Customer Reviews:
Amazing D-Beat crust attack!.......2006-04-12
Don't pay attention to the people who gave this CD negative reviews. They obviously didn't know what they were getting into when they bought it, and probably wouldn't like any other band in the same genre. DISGUST plays intense, political, anti-war D-Beat crustcore. It's the kind of stuff that will rip your face off. Now, the problem with Disgust is that they put this record out on Earache records, a label known for technical death metal in the 80's and 90's. Disgust do not play this style, but instead, ascribe to the D-Beat crust attack that we all know. Each song has the same formula, the same drum beat, and that, my friends, is what makes D-Beat what it is. The people who gave this record negative reviews didn't understand that, and obviously, have never heard D-Beat crust before.
So now that's out of the way, let's get back to DISGUST. This is my favorite crust band, and maybe my favorite record for a lot of reasons. First of all, it's heavy as hell. The intensity in each song is so rudimentary and out of control that it practically rips your face off. Secondly, the lyrics. Again, they're rudimentary and straight forward, and they compliment the intensity of the music like a shouting protestor in a picket line. Nobody wants to hear music of this simplicity and intensity with some idiot rambling on and using a thesaurus.
I don't know how much this helps, but if you're into Discharge style/Swedish style crusty hardcore and you want something to soothe the inner-beast, Disgust's BRUTALITY OF WAR will do the trick.
Profound? No. Ballcrushing Crust? HELL YES!!! :).......2006-04-04
While everyone is entitled to their opinions and preferences, the other reviews just seem like verbal excercises in sarcasm. I like a lot of different music and metal. This is extremely simple yes, but not every heavy band has to be as hypertechnical as Suffocation or Origin (who I both love).
What Disgust offer is simple blunt old-fashioned CrustPunk. That Motorhead and Discharge inspired hybrid of old school punk and hardcore, with a touch of Grind. Like many of the bands in this genre, the songs are very samey, but for me personally this is what works for this genre. Whining about that fact seems as pointless as complaining about AC/DC and Bolt Thrower not changing their style. If you like it, fine. If not, whatever.
I'm not going to single out tracks, as the songs constitute a combatitive, obnoxious whole. All the songs are speedy in an old punk way, and the distorted puke-encrusted production is entirely fitting. While not the best album of the crust genre, Disgust's "Brutality of War" is damn entertaining. Buy or Die. :)
For fans of bands (which also rule, IMO) such as Motorhead, Discharge, Void, Minor Threat, Napalm Death, latter-day Entombed, Disfear, Skitsystem, Venomous Concept, Nine etc.
Miserable........2005-03-12
Completely and utterly miserable. I bought this because I heard the song "Thrown into Oblivion" by itself and thought it sounded pretty good. Then I saw the CD on here for all of 53 cents and figured I might as well give it a shot. Now I wish I hadn't wasted my money. I put it in my CD player and by the third track I was sick of it. Every song sounds exactly the same as the others. No, I'm not exaggerating. It's as though they went to the Wesley Willis School of Songwriting. And that is an insult to poor Wesley (god rest), who had an excuse. I doubt the members of disgust can claim Chronic Schizophrenia caused them to commit creative atrocity.
So, to summarize, don't buy it. Even though it only costs 53 cents. Don't waste your money. Your 53 cents is better used in one of those crane machines with all the stuffed animals, even though you rarely win.
omfg what crap.......2004-11-24
Earache must have been pretty desperate for new bands to have given these wankers a record deal.
The music is repetitionus and unimaginative the musicianship itself is terrible and the vocals down right boring
Every song is pretty much the same riffs in different order. Sounds like they know about 3 1/5 riffs drums are awfull production horrible
Come to think of it i cant find one single good thing about this album
I will not go so far as to say that this is the worst album i have heard but its not far off
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!
