Interstellar travel in your headphones........2007-05-31
Well, Stargate SG.1 has finally ended after 10 seasons, and this soundtrack CD covers only the first two. I think there's room for a new CD or two, and hopefully the Stargate SG.1 people will get around to creating one.
Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.
Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.
Stargate Music Album.......2007-05-12
Great CD throughout. It's a shame the show is being cancelled after 10 years but this music helps to keep the memory on.
Not as good as the 1st Music release.......2004-10-24
The best of Stargate SG-1 is infact a 9 track compilation of the 1st 2 seasons of the TV show. It's really not the best of Stargate. I rather enjoyed the 1st release namely called Music of Stargate SG-1 and the actual movie music-score. However I still enjoyed the music from several episodes of the 2nd season, most notable being the music suite of Hathor.
A fan of the TV show should be pleasantly surprised by the suites in this CD. It won't disapoint.
one for the fans.......2004-05-07
This CD is really one for the fans. If you've not watched Stargate SG-1 before, then it will be very limited in its' appeal.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.
Sweet.......2004-02-23
This is a great CD. Just listing to it makes me feel like I'm watching the show.

All Through The Night.......2006-08-23
This CD is great. I work at a preschool and this is the music we play during nap time. It's beautiful, and it gets the kids to sleep! :-)
even if your kids outgrow this, you won't.......2004-10-06
I bought this on cassette tape when my first child was born. We have since gone through two tapes and I am now buying two CDs--one to give to my oldest, who is now seven, and one for my youngest, who is three. Aside from being wonderfully melodic, this collection imprints on your child's mind timeless phrases like "My love is like a red, red rose..." and--who knows? Maybe someday they'll look up who wrote it. Even for older kids, it is a welcome relief from "Jenny from the Block" etc.
No one tires of this CD.......2003-01-04
I am purchasing my second copy of this CD because it is loved so much in our house. I orginally borrowed it from the library when my daughter was a newborn and then bought my own copy. She is now six and the CD has finally worn out. It is played EVERY night in our house and I have bought it a baby gift many times since I discovered it.
The Best !!.......2001-04-03
I have been in love with this recording since it first came out. It soothed me AND it put the baby to sleep. What more can you ask from a lullaby CD? Her voice is wonderful and so are the songs. I put this album on when I need to slow down a bit.
My kids are grown and I still listen to it...........2000-07-24
I LOVE this cd. I checked it out from the library when my 5 year old was still a baby. It was such a hit I quickly made a copy. I would pop it on in the car and he would become quiet and still. When I had my daughter, three years later, I put the tape on at night before they would go to bed to unwind them. I have NEVER had a problem getting my kids to sleep and I thank this tape... Both of my children have out-grown lullabies but I am still very attached to it...The tape wore out so I am now buying the cd....

Michael Thomas Berkley's conceptually ambitious debut album (subtitled A History of the Planet Through Music) is also the inaugural release for his Numinous Records label. The 26-year-old Berkley (piano, synthesizers, percussion) and his unknown but skilled gathering (additional percussion, electric and acoustic violins, electric guitar, North Indian flute, occasional voices) concoct haunting, faintly beautiful soundscapes that evoke mental images of things primordial, Paleozoic, even heavenly. If you are familiar with the work of European keyboardist Richard Pinhas or long-lost progressive keyboardist Michael Garrison, or like the idea of infusing Tangerine Dream with a world-beat mentality, Images from Earth and its shifting, enigmatic sound clusters might catch your fancy. Of special interest: the glittering pulsations of "Wave on Wave," Berkley's interpretation of mammalian expansion in post-Jurassic periods. Abstract, but not alienating; worthy of your headphones. --Terry Wood

Wonderful, Superb!.......1999-03-06
I think "Images from Earth" is a very well composed work, bearing a fullness of both artistic and creative expression with a thematic experience that is bold and present throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed the CD and highly recommend it.
One of the most vividly evocative albums of recent memory!.......1999-01-12
Rating: ***** (out of 5)
The first full-length album from composer and producer Michael Thomas Berkley is a unique -- and uniquely effective -- concept. "Images from Earth" is a musical interpretation of the history of the planet. That's right, 4.6 billion years of geology and evolution packed onto a single CD. As overly ambitious as that might sound, the result is a modern classic of ambient and world music. Berkley's original training is in European classical music, and that sensibility is reflected in the meticulousness of the composition -- but his ethnomusicology field studies in remote parts of Africa seem to be the more dominant influence, along with threads of rhythm and melody from the Middle East, Asia, and the realms of imagination. The cuts on this recording center around electronic-based instruments layered in with acoustic piano, violin, voice, North Indian flute, and an incredible diversity of percussion. The tunes themselves range from purely atmospheric to heavily rhythmic, all serving to evoke a sense of awe at the vastness of Terran history. "Images from Earth" ranks as one of the most vividly evocative albums of recent memory -- highly recommended. -Philip Farber, Daily Freeman July, 1998

Ambitious, but successful! Good stuff!.......1998-05-13
While at first I was skeptical about the ambitious concept of the album (setting the evolution of earth to music), after hearing the album all the way through I have to admit that Berkley does a superb job of encapsulating all 4.6 billion years of earth history in a single, hour long CD. This is not to mention that the actual music is very powerful and moving.
