Another great Demon release.......2007-06-12
By the time Taking the World by Storm was released in 1989, Demon had fully made the transition from pioneering New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) band to straightforward arena/pomp rock. That's not to suggest that this is some wimpy AOR album (not that there's anything wrong with that). Taking the World by Storm is more of a harder rocking version of what Magnum and Uriah Heep were releasing at the time. The songs are catchy and melodic, but they also rock quite a bit. After the AC/DC-esque opening track Commercial Dynamite, the songs on Taking the World by Storm have an epic, almost progressive quality, especially the lengthy tracks like Remembrance Day and Time Has Come.
As always, vocalist Dave Hill's songwriting proves to be the band's greatest strength. The songs on Taking the World by Storm are all quite well written, both musically and lyrically. It's a very solid album not only in terms of 80's rock, but in general. Listening to it in 2007, it doesn't seem all that dated, which can't be said for a lot of that era's albums.
Unfortunately, Taking the World by Storm did anything but. The album remains unappreciated, even among Demon's fans. It's a shame, because if you let go of preconceived notions and expectations, I think you'll find this album to be a more than worthy addition to the Demon catalog.
NOTE: Taking the World by Storm was reissued in 2002. The updated version features a much needed digital remastering and one bonus track - a demo version of Trick of the Light.

Uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh.......No.......2005-02-28
OK, I love bands such as Muse, Starsailor, Radiohead, Travis, and Frou Frou. That being said, I came across this album because someone recommended it instead of a Travis album. This band is terrible. The guy's voice is like a mix of Billy Corgan, and the Counting Crows guy. Almost like a male Ani Difranco, I can't stand her either, but to say the least... Uhhhhh...No
The Saviors Of Modern Rock.......2004-07-13
How is it that an album of such awe-inspiring magnitude arises from "Out Of The Darkness?" It is hard to say exactly what forces have to converge. Whatever the case, thank your lucky stars they did.
vee device is utterly magnificent. Seldom is it that an album showcases both musical and lyrical genius. But such is the case with this gem. I first heard a cut from these guys on a local NPR station. Their sound just blew me away -- then when I got the album a few weeks back, I was even more astounded. They refused to be pigeonholed -- their sound is diverse and all-encompassing.
These are the heirs to American music. I don't think it'll be long until they're household names. vee device gets my highest recommendation. Do yourself a favor and buy this album today!
THIS ALBUM WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-19
Okay, friends. I don't know how you may have stumbled across this album on such a vast website filled with thousands upon thousands of offerings from countless artists. But that is not the point. The point is: You've come to the right place. After you purchase this album (and you will), you might as well never buy another CD as long as you live. Why such bold statements? If you've ever had heartache, ever felt lonely, exhilarated, contemplative, peaceful; if you've ever felt the joys and sorrows of existing as a human being on this groaning planet, you will find your heart touched by the myriad facets of expression contained herein. All scopes of human consciousness, countless styles of musical expression, from bluegrass sounds, to almost straight-up rock sounds, to classical sounds, to rhythm & blues, to the cacophonic, you will find the members of Vee Device well on their way to becoming masters of musical interpretation of life. Especially considering that these guys seemed to have come out of the woodwork. Does anybody know anything about 'em? I want to know more. But I digress. The point is, again, this album will satisfy whatever musical hankering you have, and a good portion of it will get you boogeyin' too. Buy it NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Album Description
Critically lauded and widely circulated, Autobiography Of A Dying Band is a chronicle of unparalleled passion, capturing the art of vee device at its very essence. Hailed as 'the greatest underground-band in America,' long have they been the emblems of the counter-corporate movement. So firmly entrenched in the stanchions of indie lore is their story, that few are left who have not heard the tale of these disparate wayfarers turned international sensation. Now, for the first time, the inspiring and remarkable story of these self-made me can be enjoyed by all. A gargantuan undertaking, Autobiography Of A Dying Band is the authoritative work on the vee Revolution.

It's worth dipping into the lyrics on this one. Really excellent stuff, not to mention the instrumentation. Very inventive songs coming out of the middle of the country.
