Great songs but were are the rest...............2007-04-05

of them.As you probley know AC/DC was going through a hard time with the realease of "Flick of The Switch",which I thought wasn't bad. anyway the album tanked so to make some extra money the realeased these great songs. It was great they did this but were are the rest,like R.I.P (e.t.c). all that aside here what I thought about the C.D.

1. Jailbreak 5/5 AC/DC classic, one of there best. With Bon's great lyrics and Angus (King of the SG) young's fantastic guitar work make this one of the strongest songs in the AC/DC collection.

2. You Ain't Got a Hold On Me 5/5 This keeps the things going along nicely with a slower bluesier feel to it. I reminds me of "Touch to Much".

3 Show Business 1,000/5 This is one of the best song ever!!! It starts of with a great solo that Angus never stops playing!! But the best part is where Bon says "Your smoking bud,they smoke cigars". It cracks me up every time.One of the best.

4. Soul Stripper 5/5 One of the most well written AC/DC songs nothing but music for about a 1:00. Then there's the bass line it has a strong refrence to "Squealer" On "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". But this song the the riff by Malcolm and Angus is awesome.

5. Baby Please Don't Go 4.5/5 This is a cover of an old blues song.It's good but the live version is better, and shorter.

A Chance To Hear Rare Gems.......2007-01-31

Ac/Dc was at a strange place when this CD was released...they had released THE rock and roll masterpiece just a few short years back with 'Back In Black' and the follow-up was almost as good "For Those About To Rock" but the sales dropped tremendously for no good reason at all...and then they released 'Flick Of The Switch' which bombed (it wasn't as good as the previous releases but still had some great music and shouldn't have bombed)
So what's a band to do? How about re-release some songs including the late great Bon Scott fronting the band to those that were perhaps late band wagon jumpers that thought maybe the band just started with 'Back In Black'
It wasn't a bad idea but it was handled horribly. All the songs that are on the '74 Jailbreak' album were already released in Australia and most of their hard core fans already had the import versions.On top of that,they only included 5 songs. In my opinion this was a decision based on greed. They could have included a bonus track (at least 1) that was never before released anywhere...they could have included ALL the songs from the Australian releases...but I believe they held back in the hopes that it would sell really well and they could release a few more quick and easy CDs of Bon's old work and make a fortune. However,it didn't work out that way and '74 Jailbreak' didn't sell nearly as well as they hoped. By the way,what's up with calling it '74 Jailbreak' Jailbreak wasn't even originally released in '74! Okay...enough of my complaints...what you have here is a group of 5 songs that are really good...especially the title cut 'Jailbreak' the biggest mystery of all was why the band chose to not release this great song in America on their first or second album,why wait so long? It's a true classic with Angus and Bon and the rest of the band in top form...and then it's on to 'You Ain't Got A Hold On Me' which shows more atmosphere then most of their past catalog..it's a great mood song and I love it...then it's onto 'Show Business' with lyrics very similar to 'It's A Long Way To The Top' same basic theme but with a much bluesier feel..very good tune...then it's onto 'Soul Stripper' which is great heavy rock...and then the album ends with a cover called 'Baby,Please Don't Go' which I think is the weakest song on the CD but isn't terrible..I just think they could have chosen a better song from the Australian releases to end with...all that being said I would still recommend '74 Jailbreak the remaster version because the sound is very clear and the tunes really do rock...yes,they should have priced it a little cheaper and certainly should have included more songs and an unreleased track or 2 would have been nice (especially on the re-master) but I suppose that greed runs rampant in the music industry and I would bet my favorite slippers that within the next 5 years the Ac/Dc camp will once again re-release their entire catalog but this time with bonus tracks (I think Kiss will do the same thing,as will Iron Maiden) for now,I recommend getting this CD it is a worthwhile addition to your collection

the upside - 5 really good tunes,including the must have classic 'Jailbreak'...great production and great info in the re-mastered version's booklet

the downside - no new tunes,no rare out takes...just some songs that weren't released in USA before

the bottom line - A must have for all true Ac/Dc fans (even those that bought the imports because the quality here is much better) but I would recommend to the beginning Ac/Dc fan to start with Back In Black and Highway To Hell and Dirty Deeds and then move on to the back catalog
but it is great rock and roll and worth buying...the donutman says so!!!

Excellent... but too short, and too expensive.......2007-01-07

All the songs on AC/DC's Jailbreak are great. The title song is vintage Bon Scott. It probably would have been a big hit had they released it in America, but Thin Lizzy also had a song called Jailbreak the same year and that was just one too many it seems. You Ain't Got A Hold On Me is an interesting early tune from before the band really had their sound figured out. Show Business is a straight-up blues tune, Soul Stripper is a great guitar workout with a great Bon Scott vocal (and is not about a stripper). Lastly, there's Baby Please Don't Go, a cover the blues classic. AC/DC's arrangement seems to be based on the Van Morrison/Them version from the early '60s. There's a great clip of the band performing this song on TV, with Bon Scott dressed in drag (pigtails and a blue dress). Classic, classic stuff. You can find that on the Family Jewels DVD.

So all of these songs are great, however the whole thing is only 24 minutes long, so I have a hard time recomending it. This is how the record was released back in the early '80s, yes, but CDs can hold a lot more than vinyl could. There's really no reason to reissue this CD without adding any additional tracks. As previous reviewers have mentioned there and still several early AC/DC tracks that have never been released in America (School Days, Fling Thing, RIP, Crabsody in Blue, etc). Why they didn't add those tracks to this reissue is beyond me. Typical record company incompetence. So I'd only recommend this CD if you can get it really cheap. Or I'm sure you could just download all the songs. They're great songs that every AC/DC fan should hear.

Until I recently dug this five-track mini-album up, I can't remember the last time I heard this vintage title. Think I once had a vinyl copy of this record. No matter, this is AC/DC at their very earliest work. Raw, angry and just plain heavy. However, at the same time, I think '74 Jailbreak' may be more bluesy than any of their other lp's. Play this one repeatedly, you'll have time.Classic track listing: "Jailbreak"(4:40), "You Ain't Got A Hold On Me"(3:30), "Show Business"(4:43), "Soul Stripper"(6:23) and their Big Joe Williams standard cover "Baby,Please Don't Go"(4:50). Simply, a must-have.

This is a good cd but they should have made it better. A new fan of Bon-Era AC/DC don't realize how many more great songs there are. This should have been the track list:

Originally released in 1984, AC/DC's "'74 Jailbreak" gave a US release to 5 songs that were previously released in Australia, but not in the US. The first track, "Jailbreak", was released on the Australian "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" album in 1976, while the remaining 4 came out on AC/DC's Australian debut album "High Voltage" in 1975.

To put it quite simply, this is a skimpy release. Furthermore, it's rather mind-blowing that with the 2003 batch of re-releases, it was decided YET AGAIN to keep "'74 Jailbreak" alive instead of just using these 5 songs as bonus tracks on the appropriate albums, along with other tracks that to this day have not been released in the US. This "album" doesn't even reach the 25 minute mark, and the CD versions appear to have always had an appallingly high list price, making for quite the ripoff.

Granted, it'd be more forgivable if all five of these tracks were kickass AC/DC classics, but unfortunately, that's not even the case. "Jailbreak", with its annoying lyrics, Bon Scott's theatrical vocalizing, and Angus' guitar sound effects, is an overwrought "epic" that blatantly recalls Them's "Gloria", written by Van Morrison. "Show Business" is a dull boogie-rock number with corny background vocals. "You Ain't Got A Hold On Me" does have catchiness and uses a simple-but-effective drum fill, but they sound like they're holding back, to tentative effect. "Soul Stripper" is admittedly quite good, with cool licks, a simple-but-effective 2-note bass line, plus an extended instrumental intro featuring woodblock and congas, unusual instruments for an AC/DC record.

The best gets saved for last--the fast-paced cover of "Baby, Please Don't Go" rocks big time. Again, this track displays a Them influence--Them recorded "Baby, Please Don't Go" as well, and their version clearly influenced AC/DC's, but the version here is much more exciting, and although Bon does get a little carried away with his screaming on it, it's still quite a blast.

All in all, as I said before, this is quite a ripoff, not to mention a blown opportunity.

This was my second album my dad bought for me when it first came out (in the Reissue form back in 2003)i was 12 then(14 now)
This was when i really started to like AC/DC and after i got BACK IN BLACK,they were my favorite band.
This album may only have 5 songs but hey,its AC/DC!Pink floyds Wish you were Here only had five songs so stop whining!!
These songs are great because im a guitar player and they're fun to play along to long solos so you can really jam.The best songs have to be Jailbreak,and Soul Stripper,because they're two of AC/DC's great song list(and they have a long list!)Brian does a great job of singing Jailbreak and i think hes better at singing it than Bon was,(i think brian is better)
So go out and buy it,its worth the money.

I have always been an AC/DC fan growing up and Jailbreak is among one of my favorite songs. I believe that even though it seems EPic is being Greedy by charging full price for only 5 songs that we should be lucky this CD was even released or else most of us in the US may have never heard the great songs on the CD. Plus I believe that any real AC/DC fan is willing to pay the money for this awesome CD. Also consider that the CD companies need to pay for the impressive packing and art that is included on all the AC/DC CDs.

Questo è stato il secondo cd della mia collezione. Anche se per un ragazzo di 15 anni come me potrebbe essere un pò noioso lo stile anni 70, io me ne fotto e lo ascolto lo stesso, va bene?! Passiamo al giudizio delle canzoni:

1) Jailbreak: Si narra che Bon svenisse in continuazione durante la registrazione di questa canzone: si può sentire che ingurgita whiskey tra un verso e l' altro! Pieno stile AC/DC. A

2) You ain't got a hold on me: Canzone che mostra il carattere capriccioso di Bon; ritornello stupendo, che rende questa canzone un' A+

3) Show business: non sono mai andato matto per il rock'n'roll classico perchè è troppo scontato. B-

4) soul stripper: I solisti di questa canzone spaccano il culo in tre!!! Malcolm è un ottimo chitarrista solista ( in questo cd, infatti, tranne che in Jailbreak, i solisti li fa lui, lo sapevate?) bella canzone, che pecca un pò nel ritornello: A

5) Baby, please don't go: la miglior canzone del Cd, con la caratteristica di avere un ritmo allo stesso tempo frenetico ed orecchibile. TRoppo forte quando Bon urla: "I want SOFFER, SOFFER"e Malcolm che imita le linee vocali di Bon con dei mini solisti! A+
