This truley is a great album. Most of JOJ's best songs are found on this album:

Fear Of Dying Good, catchy song.
Nazi Halo Great song. One of there best.
Rabbiteen Again, one of their best.
Strawberry Gashes IS their best song. Just one of those songs that touches you in all the right places.
Vivica Good song that really goes nowhere. And it doesnt need to.
Underjoyed Good catchy song. Grows on you.
Star No Star Most people might say this is their best song. Its up there
Losing His Touch Really good song.


Overall, i recommend buying this album- TODAY.

If you like Jack OFF Jill, this is a must. Maybe their lightest work but 'tis really a worthy album. They show a lot of maturity in the lyrics compared to their previous releases, actually in my personal opinion this is the most mature album in their history. Songs like Cinnamon Spider, Rabitteen or Vivica are really amazing. Try this ;)

I have a thing for chick bands. I scour the web for new female fronted acts that sound good. There are a good number of hits, but unfortunately more misses. This album falls into the former, it's damn near a bullseye.

I personally consider this album to sound like a more refined and talented Hole. The vocals are mostly clean and crisp which sometimes clashes against the rugged and scoured beats. There are some tough songs on here, like "When I am Queen" and "Nazi Halo".

Most of the rest of the songs are catchy and have a much wider audience appeal. "Cinnamon Spider" and "Star no Star" are some of the more varied in sound styles. Cinnamon Spider is fast and extremely catchy with it's guitars and light vocals while Star no Star is a haunting and slower paced song with equally melodic singing. My personal favorite is "Vivica," in all it's depressing glory. This song has a light beat with lyrics and vocals that ooze self loathing.

This cd is not a single minded effort, it goes in so many directions yet it all seems connected. It's a great album and there's a hidden track at the end of the cd. It's a cover of The Cure's "Love Song"... and it's phenomenal. The only thing is, the album feels like it's over a bit too soon. Still much better than music being cranked out nowadays.

First of all I can't bring myself to give anything anything less than a 5-star review unless it was un-bearable and there was absolutely no good song and it was bland and un-inspired. This CD is that total oppisite. Sadly Jack Off Jill is now a defunct band but they were so amazing when they were together, and sadly Jessika's new band Scarling doesn't live up the greatness of this CD. The best song here is "Strawberry Gashes."

I read in Manson's bio that the singer for this band was a groupie of his. And it shows. This cd is a clean, more innocent version of Manson's first cd.

Her voice is nice and catchy, but the content wont appeal to many peole over the age of 16. This was a cd that was made to get quick appeal and then fade away just as fast.

I give this album 4 stars for these excellent songs: Insomnia, Prince of Darkness, Time: The End. One of Megadeth's best songs, Wanderlust, is easily worth the price of the album.

The rest of the songs? Not so great. But, that's why we have playlists...

3 out of 5 stars Pop Megadeth - But Still Some Metal Songs.......2007-07-12

Megadeth's most underrated album starts with two great tracks. "Insomnia" and "Prince of Darkness" are both heavy sounding tracks. "Prince of Darkness" has great lyrics..."I have killed more men than all the nations' wars..." It tells about Satan, definitely...Enter the Arena...intro...and then "Crush 'em" which is quite violent track. "Brealine" is a great peaceful track with an important message about poor people...the misery they have. "The Doctor..." is a great track too...it is heavy with strange lyrics. "I'll Be There" is that kind of song you either love or hate. Mustaine's voice is great in this track. "Wanderlust", "Ecstasy", and "Seven" are basic Megadeth rock and no special. "Time" is an OK closing song...there's two parts...the End is heavier...

I purchases this CD when it came out, it was my second megadeth CD. I've read reviews on multiple Megadeth CD's saying "this ones the worst one, dont buy this one, get(insert cd name here)".... well i think this CD is great, along with every other megadeth CD ive heard. Of course each of their CD's are going to be different, Dave Mustaine goes through band members like starbucks goes through coffee beans. One of the reasons that I like megadeth is that their music on each CD IS different.

Anyway, back to this cd. It does lack alot of the faster paced music as the other albums and seems a little more "mainstream" but by no means is this a "bad" cd. All the songs on this CD are great, and people seem to have a problem that the CD is melodic. Id rate 7 songs 5 stars, 2 songs 4 stars, and 2 songs 3 stars. (enter the arena doesnt count). 49/55 stars is 89%, a great CD.

DONT BUY THIS CD IF YOUR EXPECTING ALOT OF GUITARS.... DONT BUY THIS CD IF YOUR A FAN OF OLD MEGADETH.... THIS CD IS MELODIC WITH ELECTRONIC INFLUENCES....

I love this cd, most of the songs are still hard with great lyrics. Also Dave Mustaine is able to pull off the melodic singing quite well.

3 out of 5 stars Not great but better than I had expected.......2007-06-26

This album is pop. Pop metal, yes, but pop. It wasn't too shocking given the fact that they were becoming more and more commercial with each album, but seeing this label kept me from buying this album for a couple of years. However, I'm kind of glad that I eventually picked it up. It's my second least favorite Megadeth album behind "The World Needs a Hero", but it's not too bad. The songs are radio-friendly but catchy enough and the album has a decent amount of variety. Although most of the songs are pop metal, they mix up faster pop metal with slower well-structured songs, one non-metal song (some would say more than one), and even some simple Bon Jovi-ish tracks (minus the classic rock influence). Some work. Some don't. If you've heard the singles "Crush 'Em" and "Breadline" then know that these are somewhere around the middle in terms of song quality.

4 out of 5 stars Different and Very Good.......2007-03-30

I read through the reviews of this album before hearing it in its entirety so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping it wouldn't be this band's "Load." I heard "Crush 'Em" when it first came out and thought it sounded trite and played out so I wasn't expecting much. After listening to it, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. This album is very good. It is original, still very crunchy, and Mustaine's vocals sound great. It has songs that are melodic yet heavy such as "Wanderlust" and "Ecstasy." It also has songs that are a clear departure for Megadeth but are very good like "I'll be There." Mustaine's guitar work stands out and you can tell he pushed himself to new heights on several songs, most notably "Seven." I didn't like "Time: The Beginning" as it sounds somewhat stale. However, "Time: The End" more than makes up for it. That song is awesome and the background vocals are off the charts. Mustaine's playing during that song is great too. The bonus track "Insomnia" is classic Megadeth and would have fit perfectly with several previously released Megadeth albums.

I am a big fan of classic Megadeth but welcome this change in style as it is a subtle yet very innovative departure from the classic Megadeth sound. The songs are catchy, well written and creative. I recommend this for fans of Megadeth and for fans of the genre.

This 1985 release appropriately takes on the feel of the "techno pop" so evidenced in Tom Cruise's "Top Gun" movie. Weisberg was influenced by the famous Blue Angels, so he tries to make the selections take on the feeling of fearless and innovative flying. As always, Weisberg succeeds. A class flutist, he assembles other talented musicians and vocalists to create a cohesive set of eleven outstanding songs. It's a shame it's out of print; I managed to get a copy from E-Bay, and it's well worth it.
RECOMMENDED if you can find it!

3 out of 5 stars Dissapointing long awaited album.......2007-06-23

Hot Cross fans had been waiting for this album FOREVER. It seemed as though the band was ready to release Risk Revival long ago but then decided to redo the entire thing. While this was incredibly annoying, I was confident that they were going to put out something amazing. Unfortunately, what finally came out was a disappointing lackluster album. There are 13 songs on here and I would say about 4 or 5 good tracks. The rest are just filler with a few decent parts in each track. The musicianship on every song is great as always but the songs just aren't well written. Fair Trades and Farewells was 20 minutes of mind numbing insanity. Overall Risk Revival is average at best.

My reasoning is as follows....
-Billy sings WAY too much. I don't think his mouth is ever shut on the entire disc. And for a band with such an awesome guitarist you'd think they'd have more instrumental parts.
-They need Josh! Don't get me wrong, Casey can still outplay most 2 people combined but that extra guitar really added a nice extra layer to the music that is missing on RR and thus making the rhythm section seem flatter than previous efforts.

Maybe next time around they'll blow us away again.

While Hot Cross may most commonly be known as the band that came after Saetia, they have spent the better part of the last four years proving they are much more than just the rebound band.

And indeed they are. Hot Cross, with their previous Full Length "Crionics" and their previous EPs "Fairtrades and Fairwells" and "A New Set Of Lungs," have put out consistently challenging and interesting material. Although the group has lost one of their guitar players this time around (Josh Jakubowski instead handled production duties for the disc) one would never know a difference. Hot Cross's sound still embodies the best elements of the screamo genre (complex guitar patterns, fast speeds, impressive drumming), but there's much more than intensity going on with "Risk Revival." In fact this may be some of the first attempts to establish moody atmopsheres on a record, as seen on the doomy "Silence Is Failure." Of course they don't tread into any murky waters, and the bulk of the album is comprised of blazing hits like "Kill The Name," Rejoiner" and "Blame Truth."

Every song is an accomplishment in its own right, and for a record which spans 13 songs, it's difficult to pick out any that should have been cut from the final product. As always the guitars are the center of the sound, and Casey Boland has written more than a few amazing riffs for "Risk Revival." Not just that, but this is probably one of the most impressive and complex records to have come out thus far this year, and most of the thanks should go to him. Billy Werner, while mostly known for his shot/yell/scream vocals, makes a few bold attempts at sounding melodic, and most often they work extremely well. It's far from a mainstream appeal though, so don't worry. And the backing vocals of Borland and Matt Smith do an excellent job of creating memorable choruses ("Kill The Name") or intensifying the mood ("Blame Truth"). Greg Drudy and Smith continue to be an incredible rhythm section, and during the moments where Hot Cross isn't caught up in their blazing speeds and complex rhythms, the listener will actually get to hear how well the two can groove and accent the songs.

"Risk Revival" has already made its presence known, and this is destined to be on more than a few people's "Best of 2007" list. Amazingly enough Hot Cross have managed to keep the core sound that made them so appealing in tact, and yet expound to new areas of innovation. Most impressive. Any fans of previous output from the band are going to be more than satisfied by this offering. If they continue making records as good as this though, it's gonna be hard not to be pleased every time they put out a new album.

A powerful album! Impressive guitars, crisp, clean and full. This is the kind of music made for musicians. I imagine some people will complain and use the term "overproduced," but I don't think this rings true. It is a great recording . I can understand the lyrics and pick up on the details of the music, and there are details! This is a great album for people who like "hardcore" and "emo" but with a more grown up approach to the music and lyrics.

Risk follows Megadeth's most commercially successful album to date, 1997's Cryptic Writings, which, with four radio hits, wasn't as obscure as the title suggests. Risk doesn't live up to its name, either. The band again teams with producer Dan Huff for a dozen safe, melodic, vaguely metallic tunes. Risk may please Megadeth fans not familiar with the aggressive, progressive, heavier metal of the band's Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? Like Metallica (Megadeth singer-guitarist Dave Mustaine was a founding member), Megadeth has risen into the mainstream. Yet the majority of Risk's songs are not instantly memorable or accessible. "Insomnia," as befitting its title, utilizes unsettling, anxiety-provoking strings to create a powerfully frenetic mood, aided by Dave Ellefson's bass, which blazes throughout (he's especially histrionic on "Time: The End"). Despite the silly title, "Prince of Darkness" is catchy and forceful. "Breadline" is sinister and melodic, while "Crush 'Em," a deliberately executed fist-pumping sports anthem, is simply innocuous. Lacking the crucial rock & roll ingredients of danger and rebellion, Risk ultimately poses no threat. --Katherine Turman

I am 22 years old and have been a metal fan since the 90s. I actually remember buying this CD in 1999 when it first came out and it was a huge disapointment. It sounded nothing like the Megadeth songs I liked. It was more like radio friendly alternative rock! In fact it sounds a lot like Load and Reload by Metallica, another metal band who softened up their style in order to cash in on the alternative rock craze just a couple of years before this. I'll bet my boots Megadeth got their idea to sell out and do an alternative album from Metallica and copied them! This is a TOTAL sellout CD and I wouldn't reccomend it to ANY metalheads. It's not even metal at all, it's just trendy (*for it's time*) alternative rock! It's almost bordering on pop! I'd rather listen to the Backstreet Boys than this cra.p!

I've read several reviews saying this album is a disappointment. I totally disagree. The production is excellent- Dann Huff is a class act. Most every song is good, and some are great, which all together makes for a very good album. Favorites would be Breadline, Wanderlust and Insomnia. I've heard the remastered version, and it sounds great, but it doesn't seem to improve on it in my view.

This album wasn't well received for one reason .......because it doesn't sound like every other Megadeth album . Is this their best album ?? No . Is it their most unique ?? Yes . I respect Mustaine for wanting to take Megadeth in a different direction . He wanted to make an album that had a distinctive sound , one that separated it self from previous albums . That shows artistic integrity , and as a fan i can certainly appreciate that . Even if you don't like how this album was executed , it is an ambitious recording that treads previously uncharted waters , with a desire to achieve something that has not been done on previous albums . I also respect Mustaine for allowing this album to develop an identity of it's own , while having no interest in pandering to the mindless metalhead fanbase . This is a worthy installment in their vast body of work .

The criticism of Megadeth's Risk seems to be that it's "techno" and doesn't hold true to the Mustaine mantra. I don't hear a major difference from Risk compared to any other Megadeth album. It's not the hard-core thrash metal of the Chris Poland era, but neither is it a disco pop album. I'm a HUGE Megadeth fan, own all of their CDs, and Risk is one of my favorites. I'd put it about 4th on my list after Killing, Peace, So Far, and Rust. Yes it's a bit on the industrial side, and some of the drums sound programmed rather than acoustic, but the songs are solid and have the distinct Dave Mustaine vibe. Standout tracks include Insomnia, Prince of Darkness, the "hit ballad" Breadline, and The Doctor Is Calling. This is an album that once I start it on track one I can't stop listening until the album is finished. Often cast as a "sell out" Risk just sounds like good heavy music to me. I often choose this album even over the much-hailed Rust In Piece. If you love Megadeth, I say don't avoid Risk because of the negative hype.

How could any band named "Megadeth" release a piece of s**t like this album. I wasnt familer with it, since its been years since I have listened to Megadeth (since "Rust in Peace days") yet I have slowly been getting back into them and picking up some albums after that period here and there, and most of them arent that good, yet this one really sucks and is a dissapointment to Metal. I guess whatever Metallica had to do, Dave had to follow (of course we all know they crossed over into Alternitive-rock in the mid to late 90's) yet at least Metallica had some OK songs from RE-Load, this one just plain sucks. This isnt worth of the Megadeth name so stay away. There are a million other albums that I would consider before "Risk" Hell I even say get Metallica's "RE-Load" before this...

...un trabajo que llevó a presentar a un Inti Illimani maduro, y fiel a sus raíces. El Inti que aprovecho las letras de Patricio Manns, el bolero, como la canción romántica y apasionada, pero a la vez triste y dolorosa como lo es misma historia de américa latina, la tan bella, la tan llorada. Inti, que integra a Efren Viera, un cubano que da percusión y vientos con sonoridad nueva al Inti, sacando la internacionalidad del grupo al ser integrantes chilenos y cubanos. Presenta la cueca del puerto, esa raíz del folklore chileno, con una integración del acordeón muy a tono. Y los instrumentales es la bella forma de ver universalidad de creación. Terminando con un homenaje a Víctor Jara, donde la canción finaliza con unos niños entonando el Himno Nacional de Chile, en mapudungú, la lengua del pueblo mapuche, pueblo originario de Chile. El recital de presentación de este disco, fue grabado en un video, que se vendió solamente en Chile. En Italia se editó como disco compacto la misma versión. La presentación fue extraordinaria, con un telón pintado, y confeti con calcomanias del disco. Fue precioso...una hermosa experiencia...como este disco, que...mejor escuchalo.

This album is definitely among their best ever! The arrangements are elegant and powerful, the melodies are beautiful and stay pleasantly with you, and the lyrics are nothing short of superb, with Patricio Manns providing poetry of love (medianoche, quien eres tu, for example) and subtle protest (el hacha, for example, is about deforestation), skillfully avoiding being corny or plain propaganda. Buy it now, sit down and enjoy!

i don't know why all ska bands changes from ska to punk pop(for example subb, goldfinger, buck on ine) punk... i love the first record, and the second: solid state 14 and skateboard music. this album [is bad],punk is boring: no guitar catchy riffs, no fast and complex bass lines and no great lyrics as in the first album.

excellent selection of music. This Ska/rock/punk/pop/ band lays down more yummy cuts! They even do their trademark first track. The first track on this one is channels on the tv being flipped through, where as in Solid State 14, its stations on the radio being flipped through. Excellent music, great fun. skank, rude kids, skank.

This was Tilas follow up sophomore effort to his classic debut album, 1988s 'Act A Fool'.

But 1990s 'At Your Own Risk' is no where near as solid as his debut. The material is a bit patchy. DJ Pooh doesnt really hook Tee up with many good beats. The album has its moments, the title track and 'Diss You' are cool, but the highlight is the classic & catchy single 'Played Lika Piano' with Ice Cube, which rides a super cool piano riff.

Overall of King Tees 4 albums he released in his heyday (1988-95) this is the weakest. His 1993 follow up 'Tha Triflin Album' was a strong album, but 1994s super cool, New York-flavoured 'IV Life' is his greatest IMO. This album is strictly for King Tee completists...

Find this. Get this. It's a very important collection of Mr. Moore's decades of outre-musique. Warped homemade pop genius at its best. 1993's Contact Risk has the distinction of being R Stevie's premier US CD compilation, containing such future faves as "Play Myself Some Music" and "Alecia." Ooooh, this is a damn stunning piece of plastic.
