4 out of 5 stars one of their best ideas.......2007-08-01

This is one of my favorite albums by Korn. It brings you back to the first sound of korn. It is much like their frist self titled album and "Life is Peachy". After "Life is Peachy" the band seemed to move in different directions and I thought it was awesome how they made an album that went to their old sound. I love all their albums, but sometimes people (including me) need reminding that Korn hasn't changed totally. I love the bass in this album, it sticks out alot and is really heavy. Fieldy did a great job with his part. I also like how Jonathan seemed to roar and snarl like he's even more pissed then usual. I think Korn should write music how they like, but they should every once and a while go make an album like this one and "Life is Peachy" and their first self titled album.

5 out of 5 stars Yesssss.......2007-05-13

This is a super sweet KoRn album. Thank God they got away from the hip-hop sounding stuff and focused on pure rock in this one.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF KORNS BEST ALBUMS.......2007-04-10

I think this is one of their best albums. It seems that their first two albums were more metal/nu metal and that's how I like Korn to be most of the time. ISSUES, UNTOUCHABLES, and SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE were albums that were very much alike. The band messed around with special effects with the guitars and I like that stuff, but I like the other style a little better. FOLLOW THE LEADER was an album that was unique and had it's own style. I like their self titled album, LIFE IS PEACHY and TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR. This album was one of my favorites because I like how it brings back their older style. Another thing about this album that I liked was the bass in this album. It really stood out in a way that it never did before in this band. So this one def one of my favorites by Korn and I think the band needs to do more styles like this :)

5 out of 5 stars Korn's Return to Form!!.......2007-03-08

This is Korn's most underrated album. The real reason it didn't do better is that many Korn fans had fallen off by then. Untouchables was not an album many could listen to straight through.

With Take A Look In The Mirror, the boys tried to tap into what made them big early on...and they greatly succeed. This album is dark and full of energy. Even the packaging is reminiscent of the early days.

"Right Now" is a perfect lead-off track. It's full of energy and reminds me of "good god". "Break Some Off" is the same way.

"Counting on Me" slows things down a bit, but is such a great song. Nice and dark. Even the collab with Nas is tight. Many diss because they don't like rap, but "Play Me" is a hard track. The chorus says it all.

"Alive" is from their early days, and is what "Need To" was supposed to be on their first album. Probably my favorite song on here.

"Y'all want a single" is a great diss to the suits who wanted Korn to write a single. Do yourself a favor and check out the video.

"When Will this end" is a great close to a great album. I only wish they would have kept their signature sound. They went pretty soft on See You on the Other Side. This is the only "must buy" from Korn after Issues.

1 out of 5 stars How can you people like this?.......2006-12-24

Ok, I have every Korn album. I love them all but after Untouchables, they have gone downhill. Their music sucks. They think their metal but all they do is just scream and bitch. Johnathan can't even scream so why try? It just sucks. Sure there are about 2-3 good songs on here but thats all. This album and SYOTOS suck really bad. Listen to the old Korn, thats much better.

4 out of 5 stars Heavy Korn has resurfaced........2007-05-31

This was a step back to "Follow the Leader" days. Some of their heaviest stuff is on this album. "Right Now" may be the angriest song they have ever made. "Did My Time" is one of my favorite Korn songs. "Y'all Want A Single" is a fun, f-bomb flinging romp. "Play Me" is a rap-rock masterpiece. If you liked their early music, this should help satisfy your appetite for heavy Korn music. I hope their new one (Summer '07) is heavier too.

5 out of 5 stars Add to your collection.......2007-01-12

If you are a korn fan then you must add this to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars F*ck the haters.......2006-06-04

Wow...seems a lot of people hate this album. It also seems that a lot of people are just plain stupid :-P

Me personally, I love this album. I'm listening to it now in fact. It's more "KoRn" sounding than Untouchables was, and harder than Untouchables was too.

Funny story behind "Y'all Want a Single?". The producer (or one of the big wigs, whichever)wanted Korn to make a single for the album so they could get some air-play. Korn said FU. They wanted the single done anyway. Korn still didn't feel the need for it. But in the end, Korn said "Fine. We'll make your stupid single." so the made that song. lol the big wigs were like "We can't use this! Too many swears!" and Korn said tough rocks buddy, there's your single.
Funny stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air or last gasp?.......2006-05-08

First off, this is one of my favorite Korn albums, behind Issues and Korn self-titled. That doesn't mean that I don't like their other albums, but of all the albums they have come out with, this is one of their most truthful. Untouchables was good in its own way, and tried to be depressing, but the voice synthesizers, and over-production just made it feel phony. This album is by no stretch of the imagination deep or thought-provoking, but its just plain enjoyable heavy metal. This album is, like many reviewers have already said, the anti-Untouchables. Almost every song on here is easy to play onstage, and sure to get the mosh-pits going. To the people who give this album bad grades because they thought it wasn't deep enough, then you aren't a true Korn fan. If Korn remade the same album over and over, you wouldn't even be able to buy it, because they would have faded out long ago. I also must say that this is the album that got me into Korn. A friend was giving away some of her cd's and gave me this, and once I heard Lets Do This Now, I knew I wanted to be a fan. It didn't get too many buyers, mostly because it was self-produced, and for me that makes it all the more easy to appreciate. They haven't recorded an album this heavy and kickass since Korn st and Life is Peachy, when they were still wearing Adidas outfits, and its a breath of fresh air. It is debatable whether its a breath of fresh air or Korn's last gasp, as for me, after hearing See You On The Other Side, im still torn. I am almost sure that they will never record anything this heavy again. This is also Brian Welch's last album with Korn, and its nice to see he went out in such a nice fashion; his guitar work on here is no-holds-barred heavy, which is nice after Untouchables, which wasn't his or Munky's heaviest record, to say the least. I can't see how any Korn fan can't appreciate this record, at least the real ones, the ones who loved Korn self-titled. Now to the song ratings.

1 Right Now: 9/10 Right from the start you know what kind of record this is going to be, and unlike the mis-leading Here to Stay on Untouchables, it stays this way. An aggressive, hate-filled song.

2 Break Some Off: 9/10 Another aggressive track, with some more screaming curtesy of Mr. Jonathan Davis. Unlike its predecessor, there is some melody here. A short song, so it isn't going to out-stay its welcome, which is true of the whole record. People complaining about this albums shortness, need to stop and think; this is a heavy record, whithout too much thought, too go on for too long would be to get grating.

3 Counting on Me: 7/10 Not bad, but I usually skip it. A bit emotionally heavy, dark, but sort of forgettable.

4 Here it Comes Again: 9/10 At first I didn't like this track, but it has grown on me to become one of my favs on here. It's a mix of singing and screaming, but unlike Break Some Off, its mostly melodic. A hidden gem on this album.

5 Deep Inside: 7/10 Sorry, but unlike most people, I don't really dig this track too much. Bit too repetitive, and the emotion doesn't feel genuine here. Also, notice how most of the emotional songs on here haven't gotten great ratings? Its because this isn't meant to be emotional album, and any emotion on here feels out of place.

6 Did My Time: 9/10 Of course, there ARE exceptions:) A gem of a song, not one of their best, as many reviewers here would have you believe, but still really good. A dark, depressing, emotional song, with amazing guitars on it to boot.

7 Everything I've Known: 7/10 A weird song, but not in a good way. I can't believe that they made this song a single. There are so many better songs on here. The vocals are kind of interesting, and the structure is kind of unique, but doesn't hold my attention, and I doubt it will hold yours.

8 Play Me: 7/10 This is kind of the laggy part of the album, and it shows. I normally hate rap, but for some reason I don't hate this song as I should. I guess its just the novelty of hearing this dude rapping over heavy metal. Also the first rappy song since Follow the Leader, and I don't mind that one bit.

9 Alive: 8/10 A classic Korn song, but again, doesn't hold my attention much. It was written before Korn self-titled came out, and makes you wonder what it would have sounded back then.

10 Lets Do This Now: 10/10 Arguably the best song on the album, but maybe I am biased, since ever since I heard this song I have wanted to own every Korn album. The best fight song I have ever heard (sorry Marilyn Manson). It is so catchy, and I don't know why they didn't make it a single, because it doesn't really have too many swears, would have made a better single than Everything I've Known, thats for sure. The chorus is one of the best Korn has ever done, up there with Ball Tongue, Daddy, Good God, Seed, Make Me Bad, and Here To Stay. Man, I don't understand how anybody CAN'T like this song.

11 Im Done: 8/10 This song has warmed up to me a bit, but it still isn't all that great. Maybe its because its the sandwhich song between Lets Do This Now and Ya'll Want a Single, but I, and probably you, will want to be skipping this one.

12 Y'All Want a Single: 9/10 When I first heard this song I thought it was a joke, like K@#*%!, but it has meaning. You will have to watch the video, the un-cencsored version if you can, and you will see what I am talking about. If you can't find the video without the full lyrics, don't bother, its too annoying listening to Suck That! over and over again.

Overall, this will be remembered as one of Korn's best records, especially now that they have gone in a totally different direction with SYOTOS, Korn fans who initially bashed this record might appreciate it that much more, because hardcore albums like this by Nu Metal bands are becoming rarer by the minute.

Overall rating 90/100

Recommended.

2 out of 5 stars "Take a Look in the Mirror" -- Waste of a CD.......2006-03-18

Although I'm not a die-hard fan of Korn, I like a lot of their music. This CD, however, was TERRIBLE! A couple of songs were alright but IT ALL SOUNDS THE EXACT SAME!!! Is that even legal to produce a CD like that? Anyone with a brain would skip this CD, and go buy a case of beer with the money they would save. If you want to hear one or two of the songs, get the greatest hits... you'll be better off that way.

5 out of 5 stars Awsome.......2005-07-21

Though I got the Clean version of this CD because I stupidly didn't look at the cover but even if I did, I wouldn't care. This Album was the best of all albums. I couldn't sleep without having to listen to the whole album. Even now, I can't stop listening to it.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as 'Untouchables'.......2005-01-27

Humanity gets seperated into 3 groups when it comes to KoRn; #1. The People That Love them to death and really relate to Davis' hopeless lyrics, #2. The People (like me) who really don't like the lyrics, but love the sound of the band, and #3. The People who just hate (no pun intended) their of style of hate-filled nu/rap metal.

I really don't like buying a 'Clean' version of a cd, only to pop it in my compact CD player with headphones, and still be able to hear the cuss. I WANT THE CUSS TO BE SO WARPED THAT YOU HAVE LITTLE TO NO CLUE WHAT IS BEING SAID. KoRn's previous 'Clean' versions of their albums were edited horribly, thanks to Sound Forge I was able to fix that myself. 'Take A Look In The Mirror' has been edited a little better than the other albums, but still not as good as I would have done it. The actual musical is one step lower than 'Untouchables' in my opinion. And Jonathan tends to use deep growls more this time around. I miss the creepy little child voice he uses all the time. I give the cd 4 stars.

Cussing on a cd just shows how imature some people really are. Our English language has hundreds of other words we can use besides swears. It's about being a better person, and letting go of past hurts. Davis still seems to complain about his difficult childhood on here, when will he get over it and write about something else? Something more interesting? I hope he finds peace someday soon and his torture stops.

2 out of 5 stars BOO!.......2004-06-01

I got this as a gift from a friend and unfortunately they gave me the clean version. Like my favorite song on this cd is ya'll want a single, but i hate listening to it on this cd. They bleep out about every word so it sounds like J.D is just screaming jibberish. The only really good song on this cd is Did My Time which can be heard on the new tomb raider movie. Next time i hope one of my friends gives me the real version cause this one is just crap!

5 out of 5 stars SWEET.......2004-05-14

I just bought this cd today ive only listened to like 3 songs and their awsome! You totally have to l;ike heavy metal. I love it its awsome!

Some People may think that the clean version sucks but guess what? IT DOESNT theres no huge cut out sentences or anything and its only the songs that count. Anyway cd is kool! I recommend this cd to kids like me who cant listen to cds that have tons and tons of cussing in them (so far it seems there isnt a lot of cussing in it, at least not like 50 cent or any rapper or anything) NICE CD!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Please Buy The PA Version.......2003-11-28

"One", the Metallica cover, is live. I usually wait til I have a cd to review it. And I have it and it is good. Very different from other stuff but moving in a positive direction. The true test of a musician's talent is their ability to change. My favorite track is "y'all want a single". This album is a testament to korn ability to stick around. Very good CD purchase it now.

5 out of 5 stars Korn's best cd since self titled, "KoRn".......2003-11-21

This cd, by far is the best Korn cd available. It's their new one entitled "Take a Look in the Mirror" It's not yet available as it is going to be released on Nov.21st, and it's only Nov.20th. But, I have heard it, because I downloaded it in advance about 3 weeks ago. Still, I will purchase it, So don't give me any guff about downloading and blah blah..I've reserved a copy of it and I will be BUYING it (special edition version) tomorrow.
This cd, contains 14 tracks, the 2 singles, Right Now, and Did My Time, and then other great songs. One, including my personal favorite, the song "One" which is a Metallica cover, only, this one is a STUDIO VERSION, not a LIVE version like the one heard on the DMT single.
If you liked the cd single for "Did My Time", as a teaser for this album, you'll LOVE the real deal "Take a Look in the Mirror" It is by far the best Korn cd since their very first self titled one, It goes back to the hardcore days of "heavy."

      3 out of 5 stars Electric Scotto.......2002-09-25

I like much of Scotto's artistry, but this is just not her cup of tea. Her high notes sound like they are plugged into an electric socket! AHHHHH!!!... Even her usual, wonderful word painting is not there. Her Vien's at the end of the garden scene are worse than the most mushy mouthed Sutherland (who could at least produce beautiful sounds). Get the Sony arias disc with Renata Scotto, which, oddly enough, shows her in much better and firmer voice, even though it was recorded later.

Ghiaurov is magnificent, as always and Kraus provides more elegant support than many of his later recordings.
If you want a verismo-like performance, get the recording with Freni (awesome......the largest voiced Margie on record). Domingo is dramatic, beautiful, if without a great high C. The final trio is SO dramatic. Hmmmm, what to buy?

5 out of 5 stars Unique Kraus in exceptional Faust.......2000-06-22

One of the aspects that made of Alfredo Kraus an exceptional singer was the care with which he chose the roles that resulted most adequate to his voice and temper. Faust was one of these paradigmatic roles, but unfortunatelly he never made a studio recording of this opera. The Tokio live recording of 1973 is thus an exceptional substitute and probably the only chance to enjoy the master's full Faust. By the time of this recording, he was at the highest point of his carreer, and we may appreciate here his precise technique, the delicacy of this style and the adequacy of his voice for the French repertoire. His 'Salut, demeure ... ' is a masterclass of singing. Ghiaurov follows the tradition of the Russian and Bulgarian basses and composes an overacted but vocally splendid Mephistophèles. He was also at the highest point of his carreer. Renata Scotto was an irregular soprano, but her Margheritte is excellent (probably only surpassed on records by Victoria de los Angeles in this role). Ethuin's direction is agile, perhaps too rapid in the choirs. The quality of the sound is good, and the price is astonishingly low. The complete recording of the Tokio version is rare and very difficult to get, so this selection of highlights is an alternative to consider seriously. Given the low price of this CD, it is a must for any opera lover and Kraus fan.
