Part of the Sound Healing series from Soundings of the Planet, Tao of Healing teams flautist Dean Evenson with Li Xiangting, a professor from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and an authority on the guqin, an ancient seven-string zither from China. Their collaboration, with barely perceptible support from keyboards, acoustic guitar (Scott Huckabay) and percussion, is a hushed, serene, and inviting experience--as soft as the faintest breeze felt on a peaceful, sun-warmed afternoon. Evenson's meditative flute, which rarely strays from the instrument's comfortable low and middle ranges, is the disc's prevailing voice, with Xiangting's guqin discreetly supplying tasteful, angular accents to complement the Western vibe of Evenson's reflective improvisations. At times, in fact, this calming, slow-go disc (60 minutes in length) briefly conveys traces of jazzlike harmonics (largely Huckabay's contribution) that flavors the blissful proceedings with a nice touch of musicality. A slight soundalike quality might be detected in some tracks, but this is a minor quibble. This is Evenson's first recording where natural sounds are not included, though the liner notes assert the mix makes use of "earth resonance frequency" (7.8 hertz), all to enhance a listener's attainment of an alpha state. Actually, Evenson, Xiangting, and company do a commendable job of that on their own. A strong choice for supplementing massage or meditation. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Good for pets as well as people.......2007-03-03
I purchased this cd for myself, but noticed my Basenji seemed to relax a little whenever I put the music on. I often play it for her in repeat mode when I am going to be out. She is definitely "zen'd out" by the time I return!
I can best describe the music by saying that there are no loud instruments or uptempo arrangements to distract from the relaxation experience. The melody is soothing and uncomplicated, so it works well in many settings where a quiet mood is preferable (like doggie bath day). So do something nice for your pet...and yourself...and check out this cd. Alternately, I would recommend Dean Evenson's equally pleasant "Forest Rain" cd.
nice.......2007-01-20
Students in my tai chi exercise classes for seniors prefer this--
over several similar CDs.
Maybe its the 7.8 hertz Earth Resonance Frequency in the mix?
Can be used also when doing the 24 Form Yang style--
Although "O'Holy Night" works wonders during the Christmas season
(5 and 1/2 minutes almost fits the Form perfectly.)
Use for healing.......2007-01-16
I just purchased this CD for my realative diagnoised with Lukiema, I hope it helps him, He is very stressed and can not keep a clear head to sleep.
Tao of Healing.......2005-10-19
Excellent for the massage clinic. Arrived a little earlier than expected in perfect condition.
Tai Chi Music.......2005-08-27
We use this music during the Short Form of Tai Chi. It enhances the connection to the earth.

Customer Reviews:
Great Collection; Beautiful Piano.......2005-09-09
BEGINNINGS by Fernando Ortega is a 2 cd set featuring selections of some of the "early" recordings of this great pianist primarily drawn from four albums: Meditations of the Heart, Meditations of the Heart Encore, Hymns and Meditations, and Night of Your Return. While many of these cds are available for purchase online, it is nearly impossible to find them in your typical Christian music store.
Of the thirty-four songs on the album, seventeen are instrumental.
Songs from Meditations of the Heart include: Sacrifice of Praise, Living Water, Morning Star, Family, I Love To Praise Your Name, and As For Us. (Six of the ten songs on the album)
Songs from Meditations of the Heart Encore include: I Remember Well, It's Your Love, Tossed On The Wind, Teach Me Thy Way, and Creation Sings. (Five of the eleven songs on the album).
Hymns and Meditations: Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Near The Cross, Softly and Tenderly, Nothing But The Blood, and I Need Thee Every Hour/Just As I Am/ Come Ye Sinners Medley, What Wondrous Love Is This, Con Que Pagaremos, Brethren We Have Met To Worship, Sacred Head Now Wounded, and Nearer My God To Thee. (Which appears to be the entire album of Hymns and Meditations)
It also seems to include all the songs on Night Of Your Return as well. (My Song Is Love Unknown, Praise To The Lord, The Almighty, Night Of Your Return, Mi Abuelito, Chimayo, Jesus, Lover of My Soul, Here Is Love, Road Song, Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted, This is My Father's World, and Green Pastures.)
With two complete albums and two partial albums, BEGINNINGS is well worth the price and is a great addition for any Fernando Ortega fan's collection.
This piano music is wonderful. His style simple but beautiful.

Bought it for the First Song.......2007-05-26
Good album. First song is the best. Rest is okay. If you can download the first song on iTunes you will save some money.
Pressure sensitive..........2006-12-21
"Always There" got me through the 11th grade (1974 - 1975). Jazz on a Pop station (1230 am KGFJ and 1580 am KDAY - both in Los Angeles) - who'd have thought it? It's artists like Mr. Laws that showed me what "other" music could be dreamed up by Jazz artists for more mainstream Pop audiences. Five stars!!
Great CD - best of Ronnie Laws.......2000-10-26
Tremendous recording, been listening to it since 1981! Always there is just a classic tune, fantastic! I got sucked in by this great album and bought some other Ronnie albums, but they are very weak by comparison (they sound like Bob James).
If you're not a total purist and dont mind hearing the beginnings of the CD101 trend, this is the best of the bunch. Laws absolutely is wonderful on Always there.
Buy it, you'll be happy you did.
Funky And Smooth.......2000-05-15
I was first introduced to Ronnie a while ago, and soon fell in love with this album. If you want some upbeat, groovin' songs, check out this album. If you want some slow, smooth songs, check it out too. This is an album you can put on, and listen to layed back, or listen to while your are stompin' your feet and clapping your hands together! Get this album now!
Ol Skool Funky Jazz by One of Jazz's Premier Sessionmen........2000-03-15
"~When Ron Laws recorded this, he already had worked The track "Always There" is still played on many of the jazz/smooth jazz stations. Henderson's composition, "Why Do You Laugh At Me" is a Fish-fry lounge jam if ever I heard one, and like evvything else from Texas, it is done Texas Spicy and done Texas Big...all this, much more, and, I'm sure it doesn't hurt to be from a musical family....

Fantastic.......2006-01-30
No matter where you are, this is great music to listen to... in the car, while making dinner, or just sitting and reading a book. I tend to listen to CDs too often and get a bit tired of them, and off to the shelf they go. Not so with this... no matter what... it's just great music! It's on my ipod and in my car so it's always there, and it has yet to get "old".
The Winding Mystery..........2005-09-21
Bill Deasy is probably one of the finest songwriters I have ever encountered. Right up there with JT, Joni Mitchell and Dan Fogelberg in my mind. His entire body of work represents some of the most deeply satisfying, heartfelt wisdom and yearnings from an artist of any era.
The "winding mystery" to those who have discovered this man's genius, is why he is not a big star...But like any good mystery, it is the road of discovery, the journey itself that is of value. Deasy's musical journey has been long and at times convoluted, but ultimately redemptive, and it's clear he is on the right road with this new album "Chasing Down a Spark."
Here we find a hotter, more worldly Bill Deasy, and the tunes overall present the writer's optimistic world view. Lessons learned, wisdom found, forgiveness realized...
From the bluesy rockin' "Wishing Well", to the quiet, plaintive "And I Wait" to the many songs with catchy, hook-filled choruses that compel the listener to join in (Until I Get it Right, Now That I Know What it Means,Turn your Light On), this album has a feel-good quality that refreshes.
Joined by friends in both the writing and the performing (Brian Webb, Teitur Lassen, Molly Bancroft, Jane McCafferty, Rachael Yamagata,Maia Sharp, Scott Blasey, Rob James and more...) Deasy's clearly found the spark and got the fire going...
Turn your light on!!!.......2005-07-30
A few weeks ago i bought Rob Thomas solo cd "something to be". I really liked it. It's the kind of music you listen to and you start to like almost every song from the beginning. And that's the difference! You play it a few times and it doesn't matter wether you play it again or not. "Chasing down a spark" gets better and better with each listening. There's so much to find in it.I might have listened to it for about 80 times the last weeks and i still can't get enough - and i still explore new moods, ideas and intensions. This work - by the man himself Mr.Deasy - isn't just a cd...it's what life is all about. It captures more than you would wish to expect when you buy a cd.
It is silent and loud, happy and sad, dressed and "naked", powerful and weak at the same time. And you keep asking yourself "man - how can one cd do this to me?" I'm still impressed. And i'm still thankful for this work. 5 stars could never be enough! And there could never be enough words to describe it...so take the chance!!!

Product Description
Hugh Le Caine, early electronic music pioneer, demonstrates his Electronic Sackbut in 1948 by playing the opening clarinet solo from Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue'. Working at his Toronto laboratory, supported by the Canadian National Research Council, he went on to engineer and prototype the touch sensitive organ, variable speed recorder, multi-track recorder, and numerous other magnificent electronic instruments. And he demonstrated his inventions by composing his own music and by arranging well known tunes, demonstrating at the same time that he was a talented musician and that he had a great sense of humor. This CD, produced by Gayle Young, Le Caine's biographer, is a comprehensive compilation of his music, much of it not available before. The CD also includes many of Le Caine's spoken explanations of his demonstrations which make the CD come alive with human interest. In its commemoration of a remarkable personality and in the historical importance of its content, this is an essential CD. In the extent to which it is also enjoyable, it is a stunning accomplishment.
Customer Reviews:
Glimpse into genius.......2005-08-06
For any student of electronic music, this cd is a must. The cd works on so many levels: as an historical archive, a textbook of tape and control voltage manipulation, and as an interesting listening experience. You really feel as if you are connecting with the man himself. interesting note: he died shortly before John Chowning introduced FM synthesis to the world. Coincidence?

One of our favorite records!.......2001-06-05
This CD has been in our car CD-player for 3 months straight and we're still not tired of listening to it. Steve is one of the most remarkable tenors that you'll ever hear and together with other fine musicians he has put together one heck of a recording. The booklet that comes with the CD has the lyrics to every song and is jammed with quotes and photos--a very good value. I would classify this music as "folk" with a modern touch. Too bad that Amazon doesn't offer music samples. Return to Summer Lake, A Little Bit Fine and Momma Look Sharp would sell this CD.
