Not impressed.......2003-11-25
I was not terribly impressed with this CD. Fortunately, I decided to get it from the library to see if it was good before deciding whether or not to buy it.
Although the orchestration of the songs is well done, most of them simply were not meant to be performed by a chorus; and they sound terrible in that form. If you want some of the songs on this CD, I suggest you look at one of Disney's compilation CDs in the Classic Disney Vol. 1-5 series or the actual soundtracks of the movies.
Inexorable wonder!.......2001-06-23
Where to start?! Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra have had a track record for recording some of the most stupendous movie music ever. Magical Musicals is just another example of how audaciously bold, yet beautiful Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops have taken the original scores, molded them into the same pieces, yet at the same time, creating life of their own in each and every note. If you are looking for ANY soundtrack containing Disney music, this should be the first CD you listen to. There are others out there, and yes, they may sound beautiful and enchanting, but you won't find such a unique and compelling score anywhere else other than this CD. Check it out!!

all filler, but still good.......2006-12-26
I have one of Angel City Outcasts's other ablums, Let It Ride, and I love that one, because every single song is unique. This album, however, is mostly filler. Don't get me wrong, it's all very good filler, and good to listen to, but it's still...filler. There are no songs like "Popeye in Afghanistan" or "Keep On", which was a bit of a let-down for me, coming from the awesome Let It Ride.
Fun, glammy punk n' roll........2006-08-07
We're all tired of punk bands whose names follow "Something City Something," but these guys shouldn't be overlooked. They play excellent punk n' roll with great riffing and catchy songwriting. The chorus parts will bring to mind LA-style hair metal bands - some might write it off as cheesy, but they pull it off well and with fun. They can be considered a punked-out version of Girls Girls Girls-era Motley Crue; in other words, awesome.
Just TRY to sit still and listen to this........2006-07-09
Loved their first album, so, figured this would, like so many bands, be toned down and repetitive; wow, was I wrong. Someone cut Tak's leash and as a result the guitar assault here is jaw-dropping. Their remake of "Outcast Rock and Roll" lacks the rough edges of their earlier version. but, there is a chance to understand the vocals this time on a great song. If you've not heard any of their stuff the sound has some alt-country, cow-punk, southern-blues-rock hints added to the speed of a punk rock base. Oh, just buy it, already!

one of my favorite albums.......2006-12-26
This album is the only one that I have EVER come across where EVERY song got to my 5-stars playlist. The album is short but don't underestimate it! Every single song is unique. There is no filler on this CD. I love it.
Get Ready To Party.......2005-09-01
Review by Tyler Wagnon:
If you like getting in drunken bar fights, Angel City Outcasts is the band for you. Within Let It Ride, there are literally dozens of sing-a-longs perfect for a 4am belligerent drunk.
Angel City Outcasts play a mix of punk rock and rock n roll with snarling, scruffy vocals. Picture a mix of Rancid, Social Distortion, and even Kiss. The energy level on this album is amazing and really makes you want to jump around and possibly kick some ass.
"LA Rock City" is a reworking of the infamous Kiss track "Detroit Rock City" with a few minor changes in the lyrics. Another stand out track is "Popeye in Afghanistan" as it uses the melody from the Popeye theme song and belts out lyrics about kicking Middle Eastern ass.
Let It Ride is probably the most energetic and fun punk n roll release I've heard in years and years. If you want an in your face energetic album, look no further.
Best Band Out Right Now!!!.......2005-07-07
Angel City Outcasts are one of the most important bands out right now. This CD is amazing from start to finish. I hate to compare their sound with other bands because they don't sound like any other band, but if you are a fan of Dropkick Murphys, U.S. Bombs, Rancid, or similar bands, then you'll love Angel City Outcasts!

Freak of Nature "outtakes" released independently.......2004-01-06
Although you may think that Outcasts is Freak of Nature's third album, it is important to note that vocalist Mike Tramp released this compilation CD after his debut solo CD. Outcasts, which would be wise to title "Outtakes", came out when Mike Tramp made an effort to have it released Stateside after his first two FON albums never seeing the light of day. Too bad cause those two albums (s/t and Gathering of Freaks) were the highpoints of his career. Unfortunately they did not get the support they deserved and FON broke up in 1996. Mike released his solo album Capricorn and then this Outcasts CD in 1998. But because the songs on it weren't composed as an album, there is no real sense of unity between them. It was still cool to read Mike's liner notes about the history of FON, which he called "the best band of his life", and the intrepretations of his songs.
Some of the songs on this CD are the rough demo versions recorded with original guitarist Oliver Steffensen, who would later co-write some songs with Mike on his first and third solo albums. Three of these songs would also make it to the debut FON album because they were too strong leave out Mike himself would admit years later. "Possessed" is perhaps one of the heaviest songs Mike ever wrote, especially lyrically. "Are You Ready" features different vocals from Mike compared to the bonus track on the s/t with guitarists Kenny Korade and Dennis Chick (ex-House of Lords). It is cool to have different versions of these tracks as they are among the most metal and powerful songs in Mike Tramp's career.
"Blame it on the Fool" kicks off the CD, which was one of the songs that didn't make it on the first CD. Lyrically it's quite self-explanatory but musically it might have needed some more work. "Where You Belong" and "Wartime" are both heavy songs where Mike Tramp explores with new lyrical ideas. Mike definitely wrote his best and most cerebral lyrics in his short-lived band FON. The second album Gathering of Freaks, in my opinion, features his best vocal performance plus most thought provoking lyric work to date, and is still by far my favourite Mike Tramp related album along with White Lion's Pride. "Dead and Gone" is one of the better songs on the album and I think it's a shame it didn't make it on the studio albums. It would have been a great fit. The unplugged versions of "What Am I" and especially "Turn the Other Way", while good in their own right, make you want to hear the studio versions on the debut CD. I think "Turn the Other Way" is an excellent song and a great album opener. Very fast and energetic compared to everything else Tramp has written before and after FON.
The two semi-ballads "I Regret" and "Can't Find My Way" are both killer works. I can't believe they were left out and I am thankful to Mike for making the effort to get them released in one form or another. Because they're too good to be left gathering dust in some vault. Tramp wrote "I Regret" about his (then) new-born son and explains he understood his dad's feelings with a son of his own. Also it's a pity FON never did this song live. Tramp would finally cover it years later as a solo artist. "Can't Find My Way" is, as Tramp puts it, "the song he enjoyed singing the most" but again it's a shame it didn't make it on the albums. This song is a true METAL song from structure to attitude to the lyrics to the music to the vocals. It is also one of the best, most emotional, and most devastasting songs of Mike ever. Lyrically it destroys me. The part where he goes "I've tried before to unlock the door..." gives me chills every time! The song slowly builds up and gains tempo and heaviness as it reaches a height where you might want to freeze forever. It's a song Mike wrote about his brother. The guitar work towards the end to this day boggles my mind. Why didn't Korade and Chick play stuff like this on the studio albums? Easily my favourite song on this CD.
Songs like "If" and "Disturbing the Peace" keep you going, especially the latter with its never-ending riffing and clocking it at over 12 minutes! It was just Oliver and his drum machine but you can feel that him and Mike were really into whatever they were doing. It's a shame this band didn't last cause there was something magical about them and they had all the potential there was to have. The reason I am rating it 4 stars is the lack of unity and somewhat raw production even though it serves the purpose of the CD quite well at times. I highly recommend you to check out the two FON albums. They are both tragically underrated and might surprise you a lot if you've never heard Mike's "darker" and "metal" sides before.

One of my Top Five Favourite Punk Bands EVER.......2004-06-24
Take it from an ex skinhead, some of the best punk rock ever to come out of belfast. you have to get passed the raw, under-produced rock that these lads are playing. hysterical lyrics as well. definately less hard rock than defects but in some ways less pretty than SLF. just out and out punk.
good clasic stuff.......2000-10-16
the Outcasts are from the early 80's. they sound like early D.I and have a upbeat tempo. they have a few songs that have that Clash feeling to them. they are great, check them out!
