Keiko Matsui is Awesome! .......2005-09-29
This is the first Keiko Matsui cd that I've purchased. She is an incredible artist and so are the other musicians who collaborated on this cd.
A great mix of music.......2000-03-30
This is Keiko's 3rd release. I think it is better than her first two. There are some wonderful songs on it, and anyone wishing to obtain lots of her music should definitely buy this CD. I rate it about in the middle group of all of her CDs. I gave it 4 stars, but would like to give it 4 1/2 stars if available. For those only experimenting with her music, half of the songs on the CD, "The Keiko Matsui Collection" are from "No Borders". So try buying "Collection" to get a sample of the best songs from "Borders".
Keiko Matsui.......2000-02-25
I got this CD for a friend as a gift. She likes it but not too crazy about it. Brain Forst, try Full Moon and the Shrine. It's beautiful.
Overproduced.......2000-01-13
I became an instant Keiko Matsui fan when I saw her perform on a Session at West 54th Street on public television. Soon after, I purchased this CD; after all, four reviewers give it 5 stars. Big mistake. This CD sounds like Kenny G with a better keyboard artist. OK if you like Kenny G. I don't. Can anyone point me to a Keiko Matsui CD that strips away all the reverberating horns and hi-tech percussion noise?
Great sounds.......1999-11-09
I love the track "Kappa" (water elf) it reminds me of some chinese fairy tales movies. Too bad that in Malaysia there's hardly any promotion of her albulms like Kenny G.

Customer Reviews:
A Unique Musician.......2004-06-15
When I first bought this album,I just couldn't get over the sound. It's definetly something out of the ordinary.Jane Siberry is a very talented performer with her own special and unique style.I remember hearing the short version of Mimi On The Beach on the radio a few times back in 1984,and I loved it.Then I recall seeing the video of the full length version of the song on TV.I love the full length version even more. There is not a dull moment on this album.Every song is very entertaining.I even have an aunt who lives near Jane Siberry in Toronto. They're even in the same fitness club. What a small world!
An Ever Changing Artist.......2004-02-10
Having been a Jane fan since 1985 (with the US release of "No Border Here"), this is still one of her best collections. It carries the purity of her early days along with the complexity that Jane retains today. "Map of the World (Part I)" is so ethereal, layered with such gossamer vocals. "I Muse Aloud" is about those moments when being in love expands to being in love with the whole world in an innocent way and the lover is seem through blinders... yet as often occurs when the blinders are removed the relationship ends and the two artists no longer work together. Don't expect any two Jane CD's to have a similar sound, you will be very disappointed.
Men & Women, listen to..........2003-10-22
"I Muse Aloud," its amazing lyrics, in apparent sincerity and with no irony. I absolutely so appreciate the freedom of the message and attitude here. With her sweet smile all the while, she tells of how she fills her guy up with so much love that he naturaly wants to share it with the other women he's around. Love *is* everything, isn't it, and it doesn't deplete with the sharing, but grows. The video is also very fun. This song sold me on Jane Siberry.
Sonic Poetry.......2002-12-02
The artist's singular vision manifests here in nine varied and textured songs, of which my favorites are Dancing Class with its snatch of conversation (in German and English) in the middle, Follow Me, a fast rousing song with cinematic images, the complex little symphony called Mimi On The Beach, and the atmospheric Map Of The World (Part 1). There's a cinematic quality to the music - the songs are like crafted sonic poems but no less warm and moving for that. Siberry's talent is to communicate with the higher regions of the soul - her best songs all have a spiritual resonance. This may not be considered her best by the fans, but it deserves five stars for the above-mentioned classics. It's my favorite Siberry album, along with When I Was A Boy and The Speckless Sky. Truly timeless music and an uplifting listening experience.
A new voice dazzles.......1998-09-01
In all honesty, I have to admit that I heard "The Speckless Sky" (her 3rd release) before I went back and discovered this release. No Borders has the same attributes of Speckless and is in many ways it's little sister. Still, a stunning peice of at time ethereal new wave. In line with Lene Lovich cum Kate Bush. This is to Jane Siberry's canon, what Cowgirl With a Larait is to kd lang's. From the whimsical lyric-poetry of Waitress to the now trademark heart in your throat simple balladry of You Don't Need..this is the groundwork that all serious Jane fans should experience.

We've Heard This Before..........2007-01-01
What I disapprove most about James Horner is that he borrows from the works of others or reuses his previous scores (Titanic and Deep Impact, anyone?) for inspiration for his newest scores. As for this soundtrack, James Horner completely ripped the title score "Ethiopia, Pt.1" from The Prayer Cycle's "Movement 6: Innocence" which featured the vocals of Salif Keita and Alanis Morissette and was showcased during the opening credits of "The Affair of the Necklace". If you listen to the two, there's almost not a single bit of difference - except that the latter is far better.
As for the soundtrack, its good - I just disapprove of the uncanny resemblance of this piece of work with already previously released works from other artist's.
a THRILL to listen to! .......2005-05-20
This soundtrack is a very moving, blood curdling thing to steep yourself in. It brings to life the drama, aching sadness, anger, and deep love that are all present in the film.
I HIGHLY recommend the film.
The love story is a love story.
The REAL story is the one of the people of Africa, Cambodia, and all the other third worlds. They are the ones we should really be watching the movie for.
Most beautiful and moving...........2005-02-10
...not only is the movie very specil but the soundtrack by James Horner is amazingly beautiful and moving! the title-melody is short but 'pregnant' with emotion!
a tremendously inspiring and great movie with a very fitting and beautiful score!
Above average score from Horner.......2004-06-24
This along with the Missing was Horners best from 2003.
The synths although dated worked really well in establishing the otherworldly feeling and atmosphere. The film of course while having the best intentions just didn't click for me. I certainly didn't feel that the films foreign footage was exploitative, no it gave us a good look at the suffering of those worldwide from famine and war. The best music that James has written has been for films by Martin Campbell, Edward Zwick, and Ron Howard. These are the type of events we should look more forward to. But alas James won't be scoring Cinderella Man, a Ron Howard film, which composer Thomas Newman is attached to. But that probably won't be a bad thing since Thomas Newman is great too.
Har chee To bekhia.......2004-03-03
It wasen't as well as other James Horner's works but totally was good

Customer Reviews:
Genius.......2003-12-23
This album feels like a glimpse inside the mind and soul of someone who is part stranger, part friend, and part mirror. Imaginary Johnny combines music with sensitive vocals and thoughtful lyrics to gently illustrate moments and emotions that seem strangely familiar. Every track is sing-along-able, and there is no low spot to the album. "I Forgot My Wallet" is my personal favorite track. The repeated, impassioned declaration of "I don't ever want to need anyone that much again" is a serious emotional punch. Basically, this is genius. I am excitedly awaiting his next effort. I enjoyed this CD the first time I heard it, and it only gets better and better with further listening. It has quickly become one of my all-time favorites, and I absolutely recommend it. Buy this CD; you will not regret it.
Best $ ever spent.......2003-08-27
I am pretty careful with my money, seeing as how $ is an hour of work at my mundane job, but I have never been happier with my spending. Imaginary Johnny combines lyrics that pour out true emotion with beats that keep your head nodding. The music is different from anything I have heard before, but there is something familiar about it all. I have no doubts that anyone who likes music, will love this.
New and improved.......2003-08-27
I am constantly keeping my ears open for new, fresh, good music, and this is a gem. It is music that means something, brings out emotion, and the lyrics convey true feeling to the listener. This CD arrived at my house almost two weeks ago, and it has yet to come out of my player. I hear something new every time I listen to a song, and I love it. I hope that Imaginary Johnny is in actuality a real being, because I want more.
New Music Brings a Breath of Fresh Air.......2003-08-05
Great musicians are getting harder to find, especially the ones that can create the whole package themselves. This CD brings together the sounds of independant rock, studio beats, and Lennonesque vocals, along with innovative & creative lyrics. This album is a modern showcase of classic music. Each track creates new musical atmospheres and demonstrates what true musicianship is. I highly recommend this CD to whoever enjoys fresh new artists and their musical ideas.
