4 out of 5 stars underrated.......2007-07-30

This is a really good album but its just underrated. Its not like Highway To Hell or Back In Black but its still damn good. If you are an AC/DC fan who doesn't blindly hate
Brian Johnson for horrible reasons than get this album.

3 out of 5 stars ehh.......2007-07-19

I expected this to be a classic album, but I ended up saying "ehh". This album has it's moments Don't get me wrong but it is nowhere in the relm of albums like: "Back In Black" or "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You). This is not AC/DC at there best but it has a couple cuts like "Rising power" And Nervous shakedown". But,the rest gives you a sense of medeocrody, maybe the self production could be a factor. But, they set out for a goal and they accomplished it; make a simple rock n' roll album, with no bells, and no cannons.

Heres an overview:

1.Rising Power- Classic, Ac/dc at there best. With Brian's screaming and Angus's Vibrato solo, not to meantion the great riff. 5/5

2. This House Is On Fire- Cool song not as good as "Rising Power" but it gets close. 5/5

3. Flick Of The Switch- Ahh, sweet tittle track, there's nothing else like it. The riff is good, awesome solo by Angus, and Malcoms Rhythm is good too. 4.5/5

4. Nervous Shakedown: This is my pick for best of the album. It has good lyrics, which is important in a song like this, and The solo in this song is one of my all time favorites by Angus, Ever!!! 5/5

5. Landslide- This song gets your heart pounding! The riff in the begining reminds me of "Night Of The Long Knives", but once the drums hit, it's off. Rappid speed and energy keep this track going. It's a good song. 4/5

6. Guns For Hire- In the begining it's just Angus's guitar going really fast, then the song starts. It's an okay song but it dosen't match up to the early tracks. It gets repetitive and I loose interest. 3.5/5

7. Deep In The Hole- Not very good just filler in my opinion. It's basically "Nervous Shakedown" But faster. 3/5

8. Bedlam In Belgium- I like the verses but the chorus is weak and repeitive. Angus's solo is what keeps me interested. 4/5

9. Badlands- This is where things go from bad to whorse, the riff is boring and the song ends up nowhere. 3/5

10. Brain Shake- The opening riff sounds supprizingly good. But then it just gets bland, this is like a combination of every bad song on this cd. 3/5

So you see AC/DC went back to there roots with this on, Maybe it was best to leave them in the ground- Chuck

3 out of 5 stars A Disappointment After Consisstant Greatness.......2007-01-25

I love Ac/Dc...they are one of my favorite bands but this release was a disappointment...It is not horrible, and by any other band's standards it rocks with the best of 'em...but following Highway To Hell,Back In Black, and For Those About To Rock anyone is bound to lose a little artistic steam...
you would never know it from the opening track 'Rising Power' which is a classic that could have been on 'Back In Black' it's really that good...'This House Is On Fire' follows and is more power in your face rock and roll that they are known for...'FLick Of The Switch' comes after that...this is another classic, great hooks, great rocking tune..'Nervous Shakedown' follows and is another great tune...but what happens after that? The rest of the songs sound like they just ran out of ideas.Don't get me wrong,it's still rock at some of it's finest..but the memorable hooks are just not there for the rest of the album...it is a similar problem they faced with 'For Those About To Rock' but there were enough fantastic classic tunes on that release to carry the weaker songs...this one just feels weighted down and dare I say slightly boring...
I've said before and I'll say it here, even Ac/Dc at their worst is better then 90 percent of all bands at their best...but definitely start with Highway To Hell and Back In Black, then move on to Dirty Deeds and For Those About To Rock...then get the rest of the catalog...this one is a must have for all Ac/Dc fans...Rising power alone makes it worthwhile!

The Upside - pretty good production,Angus,Brian and the rest of the band are playing great as always,Rising Power and Flick of The Switch are 2 of the bands best songs...very consisstant hard rocking tunes

The Downside - The memorable hooks are gone during the second half...The begining is all power and fury and you're left wondering what happened

The Bottom Line - Must have rock and roll for all Ac/Dc fans...but to those that are not familiar you might get bored...Start with the classics Highway To Hell and Back In Black...but it is a worthy addition to any rock fan's collection...donutman says so!!!

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME ALBUM!.......2007-01-16

I am an ACDC fan down to the core and this album has great soundtracks! I absolutely LOVE it! I don't care if there is someone who doesn't like it because if they don't then they aren't a true fan. If you love ACDC as much as I do, and you want to expand your CD collection. This is a definet MUST HAVE! Flick of the Switch is just plain AWESOME! My favorite song is Nervous Shakedown!! ACDC ROCKS!!

5 out of 5 stars This Is The Best AC/DC Album...........Period !!!!!!.......2006-09-29

I own each and every one of AC/DC's albums and I like this one the best.
Sure Back In Black has a few Great songs and the rest are Good along with Highway To Hell etc. But try some of the other albums most exceed the popular ones 10 to 1 like Flick of The Switch. So once again this is my favorite then I would have to say Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.
Every AC/DC album is great but this one is awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Third best they've done..........2007-03-04

Great hooks on this album.

It was probably less successful commercially because it's sonically identical to Back in Black and For this About to Rock; the band started to sound repetitive. But as it stands alone, Flick of the Switch has some super riffs, chord sequences and that cool guitar syncopation that defines AC/DC. Plus the Young bro's guitar tone is as great as ever and Johnson's voice is at full wack.

My second favourite with Johnson after Back in Black, with only Powerage being better from the Scott era. Overall, I reckon "Flick" is at least as good or better than the much more popular "Highway to Hell", "Let there be Rock" and "Dirty Deeds".

4 out of 5 stars really solid--doesn't reach classic status, but comes pretty close.......2005-09-13

Originally released in August of 1983, "Flick of the Switch" is a damn fine AC/DC record, and if you love the band, I really can't understand not digging it.

In the liner notes for the 2003 remastered version of "Flick...", Malcolm Young explains that the band wanted to get back-to-basics with this record, which they produced themselves, and you can see what he means--the album has a real live-in-the-studio sound to it, with guitars exploding out of the speakers, plus all but two of the tracks are under 4 minutes, and they've completely ditched the special effects a la the bell tolls on "Hells Bells" or the cannons on "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)". Also, Brian Johnson's vocals are at their gloriously piercing best throughout.

The liner notes in the 2003 reissue also state that the album is "remarkably varied". Is this a joke or what? One thing that there sure as hell isn't a lot of on this album is variety. The boys do a nice job of mixing up the tempos--you have your slower paced tunes ("Rising Power", "Nervous Shakedown", "Deep In The Hole"), medium-fast tunes (title track, "Guns For Hire", "Bedlam In Belgium"), and fast tunes ("Landslide", "Brain Shake")--but that hardly makes for a "remarkably varied" batch of songs. One thing I won't argue about though is that the album is indeed very consistent.

The album starts off with "Rising Power" which is one of those great AC/DC stompers, with a brilliant sequence of kickass riffs. Likewise, "Nervous Shakedown" has another great sequence of riffs and builds spellbinding tension before breaking into the call-and-response chorus. The title track, with its sly guitar licks, is a ton of fun. The boogying "Landslide" is one of the most wildly exciting rock songs ever--it's a furious, fast-paced thrill ride with an ultra-catchy rapid-fire vocal hook leading into the chorus, and blistering guitar soloing from Angus; if this song doesn't get your heart racing, I don't know what the hell will. Also irresistible are "Deep In The Hole", with its cry-of-desperation chorus; and "Bedlam In Belgium", with its clever almost-but-not-quite-synchronized rhythm guitar parts and its spiritedly malevolent chorus.

As solid as the album is, it's not a bonafide classic. "This House Is On Fire" is a middling rewrite of "Hells Bells". "Guns For Hire" sounds a bit rushed-through and underwritten, although there's no denying that it's got a hell of a main riff. The bluesy "Badlands" lazily recycles the "Bad Boy Boogie" riff, although there is an ear-catching bit in the riff just before the guitar solo. The album closing "Brain Shake" is a really cool tune that seems to borrow some of its riffery straight from the Beatles "Helter Skelter", but the repetitive "joy to ride" 'hook' gets to be a little annoying, as does the heavy repetition of the title.

You've got to be nuts to think that this album marks the beginning of a major artistic decline for AC/DC. If you actually enjoy the watered-down, Foreigner-style arena-rock of songs like "Touch Too Much" and "You Shook Me All Night Long", then it makes sense that you'd find this album disappointing. But the true AC/DC aren't about lame cockrock; they're about ass-kicking hard rock, and "Flick of the Switch" does a very fine job of capturing the true essence of the band--this album is a must for any true AC/DC fan.

5 out of 5 stars Raw, Hard and Rocking .......2005-07-13

Like Powerage, this is a great AC/DC album that hasn't gotten all the priase it deserves. It's the last album in which Brian Johnson has the full power of his voice and it shows the band making a definite shift from the bombast of "For Those About To Rock...", to a stripped down, straight-up, no nonsense affair. One could say all the songs sound alike (even by AC/DC standards) but that's THE POINT. Look at the simple black & white sketch cover and the running time of the songs/album. It's supposed to just hit you hard and get out of dodge...very punk rock aesthetic actually....although even the best punk never had a nasty groove like these cuts. Imagine if the song "Back In Black" just kept hitting you and hitting you, until you stuck up your hands and screamed, "I give up! You guys are the gods of rock." That's Flick of the Switch.

The last GREAT AC/DC album and easily the second best (right after Back In Black) of the Brian Johnson era. Buy it, crank it up and rock out!

WOW!,if you like AC/DC you'll love this album! This is one of those albums that is in that raw rock state. This was releaced in 1983 after the back to back scuces of BACK IN BLACK and FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK.This is a great album from RISING POWER to the frantic album closer BRAIN SHAKE.Thease are songs you con boogi to,some of AC/DC's best. And the soloes,oh the soloes are aswem, and on songs like DEEP IN THE HOLE Angus sounds like he's ripping his strings out!All around,a mighty fine rock album!!

AC/DC is a great band, no question about it. When you think of their great albums, you think of Back in Black, Powerage, and High Voltage. Flick of the Switch is not in that league, but...Flick of the Switch is still a great album. The thing about AC/DC is that they are such a good band that most of their albums are good, even their bad ones. My friend and I always thought that Flick of the Switch was one of the best kept secrets in rock and roll, along with Aerosmith's Draw the Line and The Who's Who by Numbers. All had no big hits and sales for these albums were par at best. Just give them all a listen and you'll agree. Some fine, rock tunes. Enjoy them all...

    5 out of 5 stars RAW POWER!!!!.......2005-03-22

4 out of 5 stars One of the best kept secrets in rock and roll.......2005-03-14
