tinte pesimista, merece ser escuchada, aun en esta version en la que Serrat quizas inconcientemente modifica ligeramente respecto a la original, aunque nada importante que le quite el sentido, por supuesto.
Por lo demás, qué se puede agregar sobre "Mediterráneo", "Para la Libertad", "De vez en cuando la vida", "Lucía", todas esos verdaderos clásicos en los que la voz de Serrat luce impecable, fresca, plena de sentimiento y sin perder calidad en ningun momento. Particularmente, no conozco el idioma catalán, pero hasta los títulos incluidos en esta obra grabados en esa lengua también son magníficos: "La tieta", "Plany al mar", "Paraules de amor", y los otros. Sus letras son casi plenamente entendibles hasta para quienes no dominamos ni conocemos el catalán.
En suma, un disco diría imprescindible, un clásico.
Una advertencia: aunque yo me haya referido "al disco" en realidad son dos CDs, pero al menos en Argentina, en un comienzo hace muchos años, se comercializaba una edición con la misma portada, que constaba de un solo CD, al que se habian eliminado varios temas para que entre todo en un unico CD. No aconsejo la compra de esa edición en un solo CD, aunque dudo que en la actualidad siga estando a la venta.
Para finalizar, un deseo: algún dia poder disfrutar de una nueva grabación de Serrat en vivo en la que puedan incluirse temas que en el momento que se grabó este CD, no habian sido editados. Creo que eso es posible.

Joan Manuel Serrat is more than just a singer and songwriter from Catalunia, Spain. He's one of the most brilliant voices and composers in the spectrum of the Spanish language. Since his early days, he's been creating some of the most beautiful pieces, touching on political and social matters every bit as much as love and relationships.

With 'Serrat En Directo' (something like 'Serrat Live') you are presented with a comprehensive sample of his best works up to 1984 (when it was originally released). It is a must reference for longtime Serrat followers and newcomers into his music alike, since it provides a peek into a very wide range of his early works and, for the "hardcore" fans, it also offers new arrangements of some of his classic songs, such as "Cantares" (the first Serrat song that I ever heard), "De vez en cuando la vida" and "Cada Loco Con Su Tema", which had come out not too long before this live album.

If you like what you hear here, I highly recommend his most recent albums, 'Cansiones' (with an 's', yes) and 'Sombras de la China' and beyond his own work, Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes.

Un artista en directo.......2001-08-23

Serrat transmite poesía en cada nota y palabra que se desprende en sus canciones. En directo, es capaz de demostrar, todavia hoy, que es un auténtico artista, y que todo lo que graba en estudio puede interpretarse en directo incluso con mayor calidez, feelin', y con la complicidad de un público entregado.

Esta es una grabación de una gira antigua, con alguna laguna en la calidad del sonido, pero con interpretaciones históricas de canciones que para algunos de nosotros, en castellano "i també en català.." son ya himnos.

Imprescindible.

En éste disco se ve reflejado todo lo que es Joan Manuel Serrat. Tiene todo lo que uno pueda querer. Excelentes melodías acompañadas de excelentes músicos y, además, la incomparable voz del catalán, que, una vez más, comprueba que es el mejor de todos....

No me gusto. No hay nada nuevo y los comentarios homofobicos e ignorantes de Alex Lora abundan. Desafortunadamente la banda esta pasando por una fase de una severa falta de creatividad.

Que hay de nuevo en este disco que no haya en los previos discos en vivo de la banda, me pregunto yo?

Que se puede decir de un artista de la talla de Miguel Bose? Si hay palabras para describir su musica y su sencillez, me gustaria saberlas. Directo '90 es un disco que toda persona deberia de tener en su coleccion. Aunque abarca un poco de su amplia carrera que corre desde los 70, Bose ha dejado a muchos con la boca abierta al conquistar a su publico en este disco en vivo. Si no lo has comprado todavia, la verdad es que no se que estas esperando.

At the time of this live recording, Miguel Bosé seemed to be at the peak of his powers, with his creative tour de force, "Bajo el Signo de Caín", just a few months away. The stunning fullness of sound that his band envelops around Miguel's fragile yet outreaching voice is simply too much for words, and the selection of tracks hardly misses the highlights from "XXX", "Salamandra" and "Los Chicos No Lloran" (with an added "Amante Bandido"). As another reviewer said, his Italian influences were right up front during this era, but the 80's and 90's were kind to Bosé. Highlights include the riveting "Senza Di Te", the soulful "Si Te Cuentan Que Caí", and the anthemic "Partisano".

Este disco siempre ha sido mi favorito, lo tuve antes y lo perdi, ahora tengo la oportunidad de comprarlo otra vez y siento exactamente la misma emocion de antes. La musica de Miguel Bose es excelente y su voz, maravillosa. Lo vi en concierto en Ecuador y la verdad que si tuviera la oportunidad lo volveria a ver, es un maestro! Y este disco es lo MAXIMO!

Capsula del tiempo - Time capsule.......2002-08-07

Siempre que he tenido la oportunidad de verle subido en un escenario, ya van tres veces, lo hago con el mayor de los gustos. Aqui, recopila el impulso de su musica hasta 1990, y que quede claro que es solamente un recopilatorio en vivo en Barcelona de sus primeros veinte años de carrera. Aunque es un poco fuerte en el sonido de 'Los chicos no lloran' y su rock fuerte, tambien se le ve cantar canciones clave de su carrera, especialmente su sonido tan particular, e italianesco, de los 80s. Un buen disco en vivo, prendido y lleno de rauxa catalana; y una buena introduccion a un carismatico cantante.

When I have had the opportunity to see him live, and I have seen him three times, I do it with a lot of pleasure. Here he compiles his music up to the 1990, and it must be clear that it is only a live compilation, in Barcelona, of his past 20 years. Eventhough he relies on the songs of 'Los chicos no lloran,' and a bit on the rock side, you are able to see too his particular sounds, especially his Italian sound of the 80s. A good live album, turned up and fille with Catalunian rauxa; a great introduction to a charismatic singer.

La mejor introduccion.......1999-09-16

Con Directo '90 toda una nueva generacion fue introducida a la musica de Bose. Increible, logro conquistar a los quinceaneros de aquellas epocas. Crecimos escuchando Te Amare y las demas. Pero eramos pequenos (6to grado) para envolvernos en los discos de los ochentas. Pero con esta compilacion nos quedamos prendados y seguimos. Nada como ver a Miguel en concierto... Fue increible (93). Ojas Secas se ha vuelto una cancion Cuchillera, para las guitarreadas y reuniones ahora que estamos un poquin mayores. Tantos buenos recuerdos con esta musica. Gracias Miguel

Vale la pena tenerlo.......2007-05-03

Soy admirador de Marta desde hace muchos años, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de ver uno de sus conciertos, aunque con pequeños detalles este me pareció muy bueno, y a grosso modo resume la carrera de Marta, cuya potencia vocal, únicas letras y composiciones no dejan de asombrarme, de verdad que vale la pena tenerlo

Tuve que esperar 12 años para poder ver un concierto de Marta Sanchez ( aunque haya sido en dvd ),y no es broma.vi a marta en un program en Mexico,donde la conductora era Daniela Romo,y Marta canto en vivo los temas del cd "Mi"Mundo"y eso fue en el año 1994.Marta no dio giras de conciertos en Mexico.
Pero valio la pena,este cd/dvd,esta muy bien hecho,laimagen y el sonido son bastante buenos.La voz y su estilo de cantar,son unicos, muy buena voz en vivo ,bastane fuerte y entonada a morir.
Todos los temas son cantados perfectamente ,"Desconocida" es cantada un poco mas lento que su version original,suena mejor en esta version en vivo.""profundo valor" es tan triste,dedicada para su hermana gemela,que ya murio.
Que mas se puede decir de este dvd,Marta canta y baila como una estrella que es.la produccion escenica es buena,cambios de vestuario de lujo,bailarines,todo esta perfecto en este concierto.que pena que no lo haya podido ver en vivo.....
A los que no son fans de Marta o aun peor,los que no saben quien es Marta Sanchez,este cd/dvd,resume toda su carrera como cantante y lo que ella es capaz de hacer vocalmente.

Finally Marta on DVD........2006-04-29

The moment I bought this CD/DVD combo, I thought that I was going to rate it with 5 stars but altought the production of the show is one of the best or maybe the best that I've ever seen by a spanish singer singer. The image is not very good and some hits are missing such as "MOJA MI CORAZON", "DIME LA VERDAD", "AMEN", or "ARENA Y SOL".
Then as special features of the DVD you can only find the video of her latest spanish #1 hit "PROFUNDO VALOR" which its song is very good but the video is really simple, and finally you get to see some photos of her 2005 tour which are very good.
On the other hand Marta's performance on stage is flawless, her voice sounds amazing and the whole show is very good. Including dancers, lots of costume changes and good chorous. Another thing very good about the show is that takes place in the street (I believe in front of the main building of La Coru?a where Marta was born).
The repertory is good but as I wrote before songs are missing but you can find hits as "DESCONOCIDA", "SIGO INTENTANDO", "DESESPERADA (2005 version)", "QUIERO MAS DE TI" and some of her old songs from her Ole, Ole days like "SOLDADOS DEL AMOR" and "CON SOLO UNA MIRADA".
Both DVD and CD include the same songs and to finish I can only say that it could have been better this production but it's still worth the money to buy it.

En el momento que compr? este combo de CD/DVD, pens? que lo iba a calificar con 5 estrellas pero por m?s que la producci?n del show es uno o tal vez el que mejor que haya visto en un artista espa?ol . La imagen no es muy buena y faltan algunos ?xitos tal como "MOJA MI CORAZON", "DIME LA VERDAD", "AMEN" o "ARENA Y SOL".
Como extras en el DVD s?lo se pueden encontrar el video del ?ltimo #1 de Marta en Espa?a "PROFUNDO VALOR" que es bastante simple y finalmente se puede encontrar una galeria de fotos del show que es bastante buena.
Por otro lado la performance de Marta en el escenario es perfecta, su voz suena muy bien y todo el show es muy bueno. Incluye bailarines, varios cambios de ropa y un buen coro. Otra cosa buena del show es que fue grabado en la calle (creo que es delante de la municipalidad de La Coru?a, donde Marta naci?).
El repertorio es bueno pero como dije antes faltan varias canciones pero igual se encuentran ?xitos como "SIGO INTENTANDO", "DESCONOCIDA", "DESESPERADA (Versi?n del 2005", "QUIERO MAS DE TI" y canciones de sus d?as en Ole, Ole como "SOLDADOS DEL AMOR" y "CON SOLO UNA MIRADA".
Tanto el DVD como el CD incluyen las mismas canciones. Para acabar solo puedo decir que esta producci?n ha poder haber sido mejor pero aun asi vale la pena.
