What first strikes me about this album is that edguy is trying waaay too hard to be a classic metal band. Honestly it's out of control here and i find it almost unlistenable. Not because its bad, but because its incredibly generic and other bands do it much better. This album is a wannabe operation mindcrime except much less enjoyable. The lead singer (i'm not going to waste my time seeing who it is) tries ridiculously hard to be dickinson or tate. I feel like i've wasted money hearing something that sounds like everything on the classic rock station my mom listens to. In contrast to such gleaming reviews, nothing special here folks. Look elsewhere for your metal.

This album is excellent. If you like power metal in the veins of Gamma Ray, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, etc. then these guys are for you. I stumbled across them while surfing around the 'net and I'm thinking to myself what did I miss all these years! This is true metal. Great lyrics, screaming guitars & rifs and enough double bass drum to tear down the walls. Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD.

This disc hellfire club is edguy's first album for nuclear blast and i feel while not their best easily in my top favortie 10 metal albums of all time! While the 10 min epic the piper never dies is not so good the album is on the whole great so i would recommed to any power metal fan or any real metal person !

"Welcome to the freak show!" Those words jump out at you as you put in the cd in the player. From that point on, Edguy takes you on one hell of a ride, the question is, can you hold on? With a combination power metal, 80's hair metal, just plain old good music, this band is guaranteed to make a fan out of even the most picky of metal heads. My perssonal favorites on this album are: "Mysteria", "The Piper Never Dies", and "We Don't Need A Hero". All in all, this band makes great, powerful songs and you will not be dissapointed, one of the best I've heard in awhile.

IMO, Edguy were one of the better German power metal bands during the 1990s. After an inconspicuous beginning, they released 2 stellar albums (Vain Glory Opera & Theater of Salvation) that were truly worthy of carrying on the legacy established by their countrymen Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stormwitch, Runing Wild, etc. At the dawn of the century, EDGUY were setting the standard for traditional Euro power metal. Since then, however, they've written themselves into a rut with two decent, but not great, albums, Mandrake & Hellfire Club. Neither album is bad, but they both lack that extra edge that made VGO and ToS so incredible. The beautiful, furious riffing is now replaced with heavier, less meorable chops. The perfect synth touches are replaced by a more 'rock out' vibe. The song lengths creep up, yet their catchiness/momorability creeps down. And HC just seems too much like "Mandrake 2' for it to be considered anything really special (though if you're in love with Mandrake, you should dig this one as well). EDGUY seem to have fallen into a 'play it safe' mode; thus, the albums aren't bad, but they won't create anything special for now either (NOCTURNAL RITES has had the same problem w/ the two albums following 'Afterife').

I just noticed the date this CD was released (1993), I can't believe it was that long ago. Anyhow this was the best release from Electric Hellfire Club, led by frontman Thomas formerly of My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult.

EHC play on the we love satan thing and as both a music fan and a Industrial DJ there really are only two songs worthwhile. "Invocation" and "Mr 44" are the two best songs on the CD and are worth checking out, just don't expect too much from the rest of the CD.

As a DJ I would say pick up the CD if you have the spare cash as both songs mentioned are good for play every now and then.

Burn Baby Burn alone is worth the price of this CD. Liar, Liar, your Church is on fire! This is something your kids can sing along with. Funny, funny stuff. Good Dance music. well. If you've heard this band you'll understand the surfy, dancing, satanic funk that EHC seem to bang into your skull. Whenever I hear this album I can't get it out of my head. That's a good thing by the way. Every home should have a little bit of this.

"Burn Baby Burn" is the debut album from this self professed Satanic "electro-glam" band and to date it's their best effort yet. Where subsequent releases have been nothing less than excellent, "Burn Baby Burn" just has that special "something" that keeps me coming back.
"B3" is steeped in themes of psychedelia, sadomasochism, and Satanic doctrine to name a few. Heavy synth, danceable beats, and eighties metal style solo guitar alongside Rev. Thorne's razor edged vocals give the EHC a sound the likes of which I've never before heard. All this is delivered in their trademark brand of black humor. The music at times seems almost to belie the nature of the songs. This paradox defines the very heart of the Church of Satan and in this respect Thorne and company make the most logical choice for the Church's musical mouthpiece.
So what you have here is a masterful collection of delightfully evil tunes with enough of an infernal edge to keep them from becoming too kitschy. "Burn Baby Burn" is definitely their strongest outing but don't write them off completely. I would suggest listening to their albums in order, as listening to them out of chronological order sort of dilutes their musical progression and may even turn some people off.

Age of Fire is easily the best Satanic song I've ever heard. Also check out The Thrill Kill Kult-- both these groups write pretty dark music-- you sure ain't gonna hear this on the radio or MTV. HAHAHAHAHAH!

...or the "kiss of shame", was, in medieval times, the act by which the devotee of the Devil would kiss the hind quarters of said Devil (in guise of a black goat) thereby sealing their allegiance to Satan and His evil. The Electric Hellfire Club are a (sometimes)no-nonsense, up-front, unapologetic Satanic band who shirk not their affiliation with Dr. Anton LaVey's notorious Church of Satan; Front demon/Lead vocalist/founder/chief sorceror/song-writer/programmer Thomas Thorn is an ordained "Reverend" in the Diabolical Diocese known as the Church of $atan. His henchmen include such mainstays as Six-string sorceror Herr Ricktor Ravensbruck and Goddess of Thunder Sabrina Satana on bass guitar and backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, forming the nucleus of the band which sounds the apocalyptic air-raid sirens for the new Satanic Age. I've chosen Kiss the Goat as the quintessential EHC work to date because it represents the most prolific page in Hellfire History due in part to songs dedicated to Kali (the Indian Goddess of Sex and Death in)in "In The Temple of Flesh", "Hellfire!", Evil Genius (Queen of Sin) in which Sabrina spins her Satanic web, and then there's the glorious "Pray to Satan" chant that leads off the title cut, "Kiss the Goat" to close the cd, or so you think...if you have the new re-issue you get a bonus track after the player tracks thru a few blank tracks...I'll leave it a surprise! The new re-issue features "cleaned up artwork, as the old original version had a very darkened cover art with purple foil logo/letters, whereas the reissue brightened up the artwork so the cool detail can be discerned, and they dispensed with the shiney foil letters in favor of simply a purple matte print. This is, in my opinion, the quintessential EHC disc and the one any fan of the band from Hell should not be without!
Forget....no....DELETE the imposters. The Electric Hellfire Club are the real deal America! Hail the Dawning of the Age of Fire!!! Hail Hellfire!!!

It's been ten years now since the first release of The Electric Hellfire Club's magnum opus Kiss the Goat. It was a mature yet humorous, harsh yet beautiful, and the last contribution of the electric genious Dr. Luv. It starts off with the brilliantly heavy "HELLFIRE!", pointing to the new direction the EHC was taking with the album: Darker, louder, more Sturm und Drang. The album really takes off with "In the Temple of Flesh", though. Clever Indian sampling, psychoactive guitars, and a great length. Amazing that such energry could last more than three minutes...
A stamina proved again on "Slaughter of Elysium". This song defies traditional song structure, and really stomps along. A fun track. Then comes "Incubus", one of may favorite songs of all time. Here the electronics overpower the guitar oriented work that dominated the start of the album.
After lots of anger previously unstressed with the Electric Hellfire Club, we calm down for "Evil Genious (Queen of Sin)" Some of the best lyrical work on the album, and the most beuatiful song ever to appear via EHC. This song alone is worth the price of admission.
"Love is the Law" is full of unexpressed rage. The whole song is like one big build from the soft electronic ear-candy of "Queen of Sin", with insidious background loops. Then the song gives way to the incredibly dark "Jack the Knife", the darkest song of the album. The vocals are distorted into a wrathful fuzz, with many disturbing musical layers behind them.
Then spiraling down we go with "Bitchcraft", a soft song with Sabrina Satana singing. Short, and reminiscent of film-noir.
"Night of the Buck Knives" is the second serial killer song on Kiss the Goat, reinforcing that this release is not Burn Baby Burn at all. Yet the synth denies the lyrics, perhaps trying to emphasise the LSD used in the Manson murders.
After well more than what one would expect from an album, come the supposed final track, "Kiss the Goat". It is like a ritual, a closing hymn after all that came before.
The album would end, but this is the re-release! You get a remix of hellfire, and a Kiss the Goat-itized Burn Baby Burn song.

If that wasn't enough, wait a few minutes after the end of the last song and you get a Charles in Charge theme song cover. Despite the darkness in Kiss the Goat, these guys still have a sense of humor.

Bravo to EHC for a grand re-release that was badly needed.

Calling Dr. Luv is easily one of the best albums by El,ectric Hellfire Club. I like it a lot because it's varied. There is pop-metal, glam and industrial. Electric Hellfire Club are easily one of the best industrial-metal bands right now. Very Groovey Boots steps back from overt Satanism but is still goth. Book of Lies is a signature Hellfire song w/ personal topics such as Shane's Death. Calling Dr. Love is a reverant tribute to Shane Lassen. Hellflower and Prince of Darkness are funny and catchy. He Who Holds the Lightning Rod is a hymn to Thor, God of Thunder. Servants of Evil is a techno anthem with funny lyrics referance The Partridge Family. This disc rules.

Electric Hellfire Club is a very talented band but its hard to believe that they are really Satanists or if it is all a show.Ive seen them live and they perform with great dramatics/theatrics unlike other "Satanic death metal"bands.But Im not sure whether it is a mock or a sell out on Satanism. On this CD there are groovy dance tracks with great electro beats that a non-Satanist could enjoy. It is not as dark as their debut "Burn Baby Burn" but it is still enjoyable. I dont label them on their religious beliefs but on their talented, fun, erotic, groovy music. Hardcore Satanists may embrace the fact that they could be in a sense "Satanist missionaries" or they may be appaulled by the fact that a band is exploiting their beliefs in a non-serious way that seems mocking. All in all, "Calling Doctor Luv" is a great album whether you are Satanist or not.

This is a recording of much wit, wisdom and fun. Like all great music these tunes make one want to dance and inspire joy. Thomas Thorn's lyrics are still topnotch and have reached a timeless quality with songs like "Very Groovy Boots" and "Hellflower". This is mind and body music, made for the now. It plays well all the way through providing me with both entertainment and stimulation. All in all a very kosher album good for getting rid of hubris and shaking your ass.

I am a fan of Electric Hellfire Club and got their albums Burn Baby Burn and Kiss The Goat and the album in memory of Shane , Calling Doctor Luv and Unholy Rollers. But I havent heard this album before this is just a comment in defense of my race and definition of race. He/She commented that the song Killing An Arab was probably EHCs frustratiion for Circle K and 7-11 vendors and Middle Eastern Oil companies. I am an Arab female and yes I listen to and like the EHC and never heard this song, but dude , the vendors of 7-11 or Circle K are primarily Indian and / or Pakistani and not even Arab, so dude if they are or thinking they have aggression towards Arabs they are confused. Im just makin it clear that over 90% of the gas stations are owned and operated by Pakistanis or Indians and other people, but not Arabs. I know people gonna be thinkin im trippin or gettin worked up over something small but it big to me , cuz Arabs are not offiliated racially , culturally, linguistically to Indians and/or Pakistanis. Also, I saw EHC live when I was like 18 back in 1998 in Milwaukee at The Rave. I had the privelege of being in the front row area and was about 3-4 feet away from Thomas Thorn singin. I remember, he had devil horns on and his head was no longer bald, but had a mop of blond-browsn tangled hair and was dressed in all leather and had goatee beard. During his Mr 44 song he held up a christian bible and tore it up and lit in on a fire. Im not sure what he did i think it was put in a pit or sumthin, and he threw remenents of it to the crowd and I was lucky enough to have caught like 3 parts of the torn burnt bible. He mesmerized the crowd, including myself with his presence and power and you could tell he was a poser or phony when it came to his Satanic beliefs. After the show I wanted meet him up close and talk to him or sumthin cuz I admired him. So he sat down and i got a few autographs on the torn papers of the bible he threw and also shook his hand. I forget what other keepsakes I got from the show . but I enjoyed seein him live after bein a fan for a long time.

There's no reason why you cannot celebrate Halloween all year 'round, as many of us already aesthetically do --- the very cover depicts what one would expect to see on a Halloween effects album, which initially drew Me to it in particular in the first place, as I'm always looking for Hallows tunes - jaunty, eerie, silly, or serious.

A smiling Jack-o-Lantern adorns the cover, placed on the customized EHC Baphomet. Inside, elucidating liner notes, a veritable essay & evolutionary prognostication by Reverend Thomas Thorn, as to the future development of the band.

Here, some of the all-time classics of infamy are covered in a playfully diabolical way, from horror movies to devilish Heavy Metal & Gothic bands demonized by xoids, which ignited much of the furor in the highly satanophobic 80's.

Disc One

1. Sympathy For The Devil

The Rolling Stones classic, said to be the first Rock'N'Roll song to fully anknowledge The Prince of Darkness as Lucifer, "Minister of Music" --- the song to which a veritable sacrifice, a blood ritual baptism occurred in Altamont, CA, where Hell's Angels took their prey.

2. Killing The Arab

As it was related to this writer, a Cure cover which may vent against Circle-K or 7-11 vendors, or Middle-Eastern oil embargos; whether or not it is a misconception, generally referring to all people of Middle-Eastern descent as "arabs", which they are obviously not. Keep in mind that this is a cover song, so the lyrical content may not be necessarily shared by EHC, but may have in fact been posted by one Robert Smith.

3. Highway To Hell

AC/DC classic which celebrates the indulgent & passionate ride to the swirling Abyss, & was also a favorite of The Nightstalker Richard Ramirez, & Myself. Do the bells toll for thee?
4. Shout At The Devil

A headbanging good time is promised with this one, with a delighful twist; a cavalcade of sounds. The original recording is also part of My collection.

5. Devil Inside

Underrated song by INXS, which reminds that the Devil is indeed "within every single one of us..." --- the Lust of Life, lest humanimality forget......

Michael Hutchins, singer for INXS, killed himself in an auto-erotic attempt to an incredible neo-necrogasm. For this, I can see the image of Hutchins crucified, with the name of the band written above the cross, in place of "INRI".

Disc 2

1. Halloween Medley {first time on CD} / 2. Halloween Theme

A familiar variation written by John Carpenter for his landmark movie by the same name. Before this release, this Halloween medley became a Samhein regular at shows. Just as eerie, with a drumbeat added.

3. Incubus

From 'Kiss The Goat' {this Author's favorite EHC release}, which I came into possession under a red night sky, 'Incubus' is the lingam kundalini unleashed upon the ethers by the Passions of Pan & Priapus.
4. Bela Lugosi's Dead

A Bauhaus cover - gives recognition to one of the progenitors of Gothic Rock, & a tribute to the silver screen's most infamous horror actor who played the most infamous horror character, Dracula. Lugosi so personafied the portrayal, he was even buried in his cape-- now that's dedication!

Despite the flack this song has received as being identified with "gothabe's" {goth-wanna'be poseurs who are 'bad bunnies' looking for cheap thrills by merely dressing in black, thus diluting the underground scene}, EHC adds a nice touch with this version.

5. Black No. 1

The cover song of another one of this Author's favorite bands, Type 0 Negative {especially "Bloody Kisses", "October Rust", & "Slow, Deep & Hard"}; I really enjoyed this version.
6. Incubus reprise

Another version of that great 'Kiss The Goat' song.

I enjoyed the way the songs blended & bled together, giving the senses delightful surprises, as one gently overlaps the other like satano-sonic waves.

The one song that I enjoyed most on this double-CD set was undoubtably #6/Disc 1: "The Bishop's Folly", which is an EHC original. And if this is any indication of what is to come {which in fact, it is}, then there surely is a lot to expect.

Hardcore EHC fans will want this in their collections, but for the novice & unfamiliar to the band, you may wish to first purchase "Kiss The Goat", "Satan's Little Helpers", "Calling Dr. Luv", & "Holy Roller."

To become acquainted with Reverend Thorn's musical evilution, seek out "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult", which incidently, inspired & influenced one Rev. Marilyn Manson.

In My opinion, The best way to experience EHC is through headphones, as it is filled with such a plethora of sounds that should not be missed.

This is a great CD, but the lesser work of the band. Many covers of songs about the devil. I liked the title song the most. The early CDs are the best. I like the Industral stuff more than their rock songs. Wyatt Kaldeneberg.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent rock soundtrack for a Halloween night........2001-07-26

I am lucky enough to own most of this material on their "Trick or Treat" 7" but if you aren't one of the 1000 to have either this or the subsequent "promotional" CD version, then "Empathy" is just what you've been waiting for.

The material on disc one is comprised mostly of covers culled from various tribute albums put out by Cleopatra records over the years. If you're strictly an EHC fan and aren't fond of the gothic/darkwave genre then here you go, all EHC covers put onto one convenient little disc. It also contains a little sample of their latest release and the previously unreleased cover of INXS's "Devil Inside".

The second disc is a Halloween medley containing the previously hard to find "Trick or Treat" stuff. Their cover of the theme from "Halloween" is spot-on and blends seemlessly into the rest of the songs on this disc. I would have preferred that this disc be divided into individual tracks and not just one big medley, however. Their cover of Type O Negative's "Black No.1" is one of my favorite songs here and I can't skip ahead to it without holding down the fast forward button on my CD player. Also, this disc comes minus the Leaether Strip remix of "Incubus" which was on the original vinyl release.

All in all "Empathy for the Devil" is a great collection of songs predominately for EHC's fans and it's a great display of the sense of humor and fun that this band possesses.

This album is TEHC's first full album plunging purely into metal. Very hard and grinding, this album falls more into the traditional black metal genre as opposed to the Industrial that TEHC has been previously known for. While many songs are skillfully crafted such as Bishop's Folly, it seems as if TEHC had an ax to grind with being called Industrial. (And as noted by things I've read.) However, as a metal album in itself, is very solid.

I personally don't believe this album matches up to what TEHC could have produced, and I think Electronomicon comes out the stronger of the two of TEHC's more metal albums. I believe they learned from Witness the Millenium. Even so, a very good black metal album.

This is the worst EHC release! The recording is grainy and unbalanced. Gone, is the ironic lyrics and the sense of humor that make EHC stand out from the rest of the "Evil" bands. Save your money or buy Burn Baby Burn!

3 out of 5 stars No more Mr. Nice Satanist........2001-07-25

"Witness.." was a far cry from what I was expecting of EHC's latest release. That said, it was still pretty good but suffers from poor production due to the shoddy conditions of Venom's personal recording studio. Even Rev. Thorne complained of the archaic equipment which, as I understand it, is one of many mounting problems which has led to the current rift between EHC and Venom. What that means to the listener is that it is hard to find an acceptable listening balance on this CD. I usually turn the treble down a little so that the bass is just slightly higher. This will cut down a little bit on the tinny quality.

On the upside, it is a more raw direction which may please those with a predilection more towards the oldschool days of black metal. It is however completely lacking any sense of irony that most fans of the EHC have come to expect from them. This is the most serious I've ever know them to be, even more so than the darkly malevolent "Kiss the Goat" release.

On the whole, "Witness the Millenium" is not a bad effort, especially for a CD whose slated release was postponed almost a full year. To fully appreciate where they're going with this new sound my advice would be to start at the beginning with "Burn,Baby,Burn" and work your way up.

I've not been a fan of EHC for long, but I like this one the best. It's very modern, cutting edge, that not too many are doing. Agree with them or not, it is utterly fascinating from the masters of Satanic rock. It's a bit cartoonish at times, and even funny. My favorite is One Dark Horse. Deny Christ lunatic and liar- that's awesome.

This album shows that the EHC is still hard at work trying to think of new ways to get their message across, I keep seeing review after review of people saying "why dont they go back to their old sound?" I will tell you why: the EHC were and are an experimental band, they have always deviated from the musical norm to express their feelings and beliefs,back in the '93 when Burn,Baby,Burn! came out there werent many bands making music like that, today they are a dime a dozen, we move to Kiss the Goat, again a dime a dozen these days, Calling Dr.Luv was the first step in showing that they had grown bored with the "industrial" genre and were beginning to explore different avenues of music. With Witness the Millenium they have come full circle to B.B.B in that they are once again doing what not many people are doing these days, making dark metal with a hint of the electro-industrial roots they started from. Best track: One Dark Horse.

I love The Electric Hellfire Club! I own all of thier albums, and 'Kiss The Goat' is my personal favourite. The music is best described as Satanic Industrial or Gothadelic. All of the songs are explicit, dirty, seductive and playfully wicked. As far as this style of music is conscerned...this is about as satanic as it gets. Thomas Thorn (singer/creator) is an active "member" in The Church Of Satan, and was a pal of the infamous founder of The Church Of Satan, Anton Lavey. Every song on this album is evil-fun for the devilishly inclined listner.

...or the "kiss of shame", was, in medieval times, the act by which the devotee of the Devil would kiss the hind quarters of said Devil (in guise of a black goat) thereby sealing their allegiance to Satan and His evil. The Electric Hellfire Club are a (sometimes)no-nonsense, up-front, unapologetic Satanic band who shirk not their affiliation with Dr. Anton LaVey's notorious Church of Satan; Front demon/Lead vocalist/founder/chief sorceror/song-writer/programmer Thomas Thorn is an ordained "Reverend" in the Diabolical Diocese known as the Church of $atan. His henchmen include such mainstays as Six-string sorceror Herr Ricktor Ravensbruck and Goddess of Thunder Sabrina Satana on bass guitar and backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, forming the nucleus of the band which sounds the apocalyptic air-raid sirens for the new Satanic Age. I've chosen Kiss the Goat as the quintessential EHC work to date because it represents the most prolific page in Hellfire History due in part to songs dedicated to Kali (the Indian Goddess of Sex and Death!!), (...)

Techno-Goth from Hell! These synthesized minstrels certainly possess the Command to Look, & the artwork is impressive as well. The cover shows two loving & lustful Satanic Witches planting wet-ones on the Black Satanic Goat, with Baphomet on His forehead. Within, a scene of nocturnal Sabbatic debauchery.

There are thirteen songs in KISS THE GOAT, which makes for about an hour of evil entertainment. Is this the sound of the Sabbath of the future? Every tune has a complimentary picture with it, which makes it a feast for the eyes.

There are male {Thomas Thorn} & female {Sabrina Satana} voices herein, which is always a delightful combination, the different pitches compliment eachother nicely.

There's a gret little song called "Bitchcraft" about a Satanic Witch using her "hex-appeal" to obtain her desires, a-la THE SATANIC WITCH by Dr. LaVey. All the while bringing "sacrifices" to her main-man, Satanas. What a woman!

Also enjoyable, was the title song, & its repetetive chanting of "Pray To Satan". Very useful to play in the deep, dark night. "Creepy Crawler" is courtesy of The Partridge Family Temple. The Electric Hellfire Club spans the globe of grim subject matter, & sound effects.

KISS THE GOAT is dedicated to Dr. LaVey's son, Satan Xerxes Carnacki LaVey, born on Halloween of XXVIII A.S. Special thanks are given to Magister Peter Gilmore & Magistra Peggy Nadramia of COS, publishers of The Black Flame, which tells you something about The Club's solid affiliations.

The Electric Hellfire Club lead the way in their respective music genre, & I expect to see many other bands following suit.

No describtion could be more accurate for this album then what the name of the band is. The Electric Hellfire Club invite you to yet another session of satan worshiping, virgin sacrifices and loathing of christianity, and they do it with style, class, qualitiy and good dose of humor as well. The band embarks on their most ambitious album so far taking industrial music to psychedelic and gothic extremes with almost majestic mix of all instruments and Rev. Thorn's brilliant (distorted) vocals coupled with Sabrina Satana's ocasional outbursts of passion (i.e. Bitchcraft) making "Kiss The Goat" their best achievemnet so far. The Electric Hellfire Club, all satan worship aside, are truly amazing band with a unique sound (which is almost imposibble to find nowdays) and "Kiss The Goat" is the perfect example of that, it is also a good album to start of with if you are new to all this. Get it. Buy it now.
