Customer Reviews:
Church Of Misery - 'Early Works Compilation' (Disk Union) 2-CD.......2007-01-16
Rarely have I seen SUCH an accurate CD title. Nicely assembled 2-CD, 16 track of this Japanese stoner/doom metal band's work. This is only my second listen to the band's repertoire, as my first was their 4-track 'Taste The Pain' EP (see my review). Tunes here I was digging the most were "Spahn Ranch", "War Is Our Destiny", their so-so cover of Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda", the nine-minute full-throttled rocker "Son Of A Gun" and "Chains Of Death". Personnel: Yoshiakki Negishi-vocals, Tomohiro Nishimura-guitar, Tatsu Mikami-bass and Hideki Shimizu-drums. Should appeal to fans of Sheavy, Masters Of Reality, Obsessed and Atomic Bitchwax.
For fans of Electric Wizard, Sleep, Warhorse, and Goatsnake........2005-12-20
If you dig any of the above named bands, then this compilation will satiate your hunger for riff after Sabbath-inspired riff. No other band, I think, so aptly emulates the forefathers of fuzz-oriented doom. (...) You cannot beat that deal; moreover, you cannot afford to miss this album.
Go. Buy. Riff. Now.
TRULY ESSENTIAL.......2005-07-10
a lot of junk gets touted as being "essential", "5 STAR PLUS",etc here on Amazon.this here release i feel actually deserves that designation (obviously for those familiar with C.O.M).
this two-disc set compiles all their earlier E.P.s(most of which are looonnggg out of print)into one nice collection.
the price is ironically a "bargain",as again most of these releases in their original forms are now high dollar collectors items,so here is your chance to snag these great releases in one convenient package!
