This debut revolutionized hip-hop (and launched half a dozen solo careers), as much for The RZA's raw barrage of off-kilter, off-key loops and sound effects as for its elliptically violent lyrics. Martial arts--at least as they appear in kung fu movies--are the Wu-Tang Clan's favorite metaphor, but they're also the organizing principle of the group, a crowd of eight rappers, each with his own way-out-there "fighting style." They created their own little self-contained culture, with its own symbols and shifting identities, and let listeners figure it out for themselves. Unless you're willing to immerse yourself in its world, it can be baffling and a little dry, but its aggression and originality are undeniable. --Douglas Wolk

I miss when hip hop sounded like diz and still i be bumpin diz album all day every day! Wutang clan's "enter the wu-tang ( 36 chambers)" should be in every real hip hop fan's collection. If you dont own it and you call yo self a true hip hop fan den you need to get beat down. Triple highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Killer Bees Swarming.......2007-04-26

Incorporating diciplined martial arts tactics including the group's name, Wu-Tang Clan, pierced through the industry with their debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). "Bring Da Ruckus" introduces the album and the clan with a slow, dark instrumentation with hints of ancient effects. Unselfishly sharing verses, four of the eight members slash through the track with lyrical wisardry. Picking up the pace on "Shame On A Nigga" is a direct blow with combining off keyed production with perfection. The Genius also known as The Gza stepped center stage on "Clan In Da Front" as the remaining members chant "...Wu, Wu, Wu..." bringing the clan to the forefront. Providing lyrical arsenal without any need for gimmicks, hook or chorus, "Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber" -Part I and II as six of the members flow back to back in unison and individualism with contents such as "...rap assassin / fastin'..." The same formula could be found on "Protect Ya Neck" with only a bridge to gap the diversity. "Can It Be All So Simple" mostly dedicated to the streets by Raekwon and Ghost Face Killer flows with finess over the looped overpowering guitar strum. The one, two kick drum accompanied by an Oriental themed keys on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" contributed to the LP's concept with Wu-Tang's signature sound. Continuing with "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F' Wit" they proved how tightly knit the group is going in any direction or angle. The title "C.R.E.A.M." soon made it to be a household slang for cash rules everything around me or better yet "...dollar, dollar bill y'all..." Member and title "Method Man" enlighten the dim surroundings with simple keys to compliment the rhaspy, energetic flow. Completing a 360 angle, "Tearz" contains tales of street life and decisions one make told by The Rza and Ghost Face Killer respectively. All production and arrangement was held down by member Prince Rakeem also known as The Rza that tailored the style and signature of the group to perfection. For its time and to date no other group with this many members come togher to create a timeless piece or classic the closest would be the earlier Three 6 Mafia material. The Rza, The Gza, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Inspector Deck, Raekwon The Chief, U-God, Ghost Face Killer and Method Man strikes as if it is retaliation, but their nitche was loosely guarded as they made an entrance.

5 out of 5 stars Classic East coast album.......2007-04-17

Not many groups can make a slammin classic album and not many can carry a whole coast on their backs but Wutang was able to do that with this Masterpiece of an album. For starters everybody shines on here like ODB(RIP) rips Shame On A N***A to pieces and has an excellent verse on Protect Ya Neck. Inspectah Deck kills it on Clan In Da Front and Protect Ya Neck and others. Method Man of course was on fire back with Method Man. Raekwon and Ghostface murders Can It Be All So Simple plus Rae's verse on C.R.E.A. M. is still potent to this day. And of course RZA perfected the beats and his rhymes were superb on Wutang Clan Aint Nothing To F*** Wit and Tearz. Standout Tracks: SHAME ON A N****, CLAN IN DA FRONT, C.R.E.A.M., CAN IT BE AL SO SIMPLE, METHOD MAN(M E T H O D Man), DA MYSTERY OF CHESSBOXIN', PROTECT YA NECK, WUTANG CLAN AINT NOTHING TO F*** WIT, TEARZ etc. Filler: NONE! Bottom Line: Wutang Clan's first album is a classic that is one of the best albums of 94. The whole album can be listened to from beginning to end without skipping tracks. Its unfortunate that they got lazy after Wutang Forever but thats life. I suggest you pick it up if you can because albums like these are hard to find. Its like somebody is intentionally trying to erase our memory of what hip hop truly is.

Yes, this one is one of the greatest hip hop albums to have come out. Don't really need to say anymore than that.

Given RZA's work on both the Ghost Dog and Kill Bill soundtracks, it's no surprise to see the venerable Wu-Tang producer tackling Afro Samurai. However, unlike the previous albums, where RZA more or less created scores, the Afro Samurai soundtrack is a mix of instrumental and conventional rap songs, featuring an eclectic mix of MCs, including Talib Kweli, GZA, True Master, and RZA himself. There are some strange tracks here, none more so than the maple syrupy R&B songs featuring Stone Mecca or Baby. The instrumentals, removed from the context of the movie, are themes rather than fully fleshed out songs but a few, like "Afro's Father Fight" are tantalizingly fast, furious, and funky. The rap songs hold some surprises, such as Q-Tip popping up on "Just a Lil Dude," or veteran Big Daddy Kane sparking off the dramatic "Cameo Afro." Fans of RZA's past albums, especially his Bobby Digital projects, will find Afro Samurai to their liking, but for those expecting a classic Wu-Tang album, they might be left lost in the oft-jarring mix of sounds. --Oliver Wang

5 out of 5 stars response.......2007-05-27

This is the most retarded review ever written on the internet). Do you not now Kool Keith precedes the RZA. Ultramagnetics mean anything to you? Bobby Digital came out around 98, by then Keith had already released the Cenubites and Dr. Octogan projects/aliases. FYI: Keith gripes that RZA stole his idea and has a picture on one of his cds, for a character by the name of Bobby Analog (or something like that, making fun of RZA and what he percieves as the RZA and Andree 3000 emulating his penchant for alter egos.) "It's because of RZA that I lisent to hip-hop." I respect that but know real hip hop was around before the clan (referance Organized Confusion for starters) (BS below-)

Before it was cool to be an evil genius, RZA was doing it; in fact, he's arguably the man who set the blueprint for emcees like MF DOOM and the various bugged-out personas Kool Keith would adopt later in his career. It's because of RZA that I even listen to hip-hop today, and I'm eternally indebted to Rakeem for introducing me to my favorite genre. So, it comes as no surprise that I was eagerly awaiting the release of the first entirely(well, for the most part) RZA-produced album since 2003's Birth of a Prince. However, the soundtrack concept is a gift and a curse with this release.

4 out of 5 stars AFRO SAMURAI.......2007-05-13

KEEPING IN MIND THAT THIS IS A SOUND TRACK I GIVE IT POINTS FROM A MUSICAL STAND POINT. RZA WAS NOT AFRAID TO SHOW US YET ANOTHER SIDE OF HIS CREATIVITY. THE COLLABO'S WERE GOOD IF YOU KNOW WHO TALEB AND BIG DADDY ARE. THE SLOW R&B SONGS WERE SOULFUL. THE SAMPLES FROM THE MOVIE WERE PUT IN THE RIGHT PLACE AS YOU GO TO THE NEXT SONG, LIKE INTERLUDES. THE BONUS BOBBY DIGITAL SONGS ARE ARE DECENT TOO. RZA LIKES TO ZIG ZAG ALOT. IF YOU ARE A VERSATILE OPEN MINDED LISTENER, THIS ALBUM IS FOR YOU.

4 out of 5 stars A great soundtrack for a great show.......2007-03-20

The RZA has done a fantastic job on the Afro Samurai soundtrack. He does a great job of mixing hip hop elements with the oriental style music and tunes that are remenicent of the great 70s kung fu movies. And we are also treated to a few bonus trancks from RZA's alter-ego, Bobby Digital, that are off the hook too. Definately a great buy for anyone who loved Afro Samurai.

4 out of 5 stars Dope RZA CD.......2007-03-15

This is a awesome rap CD. RZA is the king of these grudge beats. If you hate mainstream rap then you should listen to this CD. :)

5 out of 5 stars My Intro to Hip Hop.......2006-07-05

I was 16 years old when this cd dropped, and I didn't listen to hip hop at all at the time. I was a skateboarder, and all I listened to was punk rock back then. I didn't really get the slang, styles, or concepts of hip hop; and I never really gave hip hop a chance before this cd came out. However, I do remember a lot of my friends telling me how nice The Wu were, and how excited they were when this cd was released.

After seeing the video for "Triumph" a few times, I knew that The Wu were dope. I didn't realize it at the time, but "Triumph" actually changed my whole perspective of hip hop. To this day, I believe that this song is the best posse cut ever. Inspectah Dek and Method Man jump start this song with incredible back to back verses, and the beat is epic. I've heard this song hundreds of times, but I still get amped whenever it's playing. Everyone spits a good verse on this song, and the energy of the track is incredible.

"It's Yourz" is another classic. This is a great closing track for disc 1. Similar to "Triumph", this song has a lot of energy. It also has a great hook. This time it's The Rza and Inspectah Dek who lace the track with the most memorable verses.

A lot of people hate on this cd, but I don't understand why. Although "Wu-Tang Forever" is not anywhere near as raw as "36 Chambers", it is definitely more lyrical. I don't agree with all these filler complaints either. I have listened to both of these discs repetitively for nearly a decade, and the only tracks I skip aren't actual songs.

My favorite tracks include:

Disc 1
Reunited-great verses from The Gza and Meth
Visionz-great Production from The Rza
Older Gods-love the beat and Ghostface's verse
It's Yourz-see Inspectah Dek verse

Disc 2
Triumph-The Anthem
Little Ghetto Boys-one of Cappadonna's more memorable verses
Hellz Wind Staff-dope song w/ martial arts vibe
Heaterz-another great beat courtesy of The Rza

The Last Words: Classic cd. It honestly changed my life.

3 out of 5 stars Andrew Cyrille?.......2007-05-04

About the missing "jazzy" song--I remember watching this movie and hearing Andrew Cyrille and Jimmie Lyons playing "Nuba One." I thought it was pretty surprising, considering the song is pretty far out for a Hollywood movie. The song is available on the "Nuba" album (first track), and you should be able to find a used copy here on Amazon. Too bad they didn't include it on the soundtrack--I thought it was a great part of the film and really set the tone. I hope this helps you in some way!

5 out of 5 stars What's That Song?.......2007-04-17

The song that he plays in the car, it sounds like it's a jazz song. Its not on the OG soundtrack and it's neither on the Japanese soundtrack. (I own both).

Ghost Dog plays it in the car while it's raining, and no not the Rap song in the beginning of the movie or Reggae song I have those, I need the jazzy instrumental song, that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

5 out of 5 stars A must for every ghost-faced killa.......2006-01-19

This version of the soundtrack a vastly superior to the US version...the dope beats throughout seem to divide into two seperate songs. The two tracks with participation by the rest of the Wu Tang Clan are especially fine.

5 out of 5 stars The missing song.......2006-01-17

one song that this record doesnt include is the one that plays after ghost dog steals the first car. The song is "from then till now" by Killah Priest. just for those of you who like it too, it is included in "Heavy Mental" cd

4 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack.......2005-08-20

Very good soundtrack, would be 5 stars, but it doesn't have all the songs from the movie, I have both the soundtrack and the score, but neither have the song I am looking for, I was looking for a track that was played after Ghost Dog stole the Lexus, but neither have it, still, GREAT soundtrack!

Amazon.com's Best of 2001

The Wu-Tang Clan have slimmed down on their lean and mean third album, both in title and in content. Clearly having learned a lesson from the ostentatious affair that was their last group effort, Wu-Tang Forever, The W weighs in at a taut 13 tracks, with little, if any, extraneous self-righteous solipsism. RZA returns to the boards for all but one track and proves that Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was no fluke, manipulating ghoulish soul to chilling effect on "Hollow Bones" and dropping (and chopping) thunderous horns at the intro to "One Blood Under W" (which features a stellar turn from reggae don Junior Reid). The album's first two singles--"Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)" and "Gravel Pit"--are both fierce, propulsive numbers, inspiring the Wu collective--Ghostface Killah and Method Man in particular--to higher energy levels than they've displayed in years. Elsewhere, The W is Ghost's record, especially on the unhinged lament "I Can't Go to Sleep" and the prostrate plea "Jah World." Memorably, Snoop and ODB collaborate to comic effect on "Conditioner," and all the album's cameos--from Redman and Nas to Isaac Hayes and Busta Rhymes--show that the group is still as savvy as ever. On The W, the boasting is earned. --Jon Caramanica

"Clearly having learned a lesson from the ostentatious affair that was their last group effort, Wu-Tang Forever"

What?? Do they even listen to hip-hop? That album is so much better than this, I'm glad there's 2 discs of it. Wu-Tang Forever is a straight Wu banger, The W is where things start to get weird. Why? Cause it's from late 2000, almost 2001 of course, & Wu-Forever is from '97. More or less there's your answer, & the secret to finding & obtaining only the best hip-hop. Not that there weren't some dope releases in 2000, Kweli dropped his classic album w/Hi-Tek - Train of Thought by Reflection Eternal, Afu-Ra dropped a killer album, the D.I.T.C. cd came out then I think. But a lot of rappers were starting to slow down & deteriorate by the turn of the millenium & the Wu-Tang Clan as a whole are one of them. Some of the s*** on here is really weird, & you can tell by the album cover & the guest appearances this just isn't your good ol' Wu-Tang.

to 36 Chambers, Forever, and Iron Flag, this is their worst CD. But if this is their worst CD, this is the dopest worst CD I've ever heard. Most of the beats are hot and the lyrics are on point. They colaborate with Nas, Busta Rhymes, Issac Hayes, Snoop Dogg, and Redman. They bring in some outside lyrics into the album. Not bad at all. Just a little softer than 36 Chambers and Forever, so there are some Wu fans that are going to be pissed. But I'm feeling this CD and I say it's a must buy.

Their voices take you under... they're just brilliant artists.. you'd have to be INSANE NOT to buy this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Not the Best But The Most Well Kown.......2007-03-29

Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin and Shame on A Nigga are the best songs out of these. Can It Be All so Simple.. I have a hard time not reminicing to that one. This song needs to be played on mega speeks. Strictly crew songs here except Can It Be All and Method Man. Don't think you can replace Enter the 36 Chambers with this comp. You're missing too much good music. In fact notice that all songs are from WTC albums. Think about how many songs that WU made that aren't represented here?!?! I mean on the individual ODB, Meth, Genius albums. Whoah! Real WU collectors will look past this CD and put up those fedz.

4 out of 5 stars Great Compilation of One of the Most Interesting Rap Acts of the 90s.......2006-10-22

This album has grown on me more and more every time I have listened to it. Infectious, diverse, and original, this is one of the best places to start for an introduction to the musical prowress of the Clan and its members.

5 out of 5 stars Year 1992, Avant-garde Lyrics & Rap Style.......2006-06-27

These boyz are talented with the special gift of 'Vision for good rap & authentic lyrics' and that's not current. You don't see that often! These days rappers get lazy but back in the days, 1992 these artits faced the challenge of being creative and different. I love this CD and view it as a COLLECTABLE.
Mind's Playin Tricks on Me is timeless.

4 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits of the Wu-Tang........2006-01-14

Given the uneven career of Wu-Tang Clan, ranging from undeniable classics like Enter The Wu-Tang 36 Chambers to weak (at best) efforts like Iron Flag, compiling a greatest hits package is bound to present some problems for its creators. The biggest question to answer: what can you offer to both people satisfied only owning their introduction, 36 Chambers, and those looking for an introduction to the group?

While creating a comparison to 36 Chambers would be impossible, Legend of the Wu-Tang: Wu-Tang Clan's Greatest Hits (BMG) serves a dual purpose: both as a Wu-Tang primer for the uninitiated and necessity for the diehard fan. Predictably, Legend draws heavily from the group's seminal debut 36 Chambers. Few groups, including Wu-Tang itself, would be able to top the success of 36 Chambers and it contributes nearly half the songs on Legend. To sweeten the deal for owners of 36 Chambers, alternate mixes of "Protect Ya Neck" and "Method Man" are provided. While the former is virtually indistinguishable from the original, the latter replaces the original with alternate verses and proves to be a highlight of the album.

In addition to the usual suspects from the "other three albums" - crowd bangers "Triumph," "Gravel Pit," etc. -- three more obscure songs previously released on non-Wu albums show up. The group sleeps through "Diesel" from the Soul in the Hole soundtrack, but fares slightly better on "Shaolin Worldwide" from the soundtrack to Next Friday and a cover of Run-D.M.C.'s "Sucker M.C.s" from 1997's In the Beginning...There Was Rap compilation.

In a perfect world, 36 Chambers goes the Ready to Die/Illmatic route and gets re-issued with remixes and rarities. But as it stands, Legend provides a solid overview of the Wu's career to date. Just make sure 36 Chambers is in your collection already.

Ok. I love the wu. i repeat, i love the wu. i don't understand how anybody could give this album 5 stars. it is mediocre at best. the best track is "never again" by remedy. if you think this album is 5 star material, then you havent experienced true wu tang. if you want the real wu sound get these albums:
1. think differently presents: Wu-Tang meets Indie Culture
2. enter the wu-tang - 36 chambers (DUH!!)
3. Raekwon-only built 4 cuban linx
4. Bronze Nazareth - The Great Migration (My favorite album right now)

dont get stung by the swarm - burn this album from someone else's copy. if you're gonna buy something, buy the bronze nazareth or the indie culture album

4 out of 5 stars Killa Beez On Da Swarm !!!.......2005-01-06

The formal introduction of Wu-Tang Clan's extended family known as The Killa Beez.
1-The Legacy (Royal Fam) Good song. Timbo King kills the mic.
2-Concrete Jungle (Sunz of Man) Not the first time people heard Sunz Of Man. But everyone was mostly familiar with Killah Priest. This album was actually released on the same day that Sunz Of Man's "The Last Shall Be First" came out.
3-Co-Defendants (Shyheim & Hell Razah)I first heard Razah on the song before this one, and when I heard him here again with Shyheim I was convinced. Razah is my favorite Sunz Of Man member.
Sorry Priest.
4-S.O.S.-Shoot On Sight.(Inspectah Deck & Steetlife) As usual, nothin but fire from INS and Street.
5-Execute Them (Wu-Tang Clan w/ Streetlife) Perhaps THE best song, and not because it is a Wu-Tang song. Raekwon, Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck all kill it with a hot chorus from Streetlife.
6-Bronx War Stories (A.I.G.) This group, whose name stands for Allah Is God are from the Bronx. The two members are Allah Wise and Darkim B Allah. This was the first time I heard of them (and I'm from the Bronx.)
7-And Justice For All (RZA as Bobby Digital w/ KillArmy and Method Man) This was the first time RZA performed under his Bobby Digital alias. I know alot of people were surprised that this new MC (Bobby) sounded alot like RZA. KillArmy (specially Killa Sin) are great and Method (as usual) is pure fire.
8-Punishment (Black Knights Of The North Star) First appearance from these west-coast Killa Beez. Pretty Impressive. This group would later separate into two groups: Black Knights (Holocaust, Doc Doom, Crisees, and Monk) and North Star (Christ Bearer & Meeko). Holocaust absolutely destroys the mic in his verse of this song, which is the first verse.
9-Bastards (Ruthless Bastards) Little is known of this group. This is one of their few appearances. The only members I know are Appocalipps and Pearl Handlez.
10-On The Strength (The Beggaz) I know even less of this group. The song is crazy tho. Alot of high science.
11-Cobra Clutch (Ghostface Killah) Do I even have to stress how hot his song is? I mean, it is The Ghost i am talking about. NUFF SAID.
12-Never Again (Remedy) First appearance by this white (Jewish) MC from Staten Island. Very Knowledgable song about his roots and the whole holocaust experience. You know if a white boy is down with Wu-Tang, he GOTTA be nice.
13-Where Was Heaven (Wu-Syndicate) PURE HOTNESS. these virgina cats are fire. They actually known some of the members of Wu-Tang for awhile. Before Wu-Tang were signed and they used to do shows in Virginia, people looked at Wu-Tang like aliens from outta space. But Wu-Syndicate (Crime Syndicate) at the time, showed them love. They swore to each other who ever got put on first, they would introduce the other to the world. Sure enugh, Wu-Tang got fame first and several years later, they introduced this group who changed their name to Wu-Syndicate outta respect. Thats Peace.
14-97 Mentality (Cappadonna w/ Ghostface Killah) This song definately shows Cappadonna's freestyle skills in the same fashion that he did on Ghostface's "Winter Wars" from the IRONMAN album. (Tip: Cappadonna taught Inspectah Deck how to rhyme. Cappa's name was Original)
15-Fatal Sting (Black Knights Of The North Star) The second performance from these west-coast killa beez is the last song of the album. Listen to Doc Doom and Crisees' verses on this song. Pure Hot Sh*t.

4 out of 5 stars good Wu compilation.......2004-12-09

For only having 6 of the 9 original members and a bunch of Wu-Affiliates I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. Only has 1 really weak track with 3 ok ones, the rest are good or better with 2 classics. It's got some gangsta $h!+ and some deep songs too. A must have album for Wu-Tang fans.

#1 - 7.5 (royal fam)
#2 - 7.5 (sunz of man -- prodigal sun, 62nd assassin, hell razah -- no killah priest)
#3 - 8 (shyheim, hell razah)
#4 - 9 (inspectah deck, street life)
#5 - 8.5 (raekwon, inspectah deck, street life, masta killa)
#6 - 9 (AIG)
#7 - 9 (rza, killarmy, method man)
#8 - 6 (black knights)
#9 - 7.5 (ruthless bastards)
#10 - 8.5 (beggaz -- deep song)
#11 - 10 (classic by ghostface killah)
#12 - 9.5 (remedy -- very deep song)
#13 - 9 (wu-syndicates -- deep song)
#14 - 10 (classic by Cappadonna & Ghostface Killah -- great beat)
#15 - 8 (black knights)

If you're expecting a series of previously unreleased studio tracks from the Enter the 36 Chambers or Only Built 4 Cuban Linx sessions, you won't find much of that lurking here. But what DJ Mathematics assembles should appeal to any fan of the Wu or even just their scowling street-tale aesthetic and dissonant production. A loose assemblage of different B-sides, remixes, and a few unreleased tracks, the album includes both Wu-Tang founders like Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and GZA as well as satellite artists Eyes Low, Buddha Bless, and a post-pubescent Shyhiem trying to come grimy. Fans of the RZA school of dirty, dusted soul and funk loops will find much to like, especially "Wu Banga (Remix)," "King Toast Queen," and "U Don't Care." A throwback to the classic Wu era, Unreleased is welcome relief for rugged rap fans thirsty for liquid swords. --Oliver Wang

4 out of 5 stars wish it was a real cd.......2007-04-09

this cd is ill. it deff takes me back to some 36 chambers cuban linx days. there is no doubt that wu tang is and was the greatest rap group of all time. there are a few new tracks from wu tang and wu afiliated ppl. but most of the tracks are remixs by the wu's long time dj mathematics. i guess there is no need to say if you r a tru wu-tang fan you need this bc the truth is really ur either a tru wu tang fan these days or u dont no much about them. its too bad but there is no more inbetween any more. i would really love a new wu cd with all new stuff. and meth is on the track that amazon said he is on.

THIS ALBUM IS A DIEHARD WU-FAN COLLECTOR. IT HAS THE WUTANGS OLD SOUND AND STYLE AFTER THE 36 CHAMBERS AND BEFORE THE WUTANG FOREVER SOUND. IN THOSE TIMES EVERYTHING SOUNDED DARK AND HEAVY ON THE MENTAL. IT IS BY ALLAH MATHEMATICS. THE WU-SOUND TODAY METAMORPHED TO A NEW TYPE OF FEEL INCLUDING MATH. HENCE, THIS ALBUM IS NOT FOR A SOFT EARED PERSON.
DIE HARD FANS, REMENISCE ON THIS BACK IN THE DAY JOINT AND HOLD TIGHT ON THE GOD'S JEWEL.

5 out of 5 stars A throwback to the Wu era.......2007-03-05

Contrary to the Amazon description, this album does not feature Method Man on any of the outstanding material compiled here (thanks to the the peerless DJ Mathematics). Some outstanding tracks here. At it's best, this album showcases some of the pioneering touches that contributed to the Wu pantheon. Very reminiscent of '36 Chambers'.

In 1993 the Wu-Tang Clan redefined hip-hop with their gritty debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). With the proliferation of a whole slew of questionable solo projects from group members Raekwon (Immobilarity) and RZA (Digital Bullet--huh?) to a recently slapped together Ol' Dirty Bastard greatest-hits compilation, everybody's fave rap group have been on autopilot. On Iron Flag, the rap assassins from Staten Island give you sharp reminders of what made them so brilliant. Knob twiddler extraordinaire RZA mishmashes obscure soul riffs and horn blasts on "Uzi (Pinky Ring)" and "Rules," upping the mixing-console ante. "Back in the Game" brilliantly utilizes the ubiquitous love croons of Ronald Isley over a sparse piano loop and scattered acoustic guitars, while Flavor Flav's guest rants on "Soul Power (Black Jungle)" take this one over the top. Sure there are a few toss-away tracks, like "Chrome Wheels," where the Clan lazily rip misogynist rhymes over an uninspiring Alexander O'Neal sample, but eclectic, low-bpm numbers like "Babies" more than make up for the crew's few shortcomings. Ol' Dirty Bastard, the only Wu banger who couldn't record on this album, is in some correctional facility smiling right now. --Dalton Higgins

This album was pretty solid. If you compare it to the early releases except for the W this is nothin at all. After a few listens it grew on me. I just feel the production could have been better, but since I listen more for mic skills thats the reason i enjoy this album. This album will appeal to diehard fans more.

4 out of 5 stars Didnt like it at first..........2006-05-02

..didn't like this album at first but I've been listening to it all the way through a few times over the last few days. First got it about a year ago so I was surprised to find myself liking it. Some of the lyrics aren't as good as some other Wu-Tang stuff but the whole thing is pretty tight.

Most of the members shine throughout the album actually, especially GZA, Inspectah Deck, Method Man and U-God.

Beats aren't typical Wu-Tang stuff but they're banging, some of them may have to grow on you though. I hated Chrome Wheels, Radioactive and Soul Power at first for example. Overall it probably has to grow on you, but its a really nice album.

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing Wu-Album.......2006-03-21

as it was written: Wu-Tang ain't nuthin to f... with.
BUT this album was not good maybe 3 above average tracks and the rest are average and nothing special at all, not bad not good...

3 out of 5 stars Wu Flavor Gets a Twist.......2006-02-23

One can't help but compare this album to the Wu's previous, more generally accepted efforts; however, this one stands mostly on its own. Iron Flag shows both an evolution and an internalization of the Wu sound: the traditional Wu-Tang sound has come to an experimental point, and whether one likes the album or not really depends on one's own taste. None of the tracks are inherently bad; rather some just may be harder to get into than others depending on the person. By all means check it out, but if you're a Wu beginner, start elsewhere.

Product Description

Ghostface Killah (aka Tony Starks, Ironman, Ghost Deini, Pretty Toney, Wally Champ, GFK, Starky Love, Dennis Coles) is one of the best rappers ever. He continues to release quality music year after year. A member of the Hip Hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, his name is derived from the alias of the primary villain from the film "Ninja Checkmate" (aka "The Mystery of Chess Boxing"). After Wu-Tang Clan achieved breakthrough commercial success in the early 90s, Ghostface, like his clan-mates, began a solo career, which turned out to be one of the most critically and commercially successful solo careers of all the group members. Early in his career he would wear a mask during performances and photoshoots. It was rumoured this was because Ghostface was wanted by the police and did not publicly remove it until his name was cleared. Since his debut on the opening verse of "Bring da Ruckus", the first track from the Wu-Tang Clan's critically acclaimed debut, 1993's "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)", Ghostface has made little effort to appeal to anyone outside of his loyal New York street fan base, yet he continues to achieve surprising commercial success. His latest release, called "Hidden Darts: Special Edition", is a collection of rarities and non-album cuts that span Ghost's entire career. Full of raw beats and flowing rhymes, the CD features guest rappers including fellow Wu-bangers Raekwon, RZA, Method Man and Cappadonna, some of his boys from Theodore Unit including Shawn Wigs and Trife Da God, and a Rap legend you may have heard of named Slick Rick. This comp will be enjoyed by anyone that likes good Hip Hop music. Ghostface Killah "Hidden Darts"... an album not to be missed!

4 out of 5 stars Good collection of some Rarer Ghost tracks.......2007-06-04

The 4th album that Ghost has been a part of in the past 17 months is "Hidden Darts", while a lot of these fake phony limited skill rappers out now drop song after songs of garbage, Ghostface shows here why he is one the premier MC's, cause all 4 of the albums he was part of in the past year and a half are better than almost everythig thats comes out now. With 22 songs, you get a lot of some of the more rare tracks from mixtapes and ones that didn't make his albums. If you're a fan of the Wally Champ you've more than likely heard some of the songs (a few from "Fishscale", "More Fish", Theodore Unit's "718", and his collabo album with Trife "Put it on the Line", and a few others from mixtapes) (I've heard 11 of the 22 before). Guests are on a little over half of the songs and almost all are from the Wu or Theodore Unit. Of the 22 songs, 1 is a near classic, 13 are good or real good and 8 are decent, like always he has no bad songs on here. A must have from one of the most consistant lyricists of all time.

4 out of 5 stars Can Ghost do any wrong?.......2007-04-16

Everything about this disc screams 'cheap bootleg B-side moneymaker.' Then again, that's what I thought when I bought 'More Fish,' and it was almost as hot as 'Fishscale.'

With this release, which I believe is a sort of career retrospective of b-side tracks, I'm drooling all over myself in anticipation of Ghost and MF Doom's forthcoming collabo. The beats are a tad rougher and less polished than the last two albums, but it's all to the good. The this-just-in opener moves along nicely, followed up by two always-welcome collabs with Raekwon. I swear 'Murda Goons' is an MF Doom loop, and the 'Cher Chez La Ghost' remix here takes a loop that's been used a million times, but still sounds hot with Ghost's flow.

Not to mention the heavy-soul 'The Sun,' featuring nice verses from Slick Rick and the RZA.

With these last few albums, Ghost has reached Redman-like status as an artist who is consistently entertaining enough that even occasionally mid-level production can't bring him down. Props.

4 out of 5 stars Great Ghost compilation........2007-04-13

Ghostface Killah is one of the illest emcees to ever live. There's no denying that. With a constantly changing flow, raw emotions, and stream of consciousness lyrics that challenge any emcee who has ever spit for the throne, Tony Starks has constantly etched his name into the hip-hop landscape. I've displayed my affection for Ghost on my Fishscale and More Fish reviews, so I'll spare you the lovefest for this review.

Hidden Darts: Special Edition isn't an album of entirely new material. In fact, most of it is taken from the earlier days in his solo career. While I was reluctant to check out this album for that fact alone, I finally caved in, realizing that a collection of Ghostface outtakes, remixes, and collaborations are probably better than most emcee's studio albums. I was correct. While this album lacks cohesiveness(it's a compilation of tracks that span Ghost's solo career, after all), it is consistently dope from track to track; something that's not surprising when you take into account who is featured.

The track that finally influenced me to pick up this album is Wise; a song that was released earlier this year as a hype track for the compilation. This track alone is honestly enough reason to warrant a purchase of Hidden Darts; the production is dope, and Ghost's trademark whiny flow push the track well above average. This track shows why Ghostface is the undisputed King of Soul, as no one could've wrecked such a soulful beat with the presence that Ghost did.

Raekwon can be found on five tracks on this album, all of which showcase the amazing chemistry he and Ghostface have always shared. Belt Holders and The Watch are both infinitely ill, and The Sun, also featuring Slick Rick and RZA, is an amazing cut from four hip-hop legends; even if it is a revisit from Ghost's Bulletproof Wallets. That's basically all that's keeping this album from five-star status; there's just a little too much rehashed music to put this in the same league as the two Fish albums. While the material found within is equally dope, there's a bit too much 'been there, done that' to make this a classic; though, I don't know if anyone was expecting a classic from an album full of unreleased tracks and collaborations independently released by Ghost himself.

This is a must-have for Ghostface fans, and provides even more uncut dope to Ghostface fiends. Pick it up if you need even more Ghostface to tithe you over until his next project.

5 out of 5 stars Tony for Mayor.......2007-03-22

This is an awesome Ghostface album that is not to be missed by any fan of the Wu-Tang Clan. Lyrically the whole album is on point. Ghost really shines as he tears every track to shreds, and his lyrics are reminiscent his older albums Ironman and Supreme Clientele. The cameos on this album are fantastic as well. Raekwon has some nice origional material on the three tracks he is on, my favorite being "The Watch", and Method Man seriously kills it on "Drummer". Trife da God & Wigs both impressed me on this album, and are in my opinion better represented here than on "More Fish".

Unfortunately, there are a few things that I was slightly disappointed in. First of all, theres a couple songs where there is some recycled lyrics, namely "Hidden Darts", "CheChe la Ghost (Remix)", and "9mm" (which is a remix of "9 milli bros.". Really this doesnt hurt the album, because Ghost spits some origional stuff on those tracks too. "When You Walk" is a song that I already had, downloaded from the offical website, but its still a 5 star track so it doesnt hurt either. On the track "The Sun", Slick Rick appears in his old school style form, but RZA says like 4 bars...bummer. Cappadonna's lyrics weren't that great on "Odd Couple" IMHO, which is too bad because that is the only thing holding that beat, and Ghost, back from a 5 star song. I also could have done without Keyshia Cole on "Mama", the remix of "Momma" on the "Fishscale" album.

Overall this album is better than the last, and it seems Ghost cant be stopped, even if hes underrated.

Lyrics: 10/10 ~Ghost gets better and better.
Production: 9/10 ~Mostly bangers, but a couple fall short.
Content: 9/10 ~Nearly every track is hot.

Top 5 Tracks:
1. "Return of Theodore Unit" feat. Wigs & Trife
2. "Drummer" feat. Meth, Street Life, and I think Trife too.
3. "The Watch" feat. Raekwon
4. "Heard it All Before"
5. "Late Night Arrival" feat. Trife & Wigs

FYI: This album doesnt come with any track info or ghost thankyous, only a track listing...
