Customer Reviews:
Excellent package, shocking production .......2006-01-26
I'm not a fan of live albums, never have been, so my hopes weren't high. The production is terrible: you can hardly make out any guitar or keyboards - sometimes you can't even hear the drums (speaking of drums the bass drum sounds awful). On some tracks the guitar is a little louder, at the expense of everything else. I know it's a live album so everything won't be studio perfect, but I like to hear what I'm listening to (hell, if they could produce the ultimate live album back in 1985, which IMHO is Iron Maiden Live After Death, they could do it in this era of 'technology').
Likes: Queen of Winter Throned, The Forest Whispers My Name, Born in a Burial Gown, Nocturnal Supremacy, From the Cradle... remix (hey, it's cool driving music), Dani talking nonsense.
Dislikes: The drummer screwing up the intro to Cruelty bought thee Orchids, All the other remixes, the video for No Time To Cry (a crap song), the drum sound, the guitar sound etc.
Verdict: Buy it to complete your Cradle collection. DO NOT (I REPEAT, DO NOT!) buy this an intro to Cradle's music. Buy The Principle of Evil Made Flesh,Vempire (really get this one), Dusk and Her Embrace and don't forget Cruely and the Beast.
Worst live album, and most dishonest release for many years to come.......2006-01-11
Gotta love the irony when you read the pretentious comments of some paid reviewer on the fancy booklet that comes with this shameful release. He goes on about how Cradle Of Filth doesn't resort to using cheap commercial tactics and I quote; as he so heroically puts it... "taking a breather from the album-tour-album-tour treadmill" It that were true, then what exactly are tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, & 7 on disc II? If not mediocre and shoddy songs from other albums!?!
The biggest insult however is when this Tom Lawson, quotes Judas Priest, Napalm Death and Black Sabbath rambling on heavy metal as if the Cradle of Filth of then, and today had ANYTHING to do with REAL metal, `cause correct me if I'm wrong, but there are some pretty dreadful technoish influences in this terrible record and in Cradle's discography in general, right up from Cruelty & The Beast. See, according to Dani Filth, it was all due to carcinogen agents in their previous "Music For Nations" label, that forced them into taking different directions and yielding a malignant cancer to their sound, reason for which they opened; AbraCadaver, to not only do their thing, uncorrupted by ethereal forces, but to take, and I quote; "fellow bands under their wing". However if such motives were true, then why are we still hearing crap like: "The Polished Coffin Mix", "Under Martian Rule Mix", "Sisters of No Mercy Mix", "Lycanthropy Mix", Stripped To The Bone Mix", "Return To The Sabbat Mix", "Red October Mix", "Dance Macabre", "The Cruci-Fiction Mix"... the list is endless and enough to palpably say Cradle of Filth are NOT metal, or least not in any decent form. They've evolved into rancid pinups of Boy George look a-likes that exhibit vampiric trends, yet Dracula never looked anything like you Goth f*cks do today.
The only decent song on disc II, is that of "The Fire Still Burns" as for the live session on disc I; it's OK, but not great like most reviewers here seem to think it is. Dani's voice isn't all that impressive live. It really isn't, for one he can't do a convincing dark and potent growl like other more talented vocalists in Death and Black metal can, plus the whole thing with swearing at the audience comes off as being a bit silly. A silly façade Cradle Of Filth is well-renown for nowadays.
The only real forte on this live set, are the guitars and even those fail being out of tune in some passages (Dusk & Her Embrace for instance is a HUGE disappointment) "From The Cradle To Enslave" is the worst live performance here, perhaps this is due to Adrian being somewhat handicapped in the drumming department giving the band an amateur and annoying slow paced sound. "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" sounds nothing like it did with Nick Barker in it!! Just horrible!
All in all, it's a mediocre performance and a terrible album as a whole. Stick to their first 3 records and their first EP.
The first Cradle's official live CD.......2005-11-24
This was the first CD I bought from Cradle Of Filth. This double album is a really great purchase for know all you need to know about Cradle Of Filth's past. The first CD is a recording from the band's live gig in april 2001 in Rock City, Nottingham. While the second CD is a compilation of remixes, soundcheck recordings and two cover songs. The artwork of the booklet is great and contains a text written by a guy who was in that live performance. The second CD contains a video for the song No Time To Cry, and man, the video is truely haunting (and includes brief apearances of The Principle Of evil Made Flesh and Vempire's covers). there are wallpapers, a toolbar and the Quicktime instalation (which allows you to watch the video).
Coming to the first CD again, it opens with an instrumental intro named The Ceremony Opens. After the intro, the songs set in this way: Lord Abortion, Ebony Dressed For Sunset, The Forest Whispers My Name, Cthulhu Dawn, Dusk And Her Embrace, The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh, Cruelty Brought thee Orchids, Her Ghost In The Fog, Summer Dying Fast. After these tracks, an instrumental interlude sets, it's from the Midian album, and it's titled Creatures That Kissed In Cold Mirrors(this interlude includes the Satanic Mantra part at the end). And after this instrumental, comes the two last songs, From The Cradle To Enslave and Queen Of Winter, Throned. Resuming all, this first Cd features songs from The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh(1994) to Midian(2000).
The second Cd begins with the video for No Time To Cry. The first song is the single from the EP Bitter Suites To Succubi, Born In A Burial Gown, one of my favorite tracks. After that, comes the cover of Sisters Of Mercy's No Time To Cry ( the version included here is the same as the video, the "Sisters Of No Mercy Mix"). And then, the soundcheck recording of one of the masterpieces of Dusk...And Her Embrace, Funeral In Carpathia, this time with some beautiful female vocals performed by the Goddess of Cradle Of Filth, the lovely Sarah Jezebel Deva.
The track 4 is the "orgasmic" instrumental Deleted Scenes Of A Snuff Princess(previously included in the promo CD of No Time To Cry). That's not my favorite song, but I really enjoy it,man!!!...I'm not made of stone!!!...when I hear it, I imagine a gothic siren caressing her warm c... (oops..sorry).
After that track, comes one treasure, the original demo(n) version of Scorched Earth Erotica. Thanks Cradle Of Filth for include it here.
The track 6 is my absolute favorite of this second CD, the dark haunting Nocturnal Supremacy(soundcheck recording). Featuring really amazing lyrics, and more beautiful vocals of my lovely Sarah. The middle of this song is simply astonishing.
After this, comes another instrumental From The Cradle To Enslave(under Martian rule mix). That's very rare and strange song that only features Dani Filth's "this is the end of everything".
The last track is the cover of Twisted Sisters's song The Fire Still Burns; that I think Cradle's version is a million times better. But it's no rare cos I don't like hard rock, only extreme Death/Black metal.
Well, if you're a Cradle Of Filth fan as me, and you're intersted in this jewel, you should get it as possible as you can. I sugget you to buy Dusk...And Her Embrace and Cruelty And The Beast too, be Filthy, man, and remeber:
Cradle Of Filth will rule FOREVER and EVER.
Great cd.......2005-08-19
i am a fan of live cds but i always find the same problem with them and thats the quallity. as a frequent buyer of cds i like to have alot sound good mainly the quallity. its dissapointing if the cd itself is really good but the sound quallity sucks. but when i bought this cd there was not one flaw with it. you could hear every thing perfectly. first track they play is the song Lord Abortion off the Midian album and at the time that was there newest cd as of going to release Bitter Suites to Succubi. Lord Abortion was really well done but as many times as i listened to Midian i wanted to hear something different (not the bands fault). the next track is a shocker to me that they even play this stuff if was off the Vempire Ep song was "Ebony Dressed for Sunset" and this is when i was really excited about the cd cause just the fact that they play something this rare makes me happy, so the way Sarah Jezebel Deva and Dani Filth go back and forth with the lyrics made me umm listen to that track again :P. after that they play another song off of Vempire and now the cd has already satisfied me, "The Forest Whispers my Name" one of my favorite Cradle songs was perfectly executed by the band live and it sounded so crisp and well played. The Principle of Evil Made Flesh was next and once again a great job, it was nice to see how Martin did the keyboards on this song cause he was not in the band when the song was originally made. the next track was Dusk and Her Embrace. this made me jump for joy hearing this it was just so well played cause that too is another favorite of mine. Cthulhu Dawn was good but such as Lord Aboriton i just wanted to hear something different besides Midian material, although i do realize they were playing alot of Midian cause it was there latest release. a little bit more Midian was played and a track from Cruelty and the Beast which was "Cruelty Brought thee Orchids" was played and those were really good. also From the Cradle to Enslave, not much to say about that one besides it rocked. and the closing track which was another from Vempire was Queen of Winter Throned. and the only problem i had with that song was that it was missing its intro but still great. so overall the cd was great, a couple things i loved and a couple things id change. things i would change is the fact that there is only one song from Dusk and alot of fans say that Dusk is there best so they should of had more. a thing i loved was the fact that they played 3 songs from Vempire which is my 2nd favorite Cradle cd.
Disc 2 is worth listening to maybe once but mainly for the soundcheck versions of "Funeral in Carpathia" and Nocturnal Supremacy. those were awesome but the techno style remixes i wasnt a fan of really cause i just didnt see any point to them. so if you liked the cd then you would love the dvd. its called "Heavy, left handed and candid" and its the same exact thing as this cd only its a visual live set list. you get to see Dani act out what he was saying and play with the crowd and you get extras. this cd gets 4 stars. half a star was deducted for the lack of Dusk and her embrace songs and half a star was deducted from the techno songs on disc 2.
Better here than when i seen them........2005-05-19
Contrary to some moronic kids belief this is NOT a class on religion. But if you really want to get technical Satanism is based on Carnality and force of human nature hence it dates back to the days of the cavemen.Anyways about this cd,I seen COF on their midian tour and was very dissapointed the sound was shotty, the show was short, and they didnty play anything from the vempire EP.Now had i got this show i would have been quite alot more impressed. The sound is good,The Setlist is great and The Album does have a sence of being there even if you werent. The bonus disc does have some good stuff worth checking out as well,The soundchecks in particular.
